Poor Business Practices, It was advertised on Instagram as a free 4-week course, I thought why not let's try it. I follow the steps I sign up I read all the details. And while I was trying to still figure out if this was a program worth my while my thumb on my phone skimmed over an item (I want to clearly state I had no intentions of hitting the button) and before I could stop it I was charged for 34.95 right from my account. I closed the site and contacted them right away to which they told me I was stuck with the purchase if I intended to purchase it or not. AparnetlyApparently a Free program you need to buy kits (which I neer downloaded or anything) But told PayPal I downloaded it. Also for this free course, you need to buy the certificate when you are done. Their ad campaign needs to be changed and they need to change there site for better user experience on mobile, a thumb barely hitting a button shouldn't force the user to buy it.

Shaw academy is an old school predatory scam site in that it's aggressive in taking your money, whether automatically or accidentally, and then absolutely refuses to issue refunds for any reason. I haven't felt this victimized by a service in a long time. Only Amazon has one-click purchase buttons any more and they're always quick with a refund. Shaw will walk you around in circles endlessly just to try to keep $35.It's not my style to keep to a strict schedule for an online course, so I knew 10 minutes into my my free trial Shaw wasn't for me. The app is quite buggy too, long load time and it usually times out. My mistake was clicking a button that I couldn't even read because the text was cut off, turns out it was a one click purchase button. I certainly did not intend to buy anything from a site I already knew I wasn't going to use. I figured it was not a big deal so I sent an email and mentioned I'd like to cancel my trail as well. They had me call, had a robot pretty much beg me to stay 5 times, and then at the end of the call the robot said now I had to email them again. So I did. And they said I wouldn't be refunded, they just offered free content that I'll never use. I would take a look but the app is too buggy and it's frustrating.Even if I did give them a a chance for the whole month long trial, I would not trust them to allow me to cancel before being charged again. It feels like I clicked the wrong pop up ad in 2004.They're still refusing to issue me a refund. In a time of economic uncertainty no less, a time when many are stuck home and trying to use their free time wisely. Long story short, this "educational" service will leave you feeling dumb just for giving it a try.

My account on Shaw Academy was charged for a toolkit ($29.99) that I did not request or authorize. I have no idea how it was determined that charge should be made. I have since tried, through multiple avenues to get the charge reversed and the account canceled as I no longer wish to use this service and risk my credit card taking on more unsolicited charges but have not been able to get a direct response from anyone regarding the issue. Instead, I have had more services offered to me that I will not be using as I am not continuing on the course.I am appalled at the customer service I have received from Shaw Academy in regard to both the fraudulent charge and my desire to cancel my free trial.

Overall I am very disappointed with the way Shaw Academy handled things. They offered little to no help and zero clear answers. I would say they border on fraudulent. Through my Dallas Morning News subscription, I sent a deal for a free class with Shaw Academy. I signed up online and was told before the class, I needed to get my class kit. Once, I get the kit, I immediatelt notice I have been charged. I email the website to let them know, I have not started the class and now that I have been charged for a free class, I no longer want to be a part of this. Please refund my money. The person who responded let me know he will not refund the money and I need to just take the class. I let him know I will not be taking the class and I just want anything I have signed up for to be canceled so I am no longer receiving emails about the class. He refuses to cancel my account and the refund. I proceed to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge. They dispute it and refund me the money. This all began on January 30th, 2020. My money was refunded on February 8th, 2020. On March 18th, I looked at my credit card account had been charged for the disputed amount and the manner in which it had been charged made it so I could not dispute it, again. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, I can not get through to anyone with my credit card company. I have emailed Shaw Academy to let them know I will be disputing this charge again. I never took the class, opened the class kit, and I worked my best to cancel my account with Shaw Academy, while also unsubscribing from any of their subscriber content through email.

I've already contacted Shaw about this, so I'll give a very nice updated version of what's going on: I entered a free trial, which Shaw was only able to offer if I supplied them with billing details. During that trial, I went to cancel the trial four or five days before it ended, with the understanding that I would not be able to finish my class after I cancelled. When I tried to cancel, Shaw said, "You have XX days left of your trial, don't cancel now! We'll remind you when it's time to cancel!" I trusted the company (mistake), and thought, "They'll know EXACTLY when I'll be charged, so that's a great way to use my free trial to it's fullest" and I selected that option. Then I woke up one day to a 69.99 charge, and NO reminder email or message at all. I would also like to point out that if it was time for me to take one of my classes, I would receive at least three emails, two texts in Whatsapp, and a couple of push notifications as well. But this PROMISED reminder email? Nope. I contacted Shaw, and have gotten the same reply I already see on this site: "Six months free!" or even "12 months free!" I DO NOT want any free time with Shaw. I would like my $70 back, since you did not keep your end of the deal and remind me. And yes, they say that they did, and to check inbox and spam folders, and I HAVE, and do not have anything from Shaw other than emails to get me to purchase other things. I've gone back over more than two weeks, and NO reminder ever. Why would I want to have free access to a site that has lied to and disrespected me like that?

I think Shaw Academy needs to refund my account, for one simple reason: they said they would remind me before they charged me and they didn't. They did not give me their promised opportunity to cancel after a reminder, because a reminder was never sent. Lying to your customers, or not fulfilling what you said you would do, nulls any contract you want to tell them they entered with you.

It took over three weeks of fighting, but finally they honored their word and refunded me. (I also had to fight for the refund even after they said they would refund me.) Long story short, definitely continue to stand up for yourself if you deal with this business and have an issue! They'll give you the run around for a long time, but did do what they said in the end.
This is the most frustrating thing. I impulsively signed up for Shaw Academy to take this one class because the ad said I could do a month long free trial of a class for a certificate or something. I'm practicing self-distancing right now because of COVID-19 and I thought hey why not. Then I got the account and put in my credit card info (which was stupid I know) and found that to take the classes you actually have to purchase these "tool packages" that are like $29.99 each. Yeah no thank you. So I went to go cancel my membership but apparently it won't let me because my account is "still being set up" and apparently this process takes 48 hours? I have never heard of such a thing. I've emailed customer service (no phone number available on the website and all I'm getting from the number listed on Google is that their lines are closed of course, fantastic), and all I've gotten back are super patronizing emails trying to convince me to keep my membership through the trial and instructions to cancel the way I've already been trying to for two days now. I have already cancelled my credit card just in case, so I'm not necessarily worried about money, but I need to know that my wish to cancel my membership will be honored (and not patronizingly discouraged).

I have been contacted and told to 'Please take at least one class...etc? and they refused to cancel my membership. I asked them to cancel my membership immediately as I was no longer looking to continue classes with them. They never responded after the first time so I made another Ticket Request to file a complaint through them which also received no response. I called them during business hours at least 20-30 times a week and was told I would get a call back. Finally they cancelled my membership which I was so excited about to find out an hour later that they themselves had REACTIVATED my account without my permission or authority. I started a trial and was hounded by calls, emails, SMS within a day so emailed to cancel. It was way too much - my mental health couldn't hack being hounded like this on one day. There was no way within the website to cancel so I had to email. I was clear in my message asking to cancel the trial and any subsequent subscriptions. I got a huge reply telling me how they wanted to keep me on my goals but not cancelling, so I replied again the next day clearly instructing them to cancel my trial and subsequent subscription, and informing them that I wanted to exercise my RTBF under GDPR.They replied advising I needed to cancel in the account area with a link that didn't work and I couldn't find what they were referring to. They've now taken 49.99 from me and refuse to refund.

Dear Student,

I started my class with the Shaw Academy on March 16 for a 4 week trial period from a T-Mobile Tuesday promotion and discovered that $29.99 was taken out of my account on March 23rd for a e-certificate I never got and never wanted. I tried to close my account but it says I have to call some number that frankly doesn't work. I have called over ten times and even the times I asked for a call back, it called me back to say "there are no available (people) to answer your call, please call again at another time". This leads me to believe that there isn't an actual call center.I emailed Shaw Academy and I got this email from "Allen", that basically is a "don't go, we will give you a discount!" advert. "Thank you for reaching out to us!I see that you have purchased your Certificate shown in your members area, course page, pop-up banner and email.Your Certificate is incredibly helpful as it gives you a goal to work towards and we have seen that students who take this step very often have both higher completion rates and grades for their courses. Your Certificate also provides documentary proof of your completion of this programme which is very important and helps students greatly. You just have to click on the "Get E-Certificate" button to take the final assignment online and complete the final assignment with a 50% score or higher, you will receive the certificate via email.Once the E-Certificate is activated in your account it is made available to you and hence it cannot be disabled as it was provided there, we cannot refunds. However, we at Shaw Academy do want to ensure you benefit thoroughly from our services. I have spoken to my manager and we would like to offer you credit to the value of USD 160 which can be used for 3 remaining module E-certificates and 1 hard copy diploma. This is far in excess of what you paid and you have had access until now and will continue to do so for life.I have activated this for you in your account, where you can appear for all the module assignments and obtain your EQF certificates. All that is left to say now is that attending your lessons is key to succeeding, you started with real goals and all you need to do is attend one class at a time and you will achieve them."I think I should be notified when I make a purchase vs. click a button. I never knew scrolling through a site to review its legitimacy after getting a phone call over a class I (didn't) miss - these guys will call you and say you missed a class, even if you attended it - would drain my bank account and accrue me an overdraft fee!I don't care about attending lessons from a no-name, non-accredited, for-profit online school, I got better information from free videos on the internet than I did here. I want my account fully canceled and to be refunded in total, both the $29.99 and the $30 overdraft that they accrued me. The bank said Shaw has to pay the overdraft on top of the amount they schemed from me. I sent another email to ***@shawacademy.com and tried more phone numbers, I really want a resolution to this.

We're sorry to hear of your less than satisfactory experience with Shaw Academy and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies. We like so many businesses are encountering extreme challenges stemming from covid-19.
The issues we face relate to staff challenges in all of our office locations including staff unable to attend work and also work from home. This is compounded by a massive increase in student volumes given the sudden shock to the world with new levels of unemployment and significant amounts of people worried about their futures. This has put considerable strain on our teams in particular, the customer support. If any charge had of occurred that you feel should not have it will be refunded.
That said, your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

It's not a proposed resolution, it's whining using the pandemic as an excuse. Never once did they cite pandemic as a reason for *ignoringmy constant, clear requests to be refunded and let go. This was also at the start of the shut down, before things really got really nasty outside, pandemic-wise so this is a really pathetic and fake excuse.
Every time I asked to be canceled and refunded, they constantly asked for me to simply continue my class and that they would *notrefund me for any purchase, including hidden ones. Covid-19 never came up *once*. But ignoring my requests by offering other products happened a lot.
And in regards to the refund, I was told this exact statement April 2, 2020:
"Patrick (Shaw Academy)
Apr 2, 07:52 IST
Hi ***,
Thanks for your patience.
I have reviewed this matter further and as our mission is to simply help you succeed I want to do anything and everything to make this happen.
With this in mind I have processed a refund for you.

I would encourage you to stick with your course, learn your skills and succeed with us.
Just show up for your next lesson and get ahead.
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Shaw Academy Team
Stand a chance to win an iPhone by reviewing us here
Kind regards,
Patrick"
I want to focus on: "With this in mind I have processed a refund for you.
The refund amount will be credited to your account within the next 3 to 5 business days."
If I was already refunded, as Patrick says, why is that not reflected in whatever file on me that should have stated that? Why offer me a second refund - unless the *firstone did not happen? Which is *exactlywhat this looks like, that the first refund did not happen. Which means the second one is probably/most likely not going to happen, either.
And notice no mention of pandemics, despite it being April, but this was said: "I would encourage you to stick with your course, learn your skills and succeed with us.
Just show up for your next lesson and get ahead."
That is *ignoringa cancel request. I don't *wantto come back, I want my account to be canceled and refunded. Plain and simple. Very plain and simple.
So, no, I do not accept their proposed resolution because there isn't one! It's just whining using the pandemic as a paltry, fake excuse and another possible lie of refund.

Dear student,
We had processed your refund as per your request. But since you have raised dispute against the transaction, the settlement will happen only after the dispute is closed after your bank verifies the evidence for the disputed payment.
Hi I signed up for a free trial of an online course on Feb 19 which was due to expire on March 20. I lost interest in it so wanted to cancel it before end of the free trial. I tried to cancel it online in Members Area of their website on Mar 14 by following cancelation link but got a message that I would need to call at X-XXX-XXX-XXXX to complete the cancellation process. I called this number a number of times but nobody attended my calls. I left voicemails but nobody called me back. So as a last resort, I sent an email to ***@shawacademy.com to request them to cancel my account immediately.I received an email in response which was meant to convince me to not to cancel the course. I replied to them and requested them to cancel my free trial and my account immediately. I received a response asking me to do the cancelation online in the members area of My Account. I responded to them stating I had already done that and I was advised to call their number to confirm the cancelation but nobody responded to my calls or even returned my emails. That is the reason I had contacted them through email. I received a response that somebody would call me to confirm the Cancelation. But nobody called. I sent them reminders but neither did they cancel my account nor did they call me.I feel they were just buying time until end of trial period so they could charge my credit card.So today on Mar 19, they have charged my card for CAD $69.99.When I signed up for free trial with this so called educational institute, I didn't know this was just another scam in the market. What a shame!!!

I registered a free 4 week course, but I had to purchase a toolkit for $34.95dollars. I saw that I was charged 2 times the same amount. I sent them an email to request a refund and they refused. According to the company once you hit on the one click button, the debit card will be charged. I let them know about it was only toolkit and they refused to return the extra money charged. This is resolved. My PayPal shows a refund was processed yesterday on the 23rd. It should post to my debit in a couple days or so.
My complaint is that Shaw Academy makes it unnecessarily difficult to cancel the free trial subscription. I feel like they are holding me hostage. Let me explain. I tried to cancel on the app. It said "you must go to the web version to cancel". Ok. So I went to the web version and pressed the cancel button. Then it kept taking me to a new screen offering this great "perk" and that great "offer" in order to pressure me NOT to cancel. Then, with each new screen I had to look for and find the "yes I still want to cancel" option. I literally had to go through 4-5 pages of garbage, continually pressing the "YES, I WANT TO CANCEL" button. At the end of this process the website told me, " In order to cancel, please call this phone number......." !!!! This is clearly inappropriate. But it got worse. Upon calling the phone number, I found you could only call during business hours. But when I finally got through, it was an automated system. Shockingly, I had to go through 5 minutes of hostage taking messages again. Each message would tell me the "perks" of shaw academy and then give me the option of "giving up on my educational goals - press 2", or accepting their fine "offer" and stay with them - press 1. In this automated system I had to press the cancel option 4 or 5 times...with each new automated message shaming me for not wanting to pursue my education. Finally, at the last automated message, it simply said, "to cancel your service please email us at ***@shawacademy.com"This is clearly unacceptable business practices, making it very difficult to cancel an expensive subscription. I am demanding a full cancellation of my free trial immediately. It is improper to hold a customer hostage and make it so difficult to cancel. This is appalling.

They had a button on their website that when clicked automatically charged my card for some sort of "tool-kit" that they were touting very strongly through numerous emails. I accidentally clicked on that link, and it charged my card right away. I didn't want that tool kit as the whole course was to be free, and when I tried contacting them they offered more "free content" that they went on and charged me for. I still want that first charge refunded to me of $29.99. This is a very shady company that hooks unassuming customers with "free content" bait, only to charge them with things they didn't order, and i'm not the only victim, as evidenced by many others who resorted to try to contact them through social media, since nobody will answer in their "customer service system". This whole thing is a ponzi scheme to steal money from people like me, who took the step to learn some new traits under the guise of the courses being free. This company should be investigated by authorities for theft.

Dear Student,
Regarding the Toolkit purchase, having to enter card details each time a customer wants to pay on a website could be frustrating for the customers. Shorten the process to the bare minimum and let them pay with a single click in seconds is one-click payment. This gives a smooth experience without interrupting their enjoyment of using the product. The powerful technology behind One-Click payments makes it work fast and seamlessly. You don't have to store any sensitive card data. Everything is covered securely with a token. Also, this creates a safe experience for both parties.
That being said, you can contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for any assistance

I attempted to cancel the subscription prior to the expiration of the free trail as I did not like the website functionality or the content. Apparently it did not cancel completely and I was charged for a for a premium membership. I contacted customer services and received a notification that I was not able to receive my refund and I was being offered 3 additional months free, which I did not accept. I replied requesting a full refund as none of the content had been accessed or utilized. I have not received any response; therefore I decided to login and attempt to complete a course so my funds were not wasted. As I'm enrolling it added a toolkit to one of my course which I did not request, I was simply trying to view the course. After this incident I did investigation online and it appears Shaw academy does this to many customers, I tried to remove my payment form and could not additionally there customer service line is only an answering service and the emails are not responded to. At this time I would like a full refund as no class have been accessed and I do not approve of the business practices

After 2 weeks of getting the run around I was finally able to get the account completely closed, not just deactivated and my refund was processed.

Product_Or_Service: Free Trial/ Membership
Other (requires explanation) I think Shaw Academy needs to refund my account, for one simple reason: they said they would remind me before they charged me and they didn't.

I have been trying to cancel my 4 week free trial for the Graphic Design class through Shaw Academy for the last several weeks. I have only been charged $2 so far from them but I refuse to pay for the membership that will be up the first week of April. Please help me get out of this contract!

I received a response from Shaw Academy. They cancelled my subscription and have not charged me.

I do not accept because I was not refunded by them. It was through my bank I received *anymoney back. Even after informed several times, Shaw Academy did not listen when I said I wanted to cancel my account, did not make the process straight-forward and attempted to run out the clock so they could keep my money, which they got through deceptive means.
Even now, I still am not 100% sure I am canceled because they have said that before and I learned that it was not true.

Thank you
Hi I signed up for a free trial of an online course on Feb 19 which was due to expire on March 20.

I purchased only toolkit for $34.95, but I saw that in my bank account showed 2 times $34.95 and they refused to give a refund.
Then the company ignored the emails about requesting a full refund and cancellation of course. I tried to call and there is no phone number or cancellation button. In the website showed 2 toolkit of the same class.
I would like to cancel the free 4 week course because of the unprofessional way that it was handled. All this could be prevented if the company provides a clear solution when there are mistakes in the system.

04/02/2020 My account was pending payment to Shaw Academy for $69.04.

The Trial they had was cancelled before this charge, but they're saying it wasn't! I've emailed all accounts for Shaw Academy, called every contact number as well!

I signed up for a free trial for my daughter to learn a guitar course. She took the first lesson it was too easy for her so we dont want to try it. I tried stopping the trial thru website and call but they keep on denying too do it. They said we could cancel it at any time . it was a lie.

My account was already canceled. I expected a full refund for the charges that were charged to my credit card for services not rendered. The site is manipulating and the end subscription call to action is buried deep and multiple clicks are required to fully cancel, which is misleading to the customer.
