Dear Student,

You can contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for refund related assistance.

I kindly request the refund of the unused and not downloaded toolkit purchased after one click feature and cancel my membership, please.
Tuesday April 7th, 2020. I got the promotion of a "free online course" thru T-mobile. The Shaw academy webpage thru the T-mobile promotion doesn't explain so clear about the program and needs to sign up with a credit card to be able to discover who this works. After giving my credit card information and enroll in the course was able to discover that my current Covid-19 quarantine situation don't allow me to complete this course plus afford the extra cost for the toolkits and diploma.

At 06:09 PM trying to cancel, accidentally clicked on one of the toolkits, the system with one click purchase only option (don't disclosed on that part of the webpage) charge me for the toolkit without any previous confirmation. Immediately I sent an e-mail to the billing department without opened or download the toolkit.

They kindly offering more modules and diplomas without extra charge, but I not able to complete this or other courses in during this quarantine or later, plus the extra cost wasn't expected and right now this charge cause a hardship in other expenses.

Its important to mention that after the trial expires, I'm going to get charge again to be able to complete the course and I cannot afford it.

I kindly request the refund of the charge and the cancellation of the membership. The toolkit wasn't opened or downloaded. Is very frustrating that I tried to give a chance to the company and the courses and get charged with one click purchase buttons, when is clear that the customers aren't a computer expert and can get in this kind of errors easily.

Desired Outcome

The refund of $39.95 and cancellation of the trial membership. I didn't started the course and/or opened or downloaded the toolkit accidentally purchased or the extra ones that the company give me for free. We are in a middle of a pandemic and the last thing that I need to worry is money and an online course that I'm not able to complete successfully. Please reconsider and grant me the refund. Thank you in advance

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Unauthorised deduction from my credit card for a toolkit I did not purchase.
I won a free 4 week Shaw Academy course via Vodacom. After completing my 4th lesson on 2 April 2020 I closed the webpage. Within seconds of doing so I received a notification from my bank that R512.91 was taken from my credit card.

This was only week 2 of the trial period so I immediately emailed (there is no phone number to call) Shaw Academy to explain this and I received a reply to say that they have reviewed my account details and that I had availed myself of the 4 week free trial after which payment would be made, therefore no refund would be due as I had agreed to their terms and conditions.

I immediately emailed back to advise that the 4 week trial had not finished. This email and 6 further emails sent between then and 8 April have not been responded to.

While waiting I googled review sites and was appalled at the number of complaints against Shaw Academy for taking money even when people cancelled within the 4 week free trial period. I also saw other complaints where people said they were charged for tool kits they did not purchase. I then logged back in and reviewed my account and I see that I supposedly purchased the Lightroom toolkit and that it was available for download. I DID NOT click on the button to purchase this at all. I logged in and clicked join class and then when the class finished I just closed the webpage. The toolkit has not been downloaded which Shaw Academy will be able to verify.

When I checked the prices and the exchange rate it is clear that the R512.91 is for the toolkit and not the price of a month's subscription. So clearly the one and only email I got from Shaw Academy saying they had reviewed my account details was automated - and they even got that wrong!

I can't prove that I didn't click on the purchase toolkit button and as there have been other complaints on various review websites that are saying the same I can only assume they are somehow making this occur from their end.

As I said, I have not downloaded the toolkit so there is absolutely no reason why they cannot offer me a refund after removing the toolkit from my profile. I do not want it - I never did and I DID NOT click to purchase it!

Desired Outcome

Refund of the R512.91 for the toolkit that I DID NOT purchase. They can remove the toolkit beforehand - they can see that it has not been downloaded.

Two unauthorized charges to my PayPal Account
I emailed to cancel my free trail, they said I didnt have an account with them, so I wouldn't be charged. Im only able to share one screen shot, so I'll show one of the two unauthorized charges. I have correspondence attempting to cancel my trail & their response upon request.

Desired Outcome

I require a full refund & this company should not be aloud to remain in business, this wasted half of my day.

Dear Student,

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription and We have also processed your refund.

Please contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for further refund related assistance.

subscription not cancelled, further 2month completely free access Credit offer (ID no #XXXXXXX) by Shaw. $34.95 charged (inv. ID XXXXXXXX). Refund req
As a means to skill develop during these times as I'm isolating at home, I decided to enroll into Shaw academy's free 1month trail.
Within 24 hours of applying, I had yet to receive any correspondence or follow through on actual next steps yet a handful of spam advertising, calls, whatsapp messages etc to which I found rather intrusive, only a PayPal $1 charge and reversal to validate authenticity I guess.

On April 2nd, I reached out to their support team via email requesting a follow through otherwise my account would be cancelled as I felt uncomfortable with the so like correspondences and no concrete, user friendly navigation system on their website (Email attached).

I was issued a query ticket (Ticket ID no #XXXXXXX) and response on the Same day apologizing, instructing me that my membership had been cancelled which would be reflective in 24hrs as well as a '2month free access, completely free of charge, ' will be compensated on my account the next day despite my subscription cancellation. How generous I exclaimed!

To my utter surprise, the following incidents on April 7th (4days after), proved that service, offer and transaction null and void; that my account was still in the initial 1month trial mode, membership hadn't been cancelled and I was going to be charged erroneously for resources I don't require.

During my first fitness and weight loss class attended on Tuesday April 7th, I received a notification indicating the lectures resources had been provided by the tutor.
I personally didn't find the class engaging enough to return on Thursday but figured I'd apply and appreciate the opportunity and effort by adhering to the instruction provided to perform an activity after the class which was specific and detailed by the tutor. I sort out where classes handouts were with difficulty and finally trusting it'd have to be in the tool kit module.

Bearing in mind I had been previously provided an endorsement that my membership subscription had been canceled as well a further 2months access completely free by email, as well as that there was no visible amount attached to the toolkit tab, I pressed it, seeking a sort of slideshow from the course just attended - as an activity was described to the students to perform post class so sort to refer to it.
it was devastatingly shocking to note that upon clicking, the site was processing a one click automated payment charge of $34.95 (transaction detail attached) , for a toolkit of the entire module I have zero interest in using, have and will not open and not the slideshow of the class I had just attended.
Moreso shocking that a charge would be made at all on a membership which was supposed to have been cancelled and compensated between April 3rd and 4th 2020 (according to the email correspondence from Shaw attached received on April the 2nd).
The course and charge was Deducted on April the 7th. ( Invoice ID XXXXXXXX, Transaction ID
3XFXXXXXTLXXXXXXY)

I immediately reached out to them via PayPal for a refund citing erroneous charge/payment, furthermore their site, query until I received a feedback ignoring the unauthorized access to my PayPal account since I trusted my membership had indeed been cancelled and I was working under a free complete access mode!
I was declined a refund Citing already processed (ID number #XXXXXXX)

I seek an explanation for the false promise and negligence and most importantly a full refund of what I was charged. These aren't times to farf around with peoples money under false advertising and offers.

Desired Outcome

I seek a refund of $34.95 charged from my PayPal -citing negligence, false advertising and compensation offers not applied- an account which was meant to have accessible under the comfort that my membership had been cancelled by Shaw academy as implied and confirmed by Their support team.

Customer Response • Apr 20, 2020

Hi there,
Yes they quietly refunded my money a few days ago!

Thanks so much for the platform, all the best in your endeavours

The company's website hides your due date and then charges after canceling your account and then refuses to refund when you haven't used the service.
My phone carrier offered up a free trial for an online school Shaw Academy and the classes seemed interesting, but I became too busy to keep up with the classes. I read the fine print that they gave 4 weeks and then they charged for a month of use after that if you don't cancel. I could not find my original start date because it was nowhere on the website. I clicked the "cancel my membership" button and it told me I needed to call a line to cancel. I called this number and the automated line told me over and over again that I was ruining my future and that they are trying to invest in it. I had to tell the automated line more times than 4 that, "Yes, I want to cancel." They kept making offers each time and I almost accepted but realized I would have to sit through this phone call again so decided against it. Finally, at the end up the call, I have to email a representative. I emailed the representative. The representative tells me they hate to see me go but understand during this covid-19 crisis that money is tight and that they will gift me 2 months free starting 24 hours from then, and they would deactivate my account and to please excuse any fault of theirs. The next day, they charged my PayPal account for the cost of a month. I emailed support about this. Support told me that it was impossible for then to refund due to them saying "after the four weeks trial, you will be charged." This is entering in the 4th week of courses (two courses a week=7&8 were this week) it is only Wednesday. They also didn't allow me to start classes until 6 days after I signed up.

Desired Outcome

Refund my account

Dear student,

We find that your issue was resolved by our support team.

Happy learning!!!

I've tried to cancel this service. You try to cancel and they give you the run around! Then charged me while I was trying to cancel. Won't contact me
I used the free service. Like it but wasn't going to use it. So I canceled, well like all companies they gave me another month free so I said ok. Well I went to cancel. After basically tell me via internet that I was giving up and worthless, they gave me a number to call. So I call the number. After 5 prompts to get me to stay, by telling me I'm giving up. They tell me to email the company. So I email. ALL WHILE CHARGING ME 69.99$ you can't y'all to anyone. No one will contact me I get an automated email.

Desired Outcome

I just want my $69.99 That's alll

We like so many businesses are encountering extreme challenges stemming from covid-19. The issues we face relate to staff challenges in all of our office locations including staff unable to attend work and also work from home. This is compounded by a massive increase in student volumes given the sudden shock to the world with new levels of unemployment and significant amounts of people worried about their futures. Last week ten times more students joined that would have been expected. Even with a full complement of staff this would have been challenging but in a covid-19 world far more so.
This has put considerable strain on our teams in particular, the customer support. Your request has been received and you will not be charged. If any charge had of occurred that you feel should not have it will be refunded.
You can contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for refund related assistance.

I have signed up for a free 1 month trial at Shaw academy and they have charged me 34.99$ which was not unauthorized under the name of a toolkit.
I have signed up on Shaw Academy for a free 1 month trail on April 5th, 2020 to learn some new skills during the Covid 19 shelter in place time. I had my first class on April 6th, 2020 at 6pm PST. But before that I noticed that a transaction of 34.95$ was charged to my debit card which I provided during sign up. This transaction was not authorized by me or I never bought anything anything on the website. They say that it was for a toolkit for my online class. I didn't buy any toolkit or was intended to buy one. Their website was designed in such a way that you get these pop ups everywhere to buy a toolkit and every email they send has "Get Toolkit for your course" button. Please note that it never says buy toolkit. What I noticed and really didn't like is at any time during those annoying pop ups on every page and every reload or on emails, if you click get toolkit, It makes an automatic charge to your card without any kind of confirmation. It never asks you to confirm or there is not extra landing page showing what you are buying. It's just one click. Even right beside the join class button, there is a get toolkit button which many people might think is something they need to download before class. This is highly misleading and unfortunately this is how they make money. They say that it's free trail and a lot of students who wish to learn something for a month sign up and make a mistake of clicking these buttons. I immediately cancelled my free trail after reading online reviews about how lot of people where charged like this. But I'm unable to delete my debit card from their account and now afraid that they might charge something else on my card. This is really frustrating especially during such Covid 19 situation where a person like me need to save money. Please kindly make sure that I get my refund for this unauthorized transaction of 34.95$ for toolkit. I have never bought any toolkit or intend to. I'm seriously concerned about many students who might get scammed for websites like these. Moreover this website was actually suggested my T mobile in their "T mobile Tuesdays" plan. Shaw Academy's was of making money is not 100% genuine and they shouldn't be misleading people into buying such stuff which having any extra layer of confirmation/review page for any purchase. Atleast there should be a setting for one click purchases for people who intend to. Thanks for your time and service. I highly appreciate what you are doing and helping all these people. I hope you help me as well. I have attached my invoice.

Desired Outcome

I would like to get a refund of 34.95$ for this unauthorized toolkit transaction. I would like to receive a check sent to my address or a refund to my any other debit card. The reason is I have cancelled my current debit card because of this issue hoping no further unauthorized transactions can go through.

I was illegally charged after I cancelled this membership before the 7 day trial was over. I sent request for refund then another illegal charge came.
I signed up for a 7 day trial with this company. I cancelled it within 5 days if the trial to avoid charge. Two days after I cancelled they still charged me. 59.99 I sent messages to the support team who said I did not do a cancellation when I did. I received 3 emails this week and saying they said I could not get a refund because I did not submit a cancellation before the trial period which is a lie. I even I called their cr which is horrible. No one answers and it takes you in a loop if you got continue. When you hit continue it thanks you for choosing not continue your education. There is no option to immediately speak to a representative. The only way to get past the continue button is to just hold the phone. I did that several times and got the message that all lines were busy. After this I sent a message saying I would report this company for bad business practices to the Revdex.com and the Attorney General if I did not get my refund. I sent this message twice. This morning 4/8 a charge for 69.99 was put illegally on my card. An email was sent to me saying thank you for choosing to further my education. I did not agree to further anything. All my communication with them has been to cancel all trials and refund the illegal funds taken then they did it again after they said everything was cancelled. This place is a scam and I want all my money back from them. They do not practice Fair or legal business practices. Please get my money immediately. In times like this no one should have to go through this. Thank you for helping me.

Desired Outcome

I want all my money back. I have already cancelled all memberships. I want all my payment and card info and name and everything deleted from their files including my email. And for their illegal practices I need to be compensated 4-5 times what was illegally btaken from me because they deliberately tried to keep my money then charged me again illegally even after they said everything was cancelled. No charge should have ever been charged to my card at all because I cancelled two days before the 7daybtrial was over. Thank you for helping me.

I read this response then immediately contacted the company and they responded back to me and said they still could not give me a refund. After all this they are still refusing to give me my money back even after I canceled the subscription. I just want my money back like I was told I would not have to pay because I cancelled the trial 2 days before the 7 day trial period was over. Please help me to get my money back. Thank you so much.

Thank you

I signed up for a free class as a T-mobile Tuesday gift. They disguise payment buttons as course tools. Its a confusing scam
I signed up for a fee course using the tmobile tuesday app. I thought it would be nice to take classes while unemployed and on lock down due to the pandemic. Although I was signed up for the class for free- they keep trying to sell you course materials. constantly through emails and in every part of the website. 5 minutes before class I click on a course work button and get a notice that I have been charged. They disguised at least one of the pay buttons as a 'get your coursework' button. I have been a little nervous about this all morning as I had no less that 6-8 paypal charges and refunds this morning and an email from the company saying they are overwhelmed by free class takers.

Desired Outcome

I want all of my money refunded and to be taken off every list or deleted from every record they have so they cant scam me again.

On April 3 2020 I signed up for Shaw Academy's 4 week FREE trial. Upon signing up, they charged my visa $69.99 that same day. They will not refund me.
On April 3 2020, I clicked on Shaw Academy's ad for a "4 week free trial". I signed up on their website for the free trial, which required me to enter my credit card details. After signing up, I was charged $69.99 to my visa that same day (April 3 2020).

I have contacted the company numerous times via email trying to get a refund. I got automated responses back. I did finally hear back from them saying my membership had passed weeks, that's why I was charged.

This is false. My membership was only 1 day into the free trial.

They have not refunded me. I want $69.99 credited back to my visa.

On the website, when I try to cancel my membership, they make you fill out a multi-page form that leads to a final page saying "You must call this phone number in order to cancel your membership". They provide a fake phone number.

There is no way of communicating with this company. On April 8th, I tried writing posts on Shaw Academy's Facebook page. They have not replied. However, there are numerous angry customers and shared stories on the Facebook page that are similar to mine. This company has scammed many people.

In conclusion, I want my $69.99 refunded and I don't want to see another person get scammed by this company. Their "4 week free trial" ad is false. There is no customer service support and there is no convenient way to cancel a membership.

My money has been refunded.

I did the free trial. I didn't like the service. I aksed to cancel, they replied confirming they did so, but I was still charged for the next 2 months
I subscribed to Shaw academys free trial on the 8th of December 2019. I was looking forward to the service but realised I was too busy to avail of it. I forgot about my subscription so I was still charged for the trial after 1 month to the value of 39.99 on the 9/1/20. I didn't notice until a second payment of the same value was taken on the 11/2/20. I understand this was my fault so I accepted these payments were final. I emailed them on the 2/3/20, after I noticed these payments, asking for the possiblity of a refund as I hadn't used the service or if they could just cancel my membership if a refund wasn't possible. I received a long friendly email the next day from one of their members of staff, Parnel, the issue ticket number for my query was #XXXXXXX. He was helpful and assured me my membership was cancelled, and claimed I could avail of there service for 6 months for free! I accepted what he said but noticed on there app there was no way of telling if I had 6 months free access or not. I forgot about it as the membership was apparently cancelled and I left it be. No payment was taken for March so I thought everything was fine. But then in April, the 8/4/20, a payment for 39.99 was again taken from my account. I replied to the same employee, Parnel, on the 8/4/20, issue ticket number for the query was #XXXXXXX, stating what had happened and I received an almost identical email to the previous with the same claim that my account was cancelled and with the same offer of 6 months free.
I replied again to this email thread, complaining my problem was not resolved even though they claimed it was and I didn't received a reply unlike the last 2 emails. I tried to cancel through their website, which advised me to call them. I called their Irish contact XXXXXXXXXX and went through several stages of being offered new deals as I continued to try cancel until finally the voice called out an email address, which waa hard to hear I think it was ***@shawacademy.com, I did not contact as I assume I will run into more issues and have no chance to get my April payment back, which I feel was wrongfully taken from me. Now I'm worried I will not be charged for May but the same cycle will begin in June and continue, even if I complain again. I didn't want to think this company was scamming me, but a decent company that respects there customers would make it clear and easy to cancel a service the customer no longer wants.

Desired Outcome

I'm worried i will not be charged for May but the same cycle will begin in June and continue, even if i complain again. I didn't want to think this company was scamming me, but a decent company that respects there customers would make it clear and easy to cancel a service they no longer want. This is not the case with my experience of Shaw Academy and i want to be refunded for my April payment, officially cancel my membership and not hear from them afterwards. I mention this as I've read several customers who eventually, successfully cancel their memberahips then received rude and aggressive follow-up calls/emails from the company wondering why they left. When doing a simple Google search i found lots of positive review but after digging deeper i found it all to be apparently fake, with lots of customers having the same issues as me with cancelling their membership or contacting Shaw academy. Your website showed the most evidence of this which is why I'm using the Revdex.com service.

Shaw Academy Response • Apr 24, 2020

Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

Will not allow me to close my account.
I made an account with Shaw's today (April 6th, 2020) for a free trial of one of their courses. Instantly I received 2 automated phone calls and a spam of emails. After getting some bad vibes that this is a scam, I looked into them and now want to cancel my trial and delete my account. I went through the process of "canceling" my trial on their site just to be directed to a number to call to cancel my account. Awesome. Call the number, and it just runs you through a 'ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THAT' menu for maybe 10-ish minutes before giving you a email address that you must submit a cancellation request to. Okay let's email then. Emailed the request line just to receive an automated message back that I 'must use a verified emailed to submit a request'. What? Go back to the original email that has the 'VERIFY MY ACCOUNT' button annnnnnnd NOTHING. There's no way to verify so I can cancel my trial. There is no way to get out of my 'TRIAL' even though I went through all of their steps.

Desired Outcome

I want my account canceled and to never be contacted by Shaw Academy again.

Shaw Academy Response • Apr 24, 2020

Dear Student,

Cancelled before free trial expired but still charged
I signed up for a 30 day trial with Shaw Academy. I called in to cancel before the trial ended. The sales rep was the rudest I've ever spoken to in my life. He kept disputing why I wanted to cancel my subscription and spoke very out of bounds. Finally he agreed to cancel and sent me a cancellation confirmation email. on March 17th, 2 days before
my free trial ended. I've been trying to get my money back and the rep said they had no record of the conversation, even though it was attached to the email.

Desired Outcome

I want the 59.99 charge refunded.

Shaw Academy intentionally makes cancellation difficult. I am unable to cancel my free trial, membership, and deactivate my account.
I signed up for a "free trial" a few days ago, and I immediately know it's not for me because the content is mediocre at best.

1. When I tried to cancel, I got 6-7 web redirects asking me "Are you sure?."
2. Then I was told to call the number (XXX) XXX-XXXX, which led me to several more of the same question above. You sure? Are you sure? Are you REALLY sure?
3. Finally, I was given an email (***@shawacademy.com) where I can request for my membership to be cancelled.
4. I sent my request but instead received an email from them saying an associate would be in contact.
5. I still cannot cancel my membership.

Desired Outcome

Confirmation of cancellation of my trial membership along with the deactivation of my account. In addition, do not send me any marketing emails again.

No answer after multiple requests to cancel
I did enroll on the 4 week trial and I did enjoy after that I recieved an email stating that the diploma will be free of charge if I attend the last 2 lessons(7and 8) which did but still I was billed $29.99 for it. After couple days I was billed $59.99 for the subscription I called the CS after all those press 1 press 2 they ask you to email them to cancel and I did. Since I didn't have the money in my account to cover the charge my bank refused the payment and I had to pay them a fee of course. And today 5/6/20 they are billing me again for $59.99 this is such a BS I did ask to cancel the subscription but no answer. I just want this to stop!

Desired Outcome

I want my money back!

Trying to cancel subscription.
The cancellation system is very suspicious. They tell you to call a number to cancel which is an automation. Then they try to guilt you into keeping the subscription with back to back offers. Then when you get to the last offer and refuse they say email them to cancel subscription. After you do that. There is no confirmation email stating the subscription is cancelled. They say someone will contact you and thats it. Then In noticed my credit card had been charged twice for "Card Validation". I have never encountered that ever.

Desired Outcome

My subscription to be cancelled and this company to be investigated for their practices.

No Specific Deadline Mentioned, Different deadline mentioned on call, USD 59.99 deducted suddenly, No one is responding on email. Cancel & Refund Need
Biggest and the only scam I fell into is Shaw Academy.
I came across Shaw Academy on Facebook. I saw free classes for 4 weeks and I registered. I went to cancel and they extended my trial period. Then, I got a call from Shaw Academy telling that your date is near if you want to cancel, but I went to check the website the date was 22nd March 2020, hence I didn't cancel. Then I went to cancel my membership, there are a dozen of steps to cancel, and at the final step, they ask to call a US Number.
Problem# 1: Why should I call to cancel my membership?
Then when I called at the number, there are again a dozen of steps at the end of which they ask to send an email to ***@shawacademy.org
I have been following up with ***@shawacademy.org to cancel and refund my money.
I haven't got a single reply for the last 15 days.
Now my credit card is stuck in Shaw Academy website, and probably they'll deduct USD 59.99 again after 14 days.
I want to file a complaint that Shaw Academy is a scam and some serious action needs to be taken on them. I am not going to keep quiet and want Shaw Academy to be punished even if they refund my money.
There are 3 email threads going on and I raised another issue today on which there was an automated reply. Shaw Academy fools students, locks in credit card details and never replies after that. This is their business model, seriously?
Problem Date: 22nd March 2020
Purchase Date: 22nd March 2020
Payment Amount: USD 59.99
Payment Method: AMEX Credit Card

Desired Outcome

This is not just about me. Like me, there are thousands of students who registered on Shaw Academy and put their credit card details and then they charge monthly fee and never let the students cancel the subscription and they they never refund or reply There is no way to reach out to them once money is deducted. 1. I want my money back 2. There would be some US law on Fraud prevention and protection by online educators. Can you sue Shaw Academy on other students' behalf?
