Payment taken after cancellation. Company refuse to refund
I enrolled with Shaw Academy on 30/04/2020 and cancelled on 08/05/2020 by telephone and received an email confirmation stating I would not be charged. On 28/05/2020 £49.99 was taken from my bank account. I have tried to contact Shaw Academy by telephone but cannot get through to anyone and have sent emails to every address I can find. The only response I have had is an automated message saying I have not followed the terms and conditions which say I had to cancel within 28 days.

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund of £49.99 and an apology for the stress and worry they have caused.

This company is a scam!
I signed up for trial, tried it for 5 days maybe and I didn't like it. So I canceled my trial but later I was charged $59.

I signed up for trial, tried it for 5 days maybe and I didn't like it. So I canceled my trial but later I was charged $59. When I email to them about this issue all what they tried to do is convince me to buy another membership with "discount".

Desired Outcome

Refund

Shaw Academy offers a 4 week free trial. They charged me on the day it was over and on the next day when I cancelled they did not want to give a refund
I signed up for a 4 week free trial with Shaw Academy. I have started in on April 30. I've already been charged on my credit card. On May 28 I have already got a charge on my credit card for a premium subscription. I have never been sent a reminder when my trial expires. I have canceled it the day after that and the company refuses to give the money back as I am "supposedly" one day over. I have not used any services in the last week or so of the trial nor after it was over. In customer service, they first told me that they cannot refund me because I have bought extra information from the cite ( that I did not). After that they changed their minds and said that they cannot refund me because I am over my trial period. They are trying to find every reason ( and even make one) to not give money back.

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund for the service of $69.99

Exactly what I asked for. Thanks

Received 2 charges of £49.99 over the space of a month without accessing or being notified of these charges before hand.
I have queried this previously with Shaw academy. Signed up to receive a free course and had to enter bank details to receive this. Did not access any course or material and sent email cancellation. I was charged 49.99 in Dec 2019 and then again in January. When emailed to rectify, was told cancellation was not received. Emails went back and forth, explained I'd had no communication or receipts of payment, no course material had ever been accessed and no cost had been attributed to the company on my behalf and got offered some ridiculous 6 month access to something that I again had no intention of using. I have emailed again regarding this and just kept getting automated responses until now they refuse to reply. I believe that this falls foul of Distance selling regulations. For 2 payments of 49.99 I have received nothing and accessed nothing. This was all done at a sensitive time with my mental health, something that again was explained and dismissed. As payments came out of my paypal account, they were not noticed hence the delay in contacting them until january

Desired Outcome

Refund of my payments

I signed up to a free trial but rung up immediately to cancel, which was confirmed. However I was still charged, was lied to and denied a refund.
I signed up to a free 4 week trial at Shaw Academy in Sports and Exercise Nutrition on May 27, but after gaining access I realised it was not at all what I had expected and so decided to cancel straight away. I immediately rung them up, spoke to Lannice who after offering me many free bribes to try and get me to stay (all of which I declined), confirmed cancellation of my membership. I also received an email from Lannice confirming cancellation on the same day. However, I was charged £39.95 for something I had no idea what it was, and when I contacted them asking for a refund, they said I had not cancelled within my 4 week trial period and was thus charged. This was a blatant mistake as I had cancelled immediately. After querying this further they then said the "certificate" I had purchased could not be refunded, but they would offer me a free toolkit and that they had activated it on my account for me. This is after I had already asked for my account to be cancelled, had it confirmed, and I had declined the free toolkit and other bribes, they still went ahead without my consent and charged me for things they had offered for free, and re-activated them after already confirming they had cancelled them for me. They got my trial date completely wrong and lied about it, have taken money from my account and purchased something on my behalf and against my consent re-activated my account.

Desired Outcome

I would like the charge of £39.95 to be paid back to me, as they had no right to take it from my account under these circumstances.

Hi,

Regarding my above case. After I posted a number of negative reviews Shaw Academy finally refunded the money in the hope that I would remove the bad review (which of course I didn't as they should not be able to get away with treating customers like this). Thanks for your help, they are definitely a fraudulent company worth taking down.

Many thanks

without authorisation I've been signed up for a shaw academy program and charged 100£. I need an immediate refund of the FULL amount stolen.
Signed up for a free program.
No emails sent to me to confirm the program.
Later on 50£ taken for no reason, just listed as shaw academy in my transactions
a few days later charged another 50£
A total of 100£

Ive had the bank block the company from taking more money from me without authorisation. but I require a full refund.
they have signed me onto other programs without my permission and taken my money.

Desired Outcome

FULL REFUND OF THE 100£ stolen from me.

The learning program is not that bad but my PROBLEMS with Shaw Academy started when I purchased only one toolkit which cost 29.95â?¬ and the day after I check in my bank account that I was charged two times or the same product. Immediately I contacted via e-mail and afterward, I get a response from a representative named "Paul" which wrote to me to apply for my refund click this unique number. After I tried to log in my account as I was told from "Paul" I could not log in and I wrote a second time which led to the same ending, no solution. And today I see an unauthorized additional 29.95â?¬ purchased which I DID NOT DO.
Now I need to talk personally to my bank and find a solution because this is a total SCAM!

Shaw Academy wrongfully took $69.99 out of my account after I canceld.
On May 28,2020, Shaw Academy took $69.99 out of my bank account WITHOUT authorization after their "free trial." I made SURE to cancel all aspects of them so there wouldn't be money lost. But, they went ahead and took money anyway. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I can NOT afford to lose THAT kind of money to some watered down service like shaw academy. they refuse to refund me my "purchase" back to my bank card. I made sure to cancel before they got a chance to charge my card. instead, they offered me some stupid membership I did not want, as I did not even enjoy my "free trial." please, I am begging you to help me in this situation. as I said, during the pandemic I can NOT afford to lose THAT kind of money and I need it to feed my family!!! shaw academy is a SCAM!!!

Desired Outcome

I want a FULL refund and not some stupid membership they had to offer me. We are in a pandemic right now and i am struggling for money as it is from my job. if i cannot get this money back, how will i be able to feed my family? please, i am begging you to get my money back from this scam of a company. i know you will do your best to help me.

I fully accept that they give me my money back. thank you

I requested a refund because I had a trial membership and I had made an attempt to cancel. I was charged today and had canceled again with no refund
The company makes it very hard to cancel your membership with them. In order to cancel with them you have to try for separate times and then have to call them with a bot asking you for separate times if you want to really cancel or not. I had thought they canceled my service originally but I must not of been able to push it through because I have to make so many times just to cancel my membership. So I re-canceled my membership today called them and my membership now should be canceled but I have emailed them and they will not refund my money. I am convinced that this company is a scam.

Desired Outcome

I am looking for a refund of the amount I was charged from my bank account which was $70.

I was charged for a monthly membership subscription after cancelling my account and the company refuses to refund me.
I signed up for a 4 week free trial with Shaw Academy. It was made clear that if I cancelled prior to the end of the 4 weeks, I would not be charged. I tried to cancel online, but it said I had to phone into the company. I phoned on May 5, 2020. I have a record of the phone call. I was told that my account was cancelled and I would not be charged. Two weeks later, I was charged $69.99 CAD on May 18, 2020. I have reached out to Shaw Academy to try and amend this with them directly; however, they refuse to refund me, even though they have acknowledged that I cancelled the membership. I wish I could have solved this problem with the company directly, but, unfortunately, they are not helping me with my concern.

Thank you

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund to my credit card and then I would like my card removed from the company's database to avoid any charges in the future.

My card was used fraudulently to create an account on their site. I wish to cancel it but none of their provided resources are available to do it.
My bank had contacted me because of a fraudulent usage of my card. I investigated it and saw that it was used to create an account on Shaw Academy. I immediately got on the site and tried to cancel it. They gave me a phone number to call and a code (XXXXX) to refer to during the call. I called them today (May 28th) and got on an automated line, went through the whole process and the auto teller told me the account has been cancelled and an email would be sent to me. I have received no email, and the account is still active. The person on the phone did not even ask me for the reference code so how would it know which account to cancel. This needs to be resolved right away. Very unfortunate also that shaw academy makes it so difficult for clients to cancel their accounts, even going so far as to make the cancellation process over the phone so lengthy and unnecessarily demanding. I also tried sending emails but even that is given to some automated system. It is obvious they encounter this problem often, and wish to avoid resolving it so they can make cash grabs.

Desired Outcome

I want my account cancelled. All charges to my card refunded immediately and any personal data removed from their records.

I unsubscribed, why was I still debited
I subscribed to a free trial, after 1 class I decided I did not like the class and didn't want to continue. I received a call from an associate of Shaw academy indicating that I would receive a discounted price. I subsequently unsubscribed. My credit card was still debited and I am concerned that it continues in the coming months. I cannot get back to the unsubscribe point as I no longer have a class.

Desired Outcome

A full refund and no further charges

I accept their response because I was charged wrongfully. I appreciate them rectifying the situation

Was charged for a membership after I went through all of the possible ways to cancel my subscription within the time frame specified.
I took a 4 week free class in photography from Shaw Academy. My last class was on May 22nd. I wanted to cancel my subscription on that day. I pushed several buttons indicating I was cancelling. I was then told I needed to call a number to fully cancel. This number was not available until Monday. I was charged 69.99 on Sunday. When I called the number on Monday it was an automated call trying to sell me more items. I have since written several emails trying to resolve the issue only to get more automated responses. I followed all of the procedures for cancelling and would like a refund.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of the 69.99 that was charged to my card.

Multiple attempts at cancelling subscription made, still charged twice. Automated responses from all customer service avenues.
I signed up for the free trial of their online graphic design course on 23/03/2020. For a free course I was satisfied with the level of instruction, so I attended the lessons. I received at minimum two emails a day of mostly advertising. Every lesson also mentioned several times that students would have access to discount codes for 15% off purchasing Adobe software once those free trials ran out. I put up with this aggressive marketing during the free trial but decided the lessons were not worth paying for, so I selected the "Remind Me Later" feature on the cancellation page a few weeks into the course, but I received no such reminder.
On 20/04/2020 my credit card was charged $69.99 by Shaw Academy. At this point I was mostly annoyed at myself for not following up on my cancellation earlier. I contacted ***@shawacademy.com on 22/04 to voice my complaint. Their support site points students to email support for access to the promised Adobe codes, so in my email I requested information on how to access the codes. I got an automated email right away giving my query an ID number (#XXXXXXX) and which stated that support staff would address the concern within 48 hours.
On 28/04, well over 48 hours later, I finally received a response which was clearly also automated. The email opens as if I had recently purchased a Tool Kit (which I had not). It goes on to say that it would give access to the other Tool Kits in compensation and that this would be activated on my account (which is not the case).
Since this first subscription charge could be argued to be my fault for forgetting to cancel in time, I did not push too much. I did not use the service for a few weeks because it was a stressor that I wanted to avoid thinking about for the time being.
In the final week of this subscription month I went back to watch the recorded lessons. There were fewer of them in this Module (6 as opposed to 8 in the trial) and in reading the lesson plans I knew I did not want to continue. I watched the lessons I thought might be interesting which lessened my feelings that anything was amiss as they are providing the service I begrudgingly paid for.
Figuring the next withdrawal date would be 18/05, on Saturday 16/05 I went online to watch a few more videos before cancelling the subscription. My previous visits to the cancellation page involved clicking through pages where they try to sway you against cancelling and losing access to the site, and I had previously stopped on the "Remind Me Later" page. This time I had to click through a few more pages that then brought me to a page that says that I have to call +X XXX XXX XXXX to confirm my cancellation, with an account reference #XXXXX. The call center hours are 11am-8pm EST Mon-Fri so I could not cancel on the weekend. May 18 that I was to be charged was a Holiday Monday in Canada, so the lines were closed yet I was of course still charged $69.99. The next morning 19/05 I called at 11:57 am, before my scheduled 1pm course so that I could argue that I had not used the service yet. It was a 5-minute phone call with an automated voice where I "pressed 2 to cancel" about 5 times. My reference number was never asked for, but I was told I would receive an email confirming the cancellation (which I have not received). I used the phone number registered to my account, but otherwise no information was collected.
On 21/05 I received an email from "William", the "head of Education at Shaw Academy" noting that I had missed this week's lessons that I was enrolled in. This is the same generic format as all their previous communications. The emails always suggest replying to them with any questions or concerns, so I did. On 22/05 I outlined my complaints in a email to "William". This time I did not even receive an auto-reply that it had been received. I waited a few business days, still no response. I called once more today (28/05) and heard hold-music for over 30 minutes before I finally gave up.

Desired Outcome

Ideally, I would like a full refund. The service I received after paying for it was not worth the money even without the hassle of trying to cancel. If it were not for the fact that pre-recorded instructional videos were being posted at the agreed upon time, I would have immediately seen this as a scam. Nothing else that has been advertised has been delivered, and no attempts at contacting customer service get through to a real person. Even while paying for the service I am currently receiving between 2-4 advertising emails a day from Shaw Academy offering one-click payments for lesson supplements or reduced prices for ordering a diploma. This morning I finally received access to the 15% off Adobe Creative Cloud that had been advertised from the beginning and that I had asked for access to over a month ago (screenshot attached). Instead they are able to keep up the façade of being an educational service, preying on people's insecurities about the current climate of employment instability. When attempting to cancel, the user is made to feel like they are wasting an opportunity that will open doors for them in the future with highly pressuring language being used. I have no need for this online diploma and joined as a hobby, so in my case these messages only angered me, but I can see how this might trigger others to respond differently. I made attempts to cancel before each time that I was charged, and I therefore have no confidence that any of my more recent attempts will result in a cancellation without pressure from a third party. My 19/05 phone call to cancel, after "pressing 2" to cancel 5 times, said the words that my subscription would be cancelled but no additional account information was collected and I received no email concerning the cancellation which indicates to me that it had no effect. Again, I called today, on 28/05, and the number that I previously contacted to cancel only plays hold music.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
On June 3rd I received Shaw's response through the Revdex.com with the above response, citing another priority email through which to contact them for "refund related assistance", as well as an email directly from Shaw Academy saying my subscription had FINALLY been cancelled. The cancellation was the most important thing for me personally (although next week is the next billing cycle so I'll still be double checking to see that I'm not still being charged), however in my complaint I was seeking a refund which I felt was justified. The response through the Revdex.com provides a priority email as if that is the way to get in contact with a real person who will respond, and that this real person will provide "refund related assistance" which *impliesthat they will be providing a refund - but the language also does not guarantee it. I sent an email to ***@shaw.ca the very same day using the format they requested, providing my Revdex.com case number as well as any membership info they might need. They already have my credit card information so it should not be that hard, but I was willing to provide any info that would make it easier or faster to process the refund. Moments after sending that email I got one of their classic automated responses saying that my email had been received and I was given a case number and told that a representative would be getting back to me within 48 hours. A week later on June 11th I realized that I still had not gotten a response, so I emailed them again gently reminding them that there were a few days left before I responded back to the Revdex.com. As of yet I have not received any further correspondence (besides the usual advertising emails 3 times a day - I hadn't blocked them yet to see if they would ease up when a complaint had been filed, and they only got more aggressive in tone). At this point I don't care so much about the refund. Shaw Academy's response to my complaint is to just continue operating in a shady and misleading manner while not following though on anything ever. Real companies spew meaningless corporate jargon all the time but still do the bare minimum of following through when customers complain. Shaw Academy uses the standard phrasing of "We give the highest priority to the quality of education and support to our students and we would like to make things right" while making it clear they really can't be bothered to even pretend anymore.

My card expired before the end of my free trial, and I chose not to update the info. Shaw obtained my updated card and charged me without my consent.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy in early 2020, and quickly realized it was not something I was interested in continuing with. When I attempted to cancel, they made the process very difficult and time consuming. I was busy at the time and took an offer of an extended free trial until I could cancel at a later date.

Before the end of my free trial, I received an e-mail stating that my card on file was expiring, and I needed to update the information or risk losing my account. Since I was ultimately interested in cancelling, I neglected to update my information, thinking this would solve my problem and end my account. I never updated or approved new payment information.

On May 27, Shaw charged me a subscription fee. I immediately cancelled my account and requested a refund based on the situation described above. They denied my request, claiming that I had agreed to the terms and services in my free trial. They did not, however, acknowledge the potentially deceitful nature of obtaining a customer's updated card information post expiration. On these grounds, I maintain a refund request with Shaw Academy in the amount of $60 USD.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund for the subscription fee charged without my consent in the amount of $60, and a confirmation that my card information has been removed entirely from their files.

I accept a refund for $39.95

I recently had a free trial with SA. I cancelled my membership before the trial ended, and the money had been taken out
I cancelled the trial before it was over, however I got an email stating that money was being taken out, which I did not authorise. I emailed shaw academy, they stated they couldn't offer me a refund but offered my 12 months free instead, however I stated that I wished to not continue with the study but this seemed the only choice I was given. i've seen here that they've granted refunds to customers when I was told there was no way at all for a refund to be processed. the only way to be granted the free trial was to put my card details

Desired Outcome

i would rather just have the money back than continue with the study

I was charged $34.95 for a Certificate I never purchased and they refused to refund me.
Last Friday on May 22 I started a photography course at shaw academy. It was a 30-day trial but I still had to provide my banking account information in case I want to continue taking the course and I have to pay for the next month.
The same day I was charged $34.95 for some sort of a certificate.
I tried to email them many times but instead of refunding me or even try to help me, they offered me toolkits etc.
The next day after seeing all the bad reviews online I cancelled my membership and I emailed them again about my refund, I explained that I never purchased it and somehow I was charged. All they said was you must have clicked on something and you bought this and we can not refund you. This has never happened to me and I am very very disappointed and shocked how can someone just charge you for something you never bought. Also I have no email confirmation that I purchased something. I just noticed it on my credit card and imailed them. On top of that, they refused to refund me. Even though I cancelled my membership and unsubscribed I still get annoying emails and even text messages about the course.

Desired Outcome

I want them to apologies and refund me. Also I never want to hear from them, no emails no text messages, just nothing.
