Shaw Academy Reviews (2754)

Ended my free trial before the end date and was still charged £49.99 as they are accusing me of reactivating my membership when I did no such thing.
I saw a 4 week free trial for Shaw Academy and subsequently signed up. After reading a lot of dodgy reviews about being wrongly charged and being constantly harassed by phone calls and emails, I decided to cancel my membership on the 2nd of April by call. I then received an email the same day to state I had cancelled it at 11:57am. At 12:14pm I received an email welcoming me 'back on track.' This was suspicious as I had literally cancelled it 17mins ago and had not reactivated it. I called again to confirm it was cancelled and sent another email just in case to the support team to confirm I had cancelled it, which they confirmed it had and that I would not be charged. From that point on I did not reactivate my membership, but I had read numerous reviews that have said that Shaw Academy had reactivated it themselves and subsequently taken payment. After a few weeks, I thought everything was okay, until I noticed on the 26th May Shaw Academy had taken £49.99 from my bank. This is fraud. How this company is still running is beyond me after the numerous complaints I have read and should have read before signing up.

Please issue a refund or I will take this matter further.

It is not fair, nor legal, to scam this much money from someone, especially people like me who cannot afford it, even more so in a time like this where I am currently unemployed because of corona.

Sort it out please.

Desired Outcome

Full refund of £49.99 which was wrongly taken from my account.

I signed up for a trial which required a credit card. However the card was used to charge for a service I did not want
I signed up for the trial subscription which required a credit card on file in case I decided to continue the membership. When I was exploring the site, I clicked on something on the page to see more information about it but I was charged for a service I did not want. I emailed the business immediately to get a reversal and they refused to give me a refund. They offered me other services I didn't want but I only wanted a refund for the original service. This company misled me into thinking the credit card information was only used to bill me for my monthly membership but instead, it is used to charge for unnecessary and unwanted resources on the website without authorization.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of 39.95.

I signed up for the free 4-week photography sessions. Shaw Academy has withdrawn funds from my account without permission.
I am at the end of my free 4-week photography sessions and Shaw Academy has withdrawn funds from my account without permission. I sent them an email a few days ago inquiring about clarity to the cancellation process and I never received a response. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to take my last two sessions before canceling. When I logged in to my account and looked for detailed information on cancellations, there was none. While doing this, there was a statement that said if you don't cancel now we will remind you a day before the last day you can cancel, I never received a reminder. About 30 minutes ago, it is now 2:25pm Eastern Time on May 26, 2020, they withdrew funds from my account.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of $69.99 for the funds that were withdrawn from my account on May 26, 2020.

I joined Shaw Academy for a free period, and I canceled my subscriptions before the free period end. But I got charged on my credit card.
I joined Shaw Academy for a free period, and I canceled my subscriptions before the free period end. But I got charged on my credit card.

I saw online advertising from Shaw Academy, promoting to join these subscriptions service for free for 30 days before I have to pay for the monthly subscriptions. I joined the program, hoping to see if the classes they provide are good or not. I had to put in my credit card number, which I thought it is a normal process for subscription services.

Cancelation process.
I joined the program around mid-March. I believed that I did not receive the confirmation email. However, they charged my card once on March 24 for $0.50 and then refunded. I tried the service once, but I wouldn't say I liked it. I tried to cancel my subscription on their website, but it said I have to call to cancel. I called them turned out I could not reach a staff person but a computer recorded voice trying to sell me more. At the end of the call, it said I have to send an email to cancel.

At this point, I believe that this is some type of scam.

I sent an email on April 01, 2020 (ticket no. (#XXXXXXX)), to cancel my service and to make sure that I will not get charged on my card. I got a reply on April 03. I also asked them to delete my account and my information because I don't trust the company. They replied and said it would take 30 days to delete my account. At that point, I thought I would not be changed from the company cause I canceled my service within the free trial period.

On May 13, I got charged on my card for $59.99, what I was concerned had come. I sent an email to the company right away, asking for a refund. They replied on May 15 (Ticket no (#XXXXXXX)), and they refused to make a refund. They said they are subscription service, not a free service. I sent emails back and forth with them, trying to understand why they withdrew money from my card. They could not provide a useful answer. And They wanted to shut me up by told me to use the service that I already paid for because they will not refund.

I tried log-in to my account on May 22, I could not log in to my account. I believe they have deleted my account as per my request, but they still decided to charge on my card on May 13.

They also ever sent me any receipts or email confirmation for the free trial.

Desired Outcome

I want the Shaw Academy to refund me $59.99 that they charged on my credit card on May 13. I canceled my subscriptions before the trial period ends. I believe that I am not supposed to get charged here. I also have seen many cases claims on Revdex.com about Shaw Academy with the same situation as my case. I also want Shaw Academy to delete my account and payment information. Last time I requested them to remove my payment info, it turned out that they were still able to chill on my card. I don't want what this to happen again to me or anyone. I also would like Shaw Academy to change its cancellation process. It should not be difficult for the consumer to decided to join or cancel services that not meet their needs.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They said that they could not find the email that I use to register Revdex.com; ***@gamil.com, in their system. That's correct because I use the different email, my school email, ***@emerson.edu, to register with ShawAcademy. According to their request, I send an email to them directly that my school email is what I used to register. I sent an email to ***@shawacademy.com as they told me to on June 3, 2020. I just got an email back from them on June 11, 2020.

One of the major points in the email said, "We ask all our students to insert a payment method which means that we, as a commercial entity, will be paid after the specific upon an agreed time has elapsed, from the day the account is created."

I perfectly understand that. However, I canceled my subscription before the 30 free trial period ends. I have an email contact to the ShawAcademy team talking about cancelation before the 30 trial period ends. So I have a firm belief that if they promote their service by said a free trial for 30 days. If I don't like the service and cancel within 30 days, I should not had to pay. If I did not cancel my service within the 30 days, I would understand if I got a charge on my card. But in this case, I did cancel my service within the period.

I asked for my account activities; they could not provide that to me. I don't know how they can run a business like this if it might be because they intentionally or unintentionally did not cancel my account when I asked them to, as they hope to charge my card.

Charged me for services, even though I cancelled within their free trial period. Refuse to give me a refund on their faulty charges
I signed up for a free trial. After 2-3 days of the free trial I decided that their services wouldn't be something I would enjoy. So I called and cancelled well before their 30 day trial window ended. I thought all was fine, until their charged me a month later, and then stating I knew what I was in for. I then notified them that I cancelled 2 days into their 40 day free trial and I wanted a refund. They are still refusing the refund

Desired Outcome

I just want my money refunded.

Charged my credit card/unable to cancel my account.
I signed up for a 4 week trial period and clicked an option on their website to be alerted when my trial period was up. I never received a message and my credit card has been charged. I'm now trying to cancel my account and I was given a phone number to call. I called and received a voicemail, I left a message and haven't heard back. Now when I log into their website, I'm given a pop up with account options to purchase and cannot close the window or click anywhere on the website to access my account page.
In addition to all this, as soon as I signed up, I received spam in the form of numerous phone calls, texts and e-mails on a daily basis. I also received phone calls at 2:00 am twice. This is not professional business conduct and is harassment and fraudulent.
I never bought an account option and have been charged $69.99 to my credit card. I want a refund and to cancel my account with them.

Desired Outcome

I never bought an account option and have been charged $69.99 to my credit card. I want a refund and to cancel my account with them.

I clicked on a button by mistake and it shows that I have now bought a Toolkit for a Photography Module for $39.95. It did not ask me for confirm.
I signed up for the 4-week free trial course for the Photography lesson. I clicked on a button on one of their website pages while trying to navigate the website for the course I had signed up for. Now, it shows me that I have bought a $39.95 worth of "Module Toolkit." I really do not need this toolkit and I would like a refund. The website is full of trappings like this, where the payment information stored with the company is used to immediately bill the customer for extraneous purchases.

Desired Outcome

I would simply like a refund for the $39.95 that I did not choose to spend on the toolkit.

Isigned up for a free trial, cancelled, yet still got billed.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy on April 19, 2020 and I cancelled on April 20,2020 due to me googling Shaw Academy and finding that it is not accredited and then many of people have had issues. I never received a confirmation e-mail that I cancelled. I tried to call the number on April 20th as well and there was no answer, said the office was closed. I kept getting emails stating I was late to class- I never took ONE class. Well yesterday I got billed $69.99 for a premium monthly membership.Which is strange in itself because I signed up for the lowest plan, I believe it was $50/month. I sent an email right away, I went into Paypal and cancelled the recurring charge, as I didn't know that was available(new to using paypal) I've reached out to them via e-mail and once again I do not get a response. I tried to call the number today and once again it says the office is closed and to reach out via e-mail, BUT THEY DON'T ANSWER. I would like my money refunded at once and to be ensured I will not be charged again. Please handle this right away as money is ridiculously tight do to COVID. I'm a single mother, not working and I need that $69.99 for more important things like food and diapers. Thank You!

Desired Outcome

I wish to be refunded the full amount, I don't want anything else. I just want my money back.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Shaw Academy proceeded to illegally withdraw money from my business account given the fact that I cancelled my membership within the trial period.
On 19 April 2020 I signed up for online Social Media Management courses with Shaw Academy. I was asked to provide my credit card details in order to start a free trial of 4 (four) weeks and I was reassured that I can cancel anytime within the trial period and I will not be charged any fees.
I submitted my card details (available on request)
I did cancel a few days later.
On 19 May 2020 Shaw Academy withdrew £49.99 (via the VISA details I had provided) from my business account with Santander Bank / Account number: XXXXXXXX / Sort code: XX-XX-XX / Holder: *** the company of which I am the Director.
This is an illegal and unauthorised transaction.
I have now found out through social media platforms as well as the history of complaints on Revdex.com that Shaw Academy is familiar with occurring fraudulent charges to unsuspected customers who sign up for the trial.
I send an email to complain at ***@shawacademy.com (from ***@gmail.com) and I received an email back that is a "copy-caste" like message to the responses on Revdex.com.
My reply to that email is yet to be answered.
I contacted Santander Bank today to cancel my VISA card for obvious reasons which has caused me significant inconvenience.

Kind regards

Desired Outcome

I demand a full refund and a compensation of £500 due to the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of my debit card.

Shaw Academy Response • Jun 01, 2020

Dear student,

Your account was created on 19-Apr-XXXX XX:XX. Hence the charge was made on 17-May-XXXX XX:XX at the end of the free 4 week trial.

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you

Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my debit card after I cancelled within their trial period and now refuses to process a refund.
I signed up for Shaw Academy's four-week free trial subscription on 25th of March 2020. After the first week of trial lesson, I realised it wasn't the right fit for me. Using the automated phone service as instructed on their platform, I cancelled my subscription within the trial period but never received a text or email to confirm the cancellation.

However, on the 19th of May I received notification that my account has been billed $69.99 by Shaw Academy. I logged on to my account and had to make sure I cancelled my card and membership. I sent an email to their billing department to request for a refund since I already unsubscribed before hand during the first month of my subscription. I tried to dispute their claim that I cancelled past the trial period and they gave me assurance that my membership has been cancelled - after they have already taken my money.

Since the cancellation happened over the phone, I have no paper trail to prove the date. I requested Shaw Academy to provide the date on their system or evidence to show when I cancelled my membership and so far they haven't address this matter. Instead, they offered me 6 months access to their online courses totally free of charge worth $399. I refused and requested again for the record when I called to cancel. This time, they upped their offer of 12-months access worth $699 totally free of charge plus one complete course toolkit and e-certificates worth $199. I replied that I find no value in their online course and being a member at Shaw Academy, and that I reiterate the cancellation of my membership.

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking for a record or receipt of my membership cancellation. And if proven that it was done within the free trial period, I'm seeking a refund of $69.99.

Shaw Academy Response • Jun 01, 2020

Impossible to cancel. Given an inactive number to cancel and never answered my email to "support" to cancel.
Liked the initial class but didn't work with my schedule so attempted to cancel free trial. Had to look up online how to cancel. Went to cancel and had to click through multiple chances to turn back and change my mind (like 4) finally get to the end but instead of canceling I was given an inactive phone number to call with a cr. Took a screen shot and called the number. Wasn't active. Go back online and find their support email and contacted that way. That was may 1st, 2 weeks before charge date. Never answered. Charged may 21 for 69.99. Go back online to attempt to recancel again given a new phone number that seems to be working but completely different from the first and no one answered, only an automatwd message. Very suspicious and believe to be a scam now. I still have the screenshots of the my attempted cancels and the email if needed.

Desired Outcome

Refund and fix this issue of being unable to cancel and actually be available for contact.

Shaw Academy promised me was promised: 12-months access worth $699 totally free of charge plus one complete course toolkit and e-certificates worth $1
I had prior fought a $59.95 retraction from my PayPal account through Shaw. I canceled "day of" and they would not honor my refund based on their agreements. I fought this through PayPal and many emails exchanges. They refused to send back the $59.95 but instead in April 14 they're last resolution to me was: "I have tried to come up with something further and the very best I can possibly do is to increase that to 12-months access worth $699 totally free of charge plus one complete course toolkit and e-certificates worth $199." I did not resume or reactivate my account with them. I reached out on May 22 and asked the question and stated: "I attempted to "restart" my membership based on the email details below, it says there will be a charge. I am not paying for another membership.I was promised:
12-months access worth $699 totally free of charge plus one complete course toolkit and e-certificates worth $199."
I received a response back on the same thread (this response was deleted by another agent on the thread as well). In short the person stated that I just had to go back in and resume and that the free services offered were active in my account. I went in to purchase a tool kit on social media marketing. I did NOT reactivate my account or anything. How they were still able to charge me on a deactivated account is questionable as well. I was then charged. I immediately reached out again. And they stated they cannot refund me.

Desired Outcome

At this level I want the entire $59.95 and $39.95 refunded. Why? Their business practices is shady and I do not trust them any further.

Shaw academy tricked me out of money, now they will not refund it, it overdrafted my account.
May XX XXXX what I refer to as a "trick link" was accidentally clicked when I fumbled my cell phone. There was no confirmation page, no pop-up showing what you were buying. It just suddenly went from the link saying"buy" to "purchased". It immediately took $39.95 out of my account. Finally, may XX XXXX someone named "gomes" from Shaw Academy tells me in an email I cannot have a refund, but I can have a bunch of *** they are trying to push on me. Cant find ANY other contact info for the scam company. Accidentally clicking a link while your phone is falli g to the floor isnt bound by contract. This is a free trial anyway, why would I buy anything when I used sweatcoins to use the free trial. I just want my hard to come by money BACK! Thank you

Desired Outcome

I want this business to return my refund, pay for the overdraft fee they're trick link caused, remove the tricky link from their website and app so that no one else has to go through this it was ridiculous and uncalled for

Card charged after confirmed cancellation. Refund does not value what I was charged.
I signed up for the 4 week free trial on the 15th April 2020. According to the terms, if the membership was cancelled before the 28 day trial had finished no charges would be made. I attempted to cancel the day before on the 12th May, and was directed to call a UK number.

I called the number which after several steps to confirm cancellation stated that my membership had been cancelled. I have this phonecall recorded. To confirm this, I also sent an email to Shaw stating I had cancelled via the phone number Id been given from their website.

I received an email stating that my concern would be seen to within 48hrs and that this time delay would not affect the outcome. I then saw that my credit card had been charged for the month. I emailed Shaw regarding this charge, and the response I received stated that I hadn't cancelled the membership and therefore no refund could be given.

After several back and forth emails, in which I continued to state that I had cancelled before the end of the trial, and that I had documents to prove it I finally got an email stating that a refund would be issued, however it does not equal what I was charged.

Desired Outcome

I have received a refund but due to the exchange rate I have received less than what was charged. As I should NEVER have been charged to begin with I would like the exact amount returned to me. I do not feel that I should be put out of pocket due to the companies inability to provide proper service, even if it is mere dollars. It is the principal of the matter. I was charged (CAD) $88.62, and only received $82.77 back.

Free Online course if cancelled prior to a date. Cancelled and still being charged.
On 12/23/19 I have an email confirmation from Shaw Academy of my cancellation of a free 4 week online photography course. I have continued to be charged monthly. A charge was taken out in January, February, March, April, and May! $59.99 a month! I didn't check my statement until May because I was under the assumption the course was cancelled per the email confirmation from Shaw Academy stating that no charges will be taken out. I want the company to refund me this money they have stolen from me.

Our support team has informed that your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.
Thank you

I got charged 69.99 for Shaw Academy, even though I cancelled during the free trial.
I signed up for Shaw Academy on April 20th. It claimed there was a week free trial. After 3 days, I cancelled my membership through their phone system. I got the cancellation confirmation on April 23rd via email. I got charged 69.99 a few days ago anyways, despite cancelling during the free trial.

Desired Outcome

I want 69.99 refunded. It is dishonest advertising if I cancel during the free trial period, I receive an email saying I cancelled, then I'm still charged 69.99 anyways.

Unapproved $39.95 USD charge
I enrolled in a free trial course, but when I went to take the final, I was immediately charged $39.95 USD for a "one-click purchase" that was not accurately described. The site very intentionally tricks the user into thinking that upon completion of all lessons, the e-certificate will become available. They do not at all state that it will still cost you $40. After contacting the company, neither a refund nor an apology was offered. I am extremely disappointed. The process to cancel the free trial is also ridiculous, lengthy, and, quite frankly, sketchy. Do not make the same mistake I did by signing up!

Desired Outcome

I am simply requesting a refund of $39.95 USD.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Unfortunately, it did take 3 separate complaints and over 1 month for my refund to be issued, but eventually it was. I would like it to be known that Shaw Academy requested that I remove my negative reviews, which I think is unacceptable. My experience was very very poor, whether I was eventually refunded or not.
