Billed me too soon and refuse to refund the money.
The company advertises on their site as having a 30 day free trial of their services. Half way into the program I decided it was not for me and planned to cancel before being charged. However they billed me on day 28 of my free trial. There is no way for me to reach customer service over the phone. So after great difficulty I managed to find an email address to contact. I explained that I wanted a refund because at this point I was only on day 29 of my free trial and was not interested in continuing with their service. The company in questions responded saying that I signed up for a "30 day free trial" however they would not refund me despite the fact that I had not used their paid services. When I brought to their attention that they specifically advertised and had just told me in email that it was a 30 day trial and they billed me on day 28, they responded by sending me the identical email they had previously, however they changed "30 days" to "4 week". It's very dishonest and they have advertises and promises one thing, and then done another. I have screen shots and proof of all of these interactions. I've noticed a large surge in others having the same issue as me as well. So I am not an isolated case.
Desired Outcome
I would like the company to honor its word and cancel my membership as well as providing me with a full refund.

I do no accept the response because they refuse to refund me even though they charged me for the next month before my free trial was over. I cancelled on day 29 of their "free 30 day trial" yet they charged me anyway. I would like a full refund because the company went against what was advertised to me, and I have documented evidence of both the fact that they advertised a trial of 30 days and the fact that I cancelled on day 29 of said trial.

Tried a 4 weeks free course and was charged from my card. Cancelled it. Deleted the account and I have not received my refund
I bumped into an advertisement in the internet about 4 weeks free courses. I tried it and as a result, I was charged 78$ from my card. Have not received the refund yet and the Company says that they will not recieve it even if I have not use their course.
- 05/07/2020 - I've registered a new account to my email address ***@gmail.com. I thought that it would be free for the first 4 weeks but it turned out that:
- 05/07/2020 - I was charged 39$ for "Toolkit for Professional Diploma in Photography Module 1" ("Invoice # XXXXXXX Invoice Date May 07, 2020 Invoice Amount $39.95 (USD) )

- 05/09/2020 - started to write to their support. The ticket is #XXXXXXX
- 05/12/2020 - cancelled and deleted account because have not resolved the issue with refund via support.

Hi ***,
Thank you for reaching out again.
I have reviewed your email and this matter further however unfortunately there is no way at all a refund can be processed for you. Unfortunately, the issue remains that the terms and conditions were made readily available, you have clicked on the button to purchase and it clearly states that a purchase will go through with you clicking and following that process. you have completed the transaction and we have made available the content for which the payment was made. We cannot offer a refund in these circumstances as the revenue has been recognised as per our revenue recognition policies which we cannot alter.
I want to help you. During our last exchange I had offered you a Toolkit for this course, 3 module E-certificates and 1 hard copy diploma worth $199 an awful lot of money free of charge as I just want to help.
I have tried to come up with something further and the very best I can possibly do is to increase that to your Toolkit for this course, all subsequent Toolkits for this course plus all subsequent E-certificates worth $499.
I am genuinely doing everything I can to help here as your goals are important to me and us.
I have activated this for you in your account, so you now have all additional toolkits for free and plus certificates.
What I now suggest you do is go into your account and select when you want to start back studying and let's achieve your goals.
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Shaw Academy Team!
Kind regards,
Patrick

They know this I have a severe mental disorder bipolar with psychotic episode which I've been hospitalised for. Their terms aren't clear I didn't not have capacity to understand them. Also without notification they have taken payment long after the period has expired. This has left me without food, severely stressed which has set off my hypomania and feeling suicidal. This company advertised on social media relating to a months FREE trial.
I was charged for the whole month after cancelling within 48 hours.
I signed up to Shaw Academy on the 13th of May 2020, the next day I noticed activity in my paypal account - It was a 'pre approved payment' to Shaw Academy of £39.95, Immediately cancelled pre approved payments with Shaw Academy (I did not know they authorised this) I then went through 5 or 6 screens on the Shaw website to cancel my membership - (Which should of been a free trial) which all offered me a cheaper monthly subscription, eventually it got me to a screen saying I had to phone them to cancel.
I called, no answer - dodgy. Zante P. phoned me back immediately whom cancelled my account although I still receive phone calls, texts and emails from them.
I noticed earlier today (16th May) that the sum of £39.95 was taken from my bank account, I opened a dispute with paypal although this is a common occurrence with many other people - Shaw Academy is beginning to produce a reputation of scamming consumers with misleading advertisement, while making it challenging to cancel these free trial periods and ultimately charging consumers for the month period.
There are LOTS of people whom will share the same experience on reddit, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
I have recently contacted the Federal Trade Commission, I am expecting to contact my local Member of Parliament, Member of Scottish Parliament, and various political members in Ireland - Another area that has a headquarters to this devious organisation. I have contacted the Revdex.com after seeking advice from other victims of this organisation.
The screenshot provided is a screenshot I have been able to source right now from attempting to register another account and clearly displays the terms that they will not bill you in the trial period. I can't submit any other screenshots but I have several others including a paypal statement.
Desired Outcome
I am seeking a refund for the amount of £39.95 and an apology.

There are multiple complaints about this company on the Revdex.com, reddit, and google forums. Especially considering the time of covid-19, this expense is a complete waste and scam.

Make it seem it is easy to cancel from a free trial. They are sneaky - have to call long distance, not open on weekends when it's only a recording.
I signed up for a free trial and it said cancel anytime via your online account. One day before the trial ended I tried to cancel. Was told I have to call a long distance number to proceed with cancel. Was charged $69.99 CAD. Called the next day and talked to a recording that finally told me that my account has been cancelled. However, the recording did not verify my student number, email, name, or any information that they would have used to actually cancel my account.
This company is shady and I want my $69.99 refunded to my credit card. I do not authorize Shaw Academy to process any future payments from my credit card. There are so many other complaints about issues similar to this. They are sneaky and are praying on people in a crisis time. I had no intention to spend money on their service and feel tricked into what seemed like an easy process to cancel which is full of sneaky techniques to get money from people like me.
I have emailed them and asked to cancel my membership and so far have only received a confirmation email that they are processing my request. This business needs to be investigated. They are sneaky crooks.

I do not want to email this company directly any longer. They have my credit card information and I would like my money refunded ASAP.
This is from Shaw Academy terms and conditions as stated on their website -
"Cancellation: You can cancel your Shaw Academy membership at any time. If you want to enquire about a payment made on your account, please contact us at: ***@shawacademy.com. To cancel, login to your Members Area and click on the profile icon to access your student profile section. Under the Membership and Payments tab you can click on 'Cancel Membership & benefits' and follow the prompts. You will receive a couple of alternative options such as Pausing your membership or opting for a lower price plan. For a specific subset of students, you may be prompted to complete cancellation over the phone using a free phone number presented to you."
***YOU CAN CANCEL YOUR SHAW ACADEMY MEMBERSHIP AT ANY TIME*** - This simply is not true. I attempted to cancel my membership before my trial had ended and I was unable to. The only way to truly cancel a membership is to email them and this is not stated in their terms and conditions.
Before my trial had ended I attempted to cancel my trial through the directions above. I was told to call a number and then upon calling this number was told that they are only open Monday to Friday. However, this is only a recording and when you attempt to cancel through the recording it takes over 5 minutes and then you are told your membership is cancelled BUT you do not have a chance to provide any personal information so that they know which membership to cancel. It said your membership has now been cancelled. But I didn't give my name, student number, email, phone number - nothing!? How do you explain that Shaw Academy???
This is unjust business etiquette that is harming many unsuspecting people just wanting a fair free trial and I hope this company is investigated and their behavior is rectified and their victims repaid.
There should be an easy way to cancel your free trials. Why do you make it so much of a fuss unless you were aimed at confusing and tricking people into making payments to you when they want to cancel??
I will not email this company directly and go through any more sneaky trickery. Refund me my $69.99 CAD.

Subscribed to Shaw Academy on May 01st 2020 for Leadership and Management course
May 1st, I sent notice to ***@shawacademy.com stating that I accidentally clicked a button that caused a charge to my account for an Ecertificate and I request a refund.
Someone responded on May 01st stating that they do not do refunds and gave me an offer of a toolkit valued at $199 for free
I immediately responded rejecting the offer and further demanding my refund. I also stated that I no longer want to do a course with Shaw Academy. I also stated that the only charge they were authorized to make on my card was the monthly charges after my trial period was over and nothing else. My card information should never have been saved for purchases of things such as an Ecertificate.
Subsequent emails from me on the 4th, 6th and 7th to support went unanswered.
I then emailed ***@shawacademy.com on the 8th, copying my previous emails. That too went unanswered.
I received an email from ***@reminder.shawacademy.com on the 9th stating that I have not been attending classes. I responded to this email on the same day saying why and that I wanted a refund.
On the 10th I received an email from ***@shawacademy.com stating that if I have been charged for a toolkit or certificate and it has not been activated on my account and if I am looking for a refund, I should reply to said email with a screenshot of my payment receipt.
I did that.
On the 12th I received an email from the studentsuccess email from someone named Patrick basically restating that they cannot refund and giving me another offer of a toolkit valued at $199.
Again I rejected the offer and demanded my refund stating the trickery and deceit used to get my money.
Patrick replied stating that he reviewed the matter and there is no way for the refund to be processed. He also said that the terms and conditions were made available and having clicked on the button I completed the transaction. He even upped the value of the toolkit offer to $499.
I responded detailing how the company used trickery and deceit to get me to click on that button and how I never authorized them to use my card information for such purchases. I also stated that their refund policy is not in keeping with a 21st century company.
No one responded.
On the 15th, I completed the termination of my account with Shaw Academy. Bradley O, who handled my case on the phone said he would also send an email to the billing department copying me. He never did.
Desired Outcome
I want a refund of the 39.95 pounds that were inadvertently charged to my card.

I signed up for the 4 week free course but accidentally clicked on the paid version of a course. I wanted to cancel my subscription and get a refund.
I signed up for the free trial but no where was it mentioned that in order to access module 2 I needed to pay. I clicked on it and without any confirmation my account was charged. I requested a refund for $69.99 because I did not opt for it. The website needs to be more clear about these things like you'll be charged if you click here or have the modules locked so users know it's chargeable.
I repeatedly told them that I'm not interested so I'd appreciate if my money was refunded. I created the account on the 3rd of May and emailed them the same day. I was within the 4 week free trial. The rep did not understand my concern and blamed me for not cancelling my account within 4 weeks. Now they are offering me 12 month access but really it's not worth it.

Dear student,
Our support team has informed that as per your request, we had already enabled 12 months' access. Hence, we do not have an option to issue a refund.
I signed up to a free trial for a course however cancelled this without ever using the service.
The company still took my money and would refund.
I signed up for a free trail subscription for a 4 week beginners photography course. However after signing up I decided not to use any of the content and did not even register onto a course.
Because of this, I cancelled my membership to avoid paying a fee at a later date. This cancellation was made weeks before the free trial was over. However the company this took the money out of my account.
I had to jump through loops on the website to cancel, clicking through multiple pages to confirm cancellation. And then when it looks like you've cancelled, in small writing there is a number to ring to confirm cancellation once again.
When asking about receiving a refund my request was rejected as they said I never cancelled it, this because I never noticed that you had to call the number.
They purposely make it very confusing to cancel with intention to deceive.
After being informed I called the number to cancel which was automated, and once again made you jump through hoops to cancel.
I have sent numerous emails and never received a response and they don't have a contact number to call.
They are a business set up with the intention to scam people. After looking at reviews I can see that they are doing this to many many people.
I want a refund and I want them to be held accountable, they shouldn't be able to get away with this.
Desired Outcome
I would like to receive a refund and for the company to be held accountable for the clearly purposely deceiving customers and stealing money out of their accounts. They're scam artists.

Dear Student,

I was charged for $39.99 for an unwanted module toolkit that was accidentally paid for using deceit.
This company is unethical and practices deception in tricking its "students" into making unauthorized purchases. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ONTO THE MODULE TOOLKITS UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO PURCHASE THEM FOR THEY ARE ONE-CLICK PAY LINKS. Also, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CANCELLATION REQUEST BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF YOUR 28-DAYS TRIAL IS OVER TO ***@SHAWACADEMY.COM. This will be proof that you attempted to cancel before the trial is over because they will not give you your money back.
The module toolkits are set-up as a one-click process with no way of knowing what you are going to be purchasing and once you click it, they will charge you. That was the mistake I did. I thought that by clicking onto the link (which is standard online practice), I can see a description of what I was purchasing before purchasing it but instead, it purchased the module toolkit.I emailed them and explained that it was by accident and that I wanted to see what I was purchasing before purchasing it and to have them refund me my $39.99. They respond with saying that they couldn't refund my money and instead would give me free module kits, certificate of completion and a diploma valued at $199. I don't want nor need from them and I stopped attending all classes at this point.
4-weeks is just that 28 days and not 30 days, so please cancel before then. I made the mistake of canceling on the day 30 instead of day 28 and was made clear of that. Please read the contract of the "free trial" and protect yourself.
This company has no ethics in helping their "students". This company will do everything to they can to swindle people out of their hard-earned money. I would never recommended this academy to anyone and quite the opposite. I want to inform people about this company as well.
Desired Outcome
I would like $39.99 returned to my account for the module toolkit. They can clearly see on their end that it was never downloaded from their site and used.

The app/website is not letting me cancel my account subscription and I only have one day left in my free trial.
I signed up with Shaw Academy for a graphic design course. Still within the time of my free trial with about four days left, and no longer happy with the course and the Academy in general, I decided to cancel my subscription and account using the app. I was told that I then needed to call the country number that was provided and give them a reference number in order to confirm my account cancellation. Following those instructions, I was answered by an automated voice answering program that proceeded to tell me to confirm my account cancellation by "pressing any key" on my phone. I was not asked for any account information or even for the reference number that I was given by Shaw Academy in order to go through with this process. Sceptical of this, I emailed Shaw Academy's customer service emails explaining the situation, that I simply wanted to cancel my account and that I wasn't sure if it had actually happened and if they could please check. I was then responded to with an email saying that Shaw Academy apologizes if I had been charged for my card validation, which was not even what I was emailing about in the first place. Checking the website again this morning and my account is still active and when I try to cancel it, it leads me to the same process! I need to cancel my subscription and account ASAP before Shaw Academy starts charging my account for a Premium subscription that I don't need.
Desired Outcome
I'm seeking that my account be cancelled permanently ASAP and that if I am charged once my free trial ends that I be fully reimbursed for my charges as I have tried to cancel my account twice now and it has not worked on Shaw Academy's behalf.

I was charged after 1 click on a pop-up "get the toolkit" banner with no description, and refused a refund after reporting mistake the next minute
I subscribed for a 4 weeks of free trial course and was taking quiz sent to me after the first lesson. Then I was prompted to a pop-up banner advertising "get the toolkit" and intuitively clicked on it to see what was offered in that kit. And that turned to be a one click payment of $39.95 with no prior explanation and which I never authorized. I wasn't even given an option to see what I was buying and that I was actually making a purchase. And I never gave a permission for a "one click payment" options. I did found it was a purchase only after scrolling way down the page and receiving a notification from PayPal. I'm attaching the screenshot with all the charge details. It was made on May 14, 2020 at 1:27 AM EDT and I started to look for a cancellation option the very second after realized that I was charged. I never even opened the information being afraid of getting any additional charges. I wrote an e-mail explaining the issue to the seller at 01:35 AM EDT once found its contact. On May 15 I received a reply saying I would not be refunded and was offered some other services for a cost of $199 which sounded like a joke to me. At the time when everyone is facing extreme hardship due to COVID-19 I'm just feeling fooled and down since $39.95 is an amount I could buy 3 days food supply for my children.
Desired Outcome
I'm seeking a refund for the "purchase" which I wasn't given an option to see first.

The refund was received. I greatly appreciate the assistance of Revdex.com.
I would like the company to honor its word and cancel my membership as well as providing me with a full refund.
Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.
We see that you had not canceled your subscription before its renewal; hence, you were charged. Since the service was made available to you, the refund was not approved.
You can also contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for any assistance.
Thank you
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Dear Student,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Your refund has been processed as per your request

- 05/09/202 - I accidentally clicked to a some button and was immediately (without any confirmation) charged another 39$ for "E Certificate for Professional Diploma in Photography Module 1." ("Invoice # XXXXXXX Invoice Date May 09, 2020 Invoice Amount $39.95 (USD) )

- 05/12/2020 - cancelled and deleted account because have not resolved the issue with refund via support.
Hi ***, Thank you for reaching out again. Kind regards, Patrick

They have a duty of care to disabled people their courses or terms or business policies and practices do not allow for.
Dear student,
We had processed your refund as per your request. It will be with you in max 7 days and most likely sooner.

I am seeking a refund for the amount of £39.95 and an apology.

I signed up for the free 30 day trial and cancelled days before it was up. They still charged my credit card.
I signed up for the free 30 day trial and cancelled it 4 days before it was due to end, and they still charged my credit card. They make it a lengthy process to cancel your membership, making you click through multiple screens online and then make you call a phone number at the end that's only available with certain hours.
I want my money refunded to my credit card or the charge to my credit card cancelled.

I want my money refunded because I cancelled the subscription prior to when the free trial period ended. So I do not think I should be charged at all. They charged me already which I think was incorrect. It's unfair practice.

They charged me unfairly and are not returning the money. I have no interest in the product. It is schedule based and not as advertised.
My account was unfairly charged. I would like it refunded and cancelled for the future asap. I am not interested in any free subscriptions. I know I cancelled my account within the first week and am shocked to see a charge. I never used the service and am not interested in using it.
There are multiple complaints about this company on the Revdex.com, reddit, and google forums. Especially considering the time of covid-19, this expense is a complete waste and scam.
They offered me a 6 month free package but as mentioned earlier, the product is not as advertised and I have zero interest in supporting a company like this. I quit as soon as I signed up.

Charged despite cancelling free trial.
I cancelled my subscription during the free trial but was charged anyways. I contacted Shaw and the only response I got was that they couldn't find an account with my email address. If you can't find my account, then how was I charged!?
I would like the $69.99 I was charged to be refunded.

Charged my account $69.99 never took any classes.
I got an ad on T-Mobile Tuesdays application. Shaw Academy was offering free classes for one month. The class immediately charge for tools, etc. You cannot take the class without paying. I emailed to cancel the class the following day. Yet they charged my credit card $69.99. I have emailed them but they only send form letters. There is no phone number listed to reach them. Requested a refund from this farce of a school. It is a scam.
Full refund and stop sending me an email for a certificate for a program I did not take.

Accidentally clicked on an item on the user page which was immediately charged to my card. Shortly after I submitted a request for a refund. Not given
Subscribed to Shaw Academy on May 01st 2020 for Leadership and Management course
I want a refund of the 39.95 pounds that were inadvertently charged to my card.
Dear Student,
Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

I want my money back.
Dear student,
Our support team has informed that as per your request, we had already enabled 12 months' access. Hence, we do not have an option to issue a refund.
Thank you
I signed up to a free trial for a course however cancelled this without ever using the service.
I would like to receive a refund and for the company to be held accountable for the clearly purposely deceiving customers and stealing money out of their accounts. They're scam artists.
Dear Student,
Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

I would like $39.99 returned to my account for the module toolkit. They can clearly see on their end that it was never downloaded from their site and used.
Dear Student,
Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Scam school and app is set up to automatically charge you if you click anything.
I signed up for a free trial. While getting familiar with the app I was scrolling and accidentally clicked on the "purchase certificate" link while scrolling. I assumed it was ask me to confirm but it automatically charges you. I had to click to cancel my trial through about 10 screens which at the end made you call a number anyways. The customer service agent I spoke to said she cancelled my trial after trying to offer me a bunch of freebies. She also said she would contact billing on my behalf and have my $40 refunded. When it was not refunded I emailed billing who refuse to refund it and just keep trying to offer me more "freebies." This "academy" is just a scam.
A simple refund of $40.

Meets my request for resolution.
I signed up for the free 4 week course. They charged my card and won't refund me my money.
I signed up for the free 4 week course you had to enter you card info to do the classes but said you can cancel. So I sent a email to cancel but to just do the free 4 weeks. They said it was calle cancelled but I could still do the free 4 weeks. I did that now I have a charge on my account for$69.99 that they will not refund. They give you false information and are still trying to get me to sign up for classes. I just want my refund for what I shouldn't had to pay for and for them to never charge my card again. They are a scam getting people for their money.
If its anyway to help me get a refund

I'm seeking that my account be cancelled permanently ASAP and that if I am charged once my free trial ends that I be fully reimbursed for my charges as I have tried to cancel my account twice now and it has not worked on Shaw Academy's behalf.
Dear Student,
As per your request we had cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

Despite an employee saying they had cancelled my membership and I would not be charged, I was in fact still charged and want that money back.
On the 8th of May (2 days before my membership was due to renew) I emailed asking for my membership to be cancelled. On 9th of May, an employee called 'Parker' emailed back to confirm that my membership had been cancelled and I would not be charged. THEN on the 12th of May I see that they have charged my bank account £69.99 anyway, even thought the membership is cancelled. This is disgusting. I want the money back immediately.
My student number is: XXXXX.
I want a refund immediately and assurances that i will not be charged again next month.

I'm seeking a refund for the "purchase" which I wasn't given an option to see first.
