Despite an employee saying they had cancelled my membership and I would not be charged, I was in fact still charged and want that money back.
On the 8th of May (2 days before my membership was due to renew) I emailed asking for my membership to be cancelled. On 9th of May, an employee called 'Parker' emailed back to confirm that my membership had been cancelled and I would not be charged. THEN on the 12th of May I see that they have charged my bank account £69.99 anyway, even thought the membership is cancelled. This is disgusting. I want the money back immediately.

My student number is: XXXXX.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund immediately and assurances that i will not be charged again next month.

Shaw Academy

The app/website is not letting me cancel my account subscription and I only have one day left in my free trial.
I signed up with Shaw Academy for a graphic design course. Still within the time of my free trial with about four days left, and no longer happy with the course and the Academy in general, I decided to cancel my subscription and account using the app. I was told that I then needed to call the country number that was provided and give them a reference number in order to confirm my account cancellation. Following those instructions, I was answered by an automated voice answering program that proceeded to tell me to confirm my account cancellation by "pressing any key" on my phone. I was not asked for any account information or even for the reference number that I was given by Shaw Academy in order to go through with this process. Sceptical of this, I emailed Shaw Academy's customer service emails explaining the situation, that I simply wanted to cancel my account and that I wasn't sure if it had actually happened and if they could please check. I was then responded to with an email saying that Shaw Academy apologizes if I had been charged for my card validation, which was not even what I was emailing about in the first place. Checking the website again this morning and my account is still active and when I try to cancel it, it leads me to the same process! I need to cancel my subscription and account ASAP before Shaw Academy starts charging my account for a Premium subscription that I don't need.

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking that my account be cancelled permanently ASAP and that if I am charged once my free trial ends that I be fully reimbursed for my charges as I have tried to cancel my account twice now and it has not worked on Shaw Academy's behalf.

I enrolled in a 4 week free trial course. I canceled after the first class. They still took money out of my account. I have proof of cancellation.

The first class started at April 14th at 2:00 and I canceled at 2:13. I have proof of text message after I cancelled the subscription if I wanted to restart this free trial. To opt out it told me to reply STOP and that's what I did.

Shaw Academy took $69.99 out of my PayPal account yesterday. May 14th.

Desired Outcome

A refund and a more proof of cancellation.

I signed up for the free 4 week course. They charged my card and won't refund me my money.
I signed up for the free 4 week course you had to enter you card info to do the classes but said you can cancel. So I sent a email to cancel but to just do the free 4 weeks. They said it was calle cancelled but I could still do the free 4 weeks. I did that now I have a charge on my account for$69.99 that they will not refund. They give you false information and are still trying to get me to sign up for classes. I just want my refund for what I shouldn't had to pay for and for them to never charge my card again. They are a scam getting people for their money.

Desired Outcome

If its anyway to help me get a refund

Scam school and app is set up to automatically charge you if you click anything.
I signed up for a free trial. While getting familiar with the app I was scrolling and accidentally clicked on the "purchase certificate" link while scrolling. I assumed it was ask me to confirm but it automatically charges you. I had to click to cancel my trial through about 10 screens which at the end made you call a number anyways. The customer service agent I spoke to said she cancelled my trial after trying to offer me a bunch of freebies. She also said she would contact billing on my behalf and have my $40 refunded. When it was not refunded I emailed billing who refuse to refund it and just keep trying to offer me more "freebies." This "academy" is just a scam.

Desired Outcome

A simple refund of $40.

Meets my request for resolution.

I was charged for $39.99 for an unwanted module toolkit that was accidentally paid for using deceit.
This company is unethical and practices deception in tricking its "students" into making unauthorized purchases. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ONTO THE MODULE TOOLKITS UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO PURCHASE THEM FOR THEY ARE ONE-CLICK PAY LINKS. Also, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CANCELLATION REQUEST BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF YOUR 28-DAYS TRIAL IS OVER TO ***@SHAWACADEMY.COM. This will be proof that you attempted to cancel before the trial is over because they will not give you your money back.

The module toolkits are set-up as a one-click process with no way of knowing what you are going to be purchasing and once you click it, they will charge you. That was the mistake I did. I thought that by clicking onto the link (which is standard online practice), I can see a description of what I was purchasing before purchasing it but instead, it purchased the module toolkit.I emailed them and explained that it was by accident and that I wanted to see what I was purchasing before purchasing it and to have them refund me my $39.99. They respond with saying that they couldn't refund my money and instead would give me free module kits, certificate of completion and a diploma valued at $199. I don't want nor need from them and I stopped attending all classes at this point.

4-weeks is just that 28 days and not 30 days, so please cancel before then. I made the mistake of canceling on the day 30 instead of day 28 and was made clear of that. Please read the contract of the "free trial" and protect yourself.

This company has no ethics in helping their "students". This company will do everything to they can to swindle people out of their hard-earned money. I would never recommended this academy to anyone and quite the opposite. I want to inform people about this company as well.

Desired Outcome

I would like $39.99 returned to my account for the module toolkit. They can clearly see on their end that it was never downloaded from their site and used.

Shaw Academy Response • May 18, 2020

Dear Student,

Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you

I signed up to a free trial for a course however cancelled this without ever using the service.

The company still took my money and would refund.
I signed up for a free trail subscription for a 4 week beginners photography course. However after signing up I decided not to use any of the content and did not even register onto a course.

Because of this, I cancelled my membership to avoid paying a fee at a later date. This cancellation was made weeks before the free trial was over. However the company this took the money out of my account.

I had to jump through loops on the website to cancel, clicking through multiple pages to confirm cancellation. And then when it looks like you've cancelled, in small writing there is a number to ring to confirm cancellation once again.

When asking about receiving a refund my request was rejected as they said I never cancelled it, this because I never noticed that you had to call the number.

They purposely make it very confusing to cancel with intention to deceive.

After being informed I called the number to cancel which was automated, and once again made you jump through hoops to cancel.

I have sent numerous emails and never received a response and they don't have a contact number to call.

They are a business set up with the intention to scam people. After looking at reviews I can see that they are doing this to many many people.

I want a refund and I want them to be held accountable, they shouldn't be able to get away with this.

Desired Outcome

I would like to receive a refund and for the company to be held accountable for the clearly purposely deceiving customers and stealing money out of their accounts. They're scam artists.

Shaw Academy Response • May 18, 2020

Dear Student,

Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you

It's a scam. They claim to have 4 week trial but they take your money right when you sign up.
This company is a scam. They claim to have 4 week FREE Trial, and only charge the credit card AFTER that time.

Sadly, that is not the case. I signed up yesterday and got my Paypal deducted IMMEDIATELY.

As you can see in the attached image, there is a total value to be paid today as 0.

They didn't take 24,99. They took 49,99. Anyway they should have taken 0.

They are a disgrace and a bunch of ss, can't believe why after all the complains in this website and others, they are allowed to continue doing business.

Desired Outcome

I want the money you stole refunded.

Shaw Academy Response • May 18, 2020

Dear Student,

Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you

I was lead to believe I had canceled my subscription after I got a refund for the initial purchase but they continue to take funds from my account.
Shaw Academy is purposely misleading and deceptive in their conduct of business with consumers. They have taken so many people's money and don't offer sufficient customer service to resolve any issues. They participate in shaming and guilt-tripping of costumers that want to cancel. They take payments after you have canceled.

They stated that they do not offer refunds at all- ever...

I signed up for Shaw Academy to see what it was. They explained that to access a free trial I had to pay £0.30p to access the account. I did so and quickly changed my mind. (3rd of April 2020)

I messaged them that I did not want their services and got an initial refund of £0.30p (so we know now- they actually do refunds.) To be clear: they stopped communication after my refund for their services. My ties to them were severed. It should put me in a pre-contractual position.

They still continue taking funds out of my account. 1st of May they took another £50. They refuse to give refunds.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund.

Attempting to cancel account.
I registered with Shaw Academy today and they attempted to debit my account. I got suspicious as they offered a 4 week free trial and I looked online for reviews only to find they have done this before. I attempted to cancel my account and it just gives me a number to call to confirm and the number does not go through. I want this account canceled today as they have shown to be unreliable.

Desired Outcome

Cancelation of account and no future debits from my account

Shaw Academy Response • May 18, 2020

Dear Student,

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

Thank you

Charged too soon a membership fee of $70 for a free trial I did not use.
SAVE YOURSELF - DON'T SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING! I signed up on April 14th for Shaw Academy's free trial of their Nutrition course. Upon doing so, I was not sent an email or communicated as to which date I would be charged for the membership. I read through much of their fine print which I believe is purposely worded in a very slimy way to confuse those seeking a trial education course. They have a section talking about pausing membership which says if you're 15 days into your trial and you pause it, when you resume, you will then be able to use up the remaining 15 days. 15 + 15 = 30 (I have screenshots of this if they try to change it upon reading this). Also, they have wording that implies the free trial begins when you start your first course. Even though my account was created on the 14th, I didn't use any of their services until that Friday, April 17th when the first course began. Just to make sure I gave myself leeway, I set on my calendar to cancel the trial before a month had passed, even before the 28 days were up. When I went to cancel, they had already charged me $70.00.

They make sure it's about impossible to contact them as they only provide an email address and refuse to give a number to speak to anyone directly. I explained to them that the charge should not have gone through until the next day at the very earliest and told them I did not use their services after the first day of the course because it was nothing like what I thought it would be and I was not interested. I normally would've cancelled right after realizing it wasn't anything I wanted to invest in, but I was preoccupied with job searching and caring for family as I've been out of work for 5 weeks during the COVID quarantine. I told them explicitly I do not have $70 to spend on courses I'm not going to use or really on anything extra as I need to pay rent and buy groceries. Rather than having any kind of personal response, they copied and pasted the same response they gave to someone else who complained here on the Revdex.com website. They refused to refund me and instead gave me 6 months of membership in exchange for the inappropriate charge. This is after I told them I wasn't interested in their courses - their response was to give me 6 months of courses I don't want instead of giving me back my money I need now at this time.

I now have had to open a dispute for the charge with my bank and it's definitely not their responsibility. I doubt Shaw Academy will say anything truthful or helpful in the investigation so I do not expect to be refunded by the bank as it shouldn't be on their shoulders anyway. I DO however expect Shaw Academy to be the slightest bit understanding in this matter ESPECIALLY during this time by taking responsibility and making this right. I will until then be making it known the money they've wrongfully taken from hundreds of people in countless situations on every platform available to me. I just wish I had looked them up on the Revdex.com before ever signing up for a free trial. I've had lots of bad experiences with businesses but this is the first time I've felt it necessary to make a Revdex.com complaint and I fully stand behind it.

Desired Outcome

To resolve this matter, I am seeking to be refunded the $69.99 charged to my card on Tuesday, May 12th.

Thank you for finally cooperating and making this matter right. I do wish my initial emails were regarded as important and responded to in an effective manner so I did it have to escalate it to this level. I sincerely hope Shaw Academy better represents itself in resolving similar matters for future "students".

Shaw Academy wrongfully charged me after I already canceled my trial membership prior to renewal date.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy on 4/15/20. I set up a reminder to cancel because I was not satisfied with their course quality as the first week progressed. On 5/11/20, 2 days prior to my membership renewal date, I canceled my free trial membership. I was asked through 3 separate landing pages if I was sure I wanted to cancel. Finally, I received a confirmation that my membership was canceled.

However on 5/14/20 I am seeing a pending charge for a month of membership for $69.99.

I think it goes without saying that this is extremely unprofessional of this company. I can't believe they would allow for this negligence during a time when people are hurting financially in this corona virus crisis.

Desired Outcome

They can resolve my complaint by refunding the full $69.99 and ensuring my membership is truly canceled.

Shaw academy fully refunded me based on my complaint. It's good to see they were responsive and solved this issue.

SA's customer service is repulsive. They haven't emailed me back about refunding me for an accidental charge & I cannot get in touch by phone.
Shaw Academy requires you to give them your credit card information for a free trial of their services - this was okay for me as this is a common practice for businesses.

What's not okay: they are not clear and forthcoming with purchases that you are making on their website and their customer service is not helpful or responsive.

When logging into my account on the Shaw Academy website, there is a section on the user Dashboard that says "Course Materials". Underneath this section there is a button that says "Module eCertificate", and in extremely small font it says "one click purchase". I clicked "Module eCertificate" without seeing the words "one click purchase".

My intention was to find out what the eCertificate was, and how it was a "Course Material". When I clicked, Shaw Academy automatically charged my debit card $39.95 USD. They did not email me a receipt or confirmation of purchase, I had to go find my own receipt on a small section of their website.

What's not okay: I emailed Shaw Academy asking for a refund and they never emailed me back. I attempted to call, but there is no phone number clearly listed to speak to a human representative - so I was never able to get in touch with anyone.

This is unacceptable service and most definitely not an "above reproach" business. Shaw Academy should not be allowed to operate this way. They are using free trials and "one click purchase" tricks to take people's money.

Desired Outcome

I request a resolution of a full refund to my debit card.

I was refunded, but only after reporting to Revdex.com.

Shaw academy has offered me future Course Materials (Toolkits) for free in order to solve a dispute. The material was never delivered.
I have mistakenly acquired a toolkit for a Photography course in Shaw academy. The website is full of "click baits" with one-click purchases. I opened a complaint right away, and Shaw Academy, instead of canceling my order, has offered me the Course Materials (Toolkits) of the next modules for free. I have accepted the offer and extended my subscription to complete the next modules. However, the offered Toolkits were never available for Download. I have contact Shaw Academy support several times about this issue. On the few times they have answered me, they informed me the material was now available and closed the complaint ticket (some ticket numbers #XXXXXXX, #XXXXXXX). However, the material is still not available. On my Profile page there is a message saying "Toolkit available for Download", however the material is not available in the Resources page inside of the course modules.

Desired Outcome

I would like to have access to the Material as soon as possible. If not possible I want a refund of my subscriptions. The lack of course material is hindering my learning on advanced modules.

Charged for a free trial having been assured I would receive a reminder email 3 days before I was charged, received no such email and was charged £50
I signed up to Shaw Academy fully intending to utilise the course materials, being on lockdown and having some free time. However, being NHS employed (research based, not front line) due to the current climate, was redeployed to deliver PPE to those in need after having signed up. As, when I signed up, I was assured I would be prompted 3 days before I was due to be charged the £49.99 fee.
I did not receive an email from Shaw as a promised reminder, and having all of my pre-assumed free time taken up by key work, naturally I forgot and was charged £49.99.
Had I received the email, I wouldn't be pursuing this, I would be annoyed at myself and I'd move on, however I feel like I was misled and the company representative I've been dealing with hasn't been able to give me an answer as to why I never got this email.

To add insult to injury, the cancellation procedure was distasteful and long, an automated voice telling me not to give up.... basically like a disappointed parent that I just gave £50 to.

Extremely disappointing.

Desired Outcome

I would appreciate a full refund as well as a review of the values you convey to your staff - Reha has never met me and I would argue actually does not care about whether or not I give up on my goals and I really didn't need that in the email

Misleading advertising, untruthful service cost, major hurdles to cancellation/refund
Online advertisement on Facebook says that it's free to take their courses for four weeks. What it doesn't say is it's just a preamble of a course, and there's no chance of completing the course if you don't pay. It's misleading advertising for what services offered for what cost.

Then when you realize it's a scam, and you go to counsel and make sure your credit card information is deleted they Make you skip through 10 pages, and the cancellation button is hidden and small, then it brings you to a page that makes you call them. When you call them no one answers and the voicemail says no one is available take your call.

Desired Outcome

I want my credit card deleted from your database and I want my account cancelled And subscription deleted

Shaw Academy Response • May 18, 2020

Dear Student,

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

Thank you

Click-bait on the Shaw Academy website charged me £39.99 for a toolkit which it said was free.
A toolkit was advertised as being free during the 30 day trial and so I clicked the 'Get Toolkit' button which was actually not free and was a one click purchase button.

The also advertised that cancellation is easy and online during the free trial.

This is untrue. Cancellation is difficult and over the phone. They never answer the phone and when they do, they instantly hang up and call you back from a US number which would charge me a fortune to answer.

Click-bait scam company.

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund of the £39.99 and compensation in the form of paying my unarranged overdraft charge for the day to the cost of £0.89 pence.

I signed up for a course to take. Never took the course and they charged me because I didn't cancel in time. Took another course canceled before
Weeks before after only taking 2 classes. I saw that there we hundreds of comments saying that it was a scam, so I canceled my entire account 3 weeks before the date I was suppose to cancel and they still charged me 3 weeks later. I contacted them and either time they did not want to give me a refund. I shouldn't have to be scammed just because I want to leaner more. This is insane. How do you move forward from here to get my refund, I'm not working roght now because of COVID-19and I really need those funds back into my account
They have charged a total of $120.00 for my account.

Desired Outcome

I am looking to be honored my refund of $120.00 and continue on with my canceled subscription

This company is a complete scam!

I join a course and within two days of joining decided that I wanted to cancel the free trial. I called and could not get ahold of anyone so I emailed them to request the cancellation.

Their support team responded to my request saying that my account was cancelled on 4/15/2020

" Your membership with Shaw Academy has now been cancelled. It will be reflected within 24 hours in your account."

They even stated that two months of free access would be added to my account too so that I could still attend the courses I had originally signed up for.

However it is now one month later and they just debited my account for $69.99! I emailed them again and they say that I DID NOT cancel my account and that they are unable to refund me...

SCAM SCAM SCAM!

Sad to see companies like this take money from individuals especially in a global pandemic when many people are struggling financially!

I subscribed to a 30 day free trial and went to cancel it today (day 29) and they had already charged me a premium subscription fee.
I started a free subscription with Shaw on April 15th, and asked them for an email reminder when that subscription was up. Yesterday (may 12th) it said I had three days left, but today (may 13th) I went on to cancel it and they had already charged me for a premium membership. Never got an email. Today is day 29 of 30, I should not have been charged. I was charged $69.99 to my debit card.

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund.

I was clearly not planning on resubscribing as I did not view all the class material. I have also not viewed any of the material that they charged me for. I caught the charge the day it happened before it was even processed and they refused a refund. I had misunderstood and thought it was a 30 day trial. However, they had promised a reminder email letting me know before my trial was up and I never got it. I check my email every day and I had it been sent I would've realized I was wrong About the trial length and unsubscribed before being charged. I messaged them a few times about this and got no answers until someone finally Emailed me saying it was sent three days before my trial ended. This is absolutely not true. I have every email they've ever sent me and a reminder email was definitely never sent to me. I still think all things considered, I should be refunded.
