Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

late payment and they closed my acctCSR's couldn't give me any information why I HAD several store cards thru synchrony, paid them off and closed them all after yrs with no issues (when they were GE had these accts) SYNCHRONY WILL JACK YOUR CREDIT SCORE IN A MINUTE! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

I have a store credit card and I called the bank to ask if they can postpone my payment for days due to negative balance in my accountThey simply told me no because they don't do thatI understand the reasoning behind itHowever, if you want to have happy customers you need to work with them tooI will not do business with Synchrony Bank

I have used GE Capitol Retail Bank for consumer financial accounts for several yearsMy experience has always been very positiveSeveral of my credit card accounts are funded and managed by GECRB and have been great to work with

I had an account with GE which changed to SynchronyI had never missed a payment and paid my balance in full each time I used my cardAfter a year and a half my account was closed because my credit did not meet their requirementsNOTHING HAD CHANGED IN MY CREDIT REPORTIn fact, my score was better when my account was closed than when it was openedBad businessWhen I called, they could not tell me why my account had been closedI will not work with Synchrony any more

THis is one of the worst banks to do business with I made a payment less then hrs late I went on line & did the live chat , what a joke, these people think we are a bunch of mns ( we are for dealing with them) I was able to get the late fee taken off, but it does not lower your monthly payment as they said they cant change in middle of billing cycle but the credit is already showing ( in middle of cyle) figure this out - but it wont be subtracted from the payment due? when this account is paid , I will never do business with this bank again,

I have had an account with Amazon for approximately mos and had paid it off months agoI had an account with JCPenny and paid it off about months ago Also had an American Eagle account and paid it off Since that time; about months Synchrony has closed all three of those accounts None of these accounts had ever been seriously past due They sent letters saying that my accounts were reviewed and as a result a decision was made to close the account citing one of the reasons my credit score was low as "number of inquiries was a factor in determining score." Well I haven't tried to open an account or get a loan, so they are the reason I had inquiries on my credit

[redacted] Card: The rewards on this card are fantastic - unfortunately, I have received numerous fraudulent charges with absolutely horrible customer service These are small amounts, in total over the last months there have been $1,000+ in charges from the SAME fraud perpetrator I tried three times to report the first set of charges: 1) Rep didn't report it to the fraud department, 2) Rep sent it to the fraud department but didn't take the charges off of my card AND the fraud department forgot to start the investigation and 3) FINALLY, a rep took the charges off and got the investigation going This is FIVE MONTHS LATER! A couple of weeks after the investigation another $500+ charge was made by the same people - I assume if this had been reported properly it wouldn't have happened They have sent me new cards and I haven't even activated the most recent card yet Still no results I called about this new charge twice, still no report to the fraud department and the charges are still sitting on my card Can't close this card fast enoughNote: This would not be specific to [redacted] - this is a Synchrony Bank card so I would be careful with any of their programs

I purchased furniture at Ashley Furniture in Quakertown, PA in November 2016.The salesperson explained that the Promotional Terms I was signing up for was No Interest and No Payments for months As long as the account was paid in full in the twelve month period there would be no interestI received a statement from Synchrony Bank in the mail todayThe statement is demanding a payment by December 16, or there will be a late fee and an interest charge applied to the accountI called customer service and of course had to speak to someone in a foreign country They of course could not help meI asked to speak to a supervisorAfter minutes of being on hold (they thought I would hang up) a woman named Olivia picked up the callI explained to Olivia how the representative explained the terms of the agreement to me at signing That I was getting months no interest and no payments as long as the balance was paid in one yearOlivia then began to say how sorry she was that I was misleadOlivia refused to amend the agreementBecause I called Synchrony Olivia's supervisor would not accept my call and that I would be put on a call back list Calls are usually returned within hoursSo I can expect a call around the hour markI found that the terms as explained to me are not the same has what Synchrony claims I closed my account and will no longer do any business with SynchronyVery dissatisfied

Issue up front: there is no grace period on payment dateIf the US mail system gets it there a day late you get a late fee charge - expensive one at that - appears to me to be the way they do in fact collect $s vice interest on their loanMy lack of analyzing the monthly bill I failed to notice their disclaimer of no grace periodI got one of those yearlong interest free credit offers to buy a sleep numbers bedThe bank that made that offer was GE Capital Somewhere along the line it ended up with Synchrony Bank I admit I did not pay close enough attention to the billing as the South Dakota case manager lady very smugly pointed out Case manager was very comfortable with the fine print under their due date notice of late fee up to $- makes me wonder why they are charging me $given I am sending them far more each month than the minimum payment I did not end the conversation convinced that the mail gets checked each and every day and if it lays in someone's inbox for a day - bingo - customer gets the late fee

The customer service was inept with this bankI had tried to figure available credit before Christmas and after 5-lengthy phone call was still unable to make heads or tails and the bank kept referring me back to the store, which has nothing to do with available credit

Telephone harassment

I had financed a mattress on a 0% interest promotion from GE Capital in The promo ended on Sep Due to the name change from GE Capital to Synchrony Bank the monthly e-mail statements were going into my spam folder and I missed the ending of the promo and was hit with a substantial deferred interest chargeSpoke to Josh at Synchrony Bank and explained the situation to him, and the fact that I had made every payment on time, and he was able to waive the deferred interest chargeI really appreciate the fact that they were willing to look at my situation and remedy it when they could have insisted on the paymentTHANKS SYNCHRONY!

I would not recommend any cards through this bankThis bank closes and lowers account limits when you decide to pay them down or off In an attempt to improve my credit and purchase a home, I began paying off and paying down credit card balancesI owned an American Eagle card through this bank and made all payments on timeOnce I paid off the balance, I received a notice in the mail that my account had been closed due to my credit informationWell, I have been loyal and faithful with payments on my accounts, so why close them based on other credit informationAlso, I own an Amazon and Walmart card, which unfortunately this bank holdsI payed down my balance on my Amazon card as recommended by my lender to raise my scoreWell, they lowered my limit on the cardSo now, my credit report will show I am at the limit again I have made all my payments on time and how can one improve their credit, which is being used against you by this bank, if they use these kind of practicesI guess I will just sit and wait for them to continue to hurt my attempts to improve my credit to purchase a home as I pay down all accounts owned by them and they close them

Please make sure that you understand how payments are being allocated to a Lowes Consumer Credit Card I have a promotional balance that is to be paid in full in months I also have promotional balances that if paid in full by the end of the months will accrue no interest I have been paying in well in excess of the minumim payment due on the month balance, believing that the month payment was a fixed payment to be paid in full at the end of months Any payment above that minimum payment would be allocated to the other promotional balances That is not the case Most, if not all of the monthly payment was applied to the month balance leaving the month at 0% interest unpaid Synchrony applied my payment each month to a balance that had an interest rate of 5.9% and applied a nominal amount to the balance that if not paid in full by a certain time would charge 24.9% interest and add the accurred interest into the balance This sounds quite confusing and it is....just beware...make sure you know how each months payment is being applied! A fixed rate and payment is NOT how Synchrony works

Problem opening account I went through the online account application entering far more personal information than other online banks require The application failed and I was told to call the bank I called and they asked me more personal information but still could not open the accountThey promised to call me back, but they have not called for the past seven days I went back online and opened an account with AMEX savings That opened immediately as did another with ALLY bank Don't waste your time with Synchrony bank

I just found out today that there are charges on my account for Security Card Protection for the last monthsI did not authorize nor applied for this protectionI called the number on my statement and complainedThe nice lady on the phone told me that the protection is optionalSo if it's optional then why are they charging me for something that I did not authorize? She went ahead and cancel the Security Card Protection and told me that I will get credited for the charges I guess this should be a lesson for me to check my statement ALL THE TIMECheck for charges because this company can be sneaky and just add charges to your account without your knowledgeSo beware! --- Always check your statement

Worst customer support everAdditionally, the bank's algorithm to determine creditworthiness seems to be badly brokenI got an email from Syncrony Bank informing me that my credit line on my Sam's Club MasterCard was being lowered from $to $This was curious to me, as I don't have a MasterCard, I have a DiscoverWas I ever in for a surpriseI made my last purchase in August, for about $at Sam'sForgot all about itNo problem though, I get bills electronicallyChecked my account in early SeptemberBalance due $Still goodAt the end of September, I got an ominous looking letter from Syncrony Bank regarding my MastercardStrange, since I don't have oneApparently, GE Capital spun off Syncrony (clearly their less-desirable component)I panicked, thinking there was an identify theft event afootWhat I found was a note telling me that my credit line had been reduced as aboveThe reasons were: â Number of times the account balance was paid in full over the last months was too lowâ ; â Low ratio of payment to current balance over the last months for this accountâ ; â Low ratio of payments to balance over the last months for this accountâ ; â This account was past due at last billingâ My balance was paid in full (in months where I had a balance) for at least consecutive YEARSAugust was the first month in the last months where I even HAD a balanceâ And I never received a bill for my Discover cardI have never received or activated the MasterCard I never requestedThe key here is notificationThe bank is required to notify me of material changes to my accountA sane person would have to think switching cards from Discover (which I only had one of) to MasterCard (which I have enough of that I donâ t need another) would qualifyWhen I went to www.samsclubdiscover.com (yes, itâ s still called that), I saw the reduced balance, and the late payment (for $charge against a $balance for heavenâ s sake!), I called the number on my letter immediatelyI explained to the first person I talked to that I was upset about the loss of credit (this has great potential to hurt my credit score)Of course, although pleasant, he know virtually nothingHe agreed with me and removed the late charge, but said he couldnâ t do anything about the credit line reductionHe transferred me to an account manager named *** [redacted] was terribleHe told me the decision was based upon information obtained from a credit reporting agencyI assured him he must be mistakenMy credit scores are a couple of points below He told me that if my credit improved, Syncrony would periodically review my information, and may consider raising my limit in the futureThanks for that, ***Iâ m sure Syncrony has the conversation recordedListen to the recording folks [redacted] basically called someone with an credit score a liarAfter the call, I check all three reportsThey were the same as the previous month - perfect, with no negative factorsNOT A SINGLE ONEThere was only on differenceOne company had lowered my credit line â Syncrony***â s crass assertion that â the information was obtained from credit reporting agenciesâ was patently falseThe reasons provided in the letter pertained only to Syncrony account (which I never knew I had)Iâ m insulted and embarrassed by thisBTW - on the Syncrony website, before I access my account information, Iâ m invited to â activate my MasterCardâ WHAT MASTERCARD? I NEVER RECEIVED ONE!! NOR DID I RECEIVE NOTICE THAT I WOULD EVER RECEIVE ONE! I didnâ t activate the cardI wonâ t until this is cleared upI wonâ t cancel this card thoughIâ ve had this account for or yearsRemoving it would lower my average account age, and reduce my credit scoreAs much as I despise them, Iâ ll keep itHereâ s the bad news (for them) - I wonâ t shop at Samâ s again - everNicely done, folks! Itâ s probably worth mentioning at this point that Iâ m and engineer at a company which specializes in â big dataâ and analytics of sameI donâ t owe you this, but Iâ ll do you a favorYouâ re algorithm (or whatever Frankenstein-mechanism youâ re using) is brokenIâ ll even tell you where - when you switched from Discover to MasterCard, you failed to consider the existing payment historyThat explains all the conditions you used to mistreat me, and I canâ t imagine how many othersI wish youâ d fix this, but as bad as [redacted] was, and as bad as your recent online reviews are (including those on this site), my expectations arenâ t highSyncrony can fix thisI'll share my credit reports with them if that would helpAgain, my expectations are not high

Multiple disputes since May 2015, allowed the dentist to fraudulently increase credit account line by $and then charge my account without my authorization or signature nearly $ Dentist presented fraudulent information and signature that was not mine Even though documents presented by dentist do no add up or their correspondence or charges make sense for a free consult and additional visit, they refuse to do the right thing by the consumer, allowing fraud to the consumer and my credit account

I am extremely annoyed with Synchrony Bank through PC RichardsPhone calls started about a month ago stating I was late on my paymentI was late because I couldn't access my bill on lineI informed the caller to please send me a paper copy and I'd happily update my accountI never received a paper copy, but multiple daily calls continuedWhen I answered the phone I had automated teller , I entered my zip code , it wasn't acceptedThe line would dropExtremely frustrated, this morning I waited for a person who could not deviate off his script, it was though you were talking to a robot! I also had a difficult time understanding what he was sayingI asked to speak to the manager and asked where they were calling fromThe caller said, "INDIA" that to me is CRAZY! I paid entire bill and will try my best to NEVER have any dealings with SYNCHRONY BANK again!!!!!!!

This bank closes accounts without warning Weather or not your credit is good with themI have never missed payments and paid my cards off early, yet they have closed my accounts It makes me feel like I am trash Who needs this I have concerns their closing will cause negative impact on my credit report I am closing all other retailers cards who use synchrony back and will only use cards who appreciate my business
