Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

I have an Amazon card through this financial institutionDue to some personal finance issues, I am currently months delinquent I take full responsibility for thatHowever, they called my home number tonight, December 26, and gave my husband, who is NOT on the card, information about my delinquenciesNot good! I will be contacting the attorney general of the state of Florida to file a privacy complaint

The website is horribleKeeps asking to update my profile and doesnt allow me to see my acct info Whoever designed it must go home

I will never in my life do business with Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) again They have the worst customer service, the don't follow compliance laws and their agents lack the capacity to use common sense I had a Walmart Credit Card with GE Capital Retail Bank and made payments on time until I could no longer afford to after being laid off my job I did the best I could with what I had but I will admit that I could not always make a payment After being laid off for two years and finally finding employment I took the initiative to reach out to Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) and make well on the balance that I owed It was not until after I set up my own bi-weekly payments that the account was closed due to history of delinquency On top of that in the several months that I called in to speak with their customer service not once was I told that the account was closed nor was I offered a payment plan, by their collections team (since mine was obviously not satisfactory) I did not find out the account was closed until I was almost done making payments and I noticed that my available credit still said $0, when I inquired about it a rep told me that the account was closed When I asked why I was not informed of this, of course he did not know and could not connect me with anyone who did know The only thing he could tell me was "well there is nothing we can do to reinstate your account", I kindly let him know that I don't want my account reinstated if I have to deal with this company If GE Capital is smart they will drop this company from its umbrella because they do not follow compliance regulations and are going to end up in court one day I have another account with them that is currently in good standing but I will be paying it off and closing it as well I refuse to be economically raped by any financial institution

Cautionary tale I pay my bills on timeHave done so in terms of decades, especially since automated payments and direct deposit remove me from the month to month managementWhich has worked for every kind of debtor EXCEPT Synchrony Bank So I bought a Sleep Number mattress on a 36-month 0% interest promotional offer provided by GE Capital (now Synchrony)I calculated out what that would be per month and started sending that in plus some overage "just in case"First the due date was always in flux, which I missed after the first billing cycle came through and assumed it was due at the same cycleA few months go by and they call and I'm told of my mistakeFair enough So we get the date set to the same time every monthAnd I explain to them that the minimum payments are too high because basically it would make it a 24-month 0% interest offer rather than the 36-month 0% interest that I was offeredI go up the management chain over the phone and they concede the problemSo we set up the minimum to be aligned with the 36-month timeframe A few months go by and I get calls againThe minimum payment that was negotiated was gone and it was back to the 24-month payoff rateI explain the problem again, they concede but still I owe (multiple late payments - which is part of the farce)They tell me a number to bring things current and I send that inI think I'm done Another four months go by and problems againAnyways, I've paid enough in late fees at this point that I suspect the net effect is to have had something like a 15%+ loan for the term of the 0% promotional periodAnd what I recently finally had to figure out how it was happening is that while my payments are due on the same day each month AND my bank automatically makes that payment AND while they mark the payment (via the automated customer service for Synchrony) as having been paid that day, they still assert that it was paid late (which for them would have to be after 5p EST - and my bank is on the east coast) which you would think that the system would tell you that it was received the next business day at least giving some indication of what the problem is Now they won't say what time was actually received, but then I would expect the system to say it was received the next day and not the same day But that's only a small part of the problemThe real problem is that they are tracking three different numbers in their support script when you call to resolve the issueAnd only the last HIGHEST number will actually get you out of the holeBut you have to realize to askAnd it's taken me four iterations to finally realize what's been happeningAsking "what will bring things current" has three responses and that's a trap NEVER DO BUSINESS with SYNCHRONY BANKThat promotional offer is not what you will really get I've never had any company when I called to identify what a problem is about get argumentative with me from the start of the conversationMy assumption is that that is just part of the technique of the scam years ago Bank of America pulled a stunt on rearranging payments to create a snowball one time check bouncing situation and while technically my fault for not understanding what was happening with my cash flow in my late teenage years, I vowed never to do business with BOA againAnd I haven't Synchrony Bank is on the absolute no listAnd any business that is offering promotional offers through them and I find out, will not be getting my business and zero recommendations from me My guess is that this isn't just happening to meSo once I talk to my bank about when the payment was actually made, it may be time to see about class action

Like many other reviews - I had purchased a mattress with a promotion of 0% financing The promo was not worth it - the customer service, the charges, the entire experience...use another carduse another bankuse cash Never again with this bank

I recently opened a card with Synchrony Bank, not of my choosingI had extensive dental work done and this is the installmant plan my dentist has contracted withI made my 1st payment this week and was told it was late and a late fee will be assessed I quickly corrected the rep, who conducted herself like a child, that I was given the 2nd of every month and I had a 3-day grace periodShe informed me the due date was the 1st of every month, not the 2nd as I was told, and there is no grace period I relayed all that I had been told: date, time, names, as I document everythingThis individual remained indifferentOnly after my insistence did she remove the late fee as she commented, "This is a one time courtesy"She added she would request the phone service fee of $be removed as wellI had to pay using the my phone as I learned also that this bank does not accept online payments which I was told it does Who does business like that? They only accept checks over the phoneTheir business practices are draconianThis seems very shady to me, I don't trust themAnd the paperwork they first send is a compilation of gobbly gook, aka verbal diarrehea After an hour of getting no further valid help from this it, I hung up and decided to call another timeI have no choice but to utilize this bank as I don't have the balance at the readyMy dental insurance only paid for half of the procedures I went ahead and retrieved the information to contact the Suffolk County Consumers Affairs Department if need beIf necessary, I'll go as far as the State Attorney GeneralIf something unscrupulous is going on, the appropriate agencies should be notified Thanks to all for your sound advice

Synchrony Bank is the biggest scam ever!!!...I've tried to file two dispute on two purchases I made with a merchant ( [redacted] ) both items broke within less than days and they denied my claim!..So don't even try and get your money back from these vultures!...They will just laugh! NO, BUYER PROTECTION HERE PEOPLE!Remember that when you go to make any kind of purchase with their Cards!Your item Breaks, you are SOL! Thanks Synchrony Bank, YOU SUCK!!

I made a payment on my Sam's Club Bill July and once again July My thought was the July 27th payment would be applied to August My account statement fell on July 29th Well I can handle that I am hit with a dollar late fee even when that amount paid was 1/or my total balance, even though I do not necessarily agree with it The bigger issue is I thought I was canceling another account with Sam's Club when I actually canceled this account I immediately contacted Sam's only to be transferred and kept on hold until other business away from the phone presented itself I then called back hours later at the end of my workday hoping to resolve this issue, but was told that because my account was delinquent there was no way to reinstate my account and that I would have to reapply for membership forfeiting any rewards accrued in that account The rewards totaled dollars, which would have covered any required payment on the account So now my options presented by Sam's Club/Sychrony are to pay off the balance and reapply or close my account for good Either way forfeiting rewards from an online action that was made in error It is my opinion that there is not much oversight nor any information for consumer's of consequences on the online system whether decisions were made in error or intentionally It has been a negative experience dealing with Sam's Club and with affect future interactions

terrible terrible terrible experience thank the lord it was a short onenever again!!!!!!!

New customer, on time monthly payments, made an additional payment in error1/I contacted bank of America who contacted synchrony on three way call and arranged to have the payment refunded, I was told it would take three weeks, I trusted the rep would do her job and I did not followup (silly on my behalf), I even received an email from synchrony in reference to my call on 2/4, called to check on the status of the refund on 2/and was told the request was never submitted and I would have to wait another 5-days and there is nothing else that can be done which puts me in a bind as that payment was intended for a utility bill that is now at the point of disconnect...I understand mistakes happen but no resolution is terrible customer service if the mistake was made on their behalf, I will not make any more purchases from vendors using synchrony, Customer service is important and I don't feel like they care

I have been forced to endure this bank because of my Chevron gas cardSomehow this horrible bank was able to gobble them up tooI discovered that more of my cards are also held by themAll four of my cards have had one problem after another mostly getting them paidThey have an odd billing cycle in which when you pay the amount you see it's not actually the amount you oweYou don't find out there is more owing until you are hit with interest and late chargesI called this bank this morningI have a $charge on my gas card only they can seeI charged $on the AprilThat charge is showing but I have no idea what the other charge is for as I don't see itThe voice in the unknown country had the audacity to blame my computer! It was picking and choosing what to display! Very odd woman! I do not know where this bank came from or how it managed to take over so many American credit companiesI've discovered that WalMart is amongst themClearly this bank and its history is suspect and needs to be thoroughly investigatedWith so many negative responses here alone something is just not right!

Synchrony Bank clearly boasts one of the worst if not THE WORST credit card customer service and support operations I have ever encountered Foreign call centers send you down endless gerbil-wheel-inspired "security" and "identity theft" hoops and hurdles that inconveniently and ridiculously require you to receive and return over the telephone numeric "codes" in order to reactivate your card after it gets constantly and inexplicably declined at gas pumps and cash registers or, worse, cruise ships in the middle of the ocean, simply because, as they put it, "we need to verify your identify" again and again and againas if paying them in full every month, or informing them of impending travel beforehand, or calling them ten times a week to reactivate their annoying card isn't enough What's next? E-mailed DNA samples on a weekly basis? In short, Synchrony Bank has taken what little fun was left in plastic purchasing power and turned it into a Kafka-esque nightmare of induced sweats, stress, and needless aggravation during critical transactional times, such as those involving travel, which they promote themselves at Sam's Club as specializing in when this couldn't be further from the truthMy Visa card from Chase got my JetBlue business last week after Synchrony inexplicably declined the transaction online The phonecall afterward to a guy in Calcutta turned into a veritable swamp of condescension and Alice in Wonderland twists and turns, proving yet again that Synchrony Bank is a mindless, clueless, and utterly unresponsive machine rooted firmly in the spirit of stupidity and needless aggravation They don't deserve our transactional business Funny enough, they're denying themselves this transactional business every time they decline the purchase of an airline ticket or a gas pump purchase, so this village it will eventually bury itself if it doesn't catch up to the 21st century of credit card servicing and banking And, honestly, would it kill Synchrony Bank to employ just a couple capable American citizens to answer their phones when servicing legitimate consumer concerns and complaints? I mean, Synchrony Bank was once GE Capital, and their humble origins were paid and paved for by farmers turning on the light bulbs at night to read the good book So let's honestly make America Great Again;) Let's start by hiring credit card call center PROFESSIONALS who actually understand what's required to get the job done in an American purchasing arena, including Synchrony's own Thanks, Synchrony Bank, for almost ruining my last vacationPlain and simple, you suck And badlyI gave you more than enough chances to redeem yourself, and so I'm never using your card again Life's too short for such unsavory [redacted] You make Discover Card look good again

I have an account that is currently open with these people, through Rooms-financingI'm not convinced that all that they changed was their nameI have had to call them twice in two weeks and both representatives I have spoken to have been incredibly unhelpful and rude! Once I pay off my furniture, I will be leaving this establishment and NEVER doing business with them againI don't pay the money I pay every month to be talked over and cut off and treated like I'm stupidGET SOME BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS!

I received a letter from Synchrony Bank about a credit card they say I applied for, and the applicable interest rates Since I had not applied for a credit card from Sam's Club or Synchrony, I wanted to report it to them as fraudulent The Synchrony Fraud Department representative kept stating incorrect information about the reported fraud, and I asked for a 'Supervisor' The Supervisor, who's name was BJ (just initials), tried to confirm that the credit card application was not accurate and also left me unsatisfied as to any resolution that would take place After hanging up with BJ the Supervisor, I received a phone call from the same person, BJ the Supervisor, indicating that she needed to verify my address so that the credit card being processed for me was sent to the right locationI advised her that I had just talked to her about the fraudulent credit card application She was either part of the fraud/scam activity, or, she and the initial Fraud Department representative were not very competent After researching Synchrony Bank, formerly GE Capital Retail Bank, I found that more than two-thirds of all the 'reviews' about Synchrony were negativeAnd after my interaction with them, I was compelled to alert others to this fiasco

My wife made a purchase at LensCrafters in Bradenton, Florida on 12/31/ I received the first e bill on February 7, On February 9th, I received voice mails at my home number, and a call at 8:50pm from a representative demanding payment He stated we were behind in our first payment of $ I explained we did not receive a bill, but the payment would be made the next day on line He repeatedly asked for a payment, so my wife paid it off I feel calls in one day for a debt not in collections is very excessive, Thank You, [redacted]

I cant stand Synchrony Bank! What a shame that they took over GE CapitalI was never late on a paymentBecause I get paid biweekly I always hold half, then on the next pay I take the other half and make the paymentBut this ONE time I said to myself instead of holding the money I will pay what I have then the next check pay the second halfWell they didn't apply the money to my payment due and instead I ended up having to not only pay the whole amount when the due date came I had to pay a late fee that wasnt late and an overlimit feeThey really screwed me upI am seriously thinking about filing a complaintI called and they stated that they had applied that half payment to my first billing cycleWhy would they do that when my first billing cycle was paid in fullHeadaches alreadyI do not recommend this bank and I cannot wait to get out of the debt that I owe them!

I opened an account at the request of a merchant in Hawaii with Synchrony Bank in January of This was in order to receive a % discount on a purchase I received a credit card in the mail, which I cancelled I also asked at that time for a bill or an invoice from them As of todays date, February 18, 2015, I have received nothing in the mail What has happened is a series of computer telephone calls requesting payment Don't these people send out invoices or statements? Have been on hold with them now in an attempt to speak with a person for more than one hour They do NOT seem to understand the concept of customer service [redacted] Durham, N.C

I went from a flawless record with them and due to my bank card being defrauded and missing payment they cancelled my cards after years of excellent payment history! I was treated like I was trying to swindle them out of the $I owed- even though I have credit score Synchrony is the worst establishment I have ever dealt with After then closing my card, even though they reinstated it, I told them I refuse to do business with a bank that treats customers like they have treated me! Guess what, now due to closing my account they instantly turned me into a credit collector after this missed payment They are a joke and I will let that sit on my credit score and they can eat it! Save yourself the hassle and forget about using this institution!

I had two accounts through Synchrony Bank - one was Care Credit (for dental), another through TORO (that we took out when we needed a new lawn mower I have perfect credit! Over fico score I received a phone call this morning at 7:AM!!!! Trying to tell me that I did not make a payment #- I cancelled my care credit account after I paid it off! Apparently, they did not cancel out my informatioin I made my payment on the Toro account (in fact VERY early) They call me this morning to tell me I am days past due on my account!! I could not get a person that spoke ENGLISH on the phone - to find out that Synchrony Bank outsources to INDIA!! We have Thousands of people unemployed in our own country and they send our jobs to INDIA???? Really?? My perfect credit now has a day late on it b/c these mns applied my payment to the wrong Account!!! Needless to say, one I got a manager on the phone - they basically told me (not in so many words, tough crap! They would reverse the payment to the proper account (which would take to business days), but not fix my credit report!!! DO NOT USE SYNCHRONY BANK!! They ought to remame themselves "SINK"RONY!!!

What a complete scam! I have the Care Credit Credit card and used it for a month promotion to pay for my son's braces No interest if paid within months Sounds great right? WRONG! What they fail to do is spread out the payments evenly over the months If you have a previous balance they pay that down first They do not charge you enough each month to cover the promotion So at the end you are left with one BIG FAT PAYMENT It must be paid by the due date or you are charged interest on the entire purchase ($1,in interest in my case) What poor business practices they use Bunch of scam artists
