Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

They advertised and grant this credit for medical use, but then make it difficult to pay and get medical tax advantages Synchrony will no longer take health savings account debit card as form of payment This credit from Synchrony was taken out as advertised and used for medical reasons I lose my medical tax advantage if I do not use my health savings account to pay Synchrony says I can go to the health saving account holder and see if they will issue a check from my account to pay, but that requires me to go to the back every time I want to make a payment, and that is if my health savings account holder will even issue a check from my health savings account This was not an issue when they were GE Capitol

STAY AWAYSynchrony Bank mistakenly reports on people's credit reportsSomeone's account was past due; their name was similar to mine, and their soc numbers was similar to mine, however, our date of birth was completely differentSynchrony Bank decides to report on my credit, which I found infuriatingThey will not work with me, because I cannot get the cardholder on the phone with meHow could I, right? In order to get this charge off my credit, I will have to deal with the credit bureauSave yourself a headache and stay away

First of all, to get started, I was never notified that GE Capital has changed to Synchrony BankI had Synchrony Bank calling me over and over, but I thought it was a debt collector calling for my sister (she has terrible credit), so I never acknowledged the callI got an interest free credit line from Floor and Decor for months, but, I was never told when the first bill would be due, no notification or anything, you just have to checkSo, while the pay period started on the 20th, the first bill is due the 2nd of the next month, again, never notifiedSo, I set a reminder to pay the bill next month, which is in about weeks, and I get a letter in the mail telling me that my payment was returned to them from my bankSo, I get online and check my profile and it says I have a late fee because I haven't paid my bill, but the due date on the bill is like I said, still in about weeksSo, I have a late fee on my bill for a payment that is not due for another weeksI didn't pay the fee, and called them, and they told me it was basically a suggestion, telling you what the late fee would be if it wasn't paidIf it was a suggestion, why did it show up on my bill? Anyways, so I am just fed up with this company by now, so I go to just pay off everything all at once and be done with this because I have REALLY good credit, and I'm not even years of age yet, so, I didn't want to screw it upSo, I go to pay the rest and find out that they had deleted my account from my other bankThis tells me that my payment was initially retured to them, probably because they deleted my account, no idea whyI have money in it, and much more than my first paymentSo, in retrospect, I will NEVER use GE Capital/Synchrony Bank again

Don't listen to good reviews about this bankThe Revdex.com gets paid to list them as goodThe bank Syncronisity is crooks

This bank is highly poor in customer service and their overall Business process really sucks They called me on my cell phone, and telling me that my cell phone number is not verified Height comes when they need my photo id and address proof to be mailed on their PO Box address to verify my phone number What the stupid process is this? In today's world, when card application happens online, this bank does not have any process to verify cell number (that is already in their record) online And, because of unverified cell number, they have blocked my account completely Here again they make us fool, saying they can not disclose any account information or take any customer request further But, they are ready to close the account if customer requests Do you guys really want business or not? It gives an impression that you are doing favor by offering credit card, and not at all interested in retaining customer Totally disappointed with the service

I used this card back in and was $away from paying it off to defer the interest When I called them to process the final payment prior to the promotional period ending, they somehow were unable to process it Here is is and I am still paying on this bill I am not sure what happened in the interim but now my balance is over $with only $in interest? This balance was paid off years ago and if anything it was interest only!!! I am beyond livid and not one person has been able to assist me

I have two accounts with this bank one is for walmart the other is for amazonMy walmart card has never had a credit limit increase although I have never missed a single payment on this card and have even paid it off in full multiple times, however my biggest issue is with my amazon store card My limit was $and I just paid it off last month signed up for Amazon prime and bought a few things bringing my balance to $without warning when I signed in to make a payment on my account they lowered my limit to $putting my card at almost 100% utilizationWhen I called to find out why this had happened they said it was based on the credit report ran recently and when they decide to lower your limit they do so down to your current balanceHow is this ok? I get a $decrease and also a drop to my credit scoreHad I not paid off my balance last month for all the Christmas gifts I bought would my limit have stayed the same? I don't understand how this can be done when I've NEVER missed a single payment the entire time I've been with this bankI find this very distasteful and obsurd

My wife applied for credit with this bank only after being asked many times and being given materials to apply by Sam's Club The card supposedly offers 5% cash back on gas, 3% cash back on different things, and 2% on others or something to that effect Well, we got a credit card alright, unfortunately, it was a card that offered no benefits at all and with a $credit limit as they said we didn't qualify for their wonderful card that gave the benefitsWe have good credit and excellent ratios so my wife decided to apply the very next morning through Citibank for their DoubleCash back cardSurprise, surprise, Citibank approved the card the very next morning with a $credit lineAnd we already have a credit card with Chase with an even higher credit line with cash backWhen we called and asked them to cancel our card and get rid of the inquiry as it was hurting our credit card for a card that we did not ask for and did not want, they refused They have still not cancelled the card even though we have requested it several timesIn my humble opinion this bank is simply not reputable and the A- rating is several letters too high for sure The Attorney General for our state may very well be getting a letter from me as I believe this is a clear case of "bait and switch" which is an illegal practice Bottom line is that Citibank gave us their best card the day after Synchrony told us we didn't qualify for their card and sent us a card we didn't ask for Use caution in doing business with this bank

This bank does not appreciate their customer's businessI as a customer purchased furniture through a furniture stores that banks with SynchronyI've made all my payments via money orders because I do not like making payments onlineOn 2/24/I purchased a money order in the amount of $I made out the money order and mailed out to this bank like I've done many times overI get a call from the bank letting me know payment wasn't madeI was asked to submit proof via faxI faxed proof of purchase and Western Union's photocopy of cashed money orderClearly it was alteredSomeone from the post office or Synchrony Bank opened the envelope of my payment and took it upon themselves to alter and cash the money order under their nameI've gone back and forth with Synchrony and not one person is willing to work with me to give me a straight answer and say they are investigating their deptThe ONLY phone calls I get from Synchrony are TO MAKE A PAYMENTTHE WORST BANK!

Synchrony Bank recently purchased the BP Visa credit cards from Chase bank This occured during the period by which my card payment would have been posted through Chase's automatic billing system After getting the notices in the mail about the transtion to Synchrony I had no way of paying the bill via Chase's website and I had no information from Synchrony as to which department/number/website to call or access to get my card paid By the time I did get that information interest charges had already been posted to my account and late fee was posted as well After making a full balance payment I configured automatic payments in Synchrony's system come to find out that does not make automatic payments until the next billing cycle After $100+ in fees plus damage to my credit my account may finally be configured correctly I guess I will find out next month I will be baby sitting this account to confirm this is continuing to post payments correctly I am not pleased at all about this transition away from Chase, I will not recommend Synchrony Bank to anyone else

I'm a BP Chase customer who was told my account was being switched from Chase to Synchrony As of mid-May, I've been unable to access information about my account online with Chase I can't set up a new online account with Synchrony until I receive my new card, which I was told would be mailed around the end of May to mid-June It's now June 27th and I still don't have my new card Communication has been poor, and overall I would say that this transition has been terrible!

Very difficult to get in contact with Can't believe GE recommended them

I recently took over financial affairs, as financial POA, for my year old father who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer'sI was horrified to discover that my father has a "loan" through this company at nearly a 30% interest rateOn top of that, for each payment my father forgot to make due to his Alzheimer's, this company charged my father a $"late fee" I called the company's 1-number and was connected with a "customer service rep" that could barely speak EnglishI inquired about my father's account and the businessThe "customer service rep" did not know any details about the company, for example where they were based out of or where faxed correspondence would go toThe "customer service rep" did not even know if faxed correspondence would go somewhere inside the U.S When I questioned the "customer service rep" on the legitimacy of the business that he worked for, that he knew nothing about, conveniently he had to transfer me to a "supervisor"After ten minutes of waiting on hold I hung up the phone Very poor customer service Questionable fraudulent activity

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICEI recently reported fraud on my account and Synchrony Bank does not believe I made the chargesThey sent me documentations of the fraud transactions and the signature on the receipts is clearly not minesEveryone be warn and I do recommend obtaining a credit card from this bankIf my matter is not resolve I report this matter to an government agency

AWFUL phone service!!!! One cannot hear any communication be it from a recording or a representativeI hade tried six timesI have emailed twiceThis is the WORST phone communication I have ever encountered with any agency, company, bank, etc

Just went through a week navigating a labyrinth of ineptitude within this bank's customer service departmentSpent a total of 3+ hours on the phone, most of it on holdThey closed a new savings account on the same day they cashed the $20,check I sent to fund the accountThey never notified me that this deposit kicked out as an exception, only sent a form letter days later stating that my account was closedNo CSR could explain where my money was nor why I didn't receive notice of an exception to my depositUntil I reached a supervisor, I felt as if a CSR's primary metric is to complete a call ASAP and get me off the phoneA supervisor yesterday absolutely guaranteed me that my account would finally be credited for the initial deposit in last night's updateYet, this morning my account still had a zero balanceI took another hour on the phone with another supervisor, who apparently had to cajole the back office to please credit me with money that Synchrony received and cleared days ago This was more than an unacceptable customer service transactionThis was ineptitude bordering on fraudHow dare they take my money, yet fail to give me an accurate accounting of itI would not recommend doing business with this bank until they completely revamp the tools/training used by CSRs, who are really the customer's lifeline in an online banking situation

I wanted to build a CD ladder consisting of years @ one a month (CD's in all) When I could not find a box to check for interest disbursement, I called the company and was assured that after opening and funding the CD's, I could call and they would set it up where interest was taken annually and deposited into my online savings account with them After opening C.D.'s, I called and was told I would have to call each year on EACH one during the month it was purchased, and could not do it upon opening each CD I then asked to speak to a manager, was placed on hold, and then after minutes was hung up on

On Aug 17, Capital One mailed a check (Synchrony doesn't accept balance transfers via electronic transfer) to Synchrony I hadn't seen a payment post to my Synchrony account by the 23rd so I contacted Capital One and realized that I had given the wrong PO Box number I had given the number listed on the letter that the cards were attached to when sent to me When I realized my mistake I called Synchrony to find out if the check would eventually "catch up" to my account provided the account number was listed correctly The first person I spoke to was not fluent in English and did not understand my question "If Capital One sent a check to the wrong PO Box would it still make it's way to my account?" My answer, "that is not a Synchrony Bank PO Box number", really? I am looking at it as we speak on the letter the cards are attached to." Him, "let me speak to my supervisor"..."my supervisor says that isn't a PO Box we use"...Me "can I speak to the supervisor"...I again explain that I had originally put the incorrect PO Box on the balance transfer and just this evening realized my mistake My question is would the payment from Capital One "catch up" with my account? Supervisor (very slowly as if speaking to a child) "ma'am this is not Capital One, this is Synchrony"...Me "I know this is Synchrony, I said that it was a balance transfer check FROM Capital One"...eventually....supervisor "what PO Box did you use"...Me [redacted] ...supervisor "that isn't a payment PO Box"...Me, "I know that now, but my question is will the payment eventually make it's way to the correct department?"...supervisor "I don't know, maybe you should contact the your bank and put a trace on the check"...It is not from my bank and I know that it hasn't been cashed and it was sent to box [redacted] on the 17th"...supervisor "that's the wrong PO Box number for payments"...Me "I know that now, but that doesn't change my question"...supervisor, "I can't guarantee anything, if it went to the wrong PO Box they won't even open it"...Me, "how would they know it went to the wrong PO Box if they don't open it"...supervisor "it will be sent back to you since you sent it to the wrong PO Box"...Me "you know what, I'll just close all of my accounts, this is ridiculous"...supervisor (raising his voice) "LOOK, YOU SENT IT TO THE WRONG PO BOX"...at this point I did use some bad language...Me "don't raise your voice to me just because you can't seem to understand my question and your company has stupid policies"...supervisor (speaking even louder) "I am not raising my voice"...Me..."just give me your name and operator/supervisor number"...supervisor, "Charlie"...Me, "that's it, Charlie"...charlie, " we don't give out last names for security reasons"...Me, "I didn't ask for your last name, am just supposed to say I spoke to Charlie? Don't you have an operator number" charlie "it's ***"...Me and I want an address to complain about your customer service and you in particular"...After all of this I still have no idea what will happen to the check once it gets to the wrong PO Box, nor do I know why it is a situation that customer service finds impossible to answer" I will be paying off my accounts as quickly as possible It just sucks that I now have different accounts with them that all started out as different companies This is the first time I've had to deal with customer service on this particular account, suffice it to say that I am less than satisfied with the entire experience If Charlie [redacted] is the best you have to offer as a supervisor, then I suggest you go back to the want adds

I have an account with this BankMy account was originally with GE Capital My credit limit was and they reduced to they sebd a letter that hasn`t arrivedthis is ridiculousI want to cancel my account because that have a impact on my creditThe customer service is rude and unhelpfullI hate loosing my credit limitThis sounds like a very crappy organizationI will probably cancel my account

These people, Synchrony Bank, are by far the WORST credit card company I have ever dealt with I urge everyone to never deal with them for anything I don't think they have anyone who has ever run a credit card operation working there I disputed a charge because the airline involved did not deliver the product I paid for So they cancelled the card, because they cannot distinguish between a disputed charge which I did make, and a fraudulent charge which I did not make There was absolutely no need to cancel the card, but the it on the customer service line could not even understand why I had a problem with that Two weeks later, I still had no new card, and I found out that a card had not even been ordered yet So I had to wait two more weeks while they took their own time replacing the card that THEY cancelled for NO REASON On another occasion, customer disservice told me that I could not see my transactions online because I got paper bills I had been able to see them for years with paper bills, but there was no explanation for that Then magically, a few months later, I could see them again So customer disservice has no idea how or why anything works on their own website As a third item, this month they put my card on hold because I had charged $in gas and fast food a whole to mile away from my home I bought gas at the same station WEEKS prior They offer special rewards for gas and travel (including restaurant food), so YEAH itS, I use it when I travel Fourth, I had started to review their rewards credited to my account, because I am fairly certain they are not correct, well short of course These people cannot perform functions that credit card companies have been doing right for decades Their customer disservice is terrible BTW, their president, [redacted] ***, makes $million per year Obviously, she is ultimately responsible for the complete dysfunction in the credit card operation Somehow, these people are able to sell their brand credit cards to major retailersMine is Sams Club and I will share this information with them They should be ashamed to be associated with a company like this and it is totally out of character for the actual good customer service provided there
