TOPRESUME was hired to provide a service in which they did not. Plagiarism and little effort was put into their work and job was only 1/2 finished before they gave up on it and ended their work for me.

I am extremely disappointed with both the product delivered by TopResume and the response from customer service when I gave them that feedback. Their marketing and advertising is extremely misleading - one of the reasons I chose them is because of a complimentary review of the resume I had written on my own. Their review stated: "If employers see too many long
sections of text, they might find it difficult to zero in on the most crucial information. The size and type of bullets should also be taken into account. Although seemingly minor, the visual impact of a resume is the key to ensuring that an employer will read it thoroughly." I assumed that this feedback meant that they would know how to make a concise, visually impactful document, but what was provided to me was the exact opposite --three pages of long blocks of text that included skills in software I had never heard of, scattered with typos, and an incredibly underwhelming/boring text/formatting.

Additionally, when I shared my concerns and feedback with a manager they told me I needed to provide examples of designs for them to try and replicate--even though that's what I thought I had paid them for. When I asked for a refund, they said they would submit it for review but that it was not guaranteed because I "had not participated in the process." Then some sort of customer service representative left me a voicemail a week later--after trying to call her back four times and leaving two voicemails unreturned, I decided to submit this complaint.

I never write reviews or submit complaints but this service deserves it. I hope if I can't receive a refund I can at least prevent other people from falling for their scam techniques. I feel foolish for believing their marketing.

Thank you for your response. We see that a customer care representative has reached out to you via email today. Please respond to this email so we may assist you with resolving this issue.

On 10//2019 I was contacted by a representative from TopResume to begin the resume drafting process. I initially sent in my three page resume (written by me) in lieu of the questionnaire they requested. My resume writer provided me with a resume and cover letter draft on 10//2019 with the revision period ending on 10//2019. While reviewing content within the draft, I immediately realized that my work had been plagiarized. About 90% or more of the bullets were copied verbatim from the resume I originally submitted. The cover letter was short and to the point, and, I didn’t agree with the bullets he used to highlight my experience, but it was not a big issue, because I could replace the bullets.

On 10//2019, the same day I received the resume draft. I emailed the writer and explained that the cover letter was fine, but the resume was copied verbatim, and that if he could not produce a better product to let me know. He emailed back stating he would re-write and have it to me by Wednesday 10//2019, before close. On 10//2019, I received an email stating he would not be able to get me the resume until Friday, but that I would not be rushed at any point and would have all the time needed to work on the revisions. On Friday 10//2019, I received the second draft of my resume, cover letter, and *** profile. When I reviewed the revision of my resume I found that the professional experience portion of the resume still contained a lot of what I had written with only the first word (buzz words) being changed, The *** profile also contained the same bullets from the resume, which is normal, but because I had an issue with the resume bullets I also had an issue with the content that would be used in the *** profile, not to mention my revision date still had a deadline of 10//2019 even though it was stated in the email that I would not be rushed.

On 10//2019, I contacted customer service, and explained the situation to the representative. I became very upset with her during the conversation, because I had to repeat myself multiple times although she acted as if she was following me, but seemed to not be in tune with what I was trying to convey to her many times during the conversation. She even admitted to seeing that many of the bullets had been copied verbatim. Below are the issues, I found disturbing during my conversation with the representative

1. She immediately attempted to negate the fact that the first resume was copied verbatim from what I had written, and submitted to the writer as a guide. She wanted to focus on the revision, that I explained I was still unhappy with, because he only changed the first word in a lot of the bullets, but still used the remainder of the bullets I had originally written and submitted. I reiterated to her that I had emailed him and let him know that I wanted a new product.

2. She also stated that the resume writer and I should have been working together and, I was welcome to give my suggestions. I explained to her that I did when I submitted three pages of through information to him, and I also sent multiple job descriptions, and he never stated that he needed more information from me.
3. When I ask the representative why the employee would think this was acceptable the the representative stated that their could be a few reasons why this could have happened. Maybe he had to many cases, he didn’t have enough time, and, so I felt at that point if this is the strain the employees are under I should ask for a refund and cut my losses.
4. She offered to have a different writer assigned to me, and explained that I didn’t want to have the resume worked on anymore, and preferred a refund. At that point, I felt bamboozled. For them to have an employee copy a resume verbatim and submit the work back to the person that had written it was disturbing. Did they think I wouldn’t notice?
5. I received the first resume draft on 10//2019. The revision deadline was 10//2019 at that time. I requested a revision that same day. The revision was due to me on 10//2019, but I didn’t receive it until 10//2019. After being told I wouldn’t be rushed I was still given a revision deadline of 10//2019.
6. After, I explained that I would like a refund, and admitted that the only product, I was satisfied with was the cover letter, she explained she would send a request and get back with me. She followed up on 10//2019, and informed me that she could provide a 40% discount , or she could have the resume assigned to a new writer.
7. I was also told that I can make edits and send to the writer, and I responded to her that I will not make any edits. That is why he is being paid. If I wanted to write a resume, I would have taken the time to re-write the resume he copied verbatim.

My Concerns:

1. At this point, I don’t trust these people, why would they have employees that feel it is okay to copy a resume verbatim and ask you to pay for it. They offered a 40% refund, but I feel they I should only have to pay for the cover letter because the writer used my content not his own.
2. The amount I am paying $349 for a half done resume, cover letter, and *** profile that lacks original content and doesn’t contain any information that I don’t already have on the profile is a rip-off.
3. I am glad that they offered to re-write, but I have lost at least a week of applying for jobs when I thought I would have this resume to use, and now they want me to wait another few days and trust that they will get it right, and still pay full price. That is not customer service. If a company is at fault they should offer a commensurate refund for the services that were not satisfactory and 40% off is not when the resume and *** profile are clearly the issues, because the same bullets in the resume are used for the *** profile.

After careful review of the email sent to me on October *** from TopResume, I was not satisfied with the refund amount. I paid for multiple services (resume, *** profile, and cover letter) and I feel the only document that I would be able to use is the cover letter. The resume is exactly what was written in the resume that I wrote and submitted as a reference to the resume writer. The professional summary was changed, but all the bullets consisted of what I had written with only the first word being changed in some of them. The *** profile summary is a duplicate of the resume, so I’m having a hard time understanding why I paid for a service, but I’m still having to write my own resume. I am willing to accept more of a refund that would be fair to both parties.
Thanks,

I am not happy at all with my resume, cover letter or Linkedin makeover. TopResume provided. The whole process was very rushed and non-personalized. The writer took what I had on the resume I provided and reformatted the same exact content. I did not see any meaningful contribution that what would help me stand out. The resume I ended up with is hard to read, it is not at all clean, uncluttered, or appealing to the eye. The job experience is not grouped in any particular way. I asked for more emphasis to be placed on my management, HR and accounting experience I did not see any improvement in that area either. Like I said, they used the exact same content that I had and threw in a few keywords. How does that help me at all? If my current resume content was good or successfully to me why would I need their service. That is not what I was paying for.

The Linkedin makeover is even worse. There was no personalization to it at all! The introduction that was provided on my resume is the same that the writer placed on my linked in profile. However the introductory way over exceeds the word maximum. If they paid any attention or actually looked to see what the Linked in requirements were, they would actually know that.

I purchased the Cover Letter, Resume, and LinkedIn rewrite package. The cover letter was fine, a bit generic but I understand the purpose of that. The Resume, however, 1) The first writer was non responsive, and when I suggested Edits did not make them to my satisfaction, I requested a 2nd writer who incorrectly conjugated verbs, and had other grammar errors. The LinkedIn rewrite was nothing more than cut outs from the resume with the same grammar errors, and false claims of education that I never made. I asked for a refund, it was denied, I asked to speak to management someone from their office called me, we agreed to a partial refund, and 2 days after the completion of the phone call, I received an email stating they would not be doing the partial refund. Their products are not as they claim, and we had a verbal agreement to a partial refund that was not seen through.

Dear Revdex.com,

On July , 2019, I acquired the Executive Priority Resume Writing Package offered by Top Resume under the order #***.

The executive priority resume writing package offers:

- Executive writer - Top 10% of our network.
- Formatting that will get an employer's attention.
- Your resume will be optimized to pass through Applicant Tracking Systems.
- Cover letter
- 60-day interview guarantee.
- LinkedIn Makeover

It is stated under the Frequently Asked Questions that: "your new resume will be delivered to you in about a week. Then, you'll have another week to provide feedback to your writer, with up to two rounds of revisions. The process typically takes one to two weeks."

The writer assigned to my order was Rebecca A. who started working on my resume by July, *** 2019.

Rebecca delivered the initial draft with several grammar errors, misspellings, and incomplete sentences. I brought this issue to the attention of Top Resume who assured me the issues would be fixed on the following review.

After several versions and a constant back and forth interaction, it was very difficult to get a proofed-read version of my resume, I involved several colleagues to find errors, misspellings, misinformation, and grammar issues.

By September *** the last version of my resume was completed. It is worth noticing that this version was not error-free. I had to spend several hours fixing English issues. It was clear that after several months of interaction the writer assigned to my order did not possess the skills to provide a quality resume (as it was advertised).

Very concerned about this ongoing issue I decided to make several calls to the customer service line. After speaking with the customer service representative it was confirmed that the writer was located overseas, and this was the origin of the grammar issues, misspellings and lack of knowledge about my industry.

I manifested my concern over the phone and over e-mail, a new writer was assigned to my LinkedIn profile.

To my surprise the LinkedIn profile was a copy-paste of my resume, but with less information. The information was incomplete and did not make sense. I brought this issue again to the attention of my writer (Lin) who fixed the "HEADLINE & PROFILE SUMMARY" for LinkedIn.

The project was closed by October ***.

I proceeded and started applying using this version of my resume.

All I've gotten so far are rejections from the companies I have applied for, this resume is not able to pass the ATS as promised, it is not keyword optimized for my industry and far from helping me is causing delays on my application.

I have decided to use my own resume, the version I had before working with Top Resume, as I got several interviews and calls when using my own version.

I am very dissatisfied because:

a. Grammar errors are unacceptable and unprofessional.
b. Misspellings are unacceptable, as most text editors provide a way to check these issues.
c. The writer was not within the top 10%. The writer is overseas and does not know my industry. (Contrary to what is advertised).
d. This resume is not able to pass the ATS, and does not provide meaningful information about my career.

After several months of wait, back and forth, and hard work from my part, the only solution is to use my original version of the resume.

I am looking for a full refund, as the service was clearly differnt from what was acquired.

TopResume offers a resume and cover letter writing experience that alters Applicant Tracking System (ATS) results on your resume after their revision process. Unfortunately, their process resulted in worse ATS results than from my initial resume I submitted. I had to request from the writer and customer service three times for the ATS results. The revision process resulted in a back and forth between the writer on grammatical errors, awkward phrasing and misleading information as if someone very unfamiliar with my profession had rewritten the resume and cover letter, which goes against their promise of a qualified writer. I reached out to customer service to explain I was displeased. It has been a two week long ordeal after asking for a refund three times back and forth to only receive no feedback from their customer service regarding the refund status after promising I would have information in 1 business day. Essentially, the resume rewrite should have been geared to help me a get a job in my field but instead from their false advertising this is not the case. It seems as though they did not use a qualified resume writer and now are avoiding to resolve the unsatisfactory business practices.

I have nothing and paid good money
They told me in my critique that my resume needed so many changes, yet they did not provide any of those changes. The only difference was that it was now in paragraph format instead of bullet points (which made it very hard to read). The insane part is that the initial critique said MORE bullet points needed. None of the information they requested from me on a questioner was included. The resume is horrible and doesn't make it past the ATS system. Main reason I purchase this was to get past ATS
their writers are unable to defend and explain the decisions and changes they make. They did not profile the free critique issues. I asked three times for why certain words and phrases were used & why the most important keywords were not I sent detailed information and crucial buzz & key word for my industry Nope did not use.
In my opinion the writer not only had no idea about my industry, they advertise that you will be matched with a professional resume writer FAMILIAR with your field and experience. Anything BUT THE TRUTH. I was really surprised that they counted the days that I was waiting on them to respond as part of the overall 7 day window, especially given that most of the time was wasted by their lack of response could go on forever but have no more waste time. Below is the final please to them for something there have been numerous previous attempts.

I am livid that I still have no usable resume. I sent pages & pages of relevant information, corrections& comments to Jen(writer) to revise resume so that it would be what I paid for. The rewrites sent paid no attention to anything being sent and I spent hours. Then had 2 separate responses from customer service (oxymoron ) send me emails 1st this verbage *** The Subject line said Potential Customer Issue Order *** When I wrote back and explained NEVER HEARD AGAIN from Ashley. But I did get an email from Customer Care (another oxymoron) Erica stating Your writer informed us that you were not happy with the documents in their current state. Can you elaborate on your concerns? With more information, we can best determine how to assist you.

We look forward to your feedback. I responded and never heard from anyone again. So I have nothing and you guys made sure that you took it to the window of the end of revision deadline

I paid for a cover letter and resume. The first finished product I received seemed fine but got no responses from potential employers. I notified TopResume and they offered me a rewrite. If I were able to leave 0 stars I would. I worked with two different representatives and both formats and grammar were atrocious. I advised TopResume that the format used was not parsing on any ATS system and they refuse to have a manager call me. The grammar makes it appear that the resume was written by someone that does not consider English their first language. Do not waste your money on this service. They do not stand behind their work and will not respond to any requests to speak to management.

Much like many of the other complaints I see, the product I received in exchange for the purchase of rendered services was sub par at best. While the product was returned in a timely fashion (only 2 hours after a writer was assigned which began to peak my skepticism that this was going to be a custom/personalized service), it lacked a majority of my professional history and contained a litany of buzz phrases/words that you hear in the corporate world. The types of phrases that you hear and associate with people that like to talk about doing work but don't actually do any work. After turning back a version with tracked changes and several comments/questions in both the resume and cover letter, I received a second draft that changed nothing more than removing a few blatant inaccuracies/mistakes form the first draft. At that point, it was clear to me what this was and I had been burned. It is clear to me, not only in the cursory knowledge of english grammar/syntax used by the 'expert' resume writers but also in the times of day that they 'respond' to you, that a majority of the actual resume 'writing' is done by an offshore staff. I come from a financial technology background where using offshore resources to do repetitive/conveyor belt type of work is very common. Reading through the other complaints, it seems that the quality of the work product is consistently unsatisfactory and had the glaring demarcations of a primarily offshore operation. The issue I have is that the services are advertised as personalized and there is very little about this service that doesn't feel like a conveyor belt operation. Resumes are your first impression at an employer and I would be embarrassed to use the drafts returned to me as such. Unfortunately, their terms and conditions seem to preclude getting a refund of any kind and just offer a 'rewrite' which is the last thing I am interested in. I just hope others read this and save themselves the $220.

As an attorney, it is incumbent on me at the outset to state that taken in conjunction with each other, the nature of this TopResume's (hereinafter "Company") product/advertising are misleading such that they likely run afoul of the Federal Trade Commission's standards for Unfair or Misleading Trade Practices and almost certainly constitute false advertising. The company uses a bait and switch tactic to lure prospective job seekers to retain their services for assistance in revising presumably inadequate resumes. The Company employs a resume review system, whereby Customers interested in making changes to their resume and possibly in need of the Company's assistance with doing the same, can upload their existing resume for review by one of the Company's "resume experts." What the Company does not tell its prospective customers is that it uses an automated feedback system that is designed to generate feedback which misleads customers into thinking that their resume is inadequate as written and that said customer would benefit tremendously from the Company's services. This feedback system, curiously enough, gave the same critiques for both the initial resume that I submitted for review and the revised version provided to me by one of their resume writers. I had purchased their executive package wanting to jump start my job search after having been licensed to practice as an attorney in my state. The finished product given to me was deficient to the point of being farcical. It was rife with formatting errors and objectively looked worse than what I had at the outset, almost as if put through an automated resume generator. I have no confidence whatsoever in this Company to resolve my issues with their work product and it is so deficient that it materially diverges from my expectation as a consumer. This purchase is in the nature of a personal services contract, intended to be done to the satisfaction of the individual consumer. What was given to me is so deficient that I take it to be a material breach of that agreement, and I am entitled to the purchase price in order to be made whole again. This Company's repeated instances of predatory conduct coupled with the continued dissatisfaction of its customers speaks volumes about the integrity of their business practices.

I requested TopResume to rewrite my resume for me and provided them a copy of my existing resume. When I received the draft a found blatant misspellings, horribly fragmented sentences, sentence combinations that didn't make since, and abbreviations for words that don't exist, I emailed the writer and requested a full refund pointing out all the errors. I also pointed out that 60% of the resume still remained to be written by me even though I had just paid them $150 to re-write the resume. After several emails with rude customer service persons, TopResume has refused to refund the money since they have provided a draft and offered to have a more experienced resume writer to re-write the resume. Unacceptable. I have continually asked for a full refund.

Greetings!

They emailed me their review and comments about my resume. I paid them $219 to rewrite my resume professionally and apply all the points that they mentioned in their review. The first draft of my resume disappointed and frustrated me so much. Nothing was applied. The writer had no idea about that review at all. I am a masonry estimator and the writer was talking about product manufacturing and equipment pricing. He didn't know anything about my field. I didn't hear back for a few weeks. After reminding them, the writer sent me the second draft of my resume with same mistakes. I realized that they are not able to do the job satisfactorily. Just by adding some tricky and heavy terminology, you cannot write an effective resume. My existing resume is much better than their two drafts. I am not interested to try another writer. I know I will be wasting my time. I am just too much disappointed and frustrated. I am not interested to deal with them anymore. I need my $219 back. I need a full refund. I cannot afford to lose $109.50. That's my hard earned money. You could not provide me the service that I paid you for. You must return my money. I cannot accept 50% of what I paid. Why should I lose $109.50? How can I do that? Please help me get my money back. I need a full refund.

Thank you so much for your help.

Absolutely disingenuous. The resume the company put together for me inadvertently got sent for review when I posted it on a site to apply for a job. I got back a review critiquing many weaknesses. When I pointed out my frustration since this was a resume they wrote, they provided some dubious response saying it was an automated review that couldn't truly distinguish the quality of the resume, and it was mixing my old one with my new one. How could that possibly be true when I never had a full original resume submitted to them?

I was promised a highly powerful resume with optimum key word search. Rep I was paired with refused to speak with me over the phone. Went back and forth via email dozens of times and they did not produce what I wanted. Many times the edits came back incomplete or not at all what I wanted. Final ATS (Automatic Tracking Score) Scan came in very low in my field and added finance which I'm not even applying for! NOT happy. Complete waste of time and money.

A) The product/service packaging is misleading.

Before purchase, I engaged with the company for their "free expert review". In that review, they made several observations about my resume and how it could be improved by purchasing their product/service. Based on these observations/recommendations, I purchased their product.
In its first draft, the company had not applied its own recommendations. After mentioning this to them, they claimed that it was "boilerplate" text and that it was something they said to all potential customers. The following is the direct quote from the company,
"Those recommendations, by the way, are a bit boilerplate - we tell that to everyone, basically."

My decision to purchase their product was on the basis of their recommendations. I was lied to.

B) The resume writer claimed to have lost my information.

Again after their first draft, I mentioned that there was some information that was not applied. The writer stated they had lost this information and requested for me to resend it. After complaining to their support team, they claimed that they did, in fact, have this information. After which, the writer did not even update the draft to reflect the new information. They state that the customer and business work together towards an end goal. But I should not be telling them how to locate the missing information, remind them of what they promised me. This is a lack of professionalism towards their customers.

I sent them multiple emails requesting a full refund. Their final offer was an option to continue working with them or a partial refund of 50 per cent.

I could understand them offering a partial refund for complaint B. However complaint A is unacceptable to me. No customer should be lied to.
