The Retail Edge staff have not clearly understood the issue I am presentingI was not denied a return; I was given an warning for during a return of dead on arrival merchandiseThe return was allowed, but my complaint with the company has to why a warning would be issued in the first place. Also, The Retail Edge had requested the transaction number from the receipt that generated the warning which was provided to themThat transaction number would provide all of the information that is being requested again.

For the moment, I am grateful that The Retail Equation have erased my customer information and government id from their system as they have indicated in their response. I will consider this complaint resolved. However, I urge them to find another method of storing and retaining customers' private government issued information. The Retail Equation should consider creating its own customer id based on non-government issued customer data which is usually available from the merchant, eg the merchant's credit card information or the merchant's customer id. Using the unique and often lifetime government-id number and data which is provided for government use is the easy way out for them, but if their data center was ever hacked and statistically speaking: one day it will, then they will have compromised many customers' private data that will put them at risk of having their identities stolen. At the very least, The Retail Equation should periodically erase customer data when inactive for some time to minimize risks of theft. They should provide the customer with clear terms and conditions about The Retail Equation's data collection and privacy policy before they accept to deal with the merchants who use their services. For the record, I will personally avoid dealing with a retailer who deals with the Retail Equation or who stores indefinitely my private government issued id and other private information
