Aamco Transmissions Reviews (448)

Mrs. [redacted] had her car towed from the dealer to our facility on December 8, 2014. After performing our multi-point inspection it was determined that the vehicle had an internal transmission problem. Because we repair the original transmission we need to remove, dismantle, and...

inspect the internal components of the transmission in order to determine what parts are needed when there is an internal problem. At this point, Mrs. [redacted] authorized the internal inspection of the transmission parts. Once we completed the Internal inspection, the price we quoted Mrs. [redacted] for the transmission rebuild was nearly $400.00 less than the dealer price with the same warranty. We never told Mrs. [redacted] that the price would be $1000.00 less than the dealer. Mrs. [redacted] decided that she preferred a dealer transmission and that she was going to tow the car back to the dealership. She told us to leave the transmission removed from the vehicle as it would be more convenient for the dealer to just install their transmission and not have to remove the transmission If we re-installed it back into the vehicle. She also indicated that she would save money in labor costs to keep it removed as the dealer would charge her to remove the transmission. The removal and inspection fee was $395.00 which SHE chose to pay by cash.

On April 20th, 2016, at 3:00pm, I had to request police assistance in retrieving my client's vehicle from the Aamco at [redacted]. They claimed the damage to the vehicle's front diver side shock would make them liable unless I towed it off the property, or had them replace it. But they refused to give me a price for the work. Although they were aware that I work for a security agency, and handle vehicle maintenance for my site, they said they would only discuss the terms with my supervisor or client. When the police arrived, they relinquish the vehicle without hesitation. It appeared it was moved to the front parking area the moment the police were on the property. If they gave me a price, I would have given them the work, and more in the future. But I will never return. The mechanic at another shop said there would be no danger if I drove the vehicle for a day, while waiting for the new parts to arrive, and there wasn't.

This customer had a significant amount of work done on here car other than what she has described here.  While the car was in the shop, the fusible link ignited because her alternator was charging at 35 volts, in which should have been at 14 volts causing a surge in power.  [redacted] still...

owes us money on that repair that she has never come in to pay.  the bill is in excess of $500.  We will not be refunding any money at this time.  The car had multiple issues and the work she is asking to be refunded was in fact needed and done.  If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

[redacted] brought his car in on the first visit after he diagnosed it with bad mounts. We installed the mounts for him for $750 on 2/13/14. On 5/21/14, [redacted] called & said his transmission was malfunctioning, and he needed it repaired. He said the reverse was chattering, and the Torque Converter...

Clutch was stuck on. We checked the vehicle out for free & found two separate problems. The transmission had forward/Reverse engagement issues, and the motor mount was broken again.

The internal transmission inspection revealed a burned forward clutch, and a worn out TCC regulator valve. [redacted] authorized the repairs that Thursday. The mount was replaced for free.

A couple of weeks later, we received the Revdex.com complaint stating that the mount broke again. At this point I decided to get BOTH mounts from Chrysler to avoid having a third failure. We planned on paying the difference in the cost.

There is NO QUESTION that the transmission needed repair. I still have the old parts here to prove it. Sometimes cars have more than one problem, and this is one of those cases.

I will email you copies of all of the duplicate invoices. I can produce signed originals if necessary

Thank You,

I don't understand how they can't find me in the system, when my name & info is in report, also I provided the phone number off off my invoice , so I don't see how there claiming to be AAMCO Mesa , either way...

with the info I already provided they should be able to find in the system & that I paid just shy $2700 for  insufficient repairs..

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Allow me to address Mr [redacted] slanderous, insulting and farcical response to my complaint of inadequate and incomplete repairs to my car dated 10/07/2014. 1. I went to his shop simply because a new mechanic to this shop ([redacted]) had worked on my car within that prior year on a transmission that I had replaced. I called [redacted]'s previous employer who told me that he was no longer there. I had his number and called him and he gave me the address of his new employer which turned out to be this Aamco. His very personable manager [redacted] seemed familiar to me but I didn't give it much thought. I included a picture of the damage cause by his shop on that occasion (cracked wood) 2 1/2 years earlier. A local Jaguar dealer told me that the part would cost $900. 2. I went there with the specific purpose of having the work done as stated on the work order under DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM. Nothing less. As you can see there is nothing entered under ADDITIONAL REPAIRS DECLINED. 3. I only realized there was a problem with the repair on my drive home from the shop on 10/7/2014 when the ABS light came back on. I immediately pulled over, still on 51st Ave and called [redacted] and was informed FOR THE FIRST TIME, that the ABS was not repaired. 4. I disputed the charge the next day. GE did not decide anything other then it was not their job, as a bank, to determine who was right or wrong. 5.The harassment and extortion is particularly offensive since I was never hostile or belligerent. I never argued or raised my voice to [redacted] who I felt was simply mistaken, not criminal, and only recall speaking with him perhaps one more time before he left with some illness in November. In fact, it is Mr. [redacted] who had me come to the shop before Thanksgiving wherein we agreed that I would pay between approximately $60-$100 for a used ABS module and Aamco would install it at no additional cost. Although I had already paid him for this repair and believed that it would be with a new part, I accepted his offer because I wanted the ordeal to be over. We shook on it. I waited for him to acquire the module and call me. With the holidays I did not press the issue. I believe that it was just after Christmas when I called and spoke with Mr [redacted] and he told me then that "legal" would not allow him to put in a used ABS module. I doubted the truth of the statement but I asked that if I acquired the module if he would install it. He said yes. I asked for the agreement in writing this time since the last agreement wasn't honored and I didn't want to buy a module and not have someone set to install it..and strongly sensed that I was getting put off. He said that he would send me something in writing but did not and the last time we spoke when he said, that he would "try" to send me something in writing and getting tired of his games, I insisted on knowing if he would or would not send in writing that he would install the module that I purchased. Finally.. he said that he would not and would not complete anything..ever. I hope that Mr [redacted]'s use of names and accusation of a "campaign of harassment and extortion" gives you a measure of this man's character. Using [redacted]'s illness to demean me is pathetic in itself. The scope of work is the DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM and is clear, as well as clearly not done.Regards,[redacted]

Can you please provide more info this customer isn't in my system. We are aamco mesa

[redacted]:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. When I took the car in on 4/4 I never once mentioned that the transmission was slipping.  I only described the noise I was hearing, explained I'd been driving with it for a couple of months and was encouraged to get it checked as it might be problematic.  That's why I took it to AAMCO in the first place.  When [redacted] called me early Friday afternoon, they had only done an external inspection that he told me everything looked fine.  He said they had road tested the car and heard what I had described. NOTHING was mentioned about a wheel bearing problem until I picked up the car, paid for it, and was walking out the door when [redacted] comment began....Oh by the way.  They did NOT confirm a transmission problem until Monday morning when they called me to tell me they determined it had overheated and needed $2500 worth of parts and labor.  It was at this point that he insisted he needed my approval to start repair.  I told him I was walking on a busy street, couldn't hear him clearly and would have to call back.  Again the comment of needing to start repair.  When I called him back and he reiterated the parts and labor list, I told him I had to call back again after determining how I was going to pay for it.  Again I was pressured for approval because as he said, "The car is on a lift and we need to start repair on it".  When I called back the third time we discussed financing and that was when I decided how I was going to pay for it.  I then approved the work that I was told was necessary and understood that would cure the noise problem I took the car in to them in the first place. It is a lie that AAMCO would state that I took the car in for a wheel bearing problem.  As I have said before, the actual words "wheel bearing problem" were never mentioned until [redacted] said them as I was leaving after paying for the car and it was a by the way.  When I asked about the severity of a wheel bearing problem, he also said it would cost $200 to repair.  If I DID bring the car in for a wheel bearing problem I would never have asked to have the transmission checked and put myself purposely in a position to spend $2500 I didn't have if the problem could be fixed for $200.  In their response, AAMCO has completely misrepresented the truth.

Regards,[redacted]

Mr [redacted] had his expedition towed in to repair a leak from the front of his transmission.  At that time he had been preapproved for 600 minus his down payment on the repairs.  Unfortunately his truck needed more extensive repairs than what they had stated on the phone and the transmission...

needed to be rebuilt due to more extensive damage.  We then attempted to get his wife financed for the repairs but unfortunately the finance companies did not approve her.  The key was lost in the process but we did purchase a new key at no charge to the customer.  The battery in their truck was no good and it was in fact replaced with a new one.  I even went as far to finance Mr and Mrs [redacted] on part of the repairs because they did not have the funds to pay for the vehicle.  I understand that their interest is high on the title loan they took out to pay for part of the repairs but they did have the finance company pay off an existing title loan they had on the vehicle from another loan company.  We do not control interest rate for the finance companies.  I even gave them a key fob from my expedition so they had one.  We will not be refunding money on this job but I am wondering what you mean by an exchange?

To whom it may concern,Mrs. M[redacted]'s chrysler minivan came into our shop with axle seal leaks.  We replaced both axle seals,  which would normally be an easy fix.  Unfortunately on this vehicle,  the passenger side axle leak didn't get fixed on the first attempt....

On the second visit to our shop we confirmed that the passenger side was indeed still leaking. We also noticed that someone had replaced both axles prior to us working on the vehicle for the first time.  Replacement axles can have a huge impact on whether or not an axle seal will seal properly.Things like vibration,  surface imperfections,  machining of seal surface,  and retaining clip are a few examples of things that can cause an axle seal to not seal properly.  Mrs. M[redacted] was made aware of this,  and she was informed that if the axle seal continued to leak she will need to return to whoever replaced her axles and get the passenger side warrantied out.  The axle seal did leak again,  but the M[redacted]s are unwilling to follow our recommendation.  They just want money. The vehicle was damaged when it arrived here.  Not only did we document it on their diagnostic form,  we also rewound our video tapes to the time the vehicle was brought into the shop and the video shows that it clearly was already damaged prior to us working on it.Unfortunately,  they parked the vehicle off of our property when they dropped it off,  so I cannot see in our surveillance system whether or not it was damaged prior to dropping it off.  I suppose it's possible that someone from one of the other businesses in the general vicinity could've hit the van,  but we will never know because they parked it in front of someone else's business outside of the viewing area of our surveillance system. The damage has nothing to do with this claim.  We have already established thru our video that the damage did not happen as a result of our negligence.  So that leaves the repeat leak.  The axle seal is under warranty.  The M[redacted]s have not even brought the vehicle back so we can confirm that it is even still leaking.  They just want money.  If they bring the vehicle back so we can confirm it,  we can either fix it here,  or they can bring it to one of our other locations to be repaired under warranty. If they do return to get the leak fixed,  we will need proof that the passenger side axle has been replaced before we put another seal in.We cannot continue replacing seals for free when a customer ignores our recommendations. The original seal leaked after axle replacement(at a different shop).  The first seal that we installed leaked,  and the second replacement seal is also leaking.  It doesn't take a specialist to determine that something else is causing the leak.Thank You,Ron K[redacted]Manager,  AAMCO Surprise

I am writing in response to complaint [redacted].   As of the date of the complaint recieved [redacted] had already had her car returned to her completed.  Mrs...

[redacted] did recieve an estimate before any repairs were done and did authorize the rebuild of her transmission.  I have spoken to her and she was frusterated that the repairs were taking as long as they were but unfortunately we had a delay in the delivery of the parts.  She has been back for additional repairs since and seems to be very happy with the service.  If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me any time.

Best Regards,

We did rebuild the transmission in this Buick Lucerne back in November of last year.  By the customer's own admission,  this was a vehicle purchased at auction.  The transmission had numerous problems that were documented on the original free check(see attached).  These problems were including,  but not limited to,  numerous trouble codes stored in the computer.  The transmission had internal mechanical damage prior to arriving here,  causing it to slip,  bang, fall out of gear completely,  and turn on the check engine light
The transmission was rebuilt to manufacturer's specs,  but we noticed that one of the prior codes had returned: P[redacted] (pressure switch anomaly).  I warned [redacted] that we would have to keep an eye on this because it seemed to be a very intermittent problem that could be difficult to diagnose because of the intermittent nature of the issue.  She agreed to take the car and drive it for the 10 days and return for a follow up check.  The light came back on,  she returned,  but the problem had disappeared by the time she arrived.  Yes,  the light was still on,  but the vehicles computer will store a code for a pre-determined amount of time even if the problem is not there any more.  We drove the car NUMEROUS TIMES and couldn't recreate the conditions that were causing the code.  All of the original problems: Falling out of gear,  slipping,  banging,  were fixed.  We admitted whole heartedly that there was a remaining issue that we needed to take care of,  but she did not even try to understand that an intermittent problem can be one of the most difficult to diagnose.  This code P[redacted] can be caused by issues in the computer,  wiring harness,  and/or any connector in between.  It could even be the underlying cause that made the transmission fail in the first place.  She cannot seem to grasp this concept,  and just wants us to fix it and FIX IT NOW.  She even asked me why we don't replace the computer and wiring harness on every transmission job?!?!

Mrs. [redacted] continues to make false and misleading statements. She claims that saving $400.00 through us was a joke. Most customers would be grateful for this savings. Her car was at the dealership before she had it towed to us. Parts were dissembled by the dealership when we received the vehicle. The shift cable was disassembled and left disconnected when we received the vehicle. The cable end was hanging because it was damaged prior to us receiving the vehicle. If Mrs. [redacted] wants to bring forward her "witnesses" that she claims to have then we can certainly bring forward the trespassing citation that was issued by the [redacted] given to her husband due to his violent behavior. In additional we can still press charges against Mr. [redacted] for his assault on my employee which we have several witnesses who saw this assault. As far as putting the transmission back together, her statement simply is false. The paperwork clearly indicates that the transmission was left disassembled and her signature is clearly on the paperwork. If this was not the case then it is hard to believe that Mrs. [redacted] would have signed the paperwork. Please refer to the signed paperwork that we provided.

I am not one to write a negative statement on a public space, but this has been one of the worst experiences in customer service I have experienced. I took my 2003 Dodge Durango to Hector at the Scottsdale location for a rebuilt transmission on June 3rd . 2 long weeks later I was awarded with a new transmission, but apparently my computer was found to be defective as well - resulting in inaccurate check engine messages. I was forced into a predatory finance agreement 1 week before my vehicle was returned to me on June 13th. Not only am locked into an unfair (10% compounded monthly) loan, just 2 days later, the check engine light came back on. Over the course of the next 3 months, I have had my vehicle in their service bay for a total 45 DAYS! 45 DAYS and the computer is still not fixed. Just because they were paid on their end it seems they do not care about following through and standing behind their work OR their suppliers. I feel I am being held hostage - they have my vehicle and I am paying a ridiculous loan for a vehicle that I cannot drive. Never has Hector initiated a phone call to provide me with an update. Always when I call, the fault is someone other than AAMCO. Today is September 16th and it is still not done. "Maybe by the end of the week" A half a star would be more appropriate.

I was having issues with my transmission and I drove my car to Aamco transmission to have the transmission checked and rebuilt.I have a 2001 Acura CL that they rebuilt the transmission and upon rebuilding the transmission they called and told me that something kept blowing the cruise control fuse. Then they told me a had an electrical problem, "I told them I didn't have one before you all worked on my car. They told me that I need to come pay them and get my car and take it to someone that do electrical work. I went and paid them $1673.04 and had to get my car towed to my house. I cannot start my car, I jumped my car and when I tak the jumper cables off the car shuts off with no power whats so ever. the manager of the place told me if I can prove that they caused the problem "I will take care of it".Desired SettlementI would like for them to pay for my car to be fixed rewired or whatever people have to do with it because right now my car will not start.Business Response On September 3 2013 we did an external diagnostic service on Mr. [redacted] 2001 Acura 3.2cl. It had an oxygen sensor code(o2s 2 1 heater circuit), 2 transmission codes (mechanical fault in hydraulic system, linear solenoid short or open) and an electrical code(ELD high input). The ELD stands for Electronic Load Detector. Prior to the rebuild we told Mr. [redacted] that he had other codes other than transmission codes. After the rebuild when we road tested the vehicle the battery would not stay charged. When we called Mr. [redacted] to tell him his transmission was rebuilt and working correctly we explained that he needed to have the electrical issue diagnosed and corrected. At which point Mr. [redacted] became irate and used profanity multiple times. We attempted to explain the problem to Mr. [redacted] but there was no reasoning with him. Finally A woman by the name [redacted] (who identified herself as his mother) called and asked if we would deal with her on the vehicle and not to deal with Mr. [redacted]. Even though the car had the ELD code prior to the transmission repair, we told [redacted] to take the car to an electrical specialist to check the car out and if the electrical specialist can find where Aamco Transmissions caused this issue, then show my technician what we did. Then we would pay for the repairs associated with fixing it. our offer still stands that if an electrical specialist can identify where aamco transmissions caused this problem then aamco transmission will pay for the repairs

Brought my car to them to fix the leak, found out the following day the car was still leaking. They said I could take my car to winterville location[redacted] AAMCO 560 Fenner Rd Rocky Mount, NC6/8/2016Customer request: Fix Oil LeakPaid $237.02 Found out the ext day the car was still leaking. Could not return with car because I had nobody to bring me back for a second round of repairs. I asked if it was alright to take my car to the winterville location being that it would be easier for me to get back and forth. Permission Granted.[redacted] offered to return $20 and the cost of the speedo ring $1.13 and 2 new band adjustment nuts $3.50[redacted] AAMCO 4050 S Memorial Dr Winterville, NC6/23/2016Customer Request: Fix the SAME leakPaid $156.06I was told that the pan gasket was to tight causing a leak which either wasn't caught at the first location or or it was tightened to tight by the first location.Leak was still not fixedIn our emails I was even told they didn't even address the leak issue on my second visit to aamcoDriving my car back to Winterville the starter fell out of place.I was told they never touched the starter.Desired SettlementI would like my full refund. Nobody should expect to take their car anywhere and leave it for days only to have it returned twice with the same issues and maybe additional issues. They did not offer to pick my car up although they knew I was driving from a distance to bring them my car. The president of the winterville location said I was being unreasonable but If I was told that it would take 3 or more attempts to fix the same problem I would have chosen another company that customarily fixes the issue correctly the first time. I asked both locations to simply "fix - the - leak" Leak still exist. If you can't do the work just tell the customers that.Business Response We fixed two transmission leaks on Mr. [redacted] 1971 ford. At that time the were the only two transmission leaks we found. There was motor oil leaking and running back onto the transmission. When the car went to winterville they found a pan leak and the speedometer gear housing was damp, they corrected the speedometer housing leak at no charge to Mr. [redacted] and replaced the pan gasket. I offered Mr. [redacted] a refund for the speedometer o-ring and labor to install the o-ring but never discussed a refund for the band adjustment nuts. In closing my offer still stands for the refund that was originally offered to Mr.. [redacted].Consumer Response They offered to refund me $20 which would be mostly burned on my drive to their location. They did not fix any leaks because if they did I shouldn't have found the same leak the next day. I didn't ask for a refund until I took my car to the second location with hopefully better technicians and they didn't fix the problem either. Another issue is either the 1st location didn't look thoroughly enough or they overtightened the pan gasket that I was charged for at the second location which still ultimately did not fix the leak.I wasted a lot of time money and gas to get one thing fixed. The offer of a refund of $20 is just an insult. Final Business Response My original offer still stands I would be glad to mail the check to Mr. [redacted].More Information Received From the Consumer(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I went to both locations and paid almost $400 dollars to get the leaks fixed. That is all I asked and it was not completed at either location. If you pay for a hamburger and a chef makes you a spongecake it would be ridiculous to pay that chef for their labor or ingredients when you didn't get what you requested.

AAMCO charged me for a repair that did not fix the original defect, vehicle has been brought back 4 times, still not resolved!I paid for a reconditioned transmission and a rebuilt torque converter for a Nissan Pathfinder costing $5,000.98 in March of 2015. I have returned this vehicle that still suffers from the original defect 4 times over the last 11 months. The store manager is named [redacted] who I have spoken to numerous times about the repair. My vehicle is currently at AAMCO (since Feb 1) and is still not functioning. At this point I need a fully functional vehicle with an extended warranty or my money back to get the repair somewhere else. I have contacted the AAMCO Customer Service Line and spoke with a representative at extension #225, still no resolve. The same answer I always get is its Nissan's fault. But I did not pay Nissan to fix the vehicle, I paid AAMCO. It appears that they are simply trying to buy time for the warranty to run out so that I do not get my money back and still have a defective transmission.Desired SettlementI would like to have my vehicle repair correctly with a new warranty to ensure the repair actually worksBusiness Response I contacted the Jacksonville AAMCO franchise who confirms that the vehicle is back at their location for additional warranty repairs. According to Jacksonville AAMCO, they have already agreed to extend the original 12 months term of their express warranty by an additional 6 months in order to allay some of the consumer's concerns. In addition, Jacksonville AAMCO is currently providing a no charge internal examination of the transmission and will replace all internal transmission components requiring replacement at no charge. Jacksonville AAMCO further asserts that there have been wiring repairs previously performed by some third party to this vehicle that resulted in blended voltage of transmission and ignition wiring that could continue to affect the performance of their reconditioned transmission and they have advised the consumer that their transmission warranty does not cover electrical malfunctions unrelated to internal transmission components. Jacksonville AAMCO will contact the consumer when their repairs are completed. Feel free to call me with any questions.[redacted]Director, Consumer SupportAmerican Driveline Systems Inc.[redacted] XXXXXX-XXX-XXX-XXXX x221XXX-XXX-XXXX FAX[redacted]@americandriveline.com

We took our truck to Aamco orange ave. there was a slipping when you took off, thought it may be our transmission, well we got a break, it wasn't the transmission what are the chances that some how the truck was in 4 wheel automatic I guess we accidentally hit the [redacted]. Now I know this day and time a lot of shops would have took advantage of us but not these folks, they were honest and they fixed another issue they seen we got out happy and the truck is running great. I would recommend these folks to repair your vehicles and you can count on honesty, courtesy and nice folks to work with. Thanks Aamco
