Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: This complaint was 6 months ago and was closed - they never fixed my initial issues and continued to harass me with phone calls. I have located another company to support my computer.  Please have them remove my phone number from thier list and or database. I consider this case closed.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I am happy with the work that has been done to clear up any technical problems that I have. I would recommend this to my friends.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I never contacted these peopleor went on lineBefore 8/17 I never knew who this Geek Support Live was.Again we both thought they were from [redacted] and was told [redacted] uses their services.  Thinking that all along.Near the end of all this I was told to get an envelope and mail them a check NOW.  Could of stopped that sooner.  They were tossing me from one phone person the next when I said I was leaving they would yell no wait.Being asked my age and why I don't have the money.Again if they have $400.00 of mine they need to return that plus $1500.00 for harassment and duress.  Do that case closed. From Monday until now I have already spent to much time on this.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am...

rejecting this response because: This company did call me unsolicited, misrepresented themselves, and tricked me into allowing them to remote into my computer. I did have some doubts but I was told over and over again that my computer sent a report to them about viruses found on my computer. After they were not able to prove they were with [redacted], a sale-lady name Pauline then provided me what she called their certificates as proof that they were a real company. I asked why [redacted] name was not on there and was told they are a subsidiary. I asked why the paperwork did not say that? Pauline then proceeded to tell me what a great offer she was providing me and she did type a document in Notepad. I did not save after booting her from my computer and contacting Revdex.com.I received many calls from this company coming from an unknown number. I have provided a screenshot of all the unknown calls that came after I hung up. After not responding to any of those unknown calls Pauline then called me from a [redacted] number. That number was ###-###-####. My cousin [redacted] was present for that last harassing conversation and hear Pauline price go from $600 down to $300 as she tried to convince me that what they were offering was a good deal. My cousin can be reached at ###-###-#### or [email protected] Again I have included the screenshot and the alleged certificate. Unfortunately the notepad document could not be recovered.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Revdex.comID#[redacted]Dear [redacted]:After the work is done on customer's computer, if there is still some issues on the computer, customer can always call us and our technician will be happy to work on the computer again. However, for any reason should, customer want to cancel the support plan, they can get...

it cancelled by calling us. We request customer to call the number that she has been provided by our technician.Respectfully yours,Customer ServiceGeek Support Live

Revdex.comID#[redacted]Dear [redacted]:We have issued a $[redacted] refund to this customer.  Check number [redacted].  They should receive it shortly. After a long investigation its not our fault or the customers fault.  I want to explain very briefly that when this customer paid with her credit...

card and after many calls with her issues our staff who were notified it was impossible to help because we closed down this merchant account and once that's done no one can reissue a refund. We are sorry it took so long to clear this matter up but she can be assured we receive many who ask for refunds after we help them to take care of their computers, so without going into a long discussion, if she wants us to help in the future we will be happy to do so.Thank you for your patience.Respectfully yours,Customer ServiceGeek Support Live

Michael was very business like, spoke clearly, slowed down his rate of speech when asked.

Dear [redacted]On July 7 Mr. [redacted] did not receive a call from us...

but from someone with an intention to dupe him by making false statements. First, we never ask for banking information over the phone, secondly, we are not shutting down and thirdly, we did not charge $293 t[redacted]s. He has been misled by someone else for which we are not responsible. We ask our customers to never let any unknown person get on their computer online and call us when they need support, however, [redacted]s seems to have given access and thus, got duped. Moreover, we had already issued a refund of $200. We request [redacted] to contact our customer service toll free at [redacted] and we shall be happy to go over his account with us. Sincerely yours,Customer ServiceGeek Support Live

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
1) That is absolutely not how the caller introduced the call. As I said, the call was introduced as "This is [redacted] support services" and at no point was "Geek Support Live" mentioned until much later in the call when--because I believed that the caller was intentionally misrepresenting themselves as a [redacted] representative--I prompted the caller to identify what company she actually represented. There are many other consumers (as you can see via a quick and casual web search, or looking at other complaints here) suggesting that this company is probably a "[redacted] scam" and that they are misrepresenting themselves as [redacted] when they are not. In fact, even a strict "AND"-style search with "geek support live" and "claimed they were from [redacted]" in quotes has some results, so other consumers also clearly believe that the business is claiming to be from [redacted]. I believe they are intentionally misrepresenting the identity of their business, as part of what is commonly referred to as a "[redacted] scam". As such, an internal investigation is unlikely to resolve anything.
2) Many, many, many, many, MANY companies offer a "free service" as the initial part of a sales presentation, only to follow it with asking for a the consumer to pay a fee for an additional service. This is called the "foot-in-the-door" technique, and has been well known to the public since the 1960s. To say there are no other companies that do this is ridiculous. Further, it is painfully easy to search the web for the phrase "[redacted] scam" and find that other businesses have existed following PRECISELY this pattern: "Free diagnostic tests" after misrepresenting themselves as [redacted], and then asking for a fee to use tech support services. So to deny that other businesses offer these "free diagnostic tests" is completely bizarre and ridiculous.
Regardless, my point is still precisely that this was part of a sales presentation and should have been identified as such. You cannot simply refuse to follow federal regulations by refusing to identify sales calls as "sales calls". It is irrelevant whether your existing customers are happy. You cannot make new sales calls to individuals who are on the Do-Not-Call Registry, identifying your business as "[redacted] support services" instead of "Geek Support Live", then offering "free diagnostic tests", and then when asked if the call is a sales call, saying "no, this is not a sales call, because the tests are free". That is a sales call, because the goal of the call is to lead (eventually) to a sale.
Your response completely ignores this aspect of my complaint. Your business cannot pretend that your business is exempt from federal telemarketing regulations because your initial offering is free, and only later followed by the rest of the sales presentation.
You say you offer "free diagnostic tests" but I suspect they are not particularly diagnostic. They are more likely misleading in nature, such as having consumers load event viewer--"eventvwr"--and scaring them by demonstrating that they have numerous errors in their logs. The claims surrounding the tests make their nature more suspicious: The caller said that she could detect trojan viruses on my computer over the phone using simple techniques that she could guide me through but that major brand-name anti-virus programs wouldn't be able to protect me from those same viruses. That seems unlikely at best. If there was a simple technique that could do that, then the major brand-name anti-virus companies would be able to exploit those techniques to identify the viruses and the protect my computer from them.
I have, on that note, now filed two complaints with the FTC as well as my complaint here.
First, I have filed a Do-Not-Call Registry violation, as my number is on the registry and your business ignored that.
Second, I filed an additional complaint with the FTC regarding the fact that this business is misrepresenting the identity of the business and that they are not identifying sales calls as "sales calls" when specifically asked. I hope other consumers do the same.
Meanwhile, the business's response is inadequate. An internal investigation is unlikely to change anything, and they ignored most of my complaint. I believe some external force will likely need to step in in order to change the structure of this business, since my complaint can probably only be resolved if the fundamental nature of this company is altered.
Sincerely,[redacted]
