JustAnswer website said it was $5 to ask a legal question with no additional fee. I did not agree to a monthly membership, yet charges of $53 started showing up on my credit card. I had to dispute with my credit card company as these charges were not authorize and I did not sign up for a membership.
Hello T,
Thanks for letting us know about this. We're sorry for any confusion about the payment for the site.
The membership charge amount and information is presented to all customers on the payment page prior to entering any billing information. After the question is posted and the membership is agreed to, we send a receipt E-mail, as well as a payment reminder E-mail, 3-days prior to the recurring billing. The membership bills at the end of the 7-day trial in order to avoid an interruption in service.
In looking at your account we can confirm that your membership was turned off and the 3 most recent membership charges on the account have been refunded. You can come back at any time to post additional questions but you will be asked to post a deposit on a question by question basis moving forward.
Please reach out to us if you need any further assistance and we're happy to help in any way we can.

I am rejecting this response because:
I only authorized a $5 charge to ask a question, not to a membership. I received no notice from your company that you would be charging me $53 per month. You fraudulently created a membership account using my credit card, and I was not aware until I saw the charges on my bill. There are five (5) months of charges, so while I appreciate you refunding three charges, there are still two more to be returned.
Sincerely,
T*** C
Hello T,Thank you for getting back to us about this. We apologize for the miscommunication.4 of the charges have been refunded by our Customer Care team. The 5th charge is unable to be refunded at this time as it appears that you've already initiated a charge-back for this transaction. When this occurs, your bank or card issuer holds the funds until they complete an investigation. This investigation depends on the card issuer but it can take anywhere form 30-120 days.
At this time, all available transactions have been returned. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.Regards,JustAnswer Customer Care

Then we shall await the outcome of the disputed charge to make sure all five have been refunded.

I signed up for a 7 day trial at $5. The question was not answered at all and so I requested a call. The attorney explained they were not allowed to call so I thanked him and then requested a cancellation. I then realized I was charged $53 after the trial period ended so I immediately chatted with someone online and explained that I wasn't pleased with the answer I recieved and wished to cancel the membership. She apologized and told me that she would cancel the membership. Then a call from an attorney came several days later and she was better at answering my question, but I had already cancelled so I just thought that her response was delayed so I didn't do anything further. Today as I was doing my taxes I noticed that I have been getting charged $53 per month since August 20, 2019. I called and they told me that all they can do is refund me for the past 90 days. I explained that I chatted or spoke to someone in August and that the membership was supposed to be cancelled and they claim they have no record of that, even though the first employee that took the call claimed there was a record of an online chat around that timeframe. They can very easily see that I did not ask another question and they still will not reimburse after 90 days. I believe this is a terrible business practice.

I am rejecting this response because:
My question was not answered at all within the 7 day period and your rep extended my timeframe for the call. I then said to cancel and she assured me they would. I only received 1 email from you on August 20, 2019. I have zero email after that and therefore I thought my membership was cancelled. I will take the next steps necessary.

On Feb. 29, 2020, I could not open Google, my usual computer search engine. Using Internet Explorer I reached Google to ask for help in correcting the situation. The Google website offered help through JustAnswer and for $39 they would reload Google for me. This were unsuccessful and then the "chat" was disconnected. They tell me that somewhere in there I signed up for a trial membership with a 7-day cancellation that expired before I knew they had charged the membership to my credit card. I called JustAnswer and got a woman whose accent I could barely understand. Although she was very nice all she told me was basically "let me tell you how this works." In other words, I was out of luck. I have started a dispute of the charge with my credit card. I also tried again to contact JustAnswer online and when I explained that I didn't sign up for a membership and wanted a refund, I was referred to a "lawyer" and for $5 I could "chat" with him to try to resolve the issue. Of course I did not get sucked into a further scam.

Good morning,
I was looking for legal advice and signed up for Just Answer to answer my one question. I have used this company in the past with no issues.
I was in contact with one lawyer in which he answered my question. I signed up for the $5.00 free and yes, I should've seen that it was a free trial and I did not which was by good.
I did not notice I was billed for $55.00 on 2.16.2020 and another $55.00 on 3.16.2020. I called Just Answer today 3.17.2020 and spoke to a representative named Abraham.
He wasn't helpful. He kept putting me on hold.
I finally asked to speak to a supervisor when I told him I couldn't possibly be the only person having this issue with billing. He told me sorry, but he couldn't do more for me, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. He put me on hold again. When he came back he said he apologized the supervisor is on another call with a customer. I told him there has to be more that one supervisor to help me. He further stated no one was available and someone would call me back. I have not received a phone call. This was extremely professional and unbusiness like.
II'm requesting a full refund of the hundred and $110.00 because I feel that the trial of $5.00 is just a gimmick whick looks like a scam to get people out of their money. Once they have the desired result from doing business it's like just answers holding on to people and their money hostage with no way out and left with a bad feeling of doing further business with them.
I am not satisfied with Just Answer's Customer service.

Hello ***
Thanks for getting in touch with us about the recent experience. We're sorry to hear that the site did not work out for you. We wanted to address a couple of the concerns that you had expressed.
First, we are not based in China, we are a US company based in San Francisco, with a call center in the Philippines. We have had a lot of new agents coming into the team recently and there has been some turn over tied to the global pandemic, but we will review your call with the Customer Care agent that you spoke with to make sure that things were handled correctly.
Next, we can see that the $59.00 charge that was processed was actually for a phone call with the attorney. As you never used the phone call, this charge was refunded the same day. You can still speak to the attorney, free of any additional charges, through the web-portal by navigating back to the conversation page:
***
We can also confirm that your membership was turned off the same day that you opened your account. You will see no further charges unless you decide to post a new question to the site.
Hopefully I've addressed all of your concerns but please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need any further assistance.

This business is what we call in the detective world "Bait and Switch". They lure you in with language that make you think you are getting a trail run for an answer online to your question for only $1.00, even if the answer does not resolve your issue, and that it will be refunded to you if you are not satisfied. But, what really happens is they charge your credit card for a membership fee that you did not know about, and had not received notification of until it's on your credit card statement, because it is hidden in the language of the terms and conditions, which they know the vast majority of people will not read or understand. And when you contact them online to resolve this you will need to give your credit card number again for just a nominal fee of $1.00.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to talk to a real person, that person is more than likely located in a foreign country like India, who has been trained to make circular arguments until you hang up the phone in frustration.
A detective, or police officer, who handles fraud cases will not be able to do anything other than tell you that it's a civil matter. The best way to resolve this is to contact your credit card company and have them file a dispute on your behalf. If you do not take action the company will again charge your credit card for the annual membership fee without your knowledge. The outcome may not go in your favor, but it is better than trying to deal directly with companies like this who are not concerned about customer service, but more concerned about making money by deceptive means. Unfortunately these type of online service companies, which are so call "legitimate businesses" are becoming all too common with shady business practices.
If you can't learn from your mistakes, learn from the mistakes of others.

I asked one question and was for the most part satisfied with my answer however I didn’t want the membership and I was charged 29.00 for this twice. I saw my bank statement and decided to give them a call. Well. When I called the first time I was hung up on in the middle of my sentence, and then the second time the lady was more helpful but told me she would cancel my membership yet she couldn’t refund me either of the charges. This is ridiculous, for something I used one time I had 29.00 ripped twice from my bank account and I’m extremely dissatisfied with the impersonal attitude of the first representative. I sadly don’t have names, but I don’t appreciate being scammed out of my money for ONE question. It seems that they’re happy to keep all the money they manage to swindle.

I was signed up for the service without knowing it. I realized this when I got my credit card summary at the end of the year. They claimed that I signed up for it last July but I have checked my email and I see no verification email, and I do not recognize the question that was asked. They refused to provide a refund even though I did not use the service.

Beware about being unwittingly sucked in $46/mo membership.
I was working on my income tax and noticed 6 months of charges from JustAnswer.com. Apparently I unwittingly used their services twice, both times thinking I was talking to Apple or Amazon, for free. Neither question was answered correctly. They slipped in on those calls and that led to them surreptitiously signing me up for membership at $46 per month. They claimed that they said I could have 7 days free membership but would then have to cancel to avoid being charged monthly. I have absolutely no recollection of this and would never sign up at those prices for such poor service. I also would not knowingly agree to a 7 day membership since that sounds phony. When I called to complain the person I talked to had such an accent it was hard to understand. Possibly that is how I got roped into the membership. I do give them credit for canceling my membership and refunding three months worth, leaving me out three months. I think they are slick and practiced about fooling customers into signing for a membership. I also think that something is fishy when I think I am talking to Amazon or Apple and they sneak in on the conversation.

I cancelled trial membership but they still charged me. They told me the cancellation didnt go through. They didnt reconsider my request and they always shut down chat on me even im not finish talking. The reason I didnt continue my membership was im not satisfied with the service. And became worst when I contacted support. I tried to explained but they just leave the chat support without solution. I believe they need to consider it knowing it was a technical issue with the website when I attempted the first cancellation.

I used them for assistance with repairing a Printer. I asked over and over about how much they were charging for the service. The Tech I talked with said "one dollar". on follow up with them they explained that it was $1. Trial Membership. There was no mention of this at the time of service. Now on 3/9/20 I was charged on my Bank Account $46. and that this was a "Monthly" service charge, repeating every month. I called them to cancel and complain about this. Unknown if they are going to cancel this account.

Terrible customer service. I was less than 24 hours late cancelling my membership and they refused to give a refund. They are sneaky in how they charge and their emails go straight to your spam folder so you will miss them and they will be able to charge you. I just received a text that my credit card was charged $28.00 by just answer for a service on 3/14/2020. I have no idea what this is for. I did authorize a $1.00 on 3/5/20. I did not get an answer for my problem. I did not want to pay the outrageous prize they were going to charge me for their service. I canceled out of their site thinking Only $1.00 would be charged to my cc which was back on 3/5/20 Like I said I did not pursue an answer from them and that was suppose to be the end of it. I am not happy that they went ahead and charged me later for their service that they did not provide.

Hello *** I am with the
customer care team at JustAnswer. I received a copy of your complaint
filed through the Revdex.com and I’d like to help with your
concerns. Firstly, I am sorry
for any problems you have experienced with our site. After checking your
account, I can see that you signed up for the discounted 7-day trial
membership. As with any membership or subscription trial, if you do not cancel
before the end of the trial, you will automatically be charged for your first
month to avoid any disruption in service. Additionally, we send out emails
welcoming you to the membership and an email is sent before your trial is
ending. Although your
payment is not eligible for a refund under our terms of service, as a courtesy
to you I can see that we have already refunded the membership
payment for you. The funds would have been made available to your
bank the next business day; however, the bank may take 3-5 business
days to release the funds back to your account depending on their policy. I hope that I have
resolved your concerns to your satisfaction. Please let me know if there is
anything else, I may assist you with and I would be happy to help. Best regards, JustAnswer Customer Care

They say the info about must cancel in 7 days is on their webpage, but you don't/or I did not really see their webpage. Click on something and all of a sudden you are "talking" with someone.
Time to close the complaint. Time for you effort. Very much appreciated.
