On 10/29/19, my 2 dogs died from a freak accident involving poisoning. I was very distraught. I contacted Justanswer.com to ask a question for $5.00. On 10/30/19, my credit card was charged $5.00. Curiously, and one must wonder if dubiously, the $5.00 payment was charged to my card as follows: five charges of $.10 each, and one charge of $4.50. Why not simply one $5.00 charge? Most egregiously, their website says you have a 7 day free trial. I did not "opt-in" for a 7 day free trial, nor was I notified by any person with the Company that I would be charged a monthly membership fee. I have just learned that, from 11/5/19 through 2/5/19, I was charged $29 each month, for a total of $116.00 in "membership fees." I called the company, and a representative told me that I've been receiving monthly emails every time my credit card was charged. I have gone through all of my emails, both in my "inbox" and "junk" folders, and I have never received monthly notices that these charges were occurring. By keeping my credit card on file and charging me for unauthorized services, they have committed theft. Furthermore, their website is very deceiving. This needs to be addressed. I demand reimbursement, as I never authorized this company to use my credit card. I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General.

I was directed to JustAnswer seeking an answer to a question I was googling....on Feb 18th, I agreed to pay Just Answer $5 for a “7 Day trial membership” allowing me to ask a question. I sent specific questions and information to justanswer. Based on the answers I received, I realized that JustAnswer would not meet my needs so the trial did not work out. On Feb 22 (5 days later) I cancelled my “Trial membership”. Knowing I did my due diligence, I expected that to be the end of it. Then 2 days later (Feb 24) I received a $28 charge on my credit card for a membership. I spoke with just answer customer support and they advised me that the membership billing was automatic after 7 day trial. I explained that I cancelled before the 7 days, but they had no response to that part. I am seeking a refund of the membership fee ($28). Also, I was not informed in any of the email dialogue about the pending charge when I spoke with customer service. They also state on the site that you will get an email when your 7DayTrial comes up...I got no notice( tho, I was well aware of the date) I contend that Just Answer is engaging in a number of unethical practices, requiring positive confirmation to NOT bill and they are not informing the customer of this "detail" but instead relying on people being unaware, not informing customer of trial ending, not even email to acknowledge my cancellation, charging people’s account after the fact for “membership” they don’t want, and then try to justify by irrelevant “talking points”...They have a horrible, unethical customer service and is really a scam that relies not only fine print in the billing to make money rather than be dedicated to provide the service they are stating they provide, but even when you “play by their rules” they don’t abide to them and hope you are either stupid or don’t notice that they are ripping you off!!

I am rejecting this response because:
It does not address my issue at all...
The membership was cancelled BEFORE the trial was up and the charge was AFTER the trial membership was cancelled by me!!!
I wrote to them 2 days before the trial was up stating to “not charge me the membership charge in 2 days...and cancel me now!”
They did cancel me right then BUT then took the $28. Out of my account 2 days later anyway.???
How does this make sense....and this has nothing to do with their “Auto-response....” they just gave... grrrrr
They NEED to put the $28. Back into my account...It’s robbery!
Sincerely
Hello,
Thanks for getting back to us about this.
There appears to be some confusion about the timing. The charge for the membership was processed on 2/22/2020 and we received the first message form you the next day on 2/23/220 claiming that you had just been charged.
We will make an exception in this case and have issued a refund for the $28.00 charge back to your card. We hope that this solution is in line with your expectations but if you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach back out to us.Regards,JustAnswer Customer Care.
I signed up for a free 7 day trial. I was charged $42 for a recurring charge. I contacted the company to file a complaint. I was routed to a HVAC specialist. I would like to shut down the account and be reimbursed.

The website is a scam. They gave me bad legal advice, auto-enrolled me in a membership, then refused to refund me when I found out just how bad the advice was.

I am rejecting this response because:
The membership is "agreed to" through deception, the emails show up as spam, and getting that refund is like pulling every single tooth out of your own skull. Every Revdex.com complaint I've seen is about this. The policy needs to change, not just my particular refund.
Sincerely

I contacted them for advice about a radio that stopped working. It was supposed to have been a $5 charge for the advice.
Now I found out that they have been charging me $46/month ever since, for a "membership". I contacted them, and they said they would cancel my membership, but wouldn't refund anything. They claim that I signed up for a free trial, and they sent an email after to verify. I was unaware of signing up for any ongoing service, and I checked: there was no such verification email.
Please share this post with others, so they are forewarned of what to expect if they contact this company! If you've used their service in the past, check your bank statements!! You could also be getting charged monthly fees without your knowlege!
My complaint is about legal advice they had free trial for 7 days. I cancel the membership in October 2019 they took $28 off my debit card. November cam just answer took another $28 again I called them and told them I had cancel the membership in October they assure me they will cancel and make sure they wouldnt take any money off the card. Well... December came they did it again,I call again same answer, again in January 2020 I called again asking them why they still take money off my card when I cancel back in October, November and December and now January and Febuary. I called my credit union about the situation they cancel my card so they stop taking money off my card. I like you to ask them for my refund for those 4 months they claim they had cancel my membership.

Firstly, I am sorry for any frustration you have experienced with our site. it looks like we did drop the ball with the cancellation here. I hope that I have resolved your concerns to your satisfaction. Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with and I would be happy to help. Best regards, JustAnswer Customer Care

Also provided are instructions on how to cancel. Additionally, we send emails that outline all of the benefits of the membership plan. This company has been charging me 46.00 a month for an entire year when I never authorized them to access my account for such subscription. I engaged them to answer one question, which they did not answer. When it attempted to send me on a labyrinth of screens just to answer that one question, I terminated the transaction. They refuse to refund me when I contacted them after my surprising discovery. I do not work and I am on limited income.

Requested trial membership for $1.00. After trial of 7 days it becomes a paid membership. Was not notified of end of trial and only discovered I had supposedly agreed to continue when $28.00 charge appeared on our non-profit's credit card statement. Now I can't even access the My Account features to cancel the membership.

I asked a phone call question on 27 May 2019 and paid the money for the call. I did not know that I was signing up for a subscription to Just Answer. I received neither email confirmation of the subscription, nor a receipt, not any kind of notification from them. Since May of 2019, I have been charged $46/month. I just called customer service and they told me they would cancel my membership but that I would get no refund. This is really messed up and they should improve communication with customers about new subscriptions and refund to those customers who were not notified they were being subscribed. I'm sure I'm not the only one taken in by these bad business practices.

I asked a question in December 2019. I was then signed up for a subscription at $60.00 per month. Received a charge in December of $60.00. I spoke to Albert on January 27, 2020 the day after receiving my bill. I cancelled the service that day. Then I received another bill for $60.00 on my February 2020 bill. I called today once again and they said I did not cancel in time. Therefore, I was charged and additional $60.00. According to my statement they charged me additional $60.00 on January 24, 2020. I requested a refund and they said no. As far as I am concerned, I will tell all my family and friends to NEVER use these people because in my mind they are thieves. I do not know how morally they can justify stealing from people.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. However, for your information, I was not contacted by email prior to the new charges. as you have suggested. Thank you for your quick response.

In Jan of 2020, I called "Just Answer" fur a question regarding a coin I had. I agreed to a charge of $5. Somewhere, not close to that charge, was, apparently, a notice that failure to officially notify them of my desire to not continue with their services-within 7 days- would automatically result in a charge of $60 to my credit card. I DID NOT agree to any such charge and sometime later, upon receiving an inadequate response to my original question, I indicated I no longer had use for their services. That kind of "If you do not see this notice you will be billed for something you do not want" is or should be ILLEGAL

I agreed to a trail period for $5. I was informed that I would be notified when the trial period expired. I was not. I have since been charged $60 membership fee for both January and February (a total of $120). I never authorized this and never opened an account with this business.

I signed up for a trial for $5 to answer a question. I was then unknowingly charged $40 per month for three months. Once I noticed this in my account I immediately called the customer service number. I spoke with someone and they told me they couldn't refund any money to me even though I was not using the services. I requested a supervisor. After holding a supervisor told me the exact same information. I let her know I hadn't received ANY emails from the company stating information about the charges or my membership. She said she still couldn't refund me any money. The customer service was disappointing. I could understand if I had used the services but I paid $120 for one question. Seems pretty expensive. And I didn't ever receive any answer because I didn't even know I had a membership past the 7 days. I just want my money back that I didn't know I was spending on something I didn't use.

I paid for a one time answer of $5.00. The company changed my one time payment to a membership and starting charging my credit card $46 per month and will not refund my money. I never signed up for a membership, I agreed to a one time charge of $5.00 for one question answered. I have called the customer service department of the company and the customer service agent will not issue a refund they state that only the manger can do that. They place you on hold and then come back and say a manager is not available but will call you back. I have not received a call back and have disputed the charges with my credit card company. This is a deceptive act by the company.

JustAnswer has falsely advertised their service to me on multiple occasion and when I filed a complaint with the company about it, they cancelled my account. They cited that they can close accounts for any reason. Their customer service stated that I had unlimited use of questions. This is also how it was advertised to me. However an email stated that they canceled my account due to a "Fair Use" clause in their terms of service. There is no wording for a fair use clause in theri terms of service, just that they have to the right to cancel my account at any time. This is also a violation of the Texas Deceptive Business Trade Practices Act for their company, knowingly and willingly falsely advertising their service. It was also stated in an email that their "Fair Use" policy only allows me to ask 21 questions for a billing period. I had not asked 21 questions yet for the billing period at the time of their cancellation of my account. A supervisor, also stated over the phone to me on a recorded line, that the "Fair Use" policy does not apply to the type of account that I had.
Hello,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this. We're sorry for any frustration that you've experienced.
We did reach out to you about the velocity of use of your account with a goal toward arriving at a solution that would allow you to continue to use the service. We reach out to a very small number of customers each year in order to allow us to keep the memberships program affordable for all users. You declined the options that we had suggested and as a result we've issued a full refund for the $5.00 charge that was processed against your card.
The Terms of Service state clearly our ability to administer the membership option as deemed appropriate under Section 9 titled "Suspension and Termination of Service: https://www.justanswer.com/info/terms-of-service#account.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

I see that many other people have had the same problem I am having. I signed up for ONLY $5 [on Dec 2 2019 ] and was not satisfied with your service. I was shocked to now see that you have withdrawn from my Visa $66 Can Dollars Dec 12, Jan 12 and Feb 12. I am very upset and want all of this refunded.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
The company did refund the three month's charges.

We are reporting the site for their unfair and deceptive practices related to canceling of the subscription and false description on the website for simple cancellation.
1. Method of Cancellation - despite many attempts to cancel the service before the trial ended, the service would not acknowledge cancellation until *afterthe trial ended. The cancellation notification receive indicates there are 30 days remaining in the subscription. The credit card company has been notified and the charge will be disputed.
2. False advertising of service (related to cancellation) - the service states that it is simple to cancel the subscription. They even provide an easy to find button to cancel and it comes up on a site search as well. However the button does not work until after the trial subscription end.
3. Pestering by consultant. The question was actually simple and easily resolvable. Providing bad information and continuing to solicit more service is a disgrace.
This is yet another aggressive company taking advantage of seniors.

After checking your account, it looks like you accepted a free trial offer to try our membership program. At the end of the trial, the membership bills automatically to avoid disruptions in service. It is evident that you did not intend to continue with the membership after the trial ended, so as a courtesy, I have opted you out of the membership and issued a refund of the charges. The funds are made available to your bank the next business day, however, the bank may take 3-5 business days to release the funds back to your account depending on their policy. I hope that I have resolved your concerns to your satisfaction. Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with and I would be happy to help. Best regards, JustAnswer Customer Care
Justanswer have stolen $2185.00 from my account without any email notification that I had signed up to a monthly subscription using their $5 promotion. It is daylight robbery. And, yes, I should have checked my monthly statements but I didn't until now when I questioned recently what the monthly deductions of $95. Justanswer refunded 12 months knowing they were in the wrong but they refuse to refund the 23 months @ $95 per month still owing to me.
Justanswer are daylight thieves, be very wary!
Hello Moana,
Thanks for letting us know about this. We're sorry for any confusion about the payment for the site.
The membership charge amount and information is presented to all customers on the payment page prior to entering any billing information. After the question is posted and the membership is agreed to, we send a receipt E-mail, as well as a payment reminder E-mail, 3-days prior to the recurring billing. The membership bills at the end of the 7-day trial in order to avoid an interruption in service.
We can confirm that your membership was turned off and the most recent membership charges on the account wererefunded. you will see no further recurring billing. You can continue to use the website to post questions as you need but you will be asked to place a deposit on a question-by-question basis.
Please reach out to us if you need any further assistance and we're happy to help in any way we can.
