National General Insurance Company Reviews (523)

The customer service is outstandingThere rates are very goodI would definitely recommend National GeneralBoth my adult children use it and as well as my grandson, me and my wife

I want to say that I am surprised by there rates for a driver with three accidents in the last years every other insurance company I spoke with wanted over twice what they charged it was all handle over the phone professionally and I was insured immediately

I discover that my homeowners insurance policy was scheduled to be canceled at the end of my current policy term...NOT from National General itself but via a notice from my bank on our mortgage statementI attempt to call customer service to discover why our policy, paid in full via our escrow account, shows a status of canceledAfter being forwarded multiple times, being placed on hold for minutes, I am finally connected...to a voicemail boxOne positive is that someone did return my callFinally, I discover that our policy was scheduled to be canceled at the end of our current term because a property inspection could not be completed because a contracted field rep could not enter our gated communityPer the field rep's notes, a message allegedly was left for us and because we did not return the call, National General slated us for cancellationOur issues:
#1-The field rep NEVER called usOur home and cell phone records do not show any record or voicemail from a property inspector
#2-The field rep must have attempted to enter our community through a rear, clearly labeled, resident-only gate, because the main gates to our community are open from 7:30a-6p, seven days a week due to ongoing constructionSo I ask, when was this field rep conducting his/her inspection? And why could we not have been apprised earlier of the visit so that we could give him/her access if they were going to visit outside of business hours?
#3-Our bank was notified on 7/6/of impending cancellation of our homeowners policyI discover this insurance issue on 7/11/when downloading my current month's mortgage statementPer the National General rep, a notice is scheduled to be mailed to us on 7/25/Why is the policyholder not notified at least as early as our bank?
#4-The customer rep Lisa made no attempt to apologize; instead, she emphasized that we were at fault due to the gates not being open and not returning a call that was NEVER made to usOnly after I told her that her field rep was dishonest did she abruptly change tune and say the field rep is not a National General employee to which I replied that contracting with them reflects poorly on National General
In sum, if this is how National General treats its customers, I can't imagine what a nightmare it'd be to work with them on an actual claim! We are now switching our home and auto policies immediately!

Good customer service

I'm very pleased with this companyNot only was the representative very courteous and pleasant to speak with he was also very knowledgeableThere was no pressure in purchasing auto insurance he just let me know what they offered which was 40% percent off what I was currently paying with *** The gentleman did mention they offered home insurance and I could bundle to get a better deal on the auto as wellHe already did the leg work for me and gave me an estimate for home insuranceI was intrigued and noticed that they offered more coverage and less pricing than my current insurance ***I went ahead and bundled and ended up saving $1,a year (combined savings for home and auto)I was so pleased with the service I referred there business and the representative to my brother and he ended up getting National General the very next dayI hope this Insurance company remains cost efficient, competent and friendly they'll have my loyalty but, for now I'm totally happy

My experience with National General will be something that I always remember and I will do my best to inform others to stay away from doing businesss with themThe initial start up and rates were great, very smooth process in the beginning and I was extremely satisfiedFollowing that everything when downhillI wanted a month policy to begin with and was coaxed into signing a month policy, not a problem as I planned to stay with themThe problem came when another customer service agent told me that I had points on my license that dropped months from the policy startIn other words if I had a month policy when I went to renew I would be paying less because the points would be goneSo the agent locked me in for months so that my premium wouldn't changeThat was just a small bump in the road, it's a shady way of doing business but I understand the agent makes his money according to the total gross of a policyI could overlook something like this, but what happened next is where the real problem cameI had vehicles on the policy, of which are financed and have to have full coverageI started this policy December 15th, on December 18th my collision and comprehensive were cancelled and I was never informed of itIt wasn't until April 3rd that my financial institution caught wind that the vehicles only had liability insuranceImmediately I called them to find out what was going on, according to the agent he sent out a letter that needed to be signed and returned or they would cancel the coverageI never received anything from the company and e-signed everything they sentIf something was missing one could only believe they would be informed that other documents were neededSo Dec18th the collision and comp were canceled, on December 22nd I called to remove one vehicle and add on a replacement vehicleSomehow I was able to add on another financed vehicle needing full coverage, they went over the deductibles and cost, but never made one mention that the coverage had already been canceledI was originally quoted $a month for two vehicles with full coverage and one with liabilityWhen they canceled my collision and comp they continued to charge the same monthly premiumWhen I offered to get them the document they never sent, my rate went from the original $to $Needless to say I immediately cancelled the policy with themThe agent who canceled my policy was extremely nice to me and his exact words were "I get this exact call 8-times a day." 8-people call this man everyday cancelling their policy because the original quote was no longer valid and the rate had doubledI also had to pay a 10% cancellation fee of the total month premium to get out of itI'm only writing this review to inform people that they should stay away from this company, I can only imagine how horrible they pay if you were to get into a accident

Typical insurance agency Only looking out for their bottom line After an incident involving my vehicle and another vehicle driven by one of this insurance company's customers, it took weeks for an adjuster to even look at the damage done to my vehicle and provide an estimate for repair purposes Please keep in mind that the other driver and this insurance company were deemed 100% liable for the incident and damage to my vehicle I requested that a specific auto body shop handle the repair work; however, this insurance company attempted to persuade me to utilize one of their "preferred shops" located out of town, away from my prying eyes They even offered to tow my vehicle to the shop The reason being...the repair estimate they initially provided me did not cover all of the repair work that was deemed necessary on my vehicle The repair estimate covered the cosmetic repairs and not the fact that there was damage done to the frame of my vehicle and that my vehicle was labeled "borderline total loss" A difference of approximately $1,in repairs, a longer rental period for the vehicle they were obligated to provide me and more of a reason for me to file a diminished value claim If you ever have to deal with this insurance company, stay on top of things and don't believe a word they say

AwesomeAdam was great Will be talking to him in the future for additional business

I do not have insurance coverage with this company, however I was involved in a car accident on March 13th and the ‘at fault driver’ is covered by themI have been working with their claims adjuster throughout the process of having my car repairedThe Claim's person, Amanda ***, was great at firstShe was happy to help me… until it came to my rental car She offered me a rental car on the first phone call I ever made to herAt the time I turned it down because I had something else to driveWe took my car for an estimate the day after the accident and they emailed her the info within hoursI spoke with her every day for a week Every day was the same answer, “the review of the estimate is still pendingHopefully we’ll know something tomorrow.” On March 20th, my situation changed and I no longer had a car to drive to work I advised her that I needed a rental car until my car was completed On March 21st I picked up my rental (Still no word on when my estimate review would be completed So until that was done she couldn’t tell me if my car would be repaired or totaled.) A couple of days later I was finally told that my car would be repaired I called the repair shop but they could not start on my car until April 17th When I told Amanda this she told me they couldn’t keep me in a rental that long I found another repair shop that could take my car on April 4th This is where my true frustrations began Once Amanda learned that my car would not be worked on until April 4th ( this conversation was on March or 23rd) I was then told that The car was approved for a day repair and that I could only have the rental car for business days from the day I first got it I was in total shock #at the time of the rental you didn’t even know that was car was going to be repairedMuch less it would take “days” #2: Twelve business days from the day of the rental put me turning the car back in before my car was fixed
She advised me I could turn the rental in now and re rent it on April 4th when my repairs started or I could keep it now and turn it in after business days I chose to keep the car to try and find another form of transportationAmanda also informed me that I needed to call and see if the body shop could go ahead and tear my car down because if they found something more my car may still be totaled
I called Amanda back a few days before my business days were up to explain to her that I still needed a car to driveMy car was no finishedI did not have another way to get from Sumter, SC (home) to Columbia, SC (work) on a daily basis The body shop even called her to advise that it was not ME, the customer, who waited until April 4th to bring in the car it was THE BODY SHOP who was BUSY and not able to start my car until that dateThe body shops, and I, were told that there was nothing they could doThe rental had to be turned in And “The rental car policy was not something to be taken advantage of by the customer or the repair shop” SO I have been without a car since April 6th at 8:00amMy car is still not completed (today is April 10, 2017)
I understand if things happen and as a customer service rep there is nothing you can do But the lack of empathy shown to me was unacceptable Once Amanda found out the car would not be worked on until April 4th her attitude towards me and the situation changed completelyEven the owner of the repair shop, who called and tried to have the rental extended a few more days (3-more days), was floored by the way she acted and her complete lack of concern for the customer There was no longer a desire to help or even attempt to understand I have not heard from her sense so apparently she really does not care if I am working or sitting at home unable to do anything I attempted to file a complaint directly to the company but there is not an easy way to do that by phone or online

My Dodge Ram was involved in a four-car accident in which the at fault driver was insured by National GeneralThe experience has been terribleFirst of all, it took forever to get an adjustment because I had to take pictures, in my time, of my vehicle rather than National General sending out an adjusterWhen that process was finally complete (there were some technical issues) I was told to bring my vehicle to any shop near me and National General would send me a check for the estimated cost of repairsI had to call them to ask about a rental vehicle, which they said they would coverHowever, when I dropped my vehicle off they had reserved a standard carPerhaps not law, but it's pretty typical to receive a vehicle equal in class to your ownI ended up getting a Jeep Patriot and was content with that
If those had been my only concerns -- I would not be writing this review BUT
I received a call from the body shop letting me know that they were waiting on the insurance to readjust the vehicle because the total estimation did not include some necessary partsThe body shop called me multiple times to tell me they could not get approval from National GeneralFinally, they did and finished the repairsThe whole process took almost a month and not once did National General call me in regards to it
MEANWHILE -- my rental vehicle company called to alert me that my rental was expiringI called National general and got a voicemail -- the person handling my case was on vacation so I left a voicemailTo this day, I have not gotten a call backMy repairs finished, after the rental date, and I immediately picked up my vehicleNow National General is refusing to pay the rental for the extra days needed for the repairs (because it took them forever to get the vehicle readjusted (which, by they way, they did through pictures again), which they needed to do because they didn't adjust it properly the first timeI called and spoke with a manager at National General and he refused to listen or act on my concerns and stated that I would just have to pay itHis reasoning is that they paid days for a day fix (which was adjusted incorrectly AND which was held up by National General!)I asked to speak to someone above him and he said I could file a complaint with the BOI, which I didIt took me several hours to get a hold of the supporting documentation, but I felt that it was necessary after the costumer service and lack of responsibility I was faced with
There is a remaining balance of that I feel national General should pay since it reflects days in which my truck was still being repairedTheir INSURED hit my vehicle -- not the other way aroundI have had to bend over backward to get what is typical from auto insurance companiesAs of today, they are still refusing to pay that amountI would not recommend National General to anyone

I was so impressed with your customer service, Ms Gunkler from Ohio made me feel at ease, answered my questions and made me feel very importantBeing a first time home buyer, I was excited and nervousThanks for your help

I was looking for new health insurance since my coverage from was going to more than double for with my old insurance companyI called United Health Care and some how ended up on the phone with a girl named Rebkah from National GeneralShe spoke to my husband and myself, we told her what we where looking for in our health insurance and prescription coverage, and about how much we wanted to payWe agreed on a policy, and that's when the problems startedFirst when they told us we have to pay our first month up front I said ok, then all of a sudden there is a $application fee added on to our first monthSo we paid the first month and application fee, while this was going on I asked the man I was talking to if I could cancel the auto draft and he said yes, just call and tell them you want to cancel the auto draftHe also told me that I will get an email with an outline of my policy and link to the website that I would have to log in to confirm my signatureThis all happened mid DecemberYesterday I called the pharmacy for my refill and let them know I have new insurance and that I would bring in my pharmacy information when I come to pick it upWell having worked in a pharmacy for years I knew what information I needed to locate on the card, so I pull out my insurance card I just got a couple of days before and to my surprise there is no RX info on the cardSo I call customer service they then inform me NG DOES NOT OFFER PRESCRIPTION COVERAGE!!! I am on a medication that I cannot stop taking, so I call the pharmacy they tell me its going to cost me $for my medicineSo I started calling around and found a pharmacy that I could get my medicine from at a reasonable priceSo I call NG today about the auto draft and come to find out I can not cancel this, they do not allow payments to be made onlineThe only option I have is to call them every month and pay before they auto draft it out of my account or change my due date to the 1st of the monthAnd I told the guy when I look online it say you are going to charge me more than what I was told my policy wasHe was rude and said you see the $application fee, that was a one time chargeI said they why is it still showing on my bill? They do not offer reference numbers for phone calls, only the name and date of who you talked to, I all so write down the timeI have worked in the health care field for 10+ years and this company has rubbed me the wrong wayI am at the point I want to cancel, and pay the fine for not having health insurance

Talking with customer service was a knowledgeable professionalThe price was far better than the more known car insurance company's

I had a great experience getting my new insurance set up The person I dealt with was very professional and tried to find me the best deal possible

So far so good - I would recommend !

DO NOT PURCHASE ANY POLICY FROM NATIONAL GENERAL INSURANCE FOR ANY OF YOUR AUTOMOBILES OR MOTORCYCLESI was involved in a motorcycle accident on 6/1/and I had full coverageI was cut off and avoided the vehicleThe evasive maneuver caused the motorcycle to fall on my leg and break itSurgery was done to my leg to fix it and I stood a couple days at the hospitalI called NATIONAL GENERAL while I was at the hospital to report the accident and file a claimThey were quick to call back and say they will not cover my medical bills or my property damageI understand in Florida PIP is not required for motorcycle insurance but atleast cover my property damage since the motorcycle is financedTheir excuse was I was not the policy holder and full coverage is a slang termI told them how can they use “slang terms” when it comes to legal documentationThey had nothing to sayI also asked them how am I not a policy holder if I’m the only registered owner of the motorcycleAll they can say is they are not covering meIn the state of Florida if you are a registered owner of a vehicle or motorcycle that is financed you need to be a policy holder and have “FULL COVERAGE”All they want to do is point the finger and not take the blame cause if they would’ve ran the VIN of the motorcycle before they insured me they would’ve known I’m the registered ownerThey keep mentioning under signing and other legal terms that I have no interest in listening tooLet’s not mention that their customer service is horribleJohn *** spoke to me with an attitude, I thought you were suppose to trust your insurance and feel confident that they will take care of youNATIONAL GENERAL DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEYI wish I would’ve read the reviews on Revdex.com before purchasing a policy with themMost of the reviews are negativeI’ve gone back and forth with them and it has gone nowhereI’ve also contacted a attorney who stated that NATIONAL GENERAL INSURANCE IS IN THE WRONG AND THIS ISN’T THEIR FIRST LAWSUITI just wish they would’ve took care of me instead of piling more stuff on me especially on top of the pain I’m already going throughWhoever is reading this STEER CLEAR OF NATIONAL GENERAL INSURANCEI WILL NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONEI WILL ALSO LET BROKERS AND MOTORCYCLE DEALERSHIPS KNOW ABOUT NATIONAL GENERAL’S SCAMS

I’ve been more than satisfy with my experience with this company to dateGlad I made the switch from those other insurance companiesWon’t mention their names

National General Insurance Company provided me very excellent customer service on my first RV We just sold it and cancelled the insurance policy We are purchasing a new RV and will purchase RV insurance for that unit from National General Insurance Great Company

If you want reliable insurance for your vehicles, do NOT pay for a policy with National GeneralPay premiums for 10+ years and file claim for a totaled carA month later, not one update, lien holder cannot get information and 20+ voicemails to agent, supervisor and manager have went unansweredRun while you can!!

The fact that I cannot see my documents online is bafflingI literally have to get on a chat with someone in order to get my documentsGood luck getting a timely response from anyone eitherI was on the chat for well over an hour to get one document one! The website is useless and so is their customer support
