I signed up for a free 4 week trial, then put the school on pause but they re-activated my account & charged me $70 even though I canceled during tria
I started a free trial with Shaw Academy for 4 weeks, . By week 3 I paused my schooling then after the pause trial was over I received emails from the school again, immediately I went to cancl my account. I did so, and they even sent me at the last page to call a phone number to speak with their "Student Guidance Managers" Suprise surprise! You don't even get to a human being. Their "Guidance Managers " are automated,at least that's from my experience. Well they went ahead to charged me $69.99 Anyways! Even though I did cancel! That was the last but of money I had, and they took it. Sad to say this the 2nd time they ripped me off. I sent them an email requesting that they refund me,and claimed they looked into it,and they told me NO REFUNDS. But they assured my account was canceled and no more charges would be made. Then they told me I'd get 6 months schooling free to make it right. Huh? Free schooling on a canceled account? How does that work? These people are rip-offs, taking money and providing absolutely nothing
Desired Outcome
I'd like to receive a refund of $69.99. Free schooling won't make this better. Ive been ripped off before by these people and enough is enough

I request Shaw Academy to cancel my account and fully refund me $69.99
Hello,
I signed up on 6/30/2020 for a 1-month free trial. But when I by accident clicked a button it automatically charged me $69.99 fee. I immediately contacted the customer service and emailed back and forth with Sebastian several rounds. Though he offered me longer subscription but I really do not want to continue. In fact, till now I did not start any online learning in ShawAcademy. I explicitly told him to cancel my account and refund me fully, but he refused to do it. Finally I have to file a dispute through my credit card company. Yesterday I talked with Trever on phone and he agreed to refund me and gave me this email address. Thank you very much for the help in advance.

I was charge 69.99 when I had attempted to cancel before trial end date but their system did not allow it until after the end date.
I entered a 4 week free trial on 06/29/20 and attempted to cancel on 07/25/20 but the code I was given to use to call in to cancel did not work. I had to attempt to cancel again and the code only worked after the trial end date resulting in me being charged $69.99 from my debit card. I contacted Shaw academy and informed them of this but was told that I could not be refunded because I canceled after the trial end date even though their system did not allow me to cancel before.
Desired Outcome
I would like to be fully refunded the amount I was charged of 69.99 since I was unable to cancel due to their error.

This was a FREE trial and I canceled well within the 4 wk trial. I was charged the day I canceled. Getting my money back is a legal obligation, not a good-will gesture. Nothing this company has done is good. I did get my money back after a claim with my bank, a Revdex.com claim, at least a dozen emails with no purpose except for Shaw Academy to twist facts, and me posting bad reviews. I also had tk to cancel my credit card so they don't charge again since they are known to do that. I learned that from the 1000 plus people in the Facebook group discussing how they have also been negatively impacted by Shaw Academy.

This has been a time-consuming, awful experience. I have bills in limbo as I wait for my new cards because I canceled mine because of what I have learned about Shaw Academy. There is nothing that can be done. Your words are hollow and only given in hopes that someone who reads them will be fooled. I am done. This is my last post. Revdex.com please close this out. I will not respond again. I will not accept any rebuttal.

Hello..really appreciate your assistance..
Got the refund that they have promised..
Other than the unauthorized purchased, it could have been a good experience and lesson.
I got a free trial subscription with Shaw Academy, 30 days free trial, they took my card information, I cancel two days after, and no refund given.
I got an online subscription on Friday July 24, 2020 with Shaw Academy, free trial for 30 days, they took my credit card information, I start receiving emails from them, telling me to choose the live online lessons, I picked two days Monday July 27, 2020 and Friday July 31,2020; on Monday I received a call from a foreign number, it was a lady and she said the purpose of the call was to gave instructions to take the online course, I told her why the caller ID did not show a United States number, and I ask her the place she was calling from, she said from South Africa, she seems very nice and said if I have questions call her, however she did not gave me a local number to call. My course supposed to be on July 27, 2020 at noon, I received a link, and at noon I was sitting in from of my computer to take the class, however that page seems weird, it was unresponsive, and I start suspecting of an scam. Then I immediately start the process to cancel the subscription online, which was very difficult to do, however I went to the end, and the cancellation appears valid on the screen, and I will receive a confirmation of the cancellation by email, I never received the email, and my surprise was that my credit card was charged for $69.99. During my subscription process I took a picture of the screen where clearly say that they won't charge me during the trial period. They said you won't be charged if you cancel before Aug 24, 2020.
This is an SCAM company, and something has to be done immediately. I am sure there is more people in the same situation. Please help me and help the community from scammers like this company. Thank You.
Desired Outcome
Complete refund of $69.99 plus interest incurred in my credit card

I subscribed to the 30 day free trial. I was not interested in using this program from the very first day and unsubscribed but was still charged.
I subscribed to the 30 day free trial on July 1. I was not interested in using this program from the very first day after realizing it was not what I wanted and was harrassed with messages and emails to attend classes which I never did and unsubscribed from emails and blocked messages. This morning I wake up and I have a 69.99 fee which I understand should have not been charged because I never used their services and was unaware that the charge would occur. I called their number and you can't even speak to someone live but a machine that takes 10 minutes of your life to allow yoh to cancel. I want my money back.
Desired Outcome
I would like my money to be refunded back because I did not use their courses and blocked them from the very first day. I was able to cancel my account but was not given the opportunity to speak to someone as they state on their website.

I paid for a lifetime membership and then was kicked out of my account and told it does not exist. I have been charged $105 CAD.
I have no log of this interaction as they have charged me for this service, kicked me out of my account and said it doesn't exist and never sent me a conformation of purchase. The only proof I have is my bank statement.
July 29, 2020 POS Purchase
OPOS SHAWCOURSEACADEMY NEW Y - 105.00 CAD charged to Business account debit Visa
I found this complaint from another person filing against Shaw Academy, this is the exact situation that happened to me. I have zero record of this purchase other than on my bank account. I can't even login to the account, it says it does not exist even though right after my credit card was charged I signed up for a class and saw that the email on the account was ***@madisonreitzdesign.com. After I left the browser window, I could not login again, it was as if it never happened other than financially.
"I was signed up with Shaw for the nutrition program. I received a text that I could sign up for a lifetime membership at 95% off regular price and it would include a membership for a friend. I was ecstatic and took advantage of it. Well, I thought I did. I was charged and did not receive the lifetime membership or the link for my friend. I reached out to Shaw support and keep getting the run around. Even though I sent them the screen shot of the charges and all the information I had. It's been 2 weeks now with no resolution. I am very frustrated and irritated. I feel as though I got swindled. Then to add insult to injury. I keep getting texts to sign up for the lifetime membership."
Desired Outcome
I would like to have access to the account I have paid for as well as a detailed email receipt of what I can expect to receive with this membership and that I can claim against my business expenses.

Shaw Academy utilizes shady practices, refuses to issue refund, refuses to cancel my membership, and lies about dispute resolution. Absolutely vile
Ticket number for Shaw: XXXXXXX
Problem date: July 27, 2020-present
Purchase amount: $39.95
PayPal transaction ID: ***
I signed up for a free trial of a Shaw Academy creative writing course late in the evening on July 27, 2020. Upon arriving to my class page, a pop up ad advertising a "toolkit" came up. I tried to click away from the page and was informed my "purchase was successful." One click purchases? Seriously? And ones that happen even if you don't click on the buy button? I therefore contacted Shaw and informed them I had not purchased the tool kit and politely asked for a refund and they insisted I had purchased the toolkit, then tried to bribe me with a useless free certificate that they somehow decided was worth over $100 like that was what I wanted in the first place. I then filed a dispute through PayPal for the charges and escalated the emails to Shaw Academy. They then informed me that they couldn't issue a refund as long as the dispute was active, which is an outright lie since issuing a refund automatically ends a PayPal dispute. You can see evidence for this on PayPal's website here: https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-issue-a-refund-to-close-a-d...⇄ I also asked repeatedly for them to confirm my membership had been permanently canceled and they have refused to do so. My account has been overdrawn as a result of their unscrupulous actions. I have attached screenshots of their emails to me. I can also attach screenshots of how difficult it was to try (and fail) to cancel my membership myself and show my responses to them as well, if necessary. You'll see in the emails they even had the audacity to complain about "difficulties" for them because I asked for a refund and disputed the charge via PayPal.
Desired Outcome
I want a refund for this unauthorized purchase, and I want it in my account within the next fortnight. I also want confirmation that my financial information has been deleted from their records and that my membership has been permanently canceled. That is the only outcome I will accept.

My account is under my other email. If you search my name, I can assure you you'll find a number of emails to you, emails to which your support person named Paddie has responded. Revdex.com has the screenshots to prove this. Email: ***@g.uky.edu. My bank has now returned the payment and charged me an additional fee because you have refused to refund me and charged me when I didn't have enough funds to cover it in that account. I didn't even purchase the thing you're tying to charge me for. This is legitimately the worst customer service experience I have ever had, and you people should be mortified. PayPal is now trying to charge it again in a few days which will likely mean even more fees for me. Upon another email to you, I was told my case would be passed *** to the appropriate team and have since received no response. Fix this right now. And once again: delete my membership permanently. If I am charged again in spite of having changed my settings to not allow further payments to you, I'm contacting a lawyer and appropriate consumer protection services.

I love it when someone I'm arguing with puts their foot in their mouth in writing. Revdex.com has the screenshots. I can also now add to the screenshots where after some negative TrustPilot reviews and ceaselessly emailing all your known email addresses, I got my refund this morning - sent to the email of which you say you have no record. Strange your company is able to provide refunds to an account you say doesn't exist. All I ask for now is confirmation my membership has been canceled permanently and my details have been erased - is that why you can't find my email, or is this yet another communication issue within what appears to be a poorly managed scam?

The refund is processing and I now have the confirmation I sought.
Tried to cancel my subscription and get my refund but they waiting until it was to late to start the process.
I tried to cancel after my class on July 28th after my last class but they were closed and pulled the money in the morning. I reached out on the last day of my trial and they waiting until the next day to respond which pushed me out of the free time frame. How convenient. I was able to cancell on the 29th but the money was pulled the day before. I had a calander date set so I did not miss it. When they reached back to me a day late they said it was to late to help with the refund which I find hard to believe since they were the one who didn't respond.

They were able to work with me and resolve this manner in a timely fashion.
I understand that this is my individual situation but I would like to communicate it to anyone even considering signing up for Shaw Academy.
I did a free trial that was the length of 4 weeks. I attempted to cancel my free trial before the end of my four weeks but discovered that the cancellation did not process and I was charged 70 dollars.
I reached out to customer service requesting the official cancellation and requested a refund because I did not use the product one time besides to sign up initially.
I was provided the cancellation but was told that I could not have a refund due to their terms and conditions and the free trial expiring. I have never received such service from any other company and never had an issue getting a refund following the end of a free trial, especially for a product I did not use.
I would not recommend signing up for Shaw Academy. They state that the refund policy is in their terms and conditions but, in my opinion, a company that cares about their consumer would not take their money if the customer did not even use the product.
Got scammed by Shaw Academy.
Shaw academy is a huge scam and one that is difficult to deal with.
On July 24, 2020, I saw an ad on Instagram about a free four week trial for a photography course through Shaw Academy. I signed up.
Upon receiving an insulting amount of emails and notifications, etc, from Shaw Academy, I was annoyed and decided I wanted to cancel my free trial. There was no option to cancel online and I was prompted to call a phone number. On July 27, 2020, I spoke on the phone with a guy to cancel my "free" trial. I asked multiple times, turning down his pressures for me to continue the course and give it a try. In the end I was tired of trying to pass *** deals and he offered the module 1 toolkit for free, as well as the certificate for completing module 1. I gave in and he said that I would receive an email about this so I could have it "in black and white", and that it would take about 15 minutes for the toolkit for module 1 to be unlocked. I received no email and module 1 still seemed to be locked until I eventually saw a button that allowed me to unlock the module. Even after this, trying to access any lessons wasn't working, I kept getting directed to other pop-ups rather than being able to see the lesson that was supposed to be available.
This was weird. I was skeptical since I still hadn't received the promised email and I had to go in and take several minutes to figure out how to access the course materials. My sense that I had walked into a scam was even higher now. I went to check my credit card balance and noticed that I was billed $69.99 (CAD) for a month subscription. I had never made any purchases and this was supposed to be a free trial. I emailed them right away to request a refund and cancel my account.
On July 28, 2020, I received a response saying that I had been charged since I did not cancel my subscription before the end of the four week free trial. My trial began on July 24, 2020, and I had tried to cancel on July 27, 2020, and now July 28, 2020. They said they could not give a refund but were offering six months free, valued at $399. This makes no sense. I responded I wanted a refund and after for my subscription to be cancelled and never to be contacted again once this was settled.
On July 29, 2020, I received their response. They apologized for their mistake about the subscription, and said that I was actually charged for unlocking module 1. They said they could not give a refund and AGAIN restated the previous day's offer, along with saying I could unlock module 2 immediately without charge. I have not and will not. In both emails it was also stated that they can confirm my membership has been cancelled and that I can be sure no further charges will occur. Yet I am still getting bombarded with emails and since I hadn't logged off of my account, can still see that it is active. LET ME RESTATE that there is no way to cancel online or erase my credit card information off the site. I have responded again that I want a refund, my subscription cancelled, and after this is resolved to never be contacted again.
We will see how this pans out, but it will end with my requests satisfied.
Desired Outcome
I would like a full refund for the payment of $69.99 that I did not authorize. Then I want my subscription cancelled before the end of the "free" trial and all my information, including credit card information, out of the system. Finally, after this is settled I don't want to be contacted by Shaw Academy ever again, in any form.

I canceled my subscription with Shaw Academy and received an email to verify the cancellation. They charged my credit card three days later.
On July 22, 2020, I called to cancel my account with Shaw Academy (via automated system). On the same day, I received an email cancellation confirmation from them (which I have attached). Today, I checked my bank account and saw that Shaw Academy had charged my credit card for $69.99 on July 25, 2020.
I called (the first time) at 4:47 PM EST, and the automated system did not give me option to speak with a person. (Note: Keep in mind that, according to a recording, their hours are 9 AM-5 PM EST M-F.) I called multiple times (six in total) and was directed to the automated system each time. The first two times I called, my call was dropped when I dialed "0" (in an attempt to speak with a person). When I called back and dialed "4" to cancel my account, I went through the cancellation process a second time (since July 22, 2020).
I called back again because I still wanted to speak with a person regarding a refund, so I pressed "0". This time, I was told to enter my student ID (which I cannot find on my student account and there is nowhere on their website that tells you where to find it). I checked my account and could not find it. The last time I called (at 5:02 PM EST), a recording played that stated their business hours had ended and that I would need to call back "during normal business hours).
I made the previous six phone calls BEFORE 5:00 PM EST.
Desired Outcome
All I want is a refund of $69.99 to my credit card, removal from their email and text (i.e. all correspondence other than addressing this complaint) lists, and assurances that there will be no further charges from them on my credit card.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept their response because I cancelled my subscription three days BEFORE they withdrew the funds from my credit card. I cancelled my subscription in advance to avoid a charge. The fact that they made getting in touch with a person to discuss this is borderline malicious.
I did my due diligence. I cancelled my subscription three days before the funds were withdrawn. There was no reason to charge my card, then make it impossible to contact a person (after I discovered the credit card charge).
In their "response", they mention their terms and conditions regarding the "auto-renewal option" and cancellation.
Here is their section regarding cancellation:
"Cancellation: You can cancel your Shaw Academy membership at any time. If you want to enquire about a payment made on your account, please contact us at: ***@shawacademy.com. To cancel, login to your Members Area and click on the profile icon to access your student profile section. Under the Membership and Payments tab you can click on 'Cancel Membership & benefits' and follow the prompts. You will receive a couple of alternative options such as Pausing your membership or opting for a lower price plan. For a specific subset of students, you may be prompted to complete cancellation over the phone using a free phone number presented to you. You will be able to access recordings of classes you have attended to date but no future upcoming classes and you won't be able to add a new course. If you signed up to Shaw Academy using your account with a third party as a Payment Method and wish to cancel your Shaw Academy membership at any time, including during your free trial, you may need to do so through such third party, for example by visiting your account with the applicable third party and turning off auto-renew, or unsubscribing from, the Shaw Academy service through that third party.Cancellation of a lifetime account does not entitle you to a refund without cause. Whilst we do not provide refunds or credits for any partial membership periods or lessons or Courses, please contact us at: ***@shawacademy.com"
Here are the "Billing Cycle" & "Payment Methods":
"Billing Cycle. The membership fee for our service will be billed on a on a recurring basis in accordance with your membership plan. You will be billed to your Payment Method on the calendar day corresponding to the commencement of your paid membership. In some cases, the timing of your billing may change, for example if your Payment Method has not successfully settled or if your paying membership began on a day not contained in a given month.
Payment Methods. If a payment is not successfully settled, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not change your Payment Method or cancel your account, we may suspend your access to the service until we have obtained a valid Payment Method. You authorize us to continue billing the Payment Method, as it may be updated and you remain responsible for any uncollected amounts. This may result in a change to your payment billing dates. For certain Payment Methods, the issuer of your Payment Method may charge you a foreign transaction fee or other charges. Check with your Payment Method service provider for details."
There is no mention of a time frame in which I must cancel in order to avoid a charge for the following month. In fact, their terms and conditions state, "You can cancel your Shaw Academy membership at any time." Although their T&C does state that "we do not provide refunds or credits for any partial membership periods or lessons or Courses," that does not apply to my case. I cancelled my subscription - I will state again - three days before the next billing cycle, so this does not qualify as a "partial membership period or lesson or course." In fact, you state, under the "Membership" section of your T&C, "Unless you cancel your membership (which I did on July 22nd) before your payment date (which was July 25th), you authorize us to charge your membership fee to your Payment Method (see "Cancellation 5.3" below)." Therefore, based on their own terms and conditions, the charge was unauthorized.
All I want is what I originally requested: a refund of $69.99 to my credit card, removal from their email and text (i.e. all correspondence other than addressing this complaint) lists, and assurances that there will be no further charges from their company (or any affiliate or subsidiary of their company) on my credit card.
I am not requesting anything unreasonable. Had I cancelled my subscription on the day of the charge or afterwards, I would not have filed this complaint. I did what I should. My hope is that they will do the same.
Thank you.

I would like a further statement from Shaw Academy ensuring that they will also stop automatically taking money from my account. They only mentioned cancelling my account, but with their unclear business practices, I would like to get a specific statement from Shaw saying they will stop withdrawing money from my account and will destroy my account information.
Thank you

I just clicked the "Get 4 weeks free"(cancel anytime) and register an account on Shaw academy website on July 15,2020.Moreover, I viewed only two class video during 2 weeks, but I got a call from Shaw academy yesterday(7/28/2020), he asked me how about the class and said many words. I just told me I readlly didn't understand him totally, I hanged up the call, them I received an email for Paypal and it showed the Shaw academy charged my Paypal $99.95.I'm so shocked. The Shaw academy charged without my agreement, I didn't purchase the courses on Shaw academy, I hope the Shaw academy can refund my money. Thank you so much!

Hi ***,
We are sorry that you had to go through this entire ordeal. Please be assured that your account has been deactivated. Please let us know if there is anything else you need assistance with.
I was give the runaround trying to cancel my trial and was charged $69.99 USD while trying to cancel my account.
I signed up for a the free 4 week trial to gain some basic knowledge about Graphic Design; I did not want to continue with the class after the trial. I had issues with Shaw Acadamy's website not letting me into one of my last classes and then when I tried to cancel I found there were multiple steps including making a phone call. I tried to cancel on Sat July 25 (with 2 days left on my account) but was "told" by their website that I needed to call a phone number and was give the business hours (M-F) so I took that to mean I wouldn't be able to reach anyone on the weekend. When I was finally able to call I was harassed by a robot having to repeatedly select 2 to show that I truly wanted to cancel my class. I also found out I had been charged $69.99 USD on Mon July 27 while trying to cancel my class. I want my money refunded. I was happy with the business until this mess and runaround. Cancelling a trial should not be this complicated nor should I have to endure harassment when I wish to end my trial.
Desired Outcome
I want Shaw Academy to refund my $69.99 because I was trying to cancel my trial with reasonable time. Had their cancellation process been more clear or streamlined, my trial would have been cancelled promptly. This information about the difficultly of cancelling was not readily available at the beginning of my trial; had it been, I would have cancelled immediately.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I attempted to cancel my subscription within the time allowed. Shaw Academy required multiple hoops to jump through and far more steps than reasonable to cancel this subscription. They also led me to believe that I could only contact their office during certain business hours; I later found this to be untrue but that was after my account had been charged. Had I known I didn't need to wait for the listed hours, I would have cancelled on Sat July 25. Because I was led to believe that I had to wait, I missed my window to cancel my subscription and was therefore charged for something I did not want and had taken the steps allowed to me to cancel it. I see that Shaw Academy has refunded other people so it is possible for me to have my refund as well. I was charged because Shaw Academy was egregiously unclear about their processes and misleading about finalizing the cancellation. I want my money back because I was led to believe things that were not true which cost me my money. Shaw Academy's answer does NOT resolve my issue; I want me $69.99 back.

Got the refund that they have promised..
Other than the unauthorized purchased, it could have been a good experience and lesson.
Thanks!
Thank You.

I would like my money to be refunded back because I did not use their courses and blocked them from the very first day. I was able to cancel my account but was not given the opportunity to speak to someone as they state on their website.
I have reviewed your account as well as gone through your complaint. We would like to bring to your attention that the amount that has been debited from your account is for auto renewal of the course since you failed to cancel your account within the trial period. The auto renewal process is clearly mentioned in the terms and condition that you initially agreed to. we request you to email us at ***@shawacademy.com for further assistance.

I signed up for free photography classes with Shaw Academy. I was unable to access the course or my account, yet they took money out of my account
I tried a few times to log in but to no avail. So, when I kept getting texts I replied Stop, as offered. I did not authorize a charge to my account. I am unable to attend any courses thru them as I am back to work.
I just want a refund

Hi ***,

The resolution I would like to see if a full refund of my $69.99.
Hi ***, We are sorry to let you down with this experience. However, we would surely want to help you with the same, As we have reviewed your account we see that you have been charged after the 4-week free trial which is as per our policy and we have no records of you requesting us to cancel the membership before the date/time of auto-renewal hence we request you to kindly provide us with any details or screenshot related to this issue which would help us know that you had contacted us in anyways on time so that we can help you with this issue and get this resolved ASAP, Kindly provide details through Emai- ***@shawacademy.com

I would like a full refund for the payment of $69.99 that I did not authorize. Then I want my subscription cancelled before the end of the "free" trial and all my information, including credit card information, out of the system. Finally, after this is settled I don't want to be contacted by Shaw Academy ever again, in any form.
We are sorry that you had to go through this entire ordeal. Please be assured that your account has been deactivated and we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3- 5 business days. Please let us know if there is anything else you need assistance with.

All I want is a refund of $69.99 to my credit card, removal from their email and text (i.e. all correspondence other than addressing this complaint) lists, and assurances that there will be no further charges from them on my credit card.
Hi ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged $69.99 USD for the purchase (Shaw Academy Premium Membership - Monthly Subscription) made via our Auto-renewal option, As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non-refundable charge hence we would not be able to refund that amount, Our intention was not to upset you in any way.
With Regards,
Shaw academy

Impossible to cancel membership, no working phone number, false advertising by this business.
Student # *** , they have my debit card information and will not confirm cancellation, just a non working phone # and a cookie cutter repetitive email.
I want cancellation proof, so when they charge my card I can dispute it.
