Impossible to cancel subscription, met with harassment.
Shaw Academy does not allow cancellation of services. They are un-contactable, and have a scheme of harassment for anyone trying to cancel. Website leads you through ten pages of "do you want to cancel" choices, and then ends with a phone number to call. The phone number is an automated services that doesn't allow you to cancel. They harass you into keeping your account because its literally impossible to cancel, there is NO OPTION.
I've reported them to my bank as a scam and blocked payments.

Desired Outcome

I want my account cancelled and any payments refunded.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 15, 2020

Cannot cancel trial account.
I registered just this month to see if they have a good online course. However after just watching 2 videos I decided not to continue. I immediately tried to cancel my account but it keep saying that I need to call their hotline. As I'm doing this, their hotline is always busy no matter what time of day or night. So here I am struggling to cancel my account to avoid payments since I have no plan to use their lessons. I even emailed them several times but no one responded. I think they are scamming people by not providing easy cancellation method, it's like robbing you with your credit card information.

Account name: ***
Email: ***@gmail.com

Desired Outcome

I want to cancel and remove my account and details from this company.

I signed up for a "free" class just to find out that it wasn't free.
I signed up on 7/4 for a free class in photography, they were advertising on Instagram and literally was charged 3 days after. I tried to call, but the number is not a working number. I am a furloughed consumer, looking to make the best of my time, and this company took money out of my account with no remorse. I had to email them letting them know that they advertised for a free 4 week class that in fact isn't free. There was no mention of any trials. I find this to be very condescending. They get you rolled in and then it's a tennis game asking for a refund and letting them know you are no longer interested. I've contacted my card company to let them know what happened and filed a dispute. Restassured this issue will get resolved and the more people I can get to understand the scam the better!

Desired Outcome

All I want is my refund and my email and information removed from their system.

We have reviewed your complaint and the conversation with our support team. We noticed that your first dispute was against the transaction done on the 7 July from the card ending with 9739. This payment was charged as you had activated the premium subscription which was later refunded even though this is a non refundable charge as per our terms and conditions. After this we do not see any other transaction on this card. Please be aware that this transaction is associated with the email [email protected].

After your second complaint we tried to match your info and found another account associated with the email [email protected]. There is a transaction made on the 28 July but the payment was taken from a different card ending with 5921. This payment was process as monthly subscription fee as the account was not deactivated within the trail period. We also noticed our support team have initiated a refund for this transaction as well.

I cancelled my membership before the end of my 4 week free trial yet I was charged for a premium membership and I am being refused a refund.
I signed up for a free 4-week trial of a social media course on the 6th of May and called up to cancel my trial on the 2nd of June, I spoke to a lady called 'Fatima Fortune' on the phone who cancelled my membership and insisted on crediting my account an extra 30 days free to complete my course which I did not use as I was not happy with the course, yet she confirmed that my membership was cancelled and after the extra 30 days I would not be charged anything. This occurred on the 27th day of my 4-week trial period. Therefore I cancelled before the end of the trial period and should not have been charged. I received confirmation over the phone and via email to confirm that my membership had been cancelled (See screenshot). Then, later I check my account and see that I have been put on a premium account without my consent and I am being charged £49.99.

In addition to this, the money was taken out of my account prevented me from making an important bill payment. As you can imagine it has been a very difficult time financially with the impact of Covid-19 leading to myself and many others being out of work for an extended period of time and still having bills to pay so this has been a very stressful situation for me which I have tried to resolve with the company directly over email and they have refused to refund me and have instead offered more free months access which I do not want as I previously stated I do not want to continue the course and truthfully I do not trust them at all and would not be surprised if they attempt to take even more money from me under the guise of 'free access', so the only resolution I want at this point is a full refund.

As a consumer I have every right to trial a product and cancel before the end of the trial if I am not happy to continue, yet this right has been taken away from me so as you can imagine I am very disgusted with this experience as Shaw Academy have taken advantage of individuals desire to learn new skills during lockdown to process unauthorised transactions and take money from many innocent people as you can see when you look up the many complaints about them online, it is clearly a scam.

Desired Outcome

Full refund of £49.99.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The sales representative I spoke to when cancelling confirmed I would not be charged after the extra 30 days she insisted in awarding me and confirmed verbally and via email that my membership was cancelled for good. Otherwise I would have ensured to cancel it again because I did not use it anyway and have no plans to after this experience. Ultimately, from this case and many others who have had the same experience as myself and shared it online it's clear your sales reps provide false information to customers so they end up being charged when all they want to do is cancel their membership and it is unacceptable.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 18, 2020

Hi ***,

We're sorry to hear you were less than satisfied with Shaw Academy.
Having checked our records, we see that you have registered for a free trial and you have not cancelled it on time, so the payment was processed.

I confirm your refund will be reaching your account in 4-5 business days.

We have now stopped the auto renewal and please be assured that you will not be charged way forward until you reactivate it. The membership will be cancelled at the end of term.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I have received my desired resolution.

Shaw Academy took a payment they were not authorised to do so and have ignored numerous emails requesting a refund.
They took an unauthorised payment as they never bothered to remind me the trail was up, like they state themselves in their T&C's on the website. I have emailed them numerous times as I am now unemployed due to the pandemic so really need that money and I am unfortunately getting no response at all. Although they were very quick to call me about selling me a plan and also very annoying with it sending a million emails a day. It's too much! Furthermore even if I did want to pay the subscription and continue, they are not providing me with the correct service as the module 2 course now open to me is for a course I have never even chosen or have any interest in at all. They are scammers! And I want my money back now!!

Desired Outcome

A refund immediately and some free stuff to say sorry for Messing me around and clearly trying to scam me

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 15, 2020

Shaw Academy is a scam. Shady business to trick customers.
I signed up for a class from Shaw Academy on 12 June

When I was about to cancel my account. The website gave me an option to send a reminder email. Of course I opted in. That email never came and I was charged 34.99$ on 10 July. This is a breach of contract. They intentionally didn't do what they promised to charge me.

While I was scrolling the app to look for a "report" or "request refund" option on 11 July. I suddenly was charged 39 Euro for the e-certificate. I didn't click on the option to buy it. I was just scrolling and the transaction immediately go through by just one tap like that. I have no option to cancel or stop the transaction.

I contacted them at ***@shawacademy.com on the same day. I received an automatic email saying they will solve it in 48 hours but it has been 3 days and no one answered me yet.

I researched the issue in the Internet and learned that many people have been tricked by Shaw Academy the same way I was. Please help me fight this and please do not let this kind of unethical business get away with it.

Thank you so much.

Desired Outcome

I would like to get refund. The fee I was charged without my permission 34.99$ and the 39 Euro for the certificate I had no intention to purchase.

Please look at my screenshot again. There were none reminder email. Please provide proof if you did.

Again, please refund me the fee I was charged without my permission 34.99$ and the 39 Euro for the certificate I had no intention to purchase. I was just scrolling my phone. You CAN take back the e-certificate.

I contacted their priority support email and Shaw Academy only used automated response and tell me to wait for 48 hours 3 times on 17, 24 and 25 July. I consider this is a shady practice to let me wait and cannot respond in time for this Revdex.com complaint.

I am trying to cancel my membership to Shaw Academy. I want an IMMEDIATE cancellation and insurance that no charges will be filed to my card.
To whom it concerns,

I signed up for a free trial with my card for Shaw Academy today (July 14th, 2020) and immediately noticed something was amiss. I found an ad through their Instagram account for a diploma for coding, yet when I signed up that diploma was no where to be found and instead I was automatically entered into the "web development" course.

Then, I looked up Shaw Academy and was horrified about what came up. Absolute horror stories of trying to get refunds and getting charged even when in the free trial. I saw petitions, etc. I went to cancel my membership right away and instead it took me through various pages of "are you sure you want to cancel" and finally got me to a phone number. I saw on the reddit to not even bother contacting the number because they just guilt-trip you and redirect you to their email. I have emailed Shaw Academy but after everything I have heard I am in awe of how this company is even allowed to still be in business so I am immediately filing a complaint here.

Desired Outcome

I want an immediate cancellation of my free trial and membership to Shaw Academy. I do not want my account paused, I want a CANCELLATION. I do not want to be contacted by Shaw Academy through my cell phone or email ever again and want insurance of all of this. I do not mean to sound harsh, but after reading through these complaints I think I have the right to be. I am aware that this is not the customer service or people who respond to these emails fault, but the company really should be ashamed of themselves. Get back to me when you can!

They've been charging me $59.99 for 4 months without notifying me. They are charging for a Premium Membership I didn't sign up for. That's $239.96!
I signed up for a free trail in March. I paid to get the certificate but did not finish the class; that's my fault. I'm fine with having paid for that. However, they decided to keep my card info and start charging me for a Premium Membership at $59.99 every month since April. They did not notify me once despite having my email and phone number on file. They were completely taking money out of my account knowing they weren't letting me know. This is theft. They have stolen $239.96 from me. This is ridiculous and I demand a full refund. I called back in April and again today to cancel the subscription because I'm not going to keep being charged for something I didn't purchase. They won't let me delete my card information either so I wouldn't be surprised if they try to keep on charging me. I've reported them to my bank as fraud and to block all future charges. I have field a request via their website, emailed them, called and messaged them on Instagram but have yet to receive a refund. This is absolutely ridiculous, almost $250 just gone because they are thieves!! I never bought a premium membership from them, they just decided to start charging me after my free trial. I NEVER signed up to renew anything though. Thieves!

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund for $239.96. I've been charged in April, May, June and July for $59.99. So I demand a refund for all of it because I've had to call more than once to cancel it, and it is unfair that they even signed me up without notifying me of any charges. I demand a full refund of $239.96 and will pursue this case until I get it.

I cancelled my membership the day that I signed up for classes because I could not fit the course into my schedule and I was still charged 69.99 twice
I signed up and cancelled my account on 5/8/20. I called immediately after I felt the program didn't fit in my schedule. The lady I talked with was incredibly rude and finally after saying I did not want to participate more than 5 times, she said my membership was cancelled. That was not the case at all. My account was charged two more times. I didn't notice the charge for June that was 69.99 but I did notice in July for 69.99. Regardless, I did not sign up for either and have not logged into my account since 5/8/20. Gomes and Richard at Shaw Academy will not defund my money. They also put me back into a free trial program. I feel as though I might be screwed again from that.

Desired Outcome

I want both my 69.99 charges to be refunded.

We completed our courses almost 1.5years ago. We've been requesting for my EQF cert. But shaw says we can't find the record though I have the evidence
I have a lifetime membership with Shaw. I along with my wife & son completed the courses of which I have the evidence. Shaw says they have no records. I sent them the soft copies of the certificate too and requested for hard copies that states eqf level 5 & a verification and a equivalency letter addressed to embassies as I'm applying for immigration. I've explained them already that your systems were updated as I see a lot of changes on your website. So they need to dig deeper. I've been asking for their manager or directors ph # or email & they say we can't. Pls help in exhausted

Desired Outcome

I need our certificates for which we have been waiting for months. I need compensation from Shaw for providing such a disgusting service.

I've emailed *** at Revdex.com the soft copies of my certificates that I was able to retrieve but still need hard copies, the EQF level 5 certificates which is the main attraction, verification and equivalency letter on Shaw's a letter head to be submitted to the embassies across the globe.

Revdex.com if you notice Shaw is inconsistent in their responses. Previously they could not see my certificates, now they can't see that I even ever paid them as if I don't and never existed.
Pls note that I have sent Abby at Revdex.com the soft copies of the certificates issued by Shaw.(Abby can you pls share with all the attachments I had sent) My account status shows active with a lifetime membership purchase.

Shaw is consistently misleading and miss stating the facts. Someone at Shaw must give me a call to talk.

01. It took us this long to actually make Shaw realise that my certs are pending and I do have an account which they denied all this time. Finally when they have agreed I won't say found because it was there all this time. Now they need 02 months to send the hard copies. Sorry not acceptable they need to prioritise and send immediately.

02. They have not sent my son Bradley's certificate I've attached his cert in my previous & current communication.

03. Shaw needs to assure the hard copies being sent will be the EQF LEVEL 5 certificates not the regular certificate.

As you can see its evident that Shaw has a standard reply to most of the complaints they receive and are habitual of ignoring the concerns raised by the consumers. In spite of me reiterating that they read my email and respond according to it. They once again have sent the same reply and as usual using the delaying tactics.
I hope you've notice that they have already bought sometime while you (Revdex.com) endeavors to resolve the complaint.

I signed up for the advertised free trial offer and tried to cancel before the 30 days. Was apparently already charged. Cancelled. Charged again. $140
I fell victim, as it seems did so many others, of Shaw Academy's shady and dishonest business practices. I signed up for the advertised free 30 day trial. As is common, I provided a debit card number, with the understanding that if I cancelled my free subscription before the 30 days then I would not be charged. When I went to cancel my subscription, I was asked no less than 6 times if I was sure I wanted to cancel. I was then told I had to call customer service in order to cancel. The employee then tried to convince me not to cancel, offering me another "free trial" and reminding me that I signed up to better myself. At some point she told me that I had already been charged because I allegedly upgraded my subscription. This is simply not true. I never had any intention to. Therefore, they either created the signup process to be deceitful to trick people, or they are simply lying and only created the "free trial" in order to steal people's money. After expressing my feelings about this, the employee still tried to keep me from cancelling my account. I insisted, and was made to believe that she was doing so. I also insisted that I should be refunded the $69.99 I was charged. However, I was told I needed to email ***@shawacademy.com about my refund. Needless to say, it seemed as if she was deflecting and avoiding me. I then sent an email describing my situation, and was sent an automated email giving me an ID number and telling me I would be contacted withing 48 hours. What is more, the employee had the nerve to send me an email offering me more services and telling me it was a pleasure speaking with me. It will be a week tomorrow, and I have not heard anything else from them. Finally, although I can't say I am surprised at this point, my debit card was charged again for another $69.99.

Free Trial. Charged. Cancelled but not cancelled. Charged again.

Desired Outcome

I would like to be refunded the $139.98 I was charged. I would also like my debit card information removed from their records and my account deleted. Finally, I do not want any further contact with this company.

Did a month long free trial, canceled before the trial date ended. Have received two $69.99 charges since.
I joined Shaw Academy for a month long trial on May 16, 2020. I never used the service and canceled it prior to when my free month was up on June 12, 2020. I received a confirmation email from Kristina L. The email stated "As mentioned on the phone your membership with Shaw Academy has now been cancelled. We are sad to see you go as we believe that you have the potential to achieve your goals." I just logged into my account and it still says that I am "Active" and they clearly never canceled my account.

I only just noticed, but on June 14, 2020 I received a $69.99 charge from Shaw Academy. Then, again, on July 12, 2020 I received another $69.99 charge.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money to be returned to me with interest and for all future charges to cease.

The company has said they will give me $69.99, but they have taken $139.98 from me. When I asked them to please give me back all of the money they took from me they responded that they couldn't do that because I was asking "later." So essentially they acknowledged that I was in the right, that they had mistakenly taken my money but because I apparently didn't catch their thievery fast enough they will not be giving me a refund for the $69.99 that they owe me. This is despicable. This company needs to be shut down.

No. I canceled my account within the four week period and have an email confirming my cancellation. What you people are doing is criminal. I also find it interesting that you have stopped replying to my emails and now only seem to care to respond when you know it may be public. I have contacted both the New Hampshire Department of Justice as well as friends who work as federal prosecutors in New Hampshire district courts. I'm a law student at Georgetown law and have plenty of friends who are interested in this. I hope you enjoy working for a company that robs from people.

Why do you people continue to lie? Your own employee (who I spoke to on the phone and canceled my account with prior to the free trial being over) even emailed the billing department at your company specifically saying I had canceled my account on time and compelling the billing department to give me a response. I want to be able to click 'yes' I am satisfied on one of these, but I refuse to do so if your business will not own up to its mistakes (really they are just lies) and stop blaming consumers for your theft. Let's try one more time!

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 22, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

I was charged $99.95 by Shaw Academy without being informed of the transaction.
I received a call from a number in Ireland on Monday afternoon at 4:20. I answered the phone and was told that the person speaking was my Shaw Academy Course Counselor Jody B.

After asking me a few questions about my experience thus far with my Shaw Academy Graphic Design course, *** informed me that I was eligible for additional services like the toolkit and extra courses.

I expressed that I had no interested in paying more money than I had already and he assured me that I would not. He led me to believe that the additional services would be free and at no point during the call mentioned me needing to pay $99.95 for an upgrade.

When he asked if I approved of the activation, I stopped to clarify again that I wouldn't need to pay any money or do anything else to receive this new access. *** assured me that there was nothing more I had to do. He confirmed my email, asked if there was anything else he could do for me and then hung up.

Within minutes my PayPal account was charged for $99.95 from Shaw Academy and I received an email from *** saying that "As discussed, you have successfully upgraded to a Shaw Academy plan."

I did not request an upgrade, I did not agree to pay $99.95 and I *** did not inform me on our phone call that this was happening.

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund for the $99.95 I paid without my knowledge and I would also like for an investigation of Shaw Academy's business practices on the phone with their customers.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 15, 2020

Hai ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged USD $99.95 for the purchase (Shaw Academy Premium Membership - Quarterly Subscription) made via our Auto-renewal option, As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non-refundable charge, however, as a goodwill gesture, We have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in the next 3-5 business days.

Shaw academy

This company is a scam. They say you can cancel before the end of your free trial but they make it impossible to get out of their programs.
I followed the procedure to have my program canceled days before the trail ended. They made it impossible to cancel it and they have no way to contact them via telephone so you just have to wait for return email. They contacted me after the free trial and charged me $69.99 when they k ow they should not have. They are doing this to several people. It's a scam

Desired Outcome

I want my 69.99 refunded. I also want then to stop scamming others in this way. It's very wrong

I am happy for the refund and I do hope they change the way do things in the future. Thank you

I joined with a 28 day free trial. I quickly realized it wasn't for me. I cancelled well before the 28 day trial was done. I have the phone call from the cancellation to confirm even their representative confirmed this. Months later, I received a $70 charge from then. I emailed with my email copies showing I cancelled before 28 days and they refuse to refund the money. Not only did I have proper documentation, it's even more suspect that it was charged months later, not 29 days later. Stay away from these scammers.

I have cancelled these classes 3 times and have been charged for 3 months in a row $69.99. Cannot reach a person and want refund
I agreed to 2 free weeks trial, I called and cancelled within the 2 week time period and have been charged for the last 3 months on the 3rd of each month $69.99. I have attempted to cancel each month. You have to go through extensive webpage clickings and then several phone calls to finally get a confirmation number that obviously means nothing. I expect a full refund and if I have to pay my bank to stop these withdrawals I expect that to be refunded also.

Desired Outcome

Full immediate refund of $69.99 x 3

I was charged my debit card after I cancel my free subscription before it expired.
I was charged 69.99 fee after I cancel my subscription before the free trial was up. And I have email them many time about this problem no one emailed me back or call me. Plus the number they have online is automatic and I cant speak to a person.

Desired Outcome

I haven't received anything from this business. They haven't called or e-mail me

Shaw Academy charged my account after I cancelled it to make sure I wasn't charged.
I signed up for a free trail with Shaw Academy on 5/9/2020. I called to cancel on 5/15/2020. I received an email notifying me of the cancellation, great. Well, I check my account & realized that they had charged me on 7/09 for $69.99. I was told that if you cancel within 4 weeks of your free trail, that they would not charge your account. I have emailed them & I haven't gotten a response. I also noticed that their contact information has been removed from their website.

Desired Outcome

I would like for my account to be refunded $69.99.

I absolutely did not sign up for any kind of extension. It doesn't make sense for me to cancel within less than a week and then ask for an extension. How am I extending something I canceled? I've had no communications with this company since canceling on May 15, 2020.

I enrolled in a 4 week free marketing course and was billed after cancellation.
I enrolled in a 4 week free marketing course with the assurance that you would not be billed if you canceled within the 4-week trial. I canceled in the 4th week, yet I was still billed $69.99 for the next month. I followed their process for requesting a refund via email, but have not received a response. They do not have a phone number listed, and any phone number I've found online associated with them is no longer in service.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of the $69.99 they withdrew from my bank account after my cancellation.

I canceled 2 classes in; was assured they would not bill me. 2 months later they billed me $69.
I canceled my trial after 2 classes. I called to cancel and was assured it would cancel. I also emailed to cancel. That was 5/19/2020. As of 7/13/2020, I see a pending charge for $69 on my bank account, during a pandemic.

Desired Outcome

Refund the amount and stop doing this to people, and apologize.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I signed up on 5/9/2020. I called around 5/18 or 5/19 to cancel. That was well within the 30 day trial period. Here's the other thing: in order to cancel, you have to be signed up for a class, then go through the cancellation process online, which ends in a page that has a phone number requiring you to call. I cannot get that phone number again, because in order to get that number, I would have to sign up for a new class, give my credit card or debit card, then cancel in order to get that phone number again to call them back. The rep that I spoke to refused to take my account number, just took my name, and said I was confirmed to be canceled.

Shaw needs to produce the recording of the call where I called to cancel. I specifically said I will NOT be continuing with the plan, I will not be taking anymore classes, and to cancel me immediately and in full . The person on the line repeatedly tried to talk me out of canceling, and I repeatedly said to cancel. He confirmed it would be canceled. I then got an email asking why I missed a class. I replied to that email on 5/19/2020 stating: I called to cancel my class and was told that I would not be charged. Please confirm that my membership is cancelled and that I will not be charged in June. the representative that I spoke with spent 10 minutes trying to upsell me to get me to stay, and never asked for my student ID number so I don't feel confident that my membership was canceled. I received a reply from Shaw Academy on 5/19/2020 that states: Hi ***,

Thank you for reaching out to us! Having checked your account, I see that your membership has been already cancelled. Please be assured that you will not be charged for your membership until you reactivate. If the membership is in Non-Renewing status, you can still continue accessing your courses along with the membership benefits until the end of the billing period. *If the last renewal payment is still due to be paid and the system is trying to fetch the payment, please let us know. We at Shaw Academy are doing everything we can to help people all over the world just like you who are experiencing difficulties as a result of Covid-19. From time to time our responses may not be as prompt as usual as we are seeing up to ten times the number of students joining and we are doing our best to help everyone achieve their goals and prepare for this new world. With this in mind we would ask that if you have raised the issue by email/ticket/or any other form that you do not open a second ticket. Rest assured we will action your request. We really look forward to helping you achieve your goals and hope that you understand and forgive any minor delays/issues on our and my part. Your Friendly Neighbourhood Shaw Academy Team.

Screenshots of all of the above are attached. Shaw is lying to take $69 out of my account, during a pandemic, and they are fighting me on it and that's disgraceful. Screenshots of my email to them, and their response confirming that I canceled, are attached. And this was back on May 19th 2020 - it is now July 2020, and they slipped a $69 charge into my bank account hoping I wouldn't notice after all this time. They are shady and are trying to screw over consumers.

It has been 10 days since they claimed they have issued a refund. No refund has been issued. They claim in response to my support ticket that someone would call me; nobody has called. They are now fraudulently claiming that they issued refunds and reached out which is patently false. I have yet to see a penny after this ridiculous, lie-filled situation from these scammers.
