Shaw Academy Reviews (2754)

I entered a free trail, but the business has changed me twice at $59.99AUD each time with any authorisation from myself.
I signed up with Shaw Academy on 6th of July for 4-month "free trial". I remember so clearly that after I logged in the website for the first time, there were so many advertisements popping out regarding the toolkits as well as the e-certificates.

Just like what a normal human being would usually do, I clicked on a button to see what toolkit contained. I then realised that this click costed me $59.99AUD without me knowing what I was purchasing for! This is literally a fraudulent advertising with information imbalance or asymmetry to all the customers. I believe it is by definition what an authorised transation is called.

Surprisingly, on the 8th of July, another $59.99AUD was automatically deducted from my card, without me even having a clue on what had I purchased.

I truly feel this is unfair. It is not what a legit business does to the customers.

I contacted they on the 9th of July for the last time asking for refund, but they refused to do so.

Therefore, I have already contacted my bank to file a disputing transaction investigation towards these two unauthorised transactions and the bank has to cancel and replace my debit card to do so. I lost my time and my card on this issue created by Shaw Company.

I have not received my refund yet, so I am here not only asking for a legit refund but also asking for the business stop taking students money in an unauthorised manner. Besides, I find the company's website is misleading and full of deceptive buttons. Especially those "one click purchase" buttons should be removed.

Desired Outcome

I have not received my refund yet, so I am here not only asking for a legit refund but also asking for the business stop taking students money in an unauthorised manner. Besides, I find the company's website is misleading and full of deceptive buttons. Especially those "one click purchase" buttons should be removed.

Shaw Academy will not refund
on 7/09/2020 Shaw Academy took from 69.99 USD from my account before my free trial was over. I never authorized this charge. Shaw Academy also informed my that they would notify me before they charged my account to give me a chance to cancel. They never did. When I tried to get refund they asked for a copy of my bank statements. I'm not sure why they would need that. I would like my refund.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund without showing my bank statements.

Hi ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We would like to inform you that We have cancelled you subtraction for which you have not been charged this is a auto-renewal purchase Shaw Academy Premium Membership - Monthly Subscription is a paid benefit which is non-refundable as per our policies, Our intention was not to upset you in any way.

With Regards,
Shaw academy

I tried to cancel a free trial with a system that does not work. I was then charged for a random amount with no description of what the charge was.
I signed up for a free trial and after one use tried to cancel. The cancellation process does not work. After making multiple attempts to cancel they still charged me and will not refund me. I have tried to reach out to their customer service which apparently is nonexistent and instead of a refund I have received multiple offers of a longer subscription which I have made very clear I do not want.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of the money that they charged me.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 13, 2020

Hi ***,

I have reviewed your account as well as gone through your complaint. We would like to bring to your attention that the amount that has been debited from your account is for auto renewal of the course since you failed to cancel your account within the trial period. The auto renewal process is clearly mentioned in the terms and condition that you initially agreed to.

As we are unable to find any records of you contacting us to cancel your account, we would kindly request you to share any kind of supporting documents (Email or Call Logs) stating you tried to cancel your account, which would help us in the case investigation and with the refund process. Please email us at ***@shawacademy.com.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My three attempts to cancel during the free trial period led me to additional offers but never took me to a cancel page. It led me to a phone number page with a case number for each attempt. Since I could not get through their process obviously my account never was canceled. Even though I never used the account and never planned to. Due to the continuous bombardment of other offers during my cancelation attempts I could not complete the last step. The amount that I was charged is not even relative to any of their advertised pricing. I have not, nor will I, use their products or services.

I got my money back

Canceled trial subscription IN WRITING within free-trial period, and have been billed full subscription with company claiming I did not cancel.
Signed up for a free trial of Shaw Academy online learning program, company claimed no charges if cancelled within 28 days. I signed up the April 7th, and went through a tedious process of attempting to cancel, the weekend of May 2/3. On May fourth, I finally contacted the company by email (below), and only ever received automatic replies.

"Hello! My name is (omitted) and I'd like to cancel my trial membership before I am billed (supposedly tomorrow). Turns out this wasn't good timing for me to take a course. :/ I was told I had to call to cancel, referencing number XXXXX. I tried calling the number given (XXXX XXX XXXX) both with and without the zero at the beginning of the number, and it was invalid. I searched a number online and was given an automated messaging saying I would need to contact by email, and given this address.

Please cancel my subscription, I will be monitoring my account for charges, as I was told I could cancel any time before the trial ends, without a cost."

June 27th I received a charge for $69.99 which, incidentally, was the first day the debit card I had used had sufficient funds to cover the full-price month subscription. Angry, I continued my earlier thread with the company (with the original, dated email demanded my subscription be cancelled), and after a few days, got my first personal reply, saying unfortunately I had never cancelled. The company would try to make it right, however, by cancelling at that time, and using the charge to cover six months of a subscription. My concern had been given a new query number of #XXXXXXX.

Furious, I responded the matter was not resolved, I had no interest in their product, ever, and that per their own terms and conditions, which the employee sent a handy link to, their charge was not authorized and tantamount to theft. I attached a screen shot of the original cancellation email.

The employee responded the next day that this matter had been referred to the "relevant team," and that they would notify me "at the earliest." Hearing nothing for 4 days I contacted them again saying my next actions would be to bring the matter to the Revdex.com, econsumer.gov, Trustpilot, my bank, and anyone else who would care to hear.

Desired Outcome

I want my 69.99 back.

Thank you for the refund and resolution of the matter.

Once-purchase click bait
The website used the one-click purchase baits "Module eCertificate" that I never receive it to get the unauthorized and unconscious payment from customers.

The date it happened is 8 July 2020, and the transaction ID is 53GXXXXXLKXXXXXXJ with the amount $39.95, paid through Paypal

I am very disappointed and stressful because nobody answers my requests when I mailed to them, and as a result, I have no choice to turn to dispute from my bank and paypal.

Desired Outcome

Just get the refund back right away

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 10, 2020

Hi ***,

I have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged $39.95 USD for the purchase (Module E Certificate) you made via our one click purchase option. As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non refundable charge. Please write to us at ***@shawacademy.com if any further assistance needed.

I want the refund. They tricked customers to lure people to pay what they don't want via one-click purchase. They placed the purchase button in a way that people mostly mis-click and hard to perform the website. Also, the product is not as described fully when purchase. I haven't received anything except a little note to say that I purchased that. Several people also complain about this dirty trick.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 14, 2020

We are very sorry for the inconvenience you faced. However we would also like to bring it to you attention that you have accepted the terms and conditions which clearly indicated about the one-click non refundable purchase. Just in case a customer has failed to see that, we have also added a disclaimer on the banner itself. We are sorry to inform you that the refund is not possible. Refund are given in situation where we as an organisation have failed to cancel the account even after the customer has requested to cancel before the trial period. As far as we are concern we have upheld our part of the contract with you. Unfortunately we are unable to provide you a refund.

I cancelled my free trial and was billed £49.99 and then an addition £34.95. Shaw academy refusing to refund and now ignoring emails
Transaction 9SJXXXXXXFXXXXXXX
Transaction 8WWXXXXXXXXXXXXXR

Both PayPal

Desired Outcome

I cancelled within the time frame and shaw academy said I didn't and then I was billed for another amount after cancellation

Tried unsuccessfully to cancel a membership. Was charged even though I received a confirmation that my membership was cancelled.
Cancelled membership on 6/25/2020 and received an email confirmation on that day stating that my membership was cancelled. 7/2/2020 was charged $69.99 by Shaw Academy.

Desired Outcome

I want the membership cancelled and a refund of $69.99.

Thank you for your work on this issue. I read the response from Shaw and saw that they are going to issue a refund to my original source. However, I had to cancel my bank card (the original source) because Shaw Academy subscription email bombed me. They illegally used my email address to sign me up with over 5,000 spam subscriptions. I received this subscription bomb between 1:00 am - 8:00 am the day that I had sent a complaint to the Revdex.com. After reading & researching subscription email bombs, I thought it wise to cancel my bank card. All of that to say, how can Shaw Academy proceed with my refund since my original source is no longer valid?

Thank you,
-

This company has hacked into my Amazon account and tried to purchase a $2,500 laptop and $175 worth of insurance for the laptop. They also hacked into my Paypal account and purchased a $150 custom shirt. They bombed my email account with over 5,000 subscription newsletter/spam emails.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 31, 2020

We believe that this is a false acquisition. As we do not have any records of suck activities. We would like to go ahead and inspect this for you hence please share the supporting documents which prove that we as an organization or somebody from this organisation has tried to hack your account. You can send us the supporting documents at ***@shawacademy.com.

Shaw Academy deducting money from credit cards using false advertising
I subscribed to Shaw Academy for a Dilpoma In food and Nutrition on 26th June 2020. It was advertised as 30 days free but required my credit card to complete the registration. I cancelled the the course after 2 weeks but found that my credit card had been charged twice, $70.00USD and $44USD. I contacted them through email to cancel my tuition and request a refund. They responded that I selected a "buy now" tab and could not be refunded. They offered additional credit towards duties tuition which I refused due to the skeptical nature of their activity. I again requested a refund and was told that they cannot provide a refund. I cancelled during the first course and within the 30 day free trial period.

Desired Outcome

Full refund to my credit card

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 10, 2020

I have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged 39,00 EUR for the purchase (E Certificate for Professional Diploma in Nutrition Module 1) you made via our one click purchase option. As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non refundable charge, however as a good will gesture I have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

They promised a reminder before any charged were made. My card was charged with no reminder and they are refusing to refund me.
I had a free trial with Shaw academy, and when I went to cancel my free trial, I spoke to an agent who said she would extend my free trial, and before the trial ended she promised she would send a reminder to me to see whether I wanted to proceed with my subscription. I received no contact before they charged my credit card, and when I tried to request a refund, they refused to refund my money. I fully intended to cancel my subscription once I received the reminder promised by the company, however I received no such thing, and now I am having to pay for their mistake.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money refunded as I do not wish to continue any type of service with this company.

I spoke to an agent before my membership was going to be cancelled, and that agent promised to EMAIL me a reminder before my free trial ended. I received no email reminder from the agent or Shaw academy letting me know my card will be charged and my free trial will end as promised. Now Shaw Academy is refusing to address my issue when I email them, and they are making me, the customer, pay for a mistake they made on their end. Shaw Academy claims that "they did send me a reminder" which they actually DID NOT. Please send a screenshot of proof that you have sent this reminder that I did not receive.

1. You are not clearly responding to my query. As mentioned before, your agent promised to send me an EMAIL, not to go on your site to see where I would have been "reminded." I did not receive the EMAIL that was promised to me, and because of that, my credit card was charged, and now you are ignoring my request for a refund.
2. Even after being ignored, I followed the steps you mentioned, and there is no case of a "reminder" that you are mentioning.
3. I have contacted your customer service about this as well and I am being ignored via email.

Please let me know when I can be refunded because this is a mistake made by Shaw Academy. Will you make your customer pay for a mistake that your company made?

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 17, 2020

We have already initiated the refund which should be reflecting in you account anytime.

I wanted to cancel my subscription but they wanted
I wanted to cancel my subscription, yet after a long process of cancelling, in the end you will be instructed to call a number which is not working. I have read a lot of negative reviews regarding payment deductions before the trial period ends, so I decided to cancel my subscription as early as now before I get to be a victim of this scam.

Desired Outcome

I just wanted that my trial subscription be cancelled now and no further amount must be deducted in my account

Good day. Shaw Academy has cancelled my subscription today, July 14, 2020. Thank you for the help.

Signed up for "free" 4-week class that has cost $240 and counting. Cancelled and put stop payment on and I'm still being charged.
I signed up for the "free" 4-week course that's all over their website. Forgot about it, never received any emails, must have put my account info in and forgot. That's my fault, cool I get it. Charged $59.99 on April 15th so I cancel online. Should be the end right? Nope. Charged $59.99 again May 13th. Contact customer service to get a refund and actually cancel the account. Told it was cancelled but they couldn't refund. Whatever, I'll swallow the money... Charged $59.99 June 10th. Contact my bank immediately to dispute all the transactions and get a stop payment on them. ASSURED I won't be charged again because my bank won't let the payment go through. July 8th CHARGED $59.99 AGAIN. Mind you I never received any emails until I messaged customer service.

Customer service rep went nameless and sent me very long email that is too long to paste here back saying they couldn't refund but "took the liberty" to cancel my account (after I asked) and "would give me 6 months free" which I didn't want but whatever sure fine.

I emailed again after the next payment and received no response from customer service.

I tried to access my account to get an account number but couldn't. My email associated with the account is ***@yahoo.com

Desired Outcome

I am looking for a refund of all four $59.99 payments and a stop payment on your end. I never want to be charged by Shaw academy again. (Honestly would be happy if I never heard the name again, too)

Never received the guaranteed email reminder of free trial expiration. Was charged $70 for a membership, canceled next day and they refused refund.
I came upon a free month-trial period and signed up. Like most free trials I had forgotten about it but relied upon their guarantee that an email reminder will be sent three days before it expired in order to cancel. I never received that email and I've checked spam and junk. After being charged the $70 I called the day after to cancel and refund. They refused referring to the terms and conditions, however cancelled my membership. So I paid $70 for 1 day of access to a membership that now doesn't exist. It has been handled like I was baited into something I didn't want and now can't get out of it while they didn't fulfill their responsibility.

Desired Outcome

A refund of the $70 membership I will not be using now that it is canceled.

I telephonically contacted Shaw Academy on the attached number XXXXXXXXXX on 15 June 2020 .
We tried to cancel the membership on the website but it redirects you to call the XXXXXXXXXX number. If I try to contact them now, we no longer able to speak to anyone, its only a voice recording system that directs you but of no help at all.
See my emails attached as well.
Also after they debited my account, I have been sending numerous emails but get no response from them. This is the worst kind of service ever received.
I don't feel it is fair that they get away with this.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 15, 2020

I repeatedly cancelled my subscription and confirmed the cancellation yet they continue to bill me.
I cancelled my subscription after finding it wasn't what I wanted. Finding their cancellation process overly onerous I searched for reviews and found this is a common issue of them not cancelling. I re-confirmed and asked to have my billing information removed to ensure there would be no issue. I was assured it was cancelled. I missed that they have subsequently billed me several times since this.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund and for them to simplify the cancellation process (current process requires you to request a cancellation which then requires you to call with no less than 3 hard sells which finally gives you an email address to cancel) to just be a hard button "CANCEL" which will also remove all billing information.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 10, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
While a hard sell isn't illegal they make it so difficult to deactivate. The process is literally going through a cancel process on their website with three sells of why you shouldn't cancel to finally be given a phone number. The phone number automation gives you three more hard sells to stop you from cancelling only to be given an email address to cancel through.

Reading through other people's issues this company not only makes it difficult to cancel but screws up the cancel regularly anyway. If they can build in the hard sell they can build in a cancel function that also deletes the users billing information so this doesn't keep happening which it does.

I requested after cancelling to make sure it was cancelled and I was assured it was. If you search for cancel membership Shaw academy this isn't a one time occurrence of oops we messed up. It has too
Much of a pattern looking more like an attempt to make it impossible to cancel and bill people even after cancelling hope it slips by. And even when prompted if the cancel is done it is t which was my experience. They should be required to give a delete function that will stop them from billing the user further. I've attached a screen shot of my follow up email back in March when I asked them to confirm the cancellation after reading of the issues people had.

Shaw Academy charged me $69.99 monthly subscription fee even when I canceled their service within the advertised 30-day free trial period.
30-day free trial membership started on Jun 04, 2020, and cancelled on Jul 02, 2020. I was charged $69.99 membership fee by Shaw Academy on the day of my cancellation. When I signed up, Shaw Academy's front page clearly advertised "30-day free trial" (screenshot included). Therefore they should not have charged my on day 29. I have contacted Shaw Academy, but they claimed that the trial is 28 days, not 30. When I show them my screenshot, they never got back to me. But, AFTER our communication, Shaw Academy altered their website and changed "30-day free trial" to be "4-week free trial". Shaw Academy is very dishonest. I feel that their trial is a scam.

Desired Outcome

I request Shaw Academy to refund the wrongfully charged $69.99 membership fee. I cancelled within the advertised 30-day trial period, and should not be charged.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 10, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Shaw Academy,
The screen shot with 30-day free trial advertisement was taken on July 2, 2020, certainly not very old. I contacted the billing dept of your company on the same day via e-mail, and someone replied me saying that the free trial term is 28 days. Then, after I sent him the screenshot, your website magically updated to say "4-week free trial" instead. It seemed that my screenshot triggered the advertisement update. I am satisfied with your gesture to refund. But I think it'll make your company appear much more credible if you would admit the truth, rather than trying to cover up. I wish you good luck.

Requested all info for refund only to stop responding and only after contacting them again did they respond saying we'll give you 6 months free access
Submitted a request for a refund of $69.99 on 7/1 after getting charged after trial period. They responded 2 times the same day asking me to provide the necessary info needed then they stopped responding for 4 days until I sent an email again asking why they stopped responding. They then said sorry no refund but we're giving you 6 months free access. I did not ask for that. Now they won't respond to any of my emails since then. Horrible practice and taking people's money.

Desired Outcome

A refund for the charge of $69.99 to the PayPal account with the same email address. Shaw Account is also under the same email address provided.

I cancelled my acct BEFORE the trial expiredI received TWO emails stating that the account was cancelled then was charged $69.99 the next day.
On X-X-XXXX I cancelled my trial well BEFORE the trial period was over, receiving not one, but two emails from Shaw Academy (attached in jpg format) confirming that my account was cancelled and I would not be charged. Then the very next day on 7-3-2020 (jpg attached) I was charged $69.99 by Shaw Academy. I immediately wrote support and received an email with a ticket number. A week later I still haven't received any contact from Shaw Academy and clicking on the link for the ticket number leads to a dead link on their site. I'm now no longer allowed to log into my account there and it seems to me that I have been stolen from an this crime will not go unpunished. I will do everything in my power to legally hold these thieves accountable for their actions here. Thanks for any assistance you can give me in the matter.

Desired Outcome

I would like my $69.99 returned to my card, an apology from these thieves and for them to be forced to respond to people they are stealing from on what seems to be a fairly regular basis.

Hi ***,

We are sorry that you had to go through this entire ordeal. Please be assured that your account has been deactivated and we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3- 5 business days. Please let us know if there is anything else you need assistance with.

Regards,
Shaw Academy

I ordered the service and tried to cancel within window. There have been attempts to cancel and no communication from merchant, but I was charged.
I placed an order for Shaw Academy for 69.99 on April 25, 2020. I was allowed a window to cancel. Prior to that window closing I attempted to find communication from Shaw in my email to cancel, but there was none. No confirmation of transaction or information regarding the purchase. After seeing the credit card Charge I was then able to identify the name of and info for the business for me to attempt to cancel. I tried to contact the company to cancel only to receive a series of automated emails with no real response.

I was told that I needed to cancel, but when you go to log into the account the record says that I don't have a profile. I had to create a profile in order for the vendor to charge my card. Ironically when this process was started the merchant attempted to authorize my card multiple times. Shaw Academy not only hides the ball making it difficult for patron to access services. They also making it difficult for patrons to contact them with customer service complaints and cancel. I would not willing give away 69.99 a month for a class I had no intentions on taking. Yet, if I never received any type of confirmation from the vendor regarding log in or confirmation what is my recourse to cancel within the window provided. Subsequently I started receiving emails about certificates to purchase.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of my $69.99 and no further attempts to collect and contact from Shaw on a service that they are failing to provide to consumers.

Hi ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We would like to inform you that Module Shaw Academy Premium Membership - Monthly Subscription is a paid benefit which is non-refundable as per our policies, Our intention was not to upset you in any way, As per your request we have cancelled your subscription hence going forward we confirm that you will not be charged.

With Regards,
Shaw academy

I request that they remove all my personal identifiable information that they have in their system including my bank details.
They have confirmed that my membership was cancelled and that they giving me a an additional two months free of charge from their platform! BUT I dont want to use their platform anymore. I am requesting that they remove all my personal identifiable information that they have in their system. I signed up for the free-trial earlier July 8, 2020 around 5 am. I decided that I no longer want to use their platform to take online courses right after reading a lot of bad reviews. I hope that they won't live up to those bad reviews online by processing this request right away. Their advertisement says that users can cancel their membership anytime before the trial periods may end. I think there is no problem with that, right?

In addition, I want to get a refund for the tool kit that I obviously won't be using anymore. I also found out that they've lost accreditation in July 2019 so their service is considered as "not described" as I wont get a valid certificate or qualifications therefore they should refund it.

I am requesting an email confirmation to confirm that all personal details including bank details have been removed.

I request this to be carried out under the Philippines Data Privacy Act of 2012 RA XXXXX, as my "right to erasure or blocking".

Desired Outcome

I want my PII to be removed from their system including my bank details and get a refund for the toolkit.

Hi,

Oh really? Then, why did your employee named Renny tell me that I can get my refund within 24 hours last July 10th? Does your employee doesn't know that policy? I clearly stated in my email that I wanted a refund for the toolkit! Also, I have validated that I can no longer sign in on your platform. I want you to process my REFUND right away since that's what your employee said so that you can remove my bank details from your database too! See attached images for your reference!

Hi Shaw Academy,

How can I be so sure? I need proof that you have really deleted it. What if in the future my card gets charged? I'm just being prudent.

Just to let you know that if my account gets charged even after telling me that you've deleted my bank account details, I'll get back at you and take legal action.

Signed

HELLO SHAW ACADEMY,

DON'T YOU GET IT? I HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED LAST JULY 15 THAT THE REFUND HAS BEEN CREDITED TO MY BANK ACCOUNT AND I CAN NO LONGER SIGN IN ON YOUR SITE. I JUST WANT TO HAVE MY BANK DETAILS REMOVED FROM YOUR DATABASE. I WON'T BE ASSURED THAT I WILL NOT GET CHARGED WAY FORWARD WITHOUT A PROOF THAT YOU REALLY HAVE DELETED IT! IS THAT TOO TOUGH FOR YOU? IN ACCORDANCE WITH GDPR AND PHILIPPINES DATA PRIVACY ACT OF 2012 RA XXXXX, IT IS MY "RIGHT TO ERASURE OR BLOCKING"!
