Charged me even when I cancelled.
I tried to cancel the Shaw Academy course before my 30 day trial period ended and there was a message saying confirm cancellation by calling them. But during lockdown no one answered, so in fear that they would charge me I put my account on pause and as soon as the pause was over they charged me $34.99 without my consent. They also charged me $39.95 for certificate that I did not request. Please refund my money.
This is the message they had in the screen when I tried to cancel and called the number multiple times.

Unauthorized debits from my credit card despite signing up for a free service and not interacting with them to approve paid services.
I strongly object to their unauthorized charges on my credit card account. These charges have been made without my knowledge or permission. I signed my daughter up for your advertised free classes. The online learning site is set up with super sensitivity on the purchasing one-click system even if that button is not clicked. Any proximity clicks made while navigating the page automatically debits my credit card of purchases, I and my daughter did not agree to.

My daughter disputed the first charge in June and was told she was ineligible for a refund. We in fear of losing this money let her proceed with the fake free course. On July 2 this occurred again and my daughter emailed a dispute and received no response. They telephonic contact with her on July 8 was highly manipulative and dishonest. This constant billing and upgrading show the company offers no free service and uses this dishonest form of advertising to con people out of money for a valueless fake product.

The card details on record are clearly not in my daughter's name and the agent called and upgraded my daughter in a dishonest and untransparent manner yesterday. She was only aware of a further charge when I noticed the debts on my credit card.

The debits are: $45.99 CAD June 18; $45.99 CAD July 02; $139.00 US July 08.

I called number provided to dispute and could not get hold of anyone. I emailed three different emails the last one ***@shawacademy.com.

I emailed

Desired Outcome

Refund $45.99 CAD June 18; $45.99 CAD July 02; $139.00 US July 08.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have sent numerous letters from my daughters email address to numerous emails starting with Billing@shaw... You send automated responses and do not contact as promised. I have a record 36 emails to date. This account is in my daughters name and I cannot provide her details here for her protection. In my initial complaint I supplied an attachment with my daughters student number. I am the owner of the credit card and legally have a right to challenge the unauthorized charges made to it. I have attempted in various ways to contact this organisation and explain the full extent of the problem. They have corresponded that a consultant will contact me, this has never occurred as promised. I have tried calling the numbers provided but that too has not worked as you cannot get through to a person. The number now says that my daughter is not a registered student.

I have requested that they suspend harassing my daughter and provided them with my contact details. Their system is set up to only receive correspondence from my daughters email address which would continue the distress this situation is causing her. She is studying from home due to medically recognized anxiety problems and if this organisation was above reproach and ethical standards we would totally see this as a workable solution to support her. Their practices and unethical behavior have caused such distress my daughter in unable to continue as it has affected her metal health very badly causing us extreme concern. For this reason this company cannot contact her directly.

It is cowardly to respond that they cannot find my details without contacting me directly to try and resolve this situation. WHy would anyone go to all this trouble if they did not have a legitimate complaint. This is further evidence of how they avoid settling a matter, they continue to stall to ensure the client loses their claim window with the bank and frustrate the process in hope that the client will give up.

I am the owner of credit card they are debiting. I explained in my complaint that I set this up for my daughter to access the free course offered. This company forced us to provide payment information and because they present themselves as having recognized qualifications I thought it would not hurt for my child to continue after the free service so complied. They have misrepresented the truth their qualifications are not recognized in Canada. I have asked for the certificate in this regard and there does not seem to be one.

There is no clear way to navigate to the free service without constant up selling strategies. My daughter did not click on the purchase section, it is super sensitive and if you try to close the window it automatically registers that you agreed to purchase. Both times we contacted the company immediately and both times they avoided assisting us with this. We sis not for a second think they would continue to drive billable services our way using other methods. This latest charge according to the consumer act is illegal. They also do not disclose the need to purchase extras with the "free" product they offer to acquire certificate which is a meaningless piece of paper.

They called my daughter to upgrade her to a premium contract. They presented as if they were telling her about it not selling it to her. She did not agree to the upgrade and actually could not legally agree to a charge to my credit card. The payment details clearly display my name. The consumer act of Canada requires I have written agreement in place for a purchase exceeding $50.00. I had no correspondence for this upgrade and so according to law this was illegally debited.

My question is really the unethical strategies and aggressive pursuit of selling a valueless 'product' and making it impossible for people to question or have recourse when there is a challenge to their unethical practices. I take issue with a corporation that destroys ordinary people in pursuit of profit.

This is one of a planned strategy I have to ensure that I get my money returned and highlight the unethical practices of this company.

I am not surprised by their delaying and refusal to try and work an immediate solution. I hope that Revdex.com will investigate this and help me to get final resolution. As suggested I cannot list ,my daughters personal information in this complaint but I would be happy to give this to a Shaw company representative if they are prepared to show they are more honorable than they pretend to be.

If I do not get this resolved in this manner I will be forwarding copies of all my correspondence and efforts to the fraud department of my bank. If this does not resolve it I will seek alternate ways to recover my losses.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I am happy to get my money back. I feel strongly for those that have lost money due to their obscure practices. The stress and fight I and others had to go through remains foremost. I continue to have high concern for those caught by this underhand business. I have seen story after story of poor and under-resourced people who don't know how to take the matter further and lose their money. I think only a few are willing to fight others just feel disempowered by the process to complain and walk away with excessive losses.

I went to cancel trail and there no cancellation key available. Called number given never no answer. Now keeping charging my account. Can't get intouc
Excel trail on4/28/30. Cancelled on 04/28/20 when received email about signing up for classes. I thought I'd was self-paced and not attending classes. So, cancelled but was given a number to called to complete cancellation. Called number number was never answered no matter what time I called. Now they are constantly trying to go into my account. I want this to stop along with the emails about attending class. How do I cancel this once and for all?????? I am unemployed and with everything else going on these days. I can't afford to be losing money.

Desired Outcome

Resolution I am seeking is to cancel the class, stop the emails and stop billing for services I never received.

I signed up to a free trial and I cancelled but have still been charged. I would like tk get a refund ideally.
I signed up for a trial with Shaw Academy on 4th June. I did not receive anything by way of a confirmation or instructions on how to find a course. I chased the company up on 15th June. I have not taken advantage of the course, or taken any lessons. The cancellation procesa was very difficult - you are presented with 10 different steps on the website (each one offering an incentive to stay), when you reach the final page you are told to call a number. However I couldn't call because I'm not allowed my phone in work. Again I've never used any of the courses on offer. The company has refused a refund.

Desired Outcome

To refund monies paid.

All these charges have been clearly mentioned on the terms and conditions which you agreed during the registration process Please email us at ***@shawacademy.com for further assistance.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did not activate a premium subscription during my 4 week trial. In fact I wasn't even able to login for 2 weeks as I did not receive any correspondence from Shaw Academy. I had to enquire what the process was for logging in. I logged into my account - thats as far as my interaction with the Shaw Academy website went. I have been charged for services which I have not used nor have the intention to use. The cancellation process was extremely difficult. I would there propose, based on the above, Shaw Academy have defrauded me of monies and additionally are not compliant with TCF guidelines. As I understand there are already several other complaints by other people who also have been charged for services they did not receive and it has been noted in The Guardian newspaper that they are currently under investigation.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 22, 2020

Refund not given after money was taken despite trial being cancelled
I signed up for a 4 week trial from Shaw and when I realized it was not the learning style I prefer and that my classes were not readily available to me (which I believe is so that customers forget to cancel the trial) I decided to cancel my trial. I cancelled within the first week after going through six pages of offers I did not want and called the number provided after being bombarded with even more offers for a service I had no wish to continue. Weeks after I cancelled I checked my bank account and saw that shaw had taken the money out despite my trial being cancelled. When I attempted to email customer service they told me my cancellation was not processed and that they would not be refunding me. In one email the representative even spelt my email wrong which is absolutely unprofessional and i'm not quite sure how they were able to look through my account if he couldn't even spell my email right. I was then again faced with multiple "offers" to continue my service even after my refund was said to not be applicable.

Desired Outcome

I would like my account information to be deleted and a full refund seeing as I never once used this service after the first day and I would no longer like this company to have my bank details.

I emailed the email the company left me and they responded that they would indeed be giving me the refund. The refund was sent out on July 14th and O received it on July 18th.

I signed up for 4 weeks trial period on July 09, 2020 on the same day I was charged 39 euro for eCertificate for the course I haven't started yet.
I signed up for 4 weeks trial period on July 09, 2020 on the same day I was charged 39 euro for eCertificate for the course I haven't started yet. the eCertificate button on their website which is illogical to have in the middle of the mobile page given that many people navigate mobile devices with touchscreen and may accidentally touch where the button is, has no price tag nor asking for any confirmation after click(touch) didn't ask me for payment method either since they required me to enter paypal for 4 weeks trial period.

Desired Outcome

just refund me the course haven't started yet and I have no intention to buy eCertificate.

The only way to access the courses was to register a card number or paypal account which according to shaw academy it will only be used to verify to prevent fraud and will not be billed until after trial period,
they use this as loophole to make shaw academy an automatically pre-approved on paypal account. so any purchase made to shaw academy will no longer required my approval combine with their shady webdesign that make "One click purchase" in the middle of screen on mobile with no detail/price tag and no confirmation waiting for you to accidentally click it. once I realize this is a scam and I was charged I tried to contact shaw academy for refund and cancel my trial, only there was no cancel button so I had to email the company the same hour as I registered and request a refund.

they refused to process the refund for e-certificate and final assignment to a course I have not enrolled in and have no intention to purchase it.

I request that they remove all my personal identifiable information that they have in their system including my bank details.
They have confirmed that my membership was cancelled and that they giving me a an additional two months free of charge from their platform! BUT I dont want to use their platform anymore. I am requesting that they remove all my personal identifiable information that they have in their system. I signed up for the free-trial earlier July 8, 2020 around 5 am. I decided that I no longer want to use their platform to take online courses right after reading a lot of bad reviews. I hope that they won't live up to those bad reviews online by processing this request right away. Their advertisement says that users can cancel their membership anytime before the trial periods may end. I think there is no problem with that, right?

In addition, I want to get a refund for the tool kit that I obviously won't be using anymore. I also found out that they've lost accreditation in July 2019 so their service is considered as "not described" as I wont get a valid certificate or qualifications therefore they should refund it.

I am requesting an email confirmation to confirm that all personal details including bank details have been removed.

I request this to be carried out under the Philippines Data Privacy Act of 2012 RA XXXXX, as my "right to erasure or blocking".

Desired Outcome

I want my PII to be removed from their system including my bank details and get a refund for the toolkit.

I ordered the service and tried to cancel within window. There have been attempts to cancel and no communication from merchant, but I was charged.
I placed an order for Shaw Academy for 69.99 on April 25, 2020. I was allowed a window to cancel. Prior to that window closing I attempted to find communication from Shaw in my email to cancel, but there was none. No confirmation of transaction or information regarding the purchase. After seeing the credit card Charge I was then able to identify the name of and info for the business for me to attempt to cancel. I tried to contact the company to cancel only to receive a series of automated emails with no real response.

I was told that I needed to cancel, but when you go to log into the account the record says that I don't have a profile. I had to create a profile in order for the vendor to charge my card. Ironically when this process was started the merchant attempted to authorize my card multiple times. Shaw Academy not only hides the ball making it difficult for patron to access services. They also making it difficult for patrons to contact them with customer service complaints and cancel. I would not willing give away 69.99 a month for a class I had no intentions on taking. Yet, if I never received any type of confirmation from the vendor regarding log in or confirmation what is my recourse to cancel within the window provided. Subsequently I started receiving emails about certificates to purchase.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of my $69.99 and no further attempts to collect and contact from Shaw on a service that they are failing to provide to consumers.

I cancelled my acct BEFORE the trial expiredI received TWO emails stating that the account was cancelled then was charged $69.99 the next day.
On X-X-XXXX I cancelled my trial well BEFORE the trial period was over, receiving not one, but two emails from Shaw Academy (attached in jpg format) confirming that my account was cancelled and I would not be charged. Then the very next day on 7-3-2020 (jpg attached) I was charged $69.99 by Shaw Academy. I immediately wrote support and received an email with a ticket number. A week later I still haven't received any contact from Shaw Academy and clicking on the link for the ticket number leads to a dead link on their site. I'm now no longer allowed to log into my account there and it seems to me that I have been stolen from an this crime will not go unpunished. I will do everything in my power to legally hold these thieves accountable for their actions here. Thanks for any assistance you can give me in the matter.

Desired Outcome

I would like my $69.99 returned to my card, an apology from these thieves and for them to be forced to respond to people they are stealing from on what seems to be a fairly regular basis.

Requested all info for refund only to stop responding and only after contacting them again did they respond saying we'll give you 6 months free access
Submitted a request for a refund of $69.99 on 7/1 after getting charged after trial period. They responded 2 times the same day asking me to provide the necessary info needed then they stopped responding for 4 days until I sent an email again asking why they stopped responding. They then said sorry no refund but we're giving you 6 months free access. I did not ask for that. Now they won't respond to any of my emails since then. Horrible practice and taking people's money.

Desired Outcome

Shaw Academy charged me $69.99 monthly subscription fee even when I canceled their service within the advertised 30-day free trial period.
30-day free trial membership started on Jun 04, 2020, and cancelled on Jul 02, 2020. I was charged $69.99 membership fee by Shaw Academy on the day of my cancellation. When I signed up, Shaw Academy's front page clearly advertised "30-day free trial" (screenshot included). Therefore they should not have charged my on day 29. I have contacted Shaw Academy, but they claimed that the trial is 28 days, not 30. When I show them my screenshot, they never got back to me. But, AFTER our communication, Shaw Academy altered their website and changed "30-day free trial" to be "4-week free trial". Shaw Academy is very dishonest. I feel that their trial is a scam.

Desired Outcome

I request Shaw Academy to refund the wrongfully charged $69.99 membership fee. I cancelled within the advertised 30-day trial period, and should not be charged.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Shaw Academy,
The screen shot with 30-day free trial advertisement was taken on July 2, 2020, certainly not very old. I contacted the billing dept of your company on the same day via e-mail, and someone replied me saying that the free trial term is 28 days. Then, after I sent him the screenshot, your website magically updated to say "4-week free trial" instead. It seemed that my screenshot triggered the advertisement update. I am satisfied with your gesture to refund. But I think it'll make your company appear much more credible if you would admit the truth, rather than trying to cover up. I wish you good luck.

I repeatedly cancelled my subscription and confirmed the cancellation yet they continue to bill me.
I cancelled my subscription after finding it wasn't what I wanted. Finding their cancellation process overly onerous I searched for reviews and found this is a common issue of them not cancelling. I re-confirmed and asked to have my billing information removed to ensure there would be no issue. I was assured it was cancelled. I missed that they have subsequently billed me several times since this.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund and for them to simplify the cancellation process (current process requires you to request a cancellation which then requires you to call with no less than 3 hard sells which finally gives you an email address to cancel) to just be a hard button "CANCEL" which will also remove all billing information.

While a hard sell isn't illegal they make it so difficult to deactivate. The process is literally going through a cancel process on their website with three sells of why you shouldn't cancel to finally be given a phone number. The phone number automation gives you three more hard sells to stop you from cancelling only to be given an email address to cancel through.

Reading through other people's issues this company not only makes it difficult to cancel but screws up the cancel regularly anyway. If they can build in the hard sell they can build in a cancel function that also deletes the users billing information so this doesn't keep happening which it does.

I requested after cancelling to make sure it was cancelled and I was assured it was. If you search for cancel membership Shaw academy this isn't a one time occurrence of oops we messed up. It has too
Much of a pattern looking more like an attempt to make it impossible to cancel and bill people even after cancelling hope it slips by. And even when prompted if the cancel is done it is t which was my experience. They should be required to give a delete function that will stop them from billing the user further. I've attached a screen shot of my follow up email back in March when I asked them to confirm the cancellation after reading of the issues people had.

Signed up with Shaw Academy on a free trial for a few weeks. Before the expiration date, she canceled the membership but they still debit my account with R399 on 04 July. Queried it with them on 06 July but have not received any response yet. No luck in getting hold on them either on this number XXXXXXXXXX. My student number is XXXXX.
I have laid complaints but no luck

Desired Outcome

I just want my refund of R399. 00 as my membership is canceled

I telephonically contacted Shaw Academy on the attached number XXXXXXXXXX on 15 June 2020 .
We tried to cancel the membership on the website but it redirects you to call the XXXXXXXXXX number. If I try to contact them now, we no longer able to speak to anyone, its only a voice recording system that directs you but of no help at all.
See my emails attached as well.
Also after they debited my account, I have been sending numerous emails but get no response from them. This is the worst kind of service ever received.
I don't feel it is fair that they get away with this.

Never received the guaranteed email reminder of free trial expiration. Was charged $70 for a membership, canceled next day and they refused refund.
I came upon a free month-trial period and signed up. Like most free trials I had forgotten about it but relied upon their guarantee that an email reminder will be sent three days before it expired in order to cancel. I never received that email and I've checked spam and junk. After being charged the $70 I called the day after to cancel and refund. They refused referring to the terms and conditions, however cancelled my membership. So I paid $70 for 1 day of access to a membership that now doesn't exist. It has been handled like I was baited into something I didn't want and now can't get out of it while they didn't fulfill their responsibility.

Desired Outcome

A refund of the $70 membership I will not be using now that it is canceled.

Signed up for "free" 4-week class that has cost $240 and counting. Cancelled and put stop payment on and I'm still being charged.
I signed up for the "free" 4-week course that's all over their website. Forgot about it, never received any emails, must have put my account info in and forgot. That's my fault, cool I get it. Charged $59.99 on April 15th so I cancel online. Should be the end right? Nope. Charged $59.99 again May 13th. Contact customer service to get a refund and actually cancel the account. Told it was cancelled but they couldn't refund. Whatever, I'll swallow the money... Charged $59.99 June 10th. Contact my bank immediately to dispute all the transactions and get a stop payment on them. ASSURED I won't be charged again because my bank won't let the payment go through. July 8th CHARGED $59.99 AGAIN. Mind you I never received any emails until I messaged customer service.

Customer service rep went nameless and sent me very long email that is too long to paste here back saying they couldn't refund but "took the liberty" to cancel my account (after I asked) and "would give me 6 months free" which I didn't want but whatever sure fine.

I emailed again after the next payment and received no response from customer service.

I tried to access my account to get an account number but couldn't. My email associated with the account is ***@yahoo.com

Desired Outcome

I am looking for a refund of all four $59.99 payments and a stop payment on your end. I never want to be charged by Shaw academy again. (Honestly would be happy if I never heard the name again, too)

I wanted to cancel my subscription but they wanted
I wanted to cancel my subscription, yet after a long process of cancelling, in the end you will be instructed to call a number which is not working. I have read a lot of negative reviews regarding payment deductions before the trial period ends, so I decided to cancel my subscription as early as now before I get to be a victim of this scam.

Desired Outcome

I just wanted that my trial subscription be cancelled now and no further amount must be deducted in my account

Good day. Shaw Academy has cancelled my subscription today, July 14, 2020. Thank you for the help.

They promised a reminder before any charged were made. My card was charged with no reminder and they are refusing to refund me.
I had a free trial with Shaw academy, and when I went to cancel my free trial, I spoke to an agent who said she would extend my free trial, and before the trial ended she promised she would send a reminder to me to see whether I wanted to proceed with my subscription. I received no contact before they charged my credit card, and when I tried to request a refund, they refused to refund my money. I fully intended to cancel my subscription once I received the reminder promised by the company, however I received no such thing, and now I am having to pay for their mistake.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money refunded as I do not wish to continue any type of service with this company.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I spoke to an agent before my membership was going to be cancelled, and that agent promised to EMAIL me a reminder before my free trial ended. I received no email reminder from the agent or Shaw academy letting me know my card will be charged and my free trial will end as promised. Now Shaw Academy is refusing to address my issue when I email them, and they are making me, the customer, pay for a mistake they made on their end. Shaw Academy claims that "they did send me a reminder" which they actually DID NOT. Please send a screenshot of proof that you have sent this reminder that I did not receive.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
1. You are not clearly responding to my query. As mentioned before, your agent promised to send me an EMAIL, not to go on your site to see where I would have been "reminded." I did not receive the EMAIL that was promised to me, and because of that, my credit card was charged, and now you are ignoring my request for a refund.
2. Even after being ignored, I followed the steps you mentioned, and there is no case of a "reminder" that you are mentioning.
3. I have contacted your customer service about this as well and I am being ignored via email.

Please let me know when I can be refunded because this is a mistake made by Shaw Academy. Will you make your customer pay for a mistake that your company made?

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 17, 2020

We have already initiated the refund which should be reflecting in you account anytime.

Shaw Academy deducting money from credit cards using false advertising
I subscribed to Shaw Academy for a Dilpoma In food and Nutrition on 26th June 2020. It was advertised as 30 days free but required my credit card to complete the registration. I cancelled the the course after 2 weeks but found that my credit card had been charged twice, $70.00USD and $44USD. I contacted them through email to cancel my tuition and request a refund. They responded that I selected a "buy now" tab and could not be refunded. They offered additional credit towards duties tuition which I refused due to the skeptical nature of their activity. I again requested a refund and was told that they cannot provide a refund. I cancelled during the first course and within the 30 day free trial period.

Desired Outcome

Full refund to my credit card

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 10, 2020

I have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged 39,00 EUR for the purchase (E Certificate for Professional Diploma in Nutrition Module 1) you made via our one click purchase option. As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non refundable charge, however as a good will gesture I have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days.

Tried unsuccessfully to cancel a membership. Was charged even though I received a confirmation that my membership was cancelled.
Cancelled membership on 6/25/2020 and received an email confirmation on that day stating that my membership was cancelled. 7/2/2020 was charged $69.99 by Shaw Academy.

Desired Outcome

I want the membership cancelled and a refund of $69.99.

Thank you for your work on this issue. I read the response from Shaw and saw that they are going to issue a refund to my original source. However, I had to cancel my bank card (the original source) because Shaw Academy subscription email bombed me. They illegally used my email address to sign me up with over 5,000 spam subscriptions. I received this subscription bomb between 1:00 am - 8:00 am the day that I had sent a complaint to the Revdex.com. After reading & researching subscription email bombs, I thought it wise to cancel my bank card. All of that to say, how can Shaw Academy proceed with my refund since my original source is no longer valid?

Thank you,
-

This company has hacked into my Amazon account and tried to purchase a $2,500 laptop and $175 worth of insurance for the laptop. They also hacked into my Paypal account and purchased a $150 custom shirt. They bombed my email account with over 5,000 subscription newsletter/spam emails.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 31, 2020

We believe that this is a false acquisition. As we do not have any records of suck activities. We would like to go ahead and inspect this for you hence please share the supporting documents which prove that we as an organization or somebody from this organisation has tried to hack your account. You can send us the supporting documents at ***@shawacademy.com.

As far as the refund goes we do not have an option to refund the amount to an alternate account. Please have this resolved with your bank and update us so we can initiate another refund request.
