Fraudulent charging for services that were never able to be accessed.
I signed up for a free trial of Shaw Academy but was never able to log into access the classes. Every single time I tried to log in, I was given an error message. I was billed $69.99 on June 27th. One day later on June 28th, I reached out through email to Shaw Academy to resolve my log in issues and try to get a refund. I was told I will not be refunded and that I need to reset my password. This also did not work. I received another error message. I was told by Shaw Academy even though it was the error on their website I was still responsible for the $69.99. How can I be held responsible for the company's website failing to work? I want a refund for ALL of my money. I also want to be able to log into the site to insure they don't try and bill me again. I have cancelled the payments on my paypal account but I don't know if the company will still be able to bill me again.
Desired Outcome
I am seeking a refund for the amount of $69.99 and a promise that my account is cancelled and I will not be billed again.

I signed up for a free class. I did not authorize a Pay Pal payment - the charged me $39.95 without my authorization.
I signed up for what is advertised as a free class. I thought because of Covid a lot of places are building up good will for future. If I liked the class I would certainly take a class as a paid student. It advertised FREE. I saw they were marketing tool kits for the photography class I was taking. I did not have the money and I did not want to spend it. Typically on Pay Pall you have to choose where the money is deducted. I never went through this step. I want to return the tool kit which I have not opened or accessed and the company is not responding. I cancelled any affiliation and did not attend the online classes. I am going to dispute the charge with the credit card. I feel their website and practices were purposefully duplicitous. During Covid - I have seen and participated in things that are truly "FREE" - this was clearly never meant to be free. I hope their business practices are reviewed. Sadly, I am sure I am not the first or last person to think it is free. I hope my credit card can get me a refund since I caught the charge within a day and contracts can be cancelled. thank you
Desired Outcome
I did not participate in the free class or open or access the online "tool kit" for the photography class I have asked for a refund for the $39.95 because I am not going to use it and I caught the charge within a day of it being posted and typically by law you have 3 days to cancel and get a refund. I appreciate your help.

I need a refund of my money because they wouldn't let me cancel
13/07/2020
According to Shaw Academy terms and conditions, students can have a free trial period before subscribing to paid membership. Cancelling the free trial before the period is over will mean no charges will be incurred. I was not happy with the initial content trialled and stopped attending classes. Accordingly I tried to contact them to cancel my free trial before the trial period was over. 2 days to the end of the free trial I tried to cancel the free membership. They kept on showing me better options and discounted deals so I couldn't cancel it. I tried their number which I had had gotten from the internet many times but it wasn't going through. I continued trying deep into the night and slept off. This morning I woke up and found out that they had taken 6,029.25 Naira from my account. I need a refund because they wouldn't let me cancel it showing me numerous discounted offers and their numbers were not going through. Just this morning when I wanted to check how to get a refund, I saw angry comments of other people and one of them on another site showed how to cancel the membership. I need a refund because I really need that money back. I tried to cancel it but they wouldn't let me. I have sent an email to them but they haven't replied.
Desired Outcome
I just need the money back as soon as possible and the company should redesign their website and marketing strategies because I am not the first they have done this to.

I am happy with the response to refund the money. I hope and believe that they will refund it as they have said. I will be waiting for the refund and will possibly keep you updated if needed (if they don't refund the money).
Signed up for a free trial, got charged for a toolkit I don't want. Cancelled on the phone and was promised a refund too - both were lies.
Signed up for trial, paid for toolkit which I didn't want due to their scam one click, then cancelled and was promised a refund. Never got a refund and my account showed as cancelled on the site but I'm still getting charged months on. Absolute Joke.
Desired Outcome
A refund for the toolkit and every month charged as I didn't pay for any and was promised my account was cancelled and refund was pending.

Shaw Academy is a scam. The courses are basic and poor quality. It is next to impossible to cancel your "free trial". DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!!
I thought I would try the course on photography. The ad said you had 30 day free trial, which I'm sure I would have, but the classes are terrible. The 'instructors' speak slower than sloths and ramble on about stuff to fill time in the 'lesson' in which you learn nothing.
I went to cancel my free trial and the only way I can do this is to call a number to speak to one of their "guidance" people, but surprise, surprise! your student ID number isn't valid when you try to get through their automated system. SO you can't talk to anyone to cancel your membership.
Don't sign up for Shaw Academy. They are a scam and a headache.
Desired Outcome
Cancel my free trial with this company so I don't get charged monthly by them!!

This issue has been resolved. I finally received an email confirming that they would cancel my free trial, but still recieved a phone call from them. I don't trust them based on all I have read about them now on different sites. I cancelled my method of payment as well as it seems a popular trick with them is to still charge your card even after they say they cancelled your free trial.
I responded to an ad online from Shaw Academy for a free 4-week online Project Management course. They ended up charging my card without authorization
While going through my transaction history on July 8, I noticed a charge on my credit card from Shaw Academy on July 3. I had responded to an ad for a 4-week free Project Management course. They had requested my card details and promised that they would not deduct my money. Further, they had promised on their website that they would send an email 3 days prior to the expiration of any free trials so that customers would have a chance to cancel.
I attended an online class during the first week of my free trial. When I tried to access the online class by the second week, it was impossible to do so as there was no link with which to join. So, I gave up and lost interest. I never attempted to join another class afterwards. I no longer had an interest in pursuing the course. As you can imagine, If I did not attend classes during the free trial period, it shows clearly that I would have no interest in paying a subscription.
Shaw Academy never emailed me as promised prior to my free trial ending. They went ahead and removed $69.99 from my Amex card.
There are thousands of other people on the internet who have fallen victim to similar or even worse deductions by Shaw Academy. I did a bit of research and what I found was mind-boggling.
When I tried to cancel the subscription on July 8, they took me through several pages of offers, trying to wear me out. I continued to insist on cancelling and eventually they displayed a number on their web page. They said I could only cancel by calling that number. I called the number and an automated voice said their offices were closed. I called again on July 9 and stayed on the phone with an automated voice for several minutes, rejecting multiple offers meant to hoodwink me into not cancelling. Eventually, I was able to cancel successfully. I then requested a refund via email. They responded after 48 hours that I agreed to have my card deducted when I subscribed to the free trial and they could not refund my money.
I appealed to their CEO, *** E, via LinkedIn and through email, that I am a very poor guy who just graduated from grad school and I am heavily in debt from student loans. I lost my part-time job because of the pandemic. I never meant to pay a subscription and really cannot afford to pay $70 for an online course. I requested his help to have my money refunded. I got no response.
There is an Instagram page dedicated to helping victims of Shaw Academy fraud here:
https://www.instagram.com/shawacademy.fraud
There is a UK customer review platform called Trust Pilot, their review page for Shaw Academy can be found here: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/shawacademy.com
Shaw Academy is involved in an ongoing effort to rig the reviews on that platform, so much that Trust Pilot had to display a warning to the general public.
There are also several online petitions against Shaw Academy. I provide two examples below:
https://www.change.org/p/www-cgso-org-za-have-shaw-academy-investigated-for-frau...⇄ />
https://www.change.org/p/shaw-academy-stop-shaw-academy-from-financially-exploit...⇄ />
A journalist with The Guardian, Suzanne B. recently wrote an article that highlights some consumer complaints regarding Shaw Academy here:
https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/jun/13/big-online-learning-provider-f...⇄ />
In view of these facts, I would like to request Revdex.com to investigate, help me get a refund, and take steps to protect US consumers from Shaw Academy's fraudulent and unethical practices.
Desired Outcome
All I want is a refund of the $69.99 that they charged to my card. I also want them to delete my account along with all my details. I do not want any free stuff from them. They should stop sending me emails which state that I have missed my classes. I have no further interest in transacting any form of business with them.

I spoke to one their representatives who called me on the phone before the end of the free trial period and I made it clear that I was no longer interested. They should have cancelled at that time because there is no way to cancel on their website.
Further, by not sending a reminder email before trial expiration as they promised on their website, they breached the terms of our contract.
The money they took is without my consent or authorization. I only signed up for a 4-week free course, which I only accessed in the first week of the free period. I did not ask for a premium membership and I never used their premium membership. I will never use it.
It is clear that deception is their business model. All these complaints do not faze them. Hoodwinking people and defrauding them, that's their business strategy. And it has to stop.
Part of my request was that they delete all of my data from their website. Continuing to keep my data is in contravention of extant privacy rules. This has not been addressed.
Only a refund of my money, and deletion of all my data, will resolve this complaint.

Shaw academy does not have a means to cancel an account within a trial period. The phone number they tell you to cancel with is invalid.
I had signed up for a free trial with Shar Academy on Wed 8 July, 2020. After the service for a few days, I decided I wanted to cancel my account before my trial ended. I read their Terms of Use (which was difficult to find because the link on their site often does not link to anything) and followed their instructions to cancel.
I was prompted to answer some questions, and was ultimately taken to a page which told me to complete my cancellation, I had to call XXXX XXX XXX and enter the Student Number they provided me with. The automatic operator said the number I entered was incorrect (it was not, I tried multiple times), and it runs on a constant loop. There are no options to direct my call elsewhere or speak to a customer service representative. I currently still have 24 days left of my trial but I did not want to be charged when the trial ends - and I am glad I did because it turns out the company makes it impossible to cancel.
Desired Outcome
I would like Shaw to enable users to cancel their accounts as outlined in their Terms of Use and fix the phone system that is currently faulty and misleading.

After which she would be charged. On June 21st, she unpaused my membership, which still should have been free, and completely cancelled it. However, I found that two separate charges of $39.95 were still billed to my credit card account. When my daaughter asked about this, they told her that those charges were for the eCertificate, which they could not be refund it. When she finished my Shaw Academy course, the eCertificate was listed as free. Once she clicked it, nothing else happened. she was not given a link to print a certificate, nor was she given any more updates on it.
She have tried to contact the Customer Service department of Shaw Academy multiple times with no success.
Desired Outcome
My expectation is that Shaw academy refund the two charges done for $39.95 done against my Credit Card.

I signed up for a 4 week free trial of their photography course but after my first lesson I was fed up with the service and wanted to cancel. The cancellation process gave me a student ID and an automated machine to call. The only option in the machine was to input the student ID, but it said mine was wrong. I triple checked that it was correct but it still refused it and I was deadlocked. I cannot find an alternative number or email address to ask to terminate my subscription. If I cannot terminate in 3 weeks they will charge my credit card for a service I no longer want and that they won't let me quit. Please help.

Refusal to refund unauthorized $199.95. My card was left on file w/o knowledge after purchasing tool kit. No reply til refund requests made.
I signed my daughter up for the 4 week FREE trial. Inquired about her age and was told it was not relevant at Shaw. I purchased the tool kit for the class. Unknowingly that my card remained on file. I had inquired about another charge of a diploma. My daughter said she was trying to look at the details and accidentally hit something about a purchase. I inquired about a refund because she was unaware of what she was doing as she was trying to obtain additional information about it. Instead it automatically purchased the diploma (of which I did not authorize and a refund was refused). Pop ups came to my daughters email repeatedly about continuing after free trial. My daughter sent an email to them asking about the post trial process. There was no reply. I did see the ad for $16.66 per month, $32.99 per month and another option. I told my daughter we would speak about it further but we needed to contact Shaw Academy for more details. An email was sent about the fees for post free trial but there was no response. I noticed the charge of $199.95 on my card. I did not authorize and my daughter doesn't have access to my cards. I sent an email inquiring about the refund and was refused although the refund policy guidelines provides different information. I did follow the refund request guidelines. My only assumption is that my card remained on file without my knowledge after purchasing the tool kit.
Desired Outcome
The email reply finally received from Vaughn stated that I would not be provided a refund and that I could cancel at my discretion but the $199.95 would not be refunded

I do not accept this response because I did not purchase this toolkit, I don't want a toolkit, I never accessed the toolkit, I never received a receipt for this purchase and I am not interested in your services. It is unacceptable to fall back on a non-refundable policy for a purchase that was never made or authorized. You have inappropriately utilized my credit card information provided solely for the purposes of initiating the account to charge me for toolkit I never wanted; I hadn't even picked a certificate yet. The "one-click purchase" option is evidently a way to scam people into getting charged for something they never purchased but can't prove they never clicked on it. This is not acceptable at all.

I signed up for free 4 weeks trial on 9 July 2020. Suddenly (actually 3 minutes later), I was charged by Shaw Academy for certificate without my consent. I paid it through a debit card (last 4 digits on the card are 3403). The amount paid is 1,421.54 or 39. Of course, the date of payment is on 9 July 2020. Account : ***@gmail.com
I don't even start lesson 1 why I want a certificate. That's nonsense. I insist that I didn't purchase anything from their fake free 4-week trial. So I sent email to them that I want to refund. Natually, that SCAM website said they can't refund me becase the certificate was activated. (That's nonsense I didn't start lesson1.) And they upgraded my account and gave other promotions instead of refund. I only want them to refund!
I don't know why they response me slower that other clients. Or just because I'm Asain?? and though I will give up if they ignored me.
This bussiness is truly SCAM. Close them. Don't allow them to find another victim. Disgusting!

They charge my credit card no refunds , almost impossible to cancel membership
First problem was they suddenly show pop ups and I accidentally clicked 1-click purchase for something that I don't want and did not use they charged me. Tried to contact them and no refund!! Second one I tried to cancel my membership within trial period and they did not they provided a number to call to cancel and you cannot call it on the weekend. called it and it asks you if you are sure to cancel 100 times and every time I said yes and at the end the call disconnects you cannot even talk to an agent make it nearly impossible to cancel. Contacted them again and ne refund. My last solution is send the bank dispute letter so they can deal with them! I had enough of Shaw Academy I regret the day I signed up for free trial. And the best part is they have a bad web page and application that I am unable to remove my credit card so they keep charging! It's a night mare! Because of covid everyone is economically struggling and I ended up paying then several times!
Desired Outcome
I just want my refunds!

I signed up for a free 30 DAYS trial with Shaw Academy. I set up a reminder to cancel as I was not up with my ENTIRE month of free trial. I never received this reminder as indicated via email. Instead I have already been charged on my credit card 2 days before my trial was supposed to end.
The response of the company is that they are not able to refund the pending amount but can offer me 6 months of access completely free of charge. I don't want to continue using this service, I just want to get the charge refunded and ensured they don't charge me for any other subscription I didn't do.

I don't want your service, I don't want your videos, I have not used the site for anything else rather that ONE free video. Their costumer service is ***...They have only automated responses. Their site is full of traps with one click purchases without invoices or purchase reviews. One wrong click and money is gone forever... They only replied to my negative review on their phone app by saying that they will not take anymore money from me from now on but not adressing the possibility to refund me. In this case I can't reply or be in contact with someone from the company. They have caused me severe anxiety and anger because I work hard to earn that money. And beiing taken by someone so easily and without any explanation is unacceptable.
Desired Outcome
I would like my money back. The mechanism of the site didn't allow me to cancel any wrong payments or wrong clicks. I haven't used the site for anything else and I haven't received anything from the payment. I would like to cancel my account and a refund.

I hope my credit card can get me a refund since I caught the charge within a day and contracts can be cancelled. thank you
I did not participate in the free class or open or access the online "tool kit" for the photography class I have asked for a refund for the $39.95 because I am not going to use it and I caught the charge within a day of it being posted and typically by law you have 3 days to cancel and get a refund. I appreciate your help.
Hi ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We would like to inform you that Module Toolkit is a paid benefit which is non-refundable as per our policies, Our intention was not to upset you in any way.

Cancel my free trial with this company so I don't get charged monthly by them!!
Hi ***,
We are sorry to hear about your experience and inconvenience caused to you.
We have now cancelled your membership as per your request. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward until you reactivate it.

Please be assured that your account has been deactivated and we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3- 5 business days. Please let us know if there is anything else you need assistance with.

I would like Shaw to enable users to cancel their accounts as outlined in their Terms of Use and fix the phone system that is currently faulty and misleading.
That's definitely not the kind of service we stand for! We are as disappointed as you are to hear that your experience with us has not been stellar be it the website or when you reached out to our support team. Give us a chance to make this right, Kindly reach out to ***@shawacademy.com.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I had contacted customer service, they eventually cancelled my account. However their cancellation phone number is still faulty - they ask you to enter your student ID followed by # and it says it is incorrect. I would like this feature fixed so that no one else has to deal with the faulty service.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience you faced. However we would like to bring it to you attention that we have made the changes in the cancellation process.

My expectation is that Shaw academy refund the two charges done for $39.95 done against my Credit Card.

I cannot terminate my membership. I can't find a phone number or address. If I can't terminate in 3 weeks time they will charge me.
I want them to terminate my service and delete my information. I do not want their services so I don't want to be charged by them.
Hai ***, We are sorry to let you down with this experience. However, we would surely want to help you with the same, As per your request, We have gone ahead and cancelled your subscription going forward you will not be receiving any notification or charges regarding this issue.

My complaint is due to Shaw Academy refused to refund me a charge I didn't authorize. I signed up for a (4) week free trial, not for membership.
My complaint is due to Shaw Academy refused to refund me a charge I didn't authorize. I was charged for a membership that I'm not using. I signed up for a (4) week free trial, not for a membership. I cancelled the (4) week trial and the company refused to refund a charge of $69.99. I have contacted the company twice and they refused to give me a refund. When I call the company there's a automated system and it never connects you to an actual person. You can only reach customer service by e-mail. The company is constantly pushing for customers to pay for memberships that they don't want to purchase.
I'd like to receive a full refund for the membership fee of $69.99.

The email reply finally received from Vaughn stated that I would not be provided a refund and that I could cancel at my discretion but the $199.95 would not be refunded

I provided my CC information to subscribe to a free trial 3 days ago. They charged my card for a toolkit I did not purchase without my permission.
I provided my credit card information to subscribe to a free trial on 7/9/2020. The advertisement said cancel anytime and I wanted to check the services prior to committing. On 7/12/2020 while trying to cancel the trial, my credit card was charged $39.95 without my permission. I received an email from them saying I had "unlocked" the access To a toolkit I never purchased - that was not a receipt, it didn't include my card number, value charged, date of purchase. Their phones and chats are automated, I'm unable to cancel the membership or this unauthorized purchase.
Cancel/refund the unauthorized charge, cancel my membership, facilitate cancellation of purchases/membership for future consumers.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience you faced. However we would also like to bring it to you attention that you have accepted the terms and conditions which clearly indicated about the one-click non refundable purchase. Just in case a customer has failed to see that, we have also added a disclaimer on the banner itself. We are sorry to inform you that the refund is not possible. Refund are given in situation where we as an organisation have failed to cancel the account even after the customer has requested to cancel before the trial period. As far as we are concern we have upheld our part of the contract with you. Unfortunately we are unable to provide you a refund.

I signed up for free 4 weeks trial. Suddenly, I was charged by Shaw Academy for certificate without my consent. And they don't refund and ignored me.
Disgusting!
I want Shaw Academy full refund for certificate (which I didn't purchase!) and DELETE all of my account and bank data from your data base. Don't scam anyone else. Don't find another victim. Don't get money without customer's consent.

I was charged $99.93 without my permission during my free trial
I was on a free trial with Shaw Academy for beauty classes. The free trial was for 28 days. I joined on June 22 and on July 10, on the 19th day, they charged me $99.93 without my permission. I tried to cancel my membership but was given a phone number to call and a code to talk to the people. The code does not work and I was not able to cancel my membership. The phone numbers don't work and they don't respond by email. I want my refund of $99.93 back.
I want my refund of $99.93 back and I want my membership cancelled.

I want the 49.99 that I've been charged on my credit card before the end of my free trial to be refunded.

Hi,
Shaw Academy took $39.99 immediately from me without a confirmation. They will not let me cancel my subscription either.
Shaw Academy offered 4 weeks of a free trial, but they will not cancel my subscription for their membership. Their membership is $69.99 per month, but I would like to cancel my membership. They also took $39.99 from me because of the Toolkit subscription without my consent.
I would like to get a refund for Toolkit, which was $39.99, and would like to cancel my membership subscription, which will charge me $69.99 per month after the 4 week trial.

This company took my hard earned money and don't answer my numerous emails and messages.
This company took my hard earned money without my permission and I have sent them numerous emails and messages and they don't answer back. I joined for their 4 week free trial and I ONLY watched ONE video that was suposed to be free and than directly I was charged 69,99$ for premium membership. I want my money back.
I would like my money back. The mechanism of the site didn't allow me to cancel any wrong payments or wrong clicks. I haven't used the site for anything else and I haven't received anything from the payment. I would like to cancel my account and a refund.
Hi ***,
We have reviewed your account and noticed that you had signed up with us on 5 July and opted for the premium membership on the 7 July hence the payment was processed. Since you have requested not to proceed with the service, we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days.
