Shaw Academy Reviews (2754)

I signed up for a "FREE" set classes. There were problems and I quit the program, or so I thought. I just revived a $70 charge on my credit card
I had an offer from face book to take training from Shaw Academy LLC for a month free. During this time I got upwards to 30 daily reminders which were incredibly annoying and each one had to be responded to on my phone or email directly. Previous to the course I attempted their assessment prior to the class and passed *** When I attempted to take the course I had a wifi outage. They then gave me issue over it and told me I couldn't take the next course so what good are they? At this point I was pretty sure I wanted to discontinue anyway. I went online and went through what should have cancelled it online, NO, it didn't. When I got to the end of it after multiple pages of verifying it then told me I had to call a number to confirmX-XXX-XXX-XXXX with a student number of 49274 (Ridiculous). I attempted to call the number. It immediately puts you in call hold music. I waited an hour and quit waiting. I thought this would me the last of it. Until today 7/4/2020 when I noticed a charge from them on my online credit card statement for $70 (Class was free the diploma and course materials are not). They shouldn't have been able to do this as I had some credit card fraud happen last month and my card was replaced. Yet somehow they got in to charge me. Doing it on July 4th is very sneaky and underhanded. I saw the other protests here and figured yes, I had to complain. They don't post and address, their number goes to music and they like to be sneaky and underhanded. I need charges reversed and ANYTHING to do with them removed from my existence.

Desired Outcome

I want out of their obvious scam and to be left alone and not charged.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I went through the procedure to try to end the trial. It had me go through several pages of confirming that I was trying to end it online on the Internet and then told me I had to submit to calling them and giving them a number after I went through that which is ridiculous. I was put on hold for an hour which meant that they didn't want me unsubscribe so that they could attempt to charge me.

I canceled my membership by phone, and then they still billed my credit card a week later
Shaw Academy is clearly a scam - if they provided valuable services, they would not make it so difficult to cancel a membership and they would not have to be deceitful.

Shaw Academy offers a 4-week free trial. I signed up on impulse but didn't use my account at all, and then canceled 3 weeks in. The website forces you to click through SEVEN pages when you try to cancel, and then they tell you you cannot cancel online, you have to call them, and they can only be reached M-F 9am-5pm ET and I would have to give them my student ID number (XXXXX). I called them on 6/26/2020, their representative tried to sell me to stay, but finally told me I could cancel my membership, but forgot to ask me for my student ID number. I asked them if they needed my ID number, and gave it to them. Now a week later, 7/4/2020, I see that they have charged my card $69.99. I just logged online and it looks like they did not cancel my membership. They said the phone call was being recorded so Shaw Academic should have evidence of this fraudulent practice.

Desired Outcome

Refund my money, delete all of my account information permanently including my credit card info, and allow users to cancel their membership online without going through all of these hoops. Have some integrity.

They scammed me for $69.99 illegally without any notice. The demand for a refund was refused by the company. Now, they are not replying to my emails.
I started a free trial with Shaw Academy for photography class on May 21, 2020. I attended 2 classes when I realized it is not really helpful for me so I decided not to continue. I looked into the account and billing section on my Shaw Academy profile and there was no information on the next billing date or when my free trial is going to end. I followed the steps to cancel the free trial in around 20 days and I thought that it is canceled and I don't need to do anything further. On the 29th day of the free trial i.e. on June 18th, 2020, $69.99 was deducted from my account by Shaw Academy. I was shocked and immediately tried to contact Shaw Academy when I realized the only way to contact them is via email where they reply in 4-5 days or they do not reply at all! They clearly refused me for a refund saying that your free trial was not canceled and it was only for 28 days (although I canceled it) and sending me a link to their terms and conditions. I did some more research (on Facebook, Twitter, BBC News (https://www.bbc.com/news/business-XXXXXXXX), etc) and I realized I am not the only one with this situation. There are 100s of people out there who went through the same. I felt upset that why didn't I read about it before! I sent them one more email (a little bit harsh saying that I will contact my bank and lodge a complaint against you at Revdex.com to have you investigated for fraud). I received a call the next day where I talked with the representative for about 30 min but it was all in vain. He tried to lure me into so many offers and schemes but since by this time I had a complete mistrust with this company, I continuously said that I want a refund and nothing else but he kept repeating the offers again and again on loop, he was not ready to listen to me. I asked him to tell me a contact number or email so that I can contact any higher-ups in the company but he did not provide me with that. As I mentioned earlier, there was no next billing date, the end date of free trial on my account, no way to remove your card details from that page, no way to delete your Shaw Academy account- I asked the person about all this. For all these things, the only thing he said is 'Ma'am because of COVID, we are running low on staff so we could not work on it, we could not notify you, we are giving you worth $699 course for free, try to understand', etc etc. It means that there is a fault from the company's side and the customers have to bear their fault. How is it fair? Ultimately I had no choice but to disconnect the call. Later, I posted a negative review about Shaw Academy on Trustpilot (link - https://www.trustpilot.com/users/5eba330fcdabXXXXXXb67f1c) where they replied and clearly mentioned that it was a 30-day free trial period (and my money was deducted on 29th day of the free trial). Also, they lied there since all the aspects were not mentioned at the beginning, not informed via communication and there was no information in member's area in the account. After that, I emailed them 3-4 times more on different email ids but I am not getting a proper solution to my problem, I am not getting a refund. I don't understand why are they making it so difficult and tedious process for their customers. Moreover, there is no on-call support, no live chat, the only way to contact them is via email where you have to wait forever to get a reply. They are doing this scam at such a large scale in so many countries, I am wondering why are they not banned until now. I have also signed an ongoing petition against Shaw Academy to have them investigated for fraud *** It seems that they have no fear of law and orders anymore. It is torture for a customer to deal with them. It is them who did fraud and the customer has to invest all their time and energy to fight and still not sure how much we can succeed!

Desired Outcome

I have some specific complaint against Shaw Academy - 1. They claim to be an educational company, but all they do is to run after the customer's money. 2. There is no convenient way to contact them- call, chat, email, etc. You can contact only via email, where they either reply after 4-5 days or they do not care to reply at all. 3. They have no specific rules and regulations. For one issue, one person is saying a 28-days free trial, the other person posts it was a 30-days free trial. The same course is $39.99 for one day and the other day it changes to $49.99 and when they deduct money from your account, it is $69.99 and they say the course was for $69.99. 4. They will do everything to keep you in the trap by giving you so many other offers and schemes so that they can steal more money from you. Even though I am sure there is something suspicious in that as well because they do not lay their terms and conditions clearly. 5. The customers' representatives are not helpful at all. They are very unprofessional. They make it very difficult to interact with them because they do not listen to the customer's problem but only try to sell more of their product. 6. They have highly unethical ways of operations. Many people have to suffer like that. 7. I have had other affairs with other companies as well, I never faced this kind of difficulty that I had to fight this much for a solution. 8. If they are claiming that because of COVID-19, they could not update their website, could not notify you, etc, then why don't they consider that because of COVID-19, many students are not getting paid, many have to face other kinds of financial difficulties? All they are doing is stealing money. They are denying to refund customer's rightful money. 9. They post the customer's to such an extent by not replying, by making them confused, by trying to manipulate them so that the customer gives up and does not care about their own money. And Shaw Academy gets to keep all the money. 10. The customers undergo mental harassment by dealing with such a fraud company. I kindly request Revdex.com to look up into this matter and do justice for my issue. Ask them to provide me with a complete refund of $69.99. Moreover, stop them from doing this to anyone else in the future. Take actions based on my complaint and other similar complaints against this company so that they are banned and not able to continue their business because any such company who claims to be an education company but what it only does is fraud- they don't get to have a place in society to cheat more people. The most shocking thing I found is- when I told them I will file a complaint against you with my bank and contact a lawyer, they did not say anything. It seems they have no fear of law and order; and that they are experts in doing fraud! It was very disappointing for me!

Hi,

I have received a refund of $69.99. I appreciate it. However, I would like to clarify from my side that I do not want to continue any kind of course from Shaw Academy now and any time in the future. I can still see that they have my card details and my membership plan shows as - non-renewing status. There is no option from where customer can delete their account. I request Shaw Academy to permanently delete my account so that there is no confusion later (since I do not want to have any kind of business with them).

Lack of proper interface which induces fake/forced purchases.
Thank you for your response. Apparently there's a one click purchase option when you're inside the course(which is very confusing) When you're attempting to cancel this option, the option appears on the screen and locks your screen down. I was literally forced to purchase as no other option was visible on the screen. Also the system was so confusing that all clicks were resulted in a purchase but were actually intended inIin knowing the course. I am being told that the amount cannot be refunded. Sir please check your interface as it sucks. I have reported the same to my bank who are investigating and they have suggested to file an report with police as this is sheer fraud tactics leaving no option with customer than to buy. It's ridiculous that you feel you can keep our funds for a product that wasn't even intented to be purchased. I have lost USD 133 apart from the mental trauma they have given

I am also going to report the same on all platforms because an educational institution can't be in practice with such tactics.

Desired Outcome

I just the refund back on the amount charged by Shaw academy because of poor interface. Only one transaction was legit that they can charge.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
They refund me.

The website promises no charges if you cancel the subscription, but they don't allow you to cancel, neither online nor over the phone.
On June 7, 2020 I have signed for a free online class of Photography with Shaw Academy.
The website said that you can cancel the class at any time before they will proceed with the billing.
After two online class, I have decided to cancel, because I was not satisfied with the classes.
I have begun the cancellation process on the website, but at the end of the process, the page said that you need to call to the number XXX-XXX-XXXX to cancel the class.
On June 16 I have called to the number XXX-XXX-XXXX and the lady that took the call refuse to cancel my subscription. After lot of minutes on the phone, she continues to refuse the cancellation, but she assures that I will not be charged.
Today, July 5, 2020, I get a charge on my PayPal account from Shaw Academy on the amount of $69.99.
I have sent and email asking for a full refund.
The website promises no charges if you cancel the subscription, but they don't allow you to cancel, neither online nor over the phone.

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund of the $69.99 because I have canceled my subscription before one month of the original sign in. The website must offer a clear way to cancel the subscriptions.

I tried to cancel the account before the expiration date. On June 15, I tried to do so on the website. The pages took me to a message saying I need to call to the number XXX-XXX-XXXX to cancel my subscription. I have called and put on hold. The following day, on June 16, I have called again, and the person who answer the phone REFUSE to cancel my subscription despite my insistence. She said I will not be charged. After 5 minutes trying to convince her to cancel the subscription, and the persistence of her on not cancel, I cut off the call.
Your website must have a process to cancel the subscription or your customer service should allow to do that over the phone.
I want my money back.
Thank you.

I signed up for the 4 week free trial and canceled after the first week. They still billed me $69.99 two months later. I need a refund asap.
I signed up for the 4 week free trial in May 2020. After the first week I tried to cancel but could not get a hold of anyone over the phone to do so. I've sent a few emails stating I wanted to cancel with no reply. After the 4 weeks were up I still was not charged so I figured they received my email and canceled it. However another month later at the beginning of July 2020 I was charged $69.99 to my bank account. They just took away the money I had left for my phone bill and will not reply to my emails! I'm very disappointed this happened and I'm looking to get a refund as soon as possible so I can pay my bills.

Desired Outcome

I want to get the $69.99 back that they charged me and need to be canceled for good so this will not happen again.

I was not able to log in to the website days before being billed. I tried on multiple occasions so that I could cancel my subscription, but I couldnt.
I tried on multiple occasions to cancel my subscription, but would receive errors everytime I clicked the button to take me to the log in screen. After I started seeing a bunch of negative reviews saying that it was a scam, I quickly tried to cancel, but to no avail. Many people have even been charged despite cancelling their subscription. The company reopens their account after they cancel, and charge them despite them having cancelled. They took 69.99 out of my paypal account on June 29. I tried multiple times to let the representative know of the issues that I was having with logging in, but they did not care. They also make the cancellation process very hard and drawn out. You have to call on the phone to cancel, although in their t&c it states that not everyone will have to use the phone to cancel. It says a specific "subset of students" would despite not detailing who those students are. I assume that everyone has to because I have not seen a single person who hasn't had to use their automated phone call. After I mentioned that they were a scam and that I may have to take legal action, I was told that they would have to transfer me over to another department, but instead they just stopped messaging me. They have also been caught fudging with their Trustpilot reviews. This company is definitely very sketchy and scammy.

Desired Outcome

I would like a 69.99 refund back into my paypal account and would like for them to change their business practices to something better and less sketchy and scammy.

Signed up for a free course which was meant to be "accredited" courses not as described so did not continue and have been charged £49.99
Signed up to what was advertised as a free course on 7th June. I realised these courses claimed to be accredited online classes but were in fact pre recorded videos with very vague information that I already knew and others could access on the internet anyway. There are options to buy tool kits and certificates which I did not feel the need to entertain also I started receiving loads of calls that were being flagged as potentially fraud so I blocked them, these calls were from shaw academy. Sunday 5th june I was charged through paypal for the sum of £49.99 without any warning. I was unaware I would receive a charge as I did not know these free courses were not free, especially as the service provided is not as advertised. The courses are not real and should not be on the market free or not. They are a waste of time and money.

Desired Outcome

I'd like a refund and for shaw to be held accountable for their awful service, they should not be advertising courses

Signed up for a "free" 4 week trial on 2nd July 2020 and was shocked to see that they had already taken a £49.99 payment on 2nd July 2020.

Everything says free 4 week trial, even the checkout page shows, "pay £0.00 now" but still they took payment.

Only way to contact them is via email, they are open between 4am and 1pm GMT. Which I did on 2nd July 2020 via their online form.

After a response from Shaw via TrustPilot I sent a second email outlining the issues and attached screenshots of the signup page and confirmation payment from PayPal.

They responded saying they didn't recognise my email address and I can sign up at the following link.

Based on the fact I emailed you from my email address used to set up the account AND you have sent more than 10 emails to already to the same email AND I gave my PayPal details, email address and a screenshot of the receipts I find it impossible that you cannot find my account.

I had an email back 6th July 2020 saying after investigating they found I signed up for a 4 week free trial (didn't state the date) but as I didn't cancel within the 4 weeks I was charged, and as per their terms and conditions will not refund me. They have however given me 6 months for free.

How can I have signed up on 2nd July 2020 and already be out of my 4 week free trial? I was charged £49.99 at the time of joining, not afterwards.

Desired Outcome

My money back

I have been charged 3 times for a toolkit ( which was charged twice for some reason) and an e certificate.
I have attended 1 class of my free trial so far and after this class whilst I was looking up what the toolkits contain before purchasing I was charged , not once but twice! I do not think it's fair to charge someone without their consent , I was never asked to confirm payment or anything the money was just taken out straight away , charged at £39.95 x 2 = £79.90

In addition to this somehow I have apparently bought the e-certificate something which I had 0 intention of purchasing and again was charged a further £39.95.

As such, I would like to request a full refund of £119.85. I cannot afford to have this money taken away from me especially during the pandemic where I have been laid off work. I just do not hm think it's fair this money was taken so easily without me being aware of even purchasing anything. I have not viewed or used any of the products , I just received emails telling me I had purchased them and so I think it is only right for me to get a refund. I do not want this misunderstanding to give me a bad experience with your platform....

This all occurred yesterday on 05/07/2020 after my first class , I then sent emails the same date a few minutes later expressing I did not want the money to be taken out and had not given permission nor intended to use any of the packages. Of course I understand it was impossible to get a response so soon via email but after reading similar reviews I decided to bring the matter here so I can get this sorted quicker.

The attached photograph shows the transactions as pending but I can confirm they have now been fully debited from my account and left me overdrawn with no money.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a full refund of £119.85

Your response indicates that you have not read my problem clearly . I am asking for a refund for the toolkits which were charged on my account and the e-certificate not for the trial..

These were accidentally purchased due to the bombarding of ads while I was trying to navigate through my session. In addition to this you lost accreditation on the 24th of July 2019 and so any qualifications or certificates I gain from you are no longer valid yet this is what you still advertise without letting us know this ,which is required by law.

As such I'm requesting a refund for the two toolkits and the e-certificate which comes to £119.85 on grounds for product misrepresentation as regardless of whether I meant to click them or not they are no longer recognised as qualifications but you advertise them as being so.

I have already tried emailing you via the address you just provided but have not gotten any responses yet.

Hai ***, We are extremely sorry for the unpleasant experience with us, We have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged £39.95 GBP for the purchase(Module E Certificate)made via our Auto-renewal option, As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non-refundable charge hence we would not be able to refund that amount, Our intention was not to upset you in any way.

Taken money out of my bank without my permission. Signed up to the 'free' trial and after canceling immediately, I was still charged!
I have email proof and photos of everything here out;

After joining their free monthly subscription service, I changed my mind either the same day as joining, or a day later due to their nutrition courses not really being accredited to my standard of practice.

After a month or so (march time) I got a notification from my iPhone saying Shaw Academy had tried to take £24.99 out of my PayPal account. Screen shot this and contacted you to which I got a generic response, no apology, basically saying my account HAS been canceled. So I must be mistaken (?!)

A few weeks went by and you tried again (were unable due to being no money in that account) so again, I emailed you with a screen shot as proof and again, same as above happened- which is nothing!

2 more times the above happened and I was then told that all my card details etc had been deleted.

I tried to cancel through PayPal but I was unable to because there were no details of pre-approved payment on my account, I'm guessing because you hadn't not actually taken a payment at this point.
No reponse from Paypal team either- due to the pandemic I'm guessing.

I literally had to wait for you to steal this money from my account to prove to you how much rubbish you were talking! £24.99 has now come out of my account, I've now been able to cancel through PayPal.

I want my stolen money back!

As a self employed coach I have not got time to be chasing around after YOU and your incompetent company!! I want compensated for the time I used in raising disputes, emails, calls and so forth to my bank, PayPal and YOU.

Desired Outcome

Firstly I demand my refund of 24.99. I am a self employed coach and the time I have had to spend in chasing this has been a nuisance. I want compensation for the time I have spent not on my clients but on this. Time is money!

My card was billed without consent.
Shaw Academy charged my credit card of $69.99 on the 06/27/2020 after I had spoken to their representative the day before that I was not interested in continuing with the program after the 4weeks free trial. I have been trying to cancel the membership online before the final class without any success.

Desired Outcome

I want my membership cancelled and i want my refund

Unfortunately I have no screenshot of the error messages I got after I had tried to cancel however I spoke to your representative who called me On 26th June 2020 about 12 noon to persuade me to continue with the paid module and I specifically DECLINED, I told him I have other commitments and I cannot afford to continue. He offered me different suggestions on how to accommodate the training, I told him I am not ready. The representative promised to send me an email address to reply to if I eventually changed my mind.I haven't gotten any text message from him till date.

I believe Shaw academy purposively made the process of cancelling almost impossible. I regret ever signing up to your program. I trusted you with my financial information and you violated that trust. I am a student and I need my money back to pay for my tuition for fall semester.

Refunded

There is no way to cancel account online, so even after trying to cancel within 4 weeks I was still charged.
BUYER BEWARE, THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM.

On 7/5/2020, I attempted to cancel my account within the 4 week trial period. During the trial period, I never accessed my account until I wanted to cancel, and I never used any of the courses offered. There are multiple steps to cancel the account online, and at the end the design of the process is intentionally misleading to try to get a user to click the same line where "proceed with canceling my account" except it has been switched to keep your account instead, either to completely mislead the user or to initiate them to go through the multi-step process again. I caught it since I was reading everything thoroughly, but this practice is deceptive and wrong.

At the end of the online process, I was met with a screen to call in to cancel my account, which could only be done Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm EST. This is ridiculous since it's an automated system anyways. There is no excuse not to let this run 24/7. I did this immediately the following day. The call, again, is multi-step, desperately trying to trick users into keeping their account or sending more money.

Because of the time limit, I sent a message to your Twitter inbox that you are no longer authorized to charge my account or store any of my payment information.

Please refund the unauthorized $69.99 charged to my account. I have not used your platform, nor do I intend to use it.

Desired Outcome

Refund or cancel the $69.99 charge applied to my credit card, which I state in writing I did not authorize as of 7/5/2020.

Shaw academy ignoring my emails and request for a refund
I purchased a premium membership from Shaw Academy last year in 2019 agreeing to terms and conditions to a membership that has changed in the meantime other than that I had received no notice of any changes whatsoever made to their memberships but they still would hold me accountable and a deduct another years payment from my bank account and then deny me a refund stating I agreed to the terms and conditions although the membership benefits was different than it is now when I agreed to their conditions.

Ive followed the instructions given by them on their FAQ page in order to request a refund Ive sent them all the information asked of me and even tried explaining to them that I cant afford the yearly subscription since my girlfriend got laid off from work due to the covid-19 epidemic and lock down that followed and that I'm under a lot of financial strain only to get ignored despite sending them emails requesting feedback daily

Desired Outcome

I would request them to take my situation in to account I cant believe them to be this unreasonable and would like to have my problem addressed as soon as possible and please get my money back

Thanks for resolving my problem

No clear way to cancel membership on website and charged my account for a service I don't want or use.
June 4th, free 30 day trial for Shaw academy. Didn't like the courses so I tried to cancel the membership, but when I followed directions for cancelling per their website, my page had NO option to do so. I have tried and tried to contact someone with this company to delete my account and no one has returned my emails or calls. Any phone number is not working. I was charged through PayPal and my bank for the amount of $70.89 on July 4. I would like a refund because I do not want this service and I did not want to be charged to use it during this trial period. The photo below shows where on their website it is suppose to have an option to cancel but there is none on my profile. Just as the website instructed. I feel I was scammed into making a payment I didn't want or had no option to cancel.

Desired Outcome

I just want a full refund

The account was deleted and I received my refund.

Shaw Academy charges for a free trial and refuses a refund.
I had signed up for a "free trial". After cancelling the trial, I was told I did not cancel, even though I had no access to any of the classes anymore. When logging in, a "this username does not exist" prompt came up. The lessons never worked in the first place before cancelling. I only watched half of the first lesson before it stopped loading. They charged me anyways and refuse to give me a refund.

Desired Outcome

Full refund.
