Shaw Academy Reviews (2754)

The Shaw academy (online institute) charged me without authorisation, and they meant to design the functionality for user to pay without confirmation.
The online institution Shaw Academy is based on Dublin Ireland, but the billing address is at ***

Shaw Academy offers 1 month free trial for premium membership, but member must provide the payment info upon registration, I registered on 15th June so I have 1 month free trial, however I have been charged for the premium monthly fee 69.99 USD, and I unintentionally click on the button of purchasing the eCertificate (39.00 EUR) and Hard Copy of diploma (49.99 EUR), and their web system have no any confirm processing of purchasing, I even did not get any notification after being charged through my credit card, things getting more awful, they claim that one of clause under the term of use states "checkout page or single click purchase, refunds cannot be provided without just cause", this is an unfair term, even can be considered as cheating, I have wrote the email to their billing dept ***@shawacademy.com for requesting refund, but they reject to process.

The attached is the invoices for three payment charged.

Desired Outcome

I definitely ask them to refund all the amount paid to me.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 03, 2020

You Shaw Academy has made me not to believe any online institutes, I don't mind what your term or condition is, even a single unintentional click you wouldn't confirm and insist it is not refundable, I have right to report your institute is a online scam all over the internet forums,p globally, you are now damaging your business and your own career( The personnel who is in charge of and the those related to) .

I don't accept your fake apologies unless you actually had refunded me totally, the only thing you keep claiming is your ridiculous "TERMS AND CONDITION", obviously it is a trap, can you really stand firm with this kind of unfair terms and condition? As the screenshot attached, only a single click-on button leads to payment without double confirm, don't you feel guilty? I think I am about to appeal this truth via the social media, platform, forum as much as I can, letting those who interesting the online course would avoid you Shaw Academy

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 17, 2020

We are very sorry for the inconvenience you faced. However we would also like to bring it to you attention that you have accepted the terms and conditions which clearly indicated about the one-click non refundable purchase. Just in case a customer has failed to see that, we have also added a disclaimer on the banner itself. We are sorry to inform you that the refund is not possible. Refund are given in situation where we as an organisation have failed to cancel the account even after the customer has requested to cancel before the trial period. As far as we are concern we have upheld our part of the contract with you. Unfortunately we are unable to provide you a refund.

Shaw Academy

I am very sorry for the inconvenience and this cheating scheme I am facing. However I would also like to bring it to your attention that I have never sign of any acceptance of the terms and conditions which ridiculously based on your own standard, please provide proof. Just in case a scammer has failed to comply with the consumer protection law, I am insisting my legal law as long as I live, I am sorry to inform you that the accepting no refundable is absolutely not possible, DON't EVER THINK I WOULD ACCEPT IT! Refund are given in any situation in terms of the service provider cannot meet the satisfaction of the consumer. Unfortunately I am unable to accept your solution of refusal of refund. I am not sure you may like the post in the facebook about your institution, please see the attachment, you deserve being given this kind of fame!

Hi ***,

We are sorry to hear about your experience and inconvenience caused to you.
Having checked our records, we see that you have purchased the E-certificate and a Hard copy from the course page by clicking the purchase button, so the payment was processed.
I confirm your refund will be reaching your account in 4-5 business days.
We have now stopped the auto renewal and please be assured that you will not be charged way forward until you reactivate it. The membership will be cancelled at the end of term.

Regards,
Shaw Academy

Trial offer extended for approximately 4 weeks, no activity with course when attempted to cancel before trial there was no option to do so.
Total scam
The company has no option to cancel before the trial period ends. I've made several attempts to cancel trial with no success then comes a bill for $69 and still no option to reach customer service via website nor phone. This company is a scam and for them to not have a valid number or email to communicate concerns is a scam to bill unsuspecting people. I've googled and searched through out their website and the search engines to find contact info to complaint but still with no success. They continue to attempt to withdraw funds from my account without authorization.

Desired Outcome

First, I would like the company to stop making attempts to withdraw monies from my account; secondly, I would like the company to discontinue there fraud business model, and third; get a customer service link and phone number.

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 03, 2020

Hai ***, We are sorry to let you down with this experience. However, we would surely want to help you with the same, As per your request, we have gone ahead and cancelled your subscription going forward you will not be receiving any notification regarding this issue.

With Regards,
Shaw academy

I was assured after the 30 day subscription, It would be canceled, but it wasn't. Now I have a charge of 69.99 for a class I did not attend since May.
I subscribed to the 30 day free trial. After attending the class on May 25, I realized how much it would cost to pay for all 4 Modules as well as the class notes/ E-Certificate. So I did not want to waste my time when I knew I would not pay for the other 3 modules or the class notes. After the first class I tired to cancel the membership and terminate my account completely but instead of easily deleting the account, the Shaw Academy site made me call a number to talk to a customer service agent. That same day I called the number and informed this "Student Guidance Manager" named Marlon Adonis that I wanted to cancel my membership and delete the profile because I would not pay for the rest of the modules. He was hesitant to comply with my demand but told me that he could cancel the membership so I would NOT be charged on June 25 and then pleaded with me not to cancel the profile/account since I still had 4 1/2 weeks left of my free subscription. I told him again that I wanted to cancel both the membership and the account profile. That's when he told me that he would cancel the subscription but if I kept the profile open he would provide me with a free Toolkit(class notes) and E-Certificate to finish out the subscription, and I compiled since I would be getting the toolkit, E- certificate and Module 1 for free. He assured me the the subscription would be canceled on June 25 and no further action would be required. Today July 1st I woke up to find a $69.99 charge for June 30th on my Chase account, for a class I thought I canceled and didn't attend over a month ago. I was not notified of this charge through email, so I went to my profile to view an invoice of the payment, only to see a message that says "Token has expired". Of course I immediately called again to cancel my subscription, and a automated robot repeated the same loss aversion tactics offering 4 different special offers and trying to guilt me into keeping the subscription. I refused and finally cancelled the subscription, before receiving another email giving me two months free if I reactivate my subscription. I've emailed the company twice and have not heard anything back, I just want my refund from a company that coerced me into keeping a profile I didn't want then continuing to charge me after clearly stating my membership would be canceled.

Desired Outcome

I want a complete refund and assurance of the cancelation of both my membership and profile account. I will never use this service again so I have no need for my profile.

All I wanted was my money back since I did cancel the service and the account closed. Revdex.com was be able to do that for me since Shaw Academy was not willing to give back my refund.

Shaw Academy processed a charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money when I signed up for a Free 4 weeks trial for a Photography Class
I signed up for a Free 4 weeks trial with Shaw Academy on 6/26/2020. Their guidelines were clear, as long as you cancel prior to 4 weeks end, there will be no charge. I logged into my account to start classes and was bombarded with windows not allowing you to see the content of the course to purchase all kind of offers, I was careful to navigate without clicking on any one of these boxes and still take the course. That same day I found out a charge on my Credit Card for $69.99 and my account had unlocked resources. I emailed Shaw Academy for a refund, they stated, I purchased the resources and will not refund me. I advised I only signed up for the free trial and would like my money back as I did not authorize any purchase of extra services. They are refusing to refund the money. I only signed up for the free trial and that same day I was charged $69.99

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund of $69.99 and immediate cancellation of my account

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 03, 2020

We're sorry to know you were less than satisfied with Shaw Academy and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies. This company as these ads for these course toolkit, which if you click on you will get charged money. Once charged, no refund.
On June 29th, 2020, I signed up with Shaw Academy for a free trial. They were advertising their free trial on social media and I thought I would use my spare time learning something during this COVID19 season. After signing up for a free trial, I registered for a finance course. The next day, while I was exploring the website I notice that there were ads which were displayed something like "get you e-certificate" or "unlock your toolkit". I accidentally clicked on one of them first and I got charged $60 AUD. Subsequently, I accidentally clicked on another one and got charged $60 AUD. I only found out that I was charged for both on the 30th of June since the website didn't really notify me nor I didn't receive an email about the purchase. I randomly checked my bank account that day and found out. Since I thought this was not reasonable, especially when they had no information or warning about this "1-click" purchase and I had no intention on purchasing these products, I emailed Shaw Academy on the 30th of June to ask for a refund. I told them that it was a mistake and I didn't know anything about this system. However, when George replied to me on the 1st of July 2020, he said that the refund cannot be made as the terms and conditions states that no refunds could be made once a product is purchased. Instead, they offered me a $199 credit which includes a "certificate of completion", "hard copy diploma" and a "module toolkit". I simply do no care about this credit as I just want a refund. I had no intention to purchase any product as I was on a free trial to check out what this company offers. I've only watched one lesson. I feel that this "1-click" system is not reasonable at all, as people do accidentally click on these and when accidents happen. Turns out that other people experienced the same problem. All I want is to get my refund of $120 AUD ($119.99 to be precise) and cancel my free trial without no further dramas, as I see people getting charged even though they have cancelled their free trial subscription within the time frame of the free trial.

Desired Outcome

To get my refund of $120 AUD ($119.99 to be precise) and cancellation of my free trial without no further dramas, as I see people getting charged even though they have cancelled their free trial subscription within the time frame of the free trial.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not expect this response. The reason is because the system is boarderline scam. Why would there be on-click purchase ads everywhere in the website. Obviously people will click on it accidentally, and the fact that you unfairly set you terms and conditions, so that purchases are non-refundable, just indicates how dirty and flawed the terms and conditions and the company is. For the sake of the argument, lets say that I cannot receive a refund for something which I have access to (i.e. toolkit). Would it be fair to then give me a refund for the e-certificate? I haven't even completed the course nor finished a final assessment/exam to even qualify for what you call a "professional diploma" (which I also believe is a fake diploma). It does not make sense to not be able to receive a refund for an item which I don't even have. I have also cancelled my membership so I wouldn't be needing one. So to be fair, I should be able to receive my money back for the e-certificate at least. Otherwise, you are taking my money for no reason and not giving it back. How does your terms and condition support that?

Shaw Academy Response • Jul 08, 2020

I have been charged £49.99 after cancelling my Shaw Academy online course before the end of the free trial. I can also not access my account online.
After a week of constant emails, texts and phone calls during my free trial, I decided to end my subscription to Shaw Academy. I deleted the course and cancelled it well before the free trial was due to end. On the 29th of june I was charged £49.99 from my account even though I am now unable to gain access to my account to manage this which is absolutely ridiculous, I cannot access the account to remove my card details and should not have to as the subscription was cancelled in the first place.

Desired Outcome

A FULL reimbursement of the £49.99 and for my card details as well as my account to be terminated.

Shaw Academy have billed my account £49.99 before my 30 day free trial has expired, even though I had cancelled on the second day of signing up.
I had signed up for their 4 week( 28 day free trial) on the 2nd of June. I had then cancelled on the 3rd of June, but did not receive a cancellation email. on the 30th of June 8am, I was billed £49.99. I logged into the account, and had seen that the membership had not cancelled. I contacted shaw academy asking why( on the 30th June) they said it was not cancelled, they cannot refund me as it was after the 28 days( which I have proof it was a lie) Then I left a review on trust pilot, and they have commented back saying that I had no cancelled after 30 days, which is an even bigger lie. I have attached the email of signing up, I have attached their first response back to me on the 28th, and I have attached a screenshot of their reply on trust pilot. Thank you so much for your help!

Desired Outcome

I would like my refund of £49,99 back from Shaw academy, and I would like them to say that they were wrong.

I had recieved a call from Shaw Academy, and had recorded it. After a very long persistant call, I have confirmation that they will be sending my a full refund with in 5 days. I will updated you if my money is refunded.

Refusal of Refund
a payment which was just taken from my account this evening (17/06/2020) of a total amount of £49.99. I am extremely unhappy and frustrated that you have taken the money from me as I cancelled this membership online with yourselves one week after I signed up and yet I have been charged still. I have not used your services once and I have received NO correspondence regarding any upcoming payment as you should be doing with customers. I am now in financial difficulties because you have taken this money from me and I would appreciate if you can refund this amount and ensure this membership is cancelled. This should not be happening and the lack of correspondence from yourselves is unacceptable! I would like a full refund and account closed

Desired Outcome

Shaw deducted money from my account after confirming no money will be deducted
Shaw advertises a four week free course. Only after subscribing do they inform you it is a 12 week course and monthly subscription will be deducted. After reading up on the internet that they scam people I cancelled straight away. I received confirmation email that subscription been cancelled and no money will be deducted. After two and a half months they deducted two payments. After reaching out to them they claim I re activated my subscription same day I cancelled it. They can't offer proof.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund of 2 x RXXX-XX

Thank you Revdex.com. You are awesome

Get your Toolkit banners to trick customers with one click purchase
I singed up for a 4 week free trial to learn Graphic Design. About 30 mins after that, I started getting automatic calls trying to sell me the add on services, followed by flurry of emails. I didn't sit well with me so I logged into my account to cancel the membership on the same day I subscribed for a free trial. On the website, they make it really really hard to cancel your membership. You have to go through 8-10 steps to cancel your membership, and if you used a third party payment service like paypal, then you have to contact paypal as well to deactivate the seller.
While I was trying to do that, I came across a banner that said `Get your toolkit` and it had $39.99 as price mentioned. Like any other services, I clicked on the banner to understand what toolkit entails and the next thing I notice is they charged me $39.99 through paypal. In order to investigate, I checked banners for other add on services, and I notices that they mention `one click purchase` at the bottom of the banner with a smaller font. This is clearly a fraud exploiting users with bait and switch tactics.
I have already cancelled my account, and to make sure they don't charge me again, I deactivated Shaw academy as a seller from Paypal as well.

I formally request Shaw Academy to refund me $39.99 for a tool kit that I never intended to use and haven't used at all.

Thanks

Desired Outcome

I am shocked to see Shaw Academy can stoop so low to make quick money from the users. I request Shaw Academy to refund me $39.99.

Shaw Academy used unethical sales tactics to lure users to click on the banners on their website that result in one click purchase. There were no terms and conditions presented during registration as claimed by them.

In the attached image, you can see how they mention one click purchase with a smaller font and exploit users who don't read everything before clicking on any banner out of curiosity.

Took free classes, did not realize it was a trial & would be charged after 1 month. Can't find anything to indicate I was notified prior to charge.
When I had a charge on my PayPal account I was totally surprised. I contacted PayPal, evidently by signing up for the free classes I took I was signing up for the trial. They flooded my email & texts on my cell phone so much that I began to ignore some of them. Looking back on my messages I saw none that indicated my month long trial was over & I would be charged. But they were able to point it out to PayPal. Now I can't even find anywhere on their website to get out of paying it, for the rest of my life? There was a 50¢ charge at first & then a 50¢ credit. Call me slow, old or whatever, I didn't make any connection. I have had numerous attempts at dealing with them directly and not gotten anywhere. I feel that, although I learned a few things, I was definitely cheated and I am fearful that it will continue if I can't find where to stop it on their website. I am checking "Refund" in the box below for desired resolution. However my second choice would be for information only.

Desired Outcome

Refund of the charge of $69.99 to my account.

They charged me for the subscription even though I had already canceled my free trial within a week of subscribing
I subscribed to the 30-day free trial and within a week I had canceled. the website makes you go through four different pages asking you to stay and offering all these "deals", at the bottom is a very tiny link that says you want to cancel and it leads to more pages offering you more "deals" in order to stay. By the time you get to the final page you're given a phone number and a code to call to cancel which I did only to be greeted by a automated message that repeats the same exact offers as the website when trying to cancel. Last week (06-20 to 06-27) I checked my bank account on 06/25/2020 to see that $69.99 was removed that same day and that same day I emailed and was told my account didn't exist anymore but then later was told I never even cancelled my account which is utter BS and the person emailing me kept offering me more "deals" in order to make it up. it got up to nearly $900 in free merchandise yet they wouldn't refund me even though I acted immediately on the same day and had cancelled already. seeing as how they have done this to many people and seeing multiple reddit threads and other postings about how terrible and predatory this business is I had no choice but to report them. I still want my money back.

Desired Outcome

I want my money back.

Was going to cancel on sunday june 28 which I believed was a day before the final day of my trial but my friend said they had one final class the following day in the morning which they could not reschedule to the 28 of june.I was fine and felt secure about the decision. After my friends last class on the 29 I went to cancel my subscription when I got a notification that I was charged 70 dollars. I immediately emailed ***@shawacademy.com explaining my situation and asking for a refund at 11:30 am the 29th of june and they didn't respond until 4 am 30th of june stating that there was nothing they can do but offer me "399 value" in classes. I signed up for their free trial. Eventually, I realize I don't need their program. So I go to cancel the membership, but instead led to many pages and finally leads me to one last page. It says I have to call a representative, which I do, but that led nowhere. I did more research and there were other people who had the same story. Turns out the business is not accredited by anyone. Due to this I've lost $140 and had to get a new debit card.

Desired Outcome

A refund of $140.00

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I would like to be refunded.

For starters when I first signed up I was part of the free 4 week course. I just wanted to see if this program was for me. However I never ended up using it. When I went to cancel the membership I was given a message. The message stated I would be notified the day before my trial expired. I was never notified so I was charged $69.99.

After I was charged the money I didn't find out until a few days later. So at this point I tell myself to get my moneys worth. Only to find out their practices are a scam. I've read several reviews, heard several complaints. Shaw Academy's education isn't accredited and they taken money from customers account without their permission.

I go to cancel my membership and I have to go through SEVERAL websites before I get to one last page. Where I was told to call them. Other customers have had the same experience and they were on the phone for hours and given the round around. Instead of their plans being cancelled. I called the company, but to no avail I wasn't able to cancel my membership.

Any legit company would require you to hit a button or few then your subscription can be easily cancelled. This company however is a scam. I wasn't able to cancel my subscription, so I had to call my bank and they advised to get a new card and contact the Revdex.com.

This company is not a legit business and something has to be done!

I started my free trial with this company but cancelled my subscription but was still charged £49.99.
I started my free trial with this online school (26th May 2020) that I do not even know what courses they provide to this day, I however cancelled my subscription to them before the membership started (16th June 2020) but was still charged £49.99 on the 30th of June 2020. I tried to contact them but they would not reply me at all. I also found out other people have been scammed by this company the same way they scammed me. There is a whole PayPal forum and a Facebook group dealing with this evil company that would re-subscribe you to their services after your cancellation. My PayPal account is ***@gmail.com that I also use for my business online.

Desired Outcome

I want a full refund of the £49.99 they have scammed me and wish your organisation can list them as a fraudulent business and help others to not fall into their scam

Unresponsive for a refund of toolkit purchased y mistake.
Shaw academy has always called my attention and it was something that I always wanted to try. I have used Coursera and Udemy with success. On June 24th I decide to give an opportunity and benefit of an offer of 4 free weeks. I sign in, and follow the process and I said to myself if this works, I will continue because there are many interesting courses to follow and I invest every year on education to keep my PDU and hours for other certifications that I have to submit.
Problem:
I was ready to start my first session, I received a message from my teacher to download the materials and I did the horrible mistake to open it on my cellphone (small screen) and, without willing I press the button (get your toolkit "one click purchases") that was beside continue learning. So, I was immediately charged with 45 dollars, no questions or validation required. That made me feel like I have just fallen on a click-trap, and I said if it is like that this platform I am not willing to use it because, when you are willing to learn, you should not be stressing with those possibility of adding stuff that you're not willing to have.

I sent an email to ***@shawacademy.com with all of my information and explaining everything to them. Then, I decide to call and I spoke with an agent that told me that she would give me that add-on for free if I decide not to cancel my account, but she wasn't able to help me with the refund process and she addressed me to send an email for the refund. Few minutes later, I receive and email that the toolkit was added for free to my account, but I wanted to solve the issue or at least have somebody to confirm that I will receive my refund back. I called again, and another agent told me that the only way was to send an email to billing, so I decided to cancel my account and close it.
I haven't done any class, even though that they are available, I missed both of them planned for the weekend and I haven't received any reply from billing.

Desired Outcome

I want to have a full refund of the toolkit add-on because I have never used, nor accessed. I am not even following, nor started the courses and I have canceled my account.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

I subscribed to the free trial and they charged me wrongfully. Deceit regarding cancellation process.
I subscribed to the free trial and after getting a phone call from one of their representatives pushing me to sign up for some additional things after the trial, I told him I was okay with the four week trial and didn't want to continue after that. The trial ended and I tried to cancel the Friday night, but Shaw Academy is one of the only sites I've seen where you can't cancel on the computer, a number has to be called and this put me in a jam because it was Friday night, pass the time of their operations. I think that calling step is very deceitful to customers. I checked my account on Sunday only to see $69.99! Taken from my account. I tried cancelling again but it made no difference I still had to call to confirm. I emailed requesting a refund but they haven't gotten back to me as yet, they only got back to me to when I sent another email to them telling me that I had already sent this email. As far as I see, Shaw Academy is more money hungry than anything. I would like my refund to be confirmed.

Desired Outcome

I enjoyed a couple classes of the trading course that I chose and I was ready to market you to my friends until this occurred, I would just like a refund of the $69.99 to be sent back to my bank account.

I had a free trial which I tried to cancel, but they charged me for an unwanted subscription. Now they are refusing to refund me.
I had a free trial which I tried to cancel, but it is impossible to reach anyone. They first time I spoke to a "Charlie G" who told me to contact him if I had any concerns. So, a week later I emailed him (which he told me to do) and got no response. I emailed him again and no response. So, I tried calling them and was met with an automated system that had no option to speak to a representative. Then I saw that I had been charged $69.99 on a card that I DID NOT AUTHORIZE for a subscription that I had been trying to cancel! Finally, after searching high and low I was able to find an email to contact customer "support" I explained the situation and they told me that they could not issue me a refund, because I did not cancel before the free trial expired. I explained the situation over and over to them and even provided dates and copies of emails I sent to them and they still refuse to give me a refund. They offered me "free 12 month access" to their program which I DO NOT WANT. I want a refund for something that I tried to cancel multiple times. I don't understand how the first time I called I was able to speak to someone and right after he disappeared, and when I called the SAME number I was met with an automated system. This seems like such a scam. It feels like they do this on purpose to force you into a subscription that you don't want, so that they can take your money, and try to appease you by offering you "free" things that you don't want.

Desired Outcome

I simply want a refund for the $69.99 that was charged on a card that I did not authorize. I tried to cancel the free trial multiple times and it is not my fault that they make it impossible to contact them.
