I was charged another 6-month subscription for my account that was already cancelled before my 1-month trial ended.
I have used this online learning back when I was on maternity leave as they had a promotion of 50% off for 6-month subscription. Before end of 6 months I decided to cancel my subscription but then they had 1-month free trial which I tried to take and later on finally decided to cancel it for good as I don't have time to do their lessons as I am back to work and busy with kids. Then I checked my current bank statement and I was charged another 6-month subscription for my account that was already cancelled. I emailed them regarding the issue, and the response I got was that they cannot find my email add in the system. They are asking for my full name and credit card again.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund for the charge.

Cancellation not processed properly, charged and refused refund.
I called to cancel within the free trial period but it appears that the cancellation wasnt processed correctly as I was still charged. I called to cancel again, and asked for a refund as per the issues above. The cancellation process is also very stressful, you have to call and it takes about ten minutes of listening to an increasingly immoral sales spiel. I am autistic and struggle on yhe phone. From an accessibility standpoint, the process is unmanageable, it took me five calls in total to repeat the cancellation process twice because the directions constantly push you to soend more money and stay with the company. It preys upon the vulnerable.

Desired Outcome

A refund of £49.99

I reached out to Shaw Academy regarding a accidental purchase of a toolkit while trying to join a class and they refused.
I reached out to Shaw Academy regarding a accidental purchase of a toolkit while trying to join a class and they refused. I explained that I wanted to cancel my trial due to my frustration with not receiving a refund as well as being inundated daily with emails and phone calls. Instead of canceling, they extended another 30 days. I expressed that I was not interested in another 30 days and they refused to honor my request. I receive tons of unnecessary emails and calls daily. While on the phone with one representative, I was being called on the other line by another.
I would like my money refunded for the toolkit purchase that I never used and I would like my membership cancelled.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund for the purchase of the toolkit and for my membership to be canceled.

Shaw Academy Response • Jun 26, 2020

Hi ***,

My apologies for the experience you have had thus far. We have reviewed your account and would like to confirm that we have charged $39.95 for the purchase (Toolkit for Diploma in Illustrator) you made via our one click purchase option. As per our Terms and Condition mentioned to you during the registration this is a non refundable charge, however as a good will gesture I have initiated a refund which will be credited back to the source in next 3-5 business days. We have also cancelled your membership as per your request.

If they follow through, they would have resolved both situations to my satisfaction.

Shaw Academy billed me US$12,99 for only clicking on a popup ad and refused to refund me.
I signed up (ID: they deleted my account from their database but my login e-mail was ***@outlook.com) for a trial course (28 days) on 06.19.2020 and took my first photography class on 06.22.2020. After attending the 2nd class I was looking to take the quiz and I clicked on "toolkit" by mistake (popup ad) and suddenly got a PayPal notification that I had been billed US$12,99
There wasn't even any information about what this toolkit about - no warning of making a payment, just an immediate charge.
The only way to cancel is by calling a toll number over the phone, but when I canceled mine there was no number to call.
They've already refused to refund me, but I won't give up.
I've talked to Preston and Renny, a guy from the support team, so far.
They've pushed me things like a credit to the value of $199 which can be used for your Certificate of Completion and also 3 remaining module toolkit and 1 hard copy diploma and 3 months of additional subscription.
I opened tons of tickets regarding to this: #XXXXXXX, #XXXXXXX, #XXXXXXX. I've talked to my bank and paypal too

Desired Outcome

I'd like them to refund me immediately and send me a proof of this. As well as deleting my account and information form their database.

False charges on my credit card
Shaw academy is big scam. First, they saved your credit card information to start the 4 week trial pack. Then, they charged on your credit Carr without your consideration and your response. After that they denied to get refund and say you try to purchase this things, which you never tried.

Desired Outcome

I wan my refund from them because I did not purchase anything over there.

I never click on the purchase button. They have great market strategy for just one click and I know it. I take extra precaution after seeing one click purchase And I did not touch on that bar, I'm not stupid or robot that I can click on that for huge amount of money. I read on your website, the previous customer has same issue of mine, they also have same deduction. This is market strategy of Shaw academy, first they saved your card Information and then they charged for money which for nothing and response like you bought something.

They just want to convince that I clicked that one time purchase button. But I did not click on that purchase and I cannot prove but tell them that they can prove that how I clicked that purchase.

I never clicked on that and never tried to buy anything on that website. I only start the free trial course which is run about 4 week period, and they saved my credit card detail for the free trial course.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Yes. They provide my refund on card. So I got my solution and I want to close this case. Thank you for all support.

I signed up for 4 weeks free plan but they charged me 69'99$ at the first visit to their website. They literally stole my money. Awful and can't believe it.

I signed up for a month free trial. I attended a few classes and decided that they weren't for me (they were all prerecorded videos). I attempted to call and cancel, but the phone number listed just had this weird music playing. So I emailed on the 3rd and asked to cancel my account. This was well within the month trial period. After a few back and forth emails, my account was "cancelled" on the 10th. I was then charged $69 on the 11th. I disputed this, and they told me there was nothing they could do, even though I had done everything in my power to cancel my account, and it was still within the month period. I wish I read these other reviews before blindly signing up. I've just never had this problem before and can't believe that they're continuing to take advantage of people, especially during a time where many are unemployed and simply trying to better themselves. This company is a fraud.

I signed up for a free trial and on the same day they charged me $69.99??? I sent an email to inquire, they said I signed up for some "unblock module 1" on my end and they refused to refund me. I don't even know what the "unblock module 1" is. I think this website is a scam and I'm not planning to use it. And I would request the full refund of $69.99.

I have been charged for services that I never received. I contacted customer support and have been charged again after canceling. Requiring a refund.
I signed up for a free course through Shaw Academy in April, it also included a complimentary tool kit to help with the courses. The day I decided to begin the course I was immediately charged for the toolkit. I emailed customer support requesting a refund and removal from the program in May. I removed my banking information from their website. Shaw Academy responded with a credit of $200 worth of classes when I was requesting a refund of $39.95 and they refused to reimburse. I have not once used any of their services and was once again charged but this time for $69.99 on June 1st. This company continues to steal my money after I requested a refund, reiterated that I wanted nothing to do with their company and have not used any of their services. I am still receiving emails telling me that I am almost done with my course and should take advantage and purchase a certificate from them. I am simply requesting a full refund for those 2 charges and to cease any further charges.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting a full refund back to my debit card ending *** for the $39.95 and $69.99

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I was reimbursed for the charges made.

The company employs an onerous cancellation process - first online (5 separate screens) then via phone (nearly 3 min, multiple voice prompts)
In order to cancel my subscription after the trial period, I first had to log in to my account and then go through 5 separate screens, clicking "confirm cancellation" on each one. On the final screen I was then directed that I must call the phone number (XXX XXX XXXX) and speak with a student guidance manager. Upon calling the number, no person or representative option was available, even though I phoned during their posted business hours. I was kept in an IVR system for nearly 3 minutes, listening to sales pitches and having to confirm my cancellation multiple times.

I understand providing consumers a "last chance" before cancelling to ensure they don't cancel in error. However, I don't believe that as a consumer, I should be required to jump through so many hoops via two different communication systems (web and phone) in order to cancel my subscription. It's an underhanded consumer practice designed to frustrate consumers into not completing their cancellation.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. Should you require anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

As I did not attend a course during my trial period (did not use their service at all), I would like a full refund or at the very least a pro-rated billing adjustment from the end date of my trial period to the actual cancellation date (5 days).

Shaw Academy made an unauthorized charge to my bank account. I tried calling to get a refund and to cancel but the number I was given was fake.
A month ago I given a free trail to Shaw Academy, before the trail end I tired to cancel the account. I was given no cancelation link or a phone number to call. On 6/19/2020 I logged back into the account to cancel, and finally saw a link to cancel my subscription. At this point there were no charges to my bank account and most importantly I never use any services on that website.

When I clicked on the cancellation link, I was sent through many web pages offering free services until I was given a phone number to call, XXX-XXX-XXXX. When I called the number the same thing happened again. I was sent through many different phone line options until automatic voice machine told me that my account was canceled and I should see a change in my account within a couple of hours.*Without me putting any account information in

On 6/23/2020 my bank account was charged $69.99 after canceling the account. And I have not heard anything back from them.

Desired Outcome

A complete refund of 69.99 and a cancelation of my account with the company.

My parents signed up for me. I am not interested, I have tried several times to cancel my account and can not speak to a real person to cancel.
Free trial 6/22/2020 attempted to cancel 6/23 and 6/24 with just a loop recording, no option to cancel.

Desired Outcome

Cancel account

Signed up for free online course trial and charged $39.95 for non-chosen 'diploma'. Will not refund, and outrageous process to cancel account.
Signed up for free 30 day promotional digital marketing course, looked like decent content. Immediately started receiving a barrage of emails, text notifications re: everything from class reminders to further add-ons and promotions to take advantage of. This was incessant since sign-up - never have I received so much unnecessary communication from an online service. You should see my email inbox - it's unreal! At some point within the 2nd module/class time, a charge showed up on my CC for a $39.95 "E-Certificate for Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing" - a product I never wanted nor approved purchase of other than trying to advance to a next module. Submitted a help desk request to get this refunded/removed, but their response was to tell me that it was helpful for me as a student to have, and then proceeded to offer me the Toolkit for the course (which was more certificates) that I could obtain by clicking on a "Get E-Certificate" button to activate. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me! Not happening. I responded saying this was not what I requested (additional add-ons), and to please refund this charge so that I can then cancel my account. Reply back was saying no refund is possible, but they want to help me by now increasing my trial period to 3 months.
The emails followed a fairly clear escalating script to try and soften the hidden charge. I couldn't get anywhere with a refund, so proceeded to cancel my account. The cancellation process was an outrageous number of screens to click through saying the same thing over and over of how they want to help students succeed, are you sure, we'll extend this, offer you that. I get trying to retain students, I'm a college professor myself. But this was being stuck in an echo chamber of needing to repeat what you want so many times that you nearly give up on the process because of the hassle of it all.
Finally got to the final screen of cancelling my account, and it then says I need to actually call and talk to a representative to authorize that (guidance manager it said, who turned out to be an automated computer voice on the phone). The call was nearly 10 minutes of the same messages of "are you sure?" being repeated over and please select option "2" at the end of the message.

I wasn't impressed enough by the course content (digital marketing) to override the hassle of hidden charges and jumping thru the hoops of canceling my account. I get that everyone's trying to keep people loyal with their product but the product should do that work rather than make the process laborious to this extent. People should know that their signing up WILL cost them in time and expense charges, even with 'free' trial periods.

Desired Outcome

Full refund of the $39.95 "E-Certificate for Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing" Unsubscribe me from all emails/text notifications

The free 1-month online course is a trap!
We tried the so-called 1-month free online course for our son. After one month, we don't think it's good for our son and wanted to cancel. Then we found our Paypal account was automatically charged $69.99 for no reason. Don't know how Shaw Academy/Paypal got this automatic payment setup without our authorization.

We emailed Shaw Academy, but without any response. We logon online and tried to cancel the membership online, it didn't work. In simple word, no matter what you do, they just don't allow you to cancel. Also they list some local phone number to contact, but never got answered.

We searched online and found numerous similar complaints reported online, not just us. So we don't know why how this company can still exist without any further investigation. It's a typical fraud company! Hopefully my Revdex.com complaint will help future victims.

Desired Outcome

Get the full refund $69.99 asap.

You company cannot do business like that. I have never authorized any automatic payment in Paypal, unless you company (with Paypal) set up some tricky way to ENABLE the automatic payment. Also, you company never sent any coming automatic charge notification, which is against the business law. Go to online to see how many complaints against you company about this trap.

Charged without warning for a service that I was cancelling.Their tactics are aggressive.

First I was harassed about attending classes and even after attending the class I was contacted multiple times informing me that I had missed the class. Classes were supposed to be an hour long, they started around 45 minutes and by class #6 were 15 minutes, not to mention the teacher speaks at a very fast rate. I was going to cancel today June 24th but was already charged without warning. This is their information on the invoice:

I went to cancel the account today and was sent through a very aggressive process to cancel which was extremely off putting. I have read on different forums that this is pretty standard for them. I have contacted them and am awaiting their response. Although I am worried as most on reviews have said that they will not contact me regarding a refund. For an 'educational institution' this is completely unacceptable.

Desired Outcome

I would simply like a refund.

I cancelled on the day that the free window had ended. I didn't agree to a renewal, it was forced upon me. After some research this company has been accused of scamming customers in multiple countries. Also the content that was promised was much less than advertised, most classes ended with 10 mins of advertising. Classes were booked for an hour and ranged from 30-15 minutes. None the less, I was charged without warning and they took advantage of customers looking to better themselves.

Coincidentally I cancelled the same day you had charged me, which I thought was my last day of the free membership trial. In addition you do not allow people to cancel online so how would I provide a screenshot? You force people to call a number that then asks you 5 times to reconsider not cancelling, which to me is harrassment. Your tactics are that of a fraudulent company, taking money from people that are simply looking to better themselves through education. Considering I did not use your services after the allotted free trial time a refund is the only resolution.

I do not have a record. I went through the instructions and then was told to call XXX XXX XXXX to finish cancelling, which I did. I have seen many other complaints about this exact same issue, many of which are on Revdex.com. There is absolutely no reason that cancelling a subscription should be such a convoluted process. The only reason I can fathom that the process is so complicated is because Shaw academy is hoping that their customers will not be able to complete it, or will just forget. This practiceipractice disingenuous at best, and fraudulent at worst.

Shaw Academy Response • Jun 29, 2020

We completely understand that our cancellation process is not limited to a click of a button. However any business would try all possible steps(providing better offers) to retain their consumers, which we are not different from. Even though you failed to submit any supporting documents we have initiated a refund which will be credited back to your source within the next 3-5 business days.

The business charged me after I tried canceling my subscription.
I enrolled in the free 1 month trial for Shaw Academy evasive I wanted to see what their photography class was like. They harass you with phone calls almost every day and emails and there is no way to change a setting to avoid this. My last class was on Friday June 19, 2020. I wasn't quite done with the videos so I wanted to wait a day until I canceled. I went in and tried to cancel my membership on Saturday June 20, 2020 but was told that I was going to have to call them in order to actually cancel my membership but that their offices are only open Monday through Friday from 9-5. On Sunday June 21, 2020 I was charged $69.99 for another month membership. On Monday June 22, 2020 I called to cancel my membership and see if I could get a refund for the mistake. They canceled my membership but said I much email their support to request a refund. I got an email back from support saying that I did not cancel it by the end of my one month trial so I was charged and they directed me to the terms and conditions. However, no where in the terms and conditions that I saw did it say you must call them Monday through Friday 9-5 in order to cancel, just that it had to be canceled. I was given 6 months of classes, but with how much they harass you and how little I enjoyed the class I do not want to continue taking classes there.

Desired Outcome

I want my $69.99 back since they didn't inform you that you needed to call on a week day to cancel your subscription.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

signed up for free trial; discovered cancellation could only happen by phone, weekdays only. was charged before I could call to do so; refused refund.
I signed up for a free trial. prior to the end of that trial, I attempted to cancel but discovered that the company will allow cancellations to take place by phone and on weekdays only. because the trial ended on a saturday, I was forced to call the following monday. by then, the company had already debited my paypal account and now refuses to refund my money. I informed them that I would file a complaint if they continued to refuse, but that was not sufficient to get them off the mark.

Desired Outcome

refund in full.
