I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy and got charged wit no notice trial was over.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy and set up a reminder to cancel. However, the only notice I got was a $69 charge to my credit card at THE HIGHEST monthly rate currently on offer. Shame on Shaw Academy! Taking advantage of vulnerable people worried about their futures under this current pandemic. I sent in a complaint through their portal, but have not heard anything back. When you sign on for the trial you're hounded by sales people with non-stop calls and texts and up-sale offers. But when you try to cancel you have to do so by phone and they keep you on a pre-recorded system for 15-20 minutes as they keep trying to get you to stay on. Not only that, I've paid for another month now but was told I no linger have access, so in effect I paid for my free month trial? Shaw is a con. Regardless of what I think about their educational materials, their business approach is aggressive and off-putting.

Desired Outcome

I want a $69 refund. Hope you can help. I see many people have experienced the same or similar issues with Shaw Academy. What does it take for businesses to face harder consequences for their actions?

I was charged for a service I did not receive. I have reached out to the company and they will not refund me the money.
On Mar. 22, 2020 I had subscribed to a free offer for an online graphic design course with Shaw Academy. I used a paypal account for this. I never received any correspondence from the company stating acceptance or membership details and when I tried to login to my account on their website, my account didn't exist. I left it and forgot about it and 4 weeks later was charged $69.99 for a subscription service that was never received by myself. I once again tried to login to an account and was told my account did not exist at login. I reached out to their billing department and requested a refund for a service not provided and Provided them with my email, name, a screenshot of my paypal transaction which included the transaction ID #1UJXXXXXVXXXXXXN2 on April 19, 2020. After many email exchanges with a person referenced as "Gomes" at the email address ***@shawacademy.com, I kept getting the same answer that I don't have a subscription and that they were unable to help me. Despite the proof that I was charged and the fact that they could not locate a subscription for service for myself, they still would not refund the amount charged. I am now able to a access a login account on their website, but I states I have an inactive premium subscription.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund of $69.99 that I was charged for a service I never received.

Shaw Academy offered a free 30 day coursework during the month of April. The company states I can cancel before the free trial ends. Would not cancel
Signed up for a online free 30 day trail. Terms say I can cancel within the free trial and not be charged. Attempted to cancel online. Online said I needed to call a number to cancel. Called the number to complete the cancel. After sitting through multiple messages to cancel, I received the final message saying I will be cancelled but will get an email. Never received an email. Wrote an email right away and they said I did not cancel in time and will be charged. The number I called was the following:XXX-XXX-XXXX to cancel my account. Please use ref: XXXXX. My ref number was never asked. This company is a scam. I looked at reviews and over the past 24 hours, the company is flooded with scam reviews. I do not know what to do in order to get my money back. I have email proof that I requested the cancellation during the month of April and during the free month of April trial membership.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money back and to confirm my card will not be charged again by this scam company.

Dear Student,

Our support team has informed that your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you

Refund for unlawful total $180 payment charged on my credit card thrice in 30 days after the trial period - on 13th April, 29th April and 2nd May.
I had opted for a Graphic Design course on Shaw Academy on 16th March for which they offered a free trial period of 28 days after which the charge was $59.99 - I was not sent any validation or confirmation email for the registration whatsoever and neither a reminder email as they claimed when I was nearing the end of the trial period.

I was not able to cancel my membership during the trial period and was charged $59.99 on 13th April. The course says its a monthly subscription model and I should not have been charged for another month.

However, I was again charged the same amount on 29th April and there is no receipt available for the same. On being charged this unfair amount, I raised a ticket and sent an email to their support team to which they replied that they cannot refund and that all the terms and conditions were mentioned during the registration - which is wrong. They also mentioned in that email that they are themselves canceling my membership and that no further payments will be charged to my account. And that they will offer $399 worth of courses free for 6 months to make things right.

In spite of this, I was again charged $59.99 on 2nd May, again for which there is no receipt available. On top of this, the portal says that my membership will continue till Oct 2020.

This is complete fraud and a scam - they are not responding to my emails now - at all and there is no number mentioned anywhere. I even wrote to their CEO on Linkedin - but no help there also.

I want a complete refund of the extra payments charged to me and completely cancel my membership. I also want all my details removed from their website.

Desired Outcome

I want a complete refund of the unlawful payment charged to my account - i.e the full amount of $180 and the removal of all my details from their website.

I had filed a complaint and requested a full refund but only 1/3 i.e. $59.99 has been refunded.

They charged me thrice in a month's time, a total of $180, which is not acceptable. I want the remaining refund of $120 .

There are no other accounts registered with this credit card.

Also, I checked with the bank - there are no failed transactions. The debits have been done in your name that is SHAW ACADEMY's name.

I am attaching the statement again so that you know. Because of you guys, my entire credit cycle has been affected badly.

I just don't understand how can your team so conveniently refuse that there have been no transactions- since you do not provide any receipts, customers can't provide a Shaw academy receipt - just the bank statement wiht your name clearly mentioned. This is just not acceptable.

Shaw Academy Response • Jun 12, 2020

Hi ***

I have reviewed your account and transaction history and would like to confirm that there was only one successful payment done on 29th April, which was refunded on 17th May. The other three attempts were failed. Please find the attached file for more details and let us if further assistance needed.

Regards,
Shaw Academy.

I am being charged for items I was told are free to me. I have email as proof
I have NO credit card attached to my account profile yet every "toolkit" has been billed to my card first used (never saved). I was clicking to purchase them based on an email that I have a credit attached to my account of nearly $200 to buy those toolkits. I will upload this email as proof. I cannot get the same person to respond to my emails, cannot get a person to call like they claim, and I get the same run-around answer in each email. I believe this is a scam operation and would like a full refund of all purchases based on the fact they've lied and not provided the free items like I was believing them to be! I wouldn't have clicked "purchase" if they weren't part of my "credit".

Desired Outcome

Full refund of 159.80

They refunded one payment made that happened within the past 3 days, which is ANOTHER complaint I have filed with them via their system. This original Revdex.com complaint has NOT been refunded nor dealt with accordingly. I will accept nothing but a full refund due to their continual lies and side-stepping my emails. I have tried everything to communicate openly and directly with them. They are scamming people in my opinion.

I have PROOF in 2 emails (submitted with my complaint) where I'm told I have over $200 worth of credits to use, I do NOT have those credited to my account and in that process you've charged me 5 times, refunded 2. I want the other 3! I'm due those refunds! Shaw falsely used my credit card that was NOT on file (I have THAT email proof as well!).

you said that we can cancel our membership before the end of the trial période. I'm sorry to say it's a lie. We can't do it by ouselves. It's a fraud
On the 7th of april, I registred for FREE 4-week course.before the end of the tria, a day before, on the 5th of march, I wanted to cancel the trial but it was impossible. I was astonished by the message saying that I have to call a number...which was not mentioned before.

I want to cancel my membership without paying anything. Otherwise i wont keep quiet.

I was charged for a product I was told would be free. On the website, the product had no price tag and was misleading.
On May 1, attempted to start a free trial with Shaw Academy, but after realizing their ads are false and misleading, I decided to cancel it. Shaw Academy emailed me an offer for a "Free eCert to showcase your success." if I returned. I returned to the website and saw the link that was labeled "Get eCertificate". There was no price listed next to it, which I'm assuming now was a flaw in the website. At the time, I assumed it was the free eCertificate that I was told I would receive, so I clicked on it to see more details. I was immediately charged without any confirmation. The emails I receive come with multiple names under the same email so I assume they are fake, but the person who told me I would receive the free eCert is Werner P. When I submitted the support ticket, someone by the name of Patrick responded, but it seemed automated. He hardly addressed what I said and tried to upsell me for 200 more dollars.
Despite my multiple attempts to reach Shaw Academy, they have actively ignored me and have refused to work with me. There are hundreds of people online that have had similar experiences with Shaw Academy. They are deceitful, they steal your money, and they are violating FTC e-Commerce regulations.
The headquarters of Shaw Academy are in Ireland, but Ireland has agreed to adhere to the E-Business guidelines that have been set forth by the Federal Trade Commission. Shaw Academy has violated the following guidelines:
- Use fair business, advertising and marketing practices.
- Provide accurate, clear and easily accessible information about the
company and the goods
or services it offers.
- Disclose full information about the terms, conditions and costs of the transaction.
- Ensure that consumers know they are making a commitment to buy before closing the deal.
These are only a few of the guidelines that Shaw Academy has failed to adhere to. More can be found here: https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/plain-language/alt067-electronic-comm...
Now, I have no control over whether or not they charge my account because they do not have an option to delete your information on their website. I did not receive a receipt for the charge.

Desired Outcome

As opposed to going through the extreme inconvenience of disputing the transaction and getting a new debit card, I simply want a refund for the stolen money as well as no future charges. In addition, I currently receive 6-7 spam emails a day from Shaw Academy and 3-4 spam texts. I want to be taken off of those lists.

In a simple "yes" or "no" question, I would have to pick yes only because I got the refund. But in reality, I still receive 5-6 spam emails and 2-3 spam texts from them daily, I had to fight them and send about 6 threatening emails, and they initially said no refund and ignored me. It wasn't until I submitted this did they respond like a normal business. I stand by what I said, don't pick Shaw Academy for absolutely anything.

I cancelled my subscription and they still charged my account. I emailed them and they won't give me a refund.
I signed up for a 4 week free trial with the graphic design course. I cancelled immediately because I didn't like it, but 4 weeks later, I was still charged for a new premium subscription. It cost me $69.99 for a subscription I didn't even want anymore. I checked google and it turns out they've scammed hundreds of people like this, and it checks out because when I emailed them explaining all this and asked for a refund they said a refund was against their "policy". I'm frustrated and poor and struggling and losing $70 really hurts me right now. I just want a refund.

Desired Outcome

I want $69.99 refunded. I removed PayPal as my payment method because I didn't want Shaw Academy to keep charging me. So if that becomes an issue, please work with me on reconnecting my PayPal so I can get my money back, thanks.

Shaw Academy Response • May 26, 2020

Dear Student,

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription.

You can contact us directly at ***@shawacademy.com for refund related assistance.

Thank you

Shaw Academy creates barriers to cancel subscriptions and refuses to refund subscription. No live sales representation, just emails with more offers.
I was drawn to an ad about Shaw Academy on social media and decided to sign up for the 4-week free trial. Over the course of the trial, I realized I couldn't really stick to it. I did not get the reminder email about my trial ending as I thought I would. On my last day of the trial, 4/25, I attempted to cancel my trial both through the app and on the website, but I kept getting offers to continue instead of confirmation. When I got to the end, I was informed that I must call to canceleven though their phone lines are not open on the weekends. I called on Monday, 4/27, and experienced more offers to continue and then was able to end my subscription, even though I was already charged $69.99 for the new month. I was not able to reach a live representative so I emailed a few times and got responses that were less than satisfactory. I was given more offers to continue but they refused to give me the refund. I find that this is dishonest business dealing and, even though the offers to return are tempting, I have lost complete faith and trust in the company. They refuse to acknowledge the details of my situation.

Desired Outcome

I would like a complete refund of $69.99, at minimum, and to ensure that I will no longer be charged even if I decide to take up on their offers to continue. Ideally, I would also like for them to ensure that customers can fully end the subscription on the site and in the app instead of having to call a phone line that is not even staffed by live representatives.

Shaw Academy Response • May 08, 2020

Dear Student,

As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.

We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

I received a refund of all the money I paid and got a thorough response from the business.

They charge my credit card for services I did not request. I emailed them and issue is still not resolved. The again charged my credit card.
In late March, I received a promotion from T-Mobile (my phone carrier) of a free 30 day classes at Shaw Academy. I filled out the sign up information which required a credit card to be used after the promotion ended, if I decided to take more classes.
As I started the classes, using the phone app. the is a nearly hidden button that is a "one touch payment" key, without any other step to review any details for payment (is that a legal practice?). I accidentally press it as I was scrolling thru my classes. I immediately contacted Shaw, by email, (April 3rd,2020)I got a response 2 days later asking for my information, and after I complied on the 7th day of April, they told me (I have proof of the threaded text) that they would look into the matter, explain that usually they don't have access to refund the money over their office, but they would give me 3 free months, and 3 free kits, and so on. I included their email attached below. I requested on two separate occasions that I wanted my money back. on April 13th, and April 21st I got additional charges on my credit card for $39.95 and $69.99 respectively. I will contact my credit card company to place a stop to all charges and to place a fraud alert on this company. They have shown no respect for their word, as they have not comply with their written promise on their email, taking advantage of my good faith ant trust. I do not trust them anymore and I want to file a complaint against them for dishonest practice and fail to comply with their expressed promises of giving me a credit for additional time and classes with free toolkits, as expressly written on their email of April 7th 2020. I am willing to present all written conversations between Shaw Academy and myself.

Desired Outcome

I want all charges from Shaw Academy reversed to my credit card. And stop any other predatory actions against my credit card, credit reporting companies for their wrongful and deceitful activities.

unauthorized debit to my card
I signed up for a 3 day free trial, at the end of the 2nd day I did not like the automated course so I cancelled. I sent several emails (with no response) stating that I cancelled and did not want to continue. The free trail states if I don't sign up for future courses the 3 day will end after the 3rd day. The company on March 16, 2020 debited my card for $59.52 despite my account be inactive and me cancelling. I responded my asking for my refund back to my card and they offered me 2 free courses to inactive account. After I expressed that I was not pleased or was not active. This is May 4th and I still have not received any postive response or my refund and the phone number has been stopped! They also send automated responses. I would like my refund back on my card. I have never seen anything like this.

Desired Outcome

I have never received an offer for a refund. I received an email from Shaw to offer me free classes. They offered me this knowingly that I only took advantage of the 3 day free trial and after 2 days looking it was not happy with the automated class and sent them an email stating I would no longer attend the 3rd class or any class and made them aware I would not except any more from them and would not take part in continuing their services. I cancelled, If you look at my account it is deactivated, yet they offer me to reactivate my account and take advantage of the 2 free courses. I have sent them more than 20 emails stating they had no right to take any money from my card. The response I continue to get is that someone will get back with me. They also, told my card company that they offer me a refund. The way they hand this shows a clear fact that they should not be in business. They have not offered a refund in 5-7 days. And no it is not in my spam.why would you offer someone free classes instead of a refund when the customer has already stated she is not impressed with the automated class and the account is not active. Why would you ask an unsatisfied customer to activate their account and take the offer.

Yes I finally received my refund, thanks to the professional response of Revdex.com. If it wasn't for the actions of Revdex.com I would still be trying to send numerous emails unanswered to Shaw. No one should have to encounter such unprofessionalism.

I recently signed up for the free trial and accidentally clicked to buy the tool kit. I alerted them right away and they still won't refund.
I recently signed up for the free trial and accidentally clicked to buy the tool kit. I DO NOT plan on using it. I mentioned that they can deactivate my account if they want. I do not want these charges on my account, so I asked them to please remove them. I asked them to please reach out when this has been resolved because I repeat, I DO NOT want this tool kit and I DO NOT have the funds for it. I reached out as soon as it happened, so the problem could be solved as soon as possible. They can track my activity and see that I have not even attempted to open the tool kit. I do not want it. I keep getting an automated response saying that it may not be refunded because it has already been put on my account. I repeat, I HAVE NOT accessed it.

Desired Outcome

I just want my refund. I do not have the funds to afford this right now.

Cancelled subscription via email then later charged
I had signed up for a 4 week free course for photography.
after the first couple of lessons, I realised it was not for me and I tried to cancel my subscription online. giving that this did not seem possible, I emailed to cancel.

The response was: "...Having checked your account, we see that you are not under any subscription and the membership status is "Inactive" as you had not entered your payment details while registering. So, there is no need for any cancellation.

Please be assured that you will not be charged for the membership until you subscribe..."

I later found that I had been charged. on looking back on my account with the academy I noticed my payment details were on the system, as they were not previously.

"...On emailing the academy to ask what had happened, part of the response was:

I have personally reviewed your account and found that you had subscribed using your debit/credit card/payment method and availed of a 4-week free trial after which payment would be made. All aspects of this were made clear at registration, within your member's area and via communications. Since you did not cancel during your trial period, payment was processed as per the terms and conditions associated with your membership. Click Here to review the same in particular section 4 and 5.

Our free trial model allows us to bring down the cost of education globally and reach large numbers of students all over the world who want, need and deserve to learn new skills. This free trial model is similar to what the likes of Netflix, Spotify and all other subscription providers offer.

In terms of processing a refund, unfortunately, this is not something we can do as the free trial was made available to you as per the terms and conditions you agreed to upon registration and the revenue has been recognized as per our revenue recognition policies..."

They did however try to offer me free access for a longer period of time.
All I wanted was my money back from being wrongly charged after being told I would not be charged.

Desired Outcome

I am looking for a full refund from being wrongly charged and for my account to be closed.

I signed up for a course that was advertised as a 4 week free trial. Instead, I was charged for it and told I could not get my money back.
I registered for a course with Shaw Academy on April 13th 2020 because I saw an advertisement that a 4 week free trial was being offered. I was required to enter credit card information in order to successfully register for the course. After signing up, I realized my credit card was charged $69.99 CAD by the company. I reached out to their customer support team on April 15th 2020 explaining the situation and hoping to be refunded the money I was wrongfully charged. On April 16 2020, a Shaw Academy support rep named Allen, responded to my inquiry to let me know that I could not be refunded the $69.99 I was wrongfully charged. Instead he offered a 6 month extension of my membership. On April 17 2020 I responded to Allen with some questions about what I was being offered. On April XX XXXX, I responded to Allen's clarification on the 6 month membership making it clear to him that I was not interested in the extended membership opportunity and that I wanted my money back. I followed up on my request on April 28th 2020, April 30th 2020, and May 1 2020 without a response from Allen or anyone at Shaw Academy.

Desired Outcome

I would like to be refunded the $69.99 CAD Shaw Academy charged my credit card for the 4-week free trial offered.

The company does not allow to cancel without phone call which is bogus phone number. Thus, they keep their "right" to withdraw funds from my account
After signing up for a free promotional course of photography, I changed my mind and decided to close the account and terminate any association with the company. However, the company demanded to call them on a bogus number XXXX XXX XXXX with reference number XXXXX from Canada which is impossible. All my attempts to send an email and politely asking to close the account and delete all data were met with pushing me to take the course anyway and ignoring my attempt to close the account. As a result, there is no way to close the account and the company might attempt to withdraw funds under disgust of me "not closing the account" before trial expires (I still have 4 month ahead for the record) This company should stop rogue practice and delete all personal data, including credit card number unconditionally and without arguing. The request to close the account in written form should be sufficient without following phone call.

Desired Outcome

Confirmation that my account is closed and credit card/account information is permanently deleted from all servers of the company.

Bad customer service and took money without permission
At the end of March I signed up for a trial course in playing guitar for my 12 year old son - if he liked the course his father was to continue funding it. A day or two into the course he said it was 'boring' and too basic for him (as he already plays). I emailed Shaw on both 29th and 31st of March to ask to cancel the course as we weren't interested. I received an email after my first, trying to persuade me to stay but on 31st I confirmed I wanted to cancel - I suffer from extreme anxiety, panic attacks and depression so I very rarely use the telephone and could not call - however, a month later I received a PayPal receipt saying Shaw had taken £50 from my account.....I have repeatedly emailed support to ask why, they said I never cancelled and have ignored me. But I did cancel. I receive £65 a week at the moment due to Covid and they took £50 of it.... I had to borrow from my disabled mother to feed my family last week. I would like a refund which they are refusing - as you can imagine I am not very happy.

Desired Outcome

£49.99 refund immediately

I signed up for the free trail. after a week I saw it wasnt going to work, havingto keep to their schedule of learning, so I cancelled.
they've since charged me a total of $150 and it forever to cancel using their phone system, and I can't seem to reach a person to get my refund! considering leag action if they don't respond to my email.

Desired Outcome

the app crashed and clicked on random button, I then received an email charged £39.99. I did not use or intend to buy this, I require a refund
the app crashed and when I click on watch video it cliked on one clikc purchase. I cannot cancel this action , I have no use for the tool kit and have not opened , I immediently canceled my free trial, as I cannot believe they charged me without my permission. I will not pay for it, as I have not used it, and very unhappy with this.

Desired Outcome

I would like my refund back to my account on Paypal.
