I signed up for a course that was advertised as a 4 week free trial. Instead, I was charged for it and told I could not get my money back.
I registered for a course with Shaw Academy on April 13th 2020 because I saw an advertisement that a 4 week free trial was being offered. I was required to enter credit card information in order to successfully register for the course. After signing up, I realized my credit card was charged $69.99 CAD by the company. I reached out to their customer support team on April 15th 2020 explaining the situation and hoping to be refunded the money I was wrongfully charged. On April 16 2020, a Shaw Academy support rep named Allen, responded to my inquiry to let me know that I could not be refunded the $69.99 I was wrongfully charged. Instead he offered a 6 month extension of my membership. On April 17 2020 I responded to Allen with some questions about what I was being offered. On April XX XXXX, I responded to Allen's clarification on the 6 month membership making it clear to him that I was not interested in the extended membership opportunity and that I wanted my money back. I followed up on my request on April 28th 2020, April 30th 2020, and May 1 2020 without a response from Allen or anyone at Shaw Academy.
Desired Outcome
I would like to be refunded the $69.99 CAD Shaw Academy charged my credit card for the 4-week free trial offered.

unauthorized debit to my card
I signed up for a 3 day free trial, at the end of the 2nd day I did not like the automated course so I cancelled. I sent several emails (with no response) stating that I cancelled and did not want to continue. The free trail states if I don't sign up for future courses the 3 day will end after the 3rd day. The company on March 16, 2020 debited my card for $59.52 despite my account be inactive and me cancelling. I responded my asking for my refund back to my card and they offered me 2 free courses to inactive account. After I expressed that I was not pleased or was not active. This is May 4th and I still have not received any postive response or my refund and the phone number has been stopped! They also send automated responses. I would like my refund back on my card. I have never seen anything like this.
Desired Outcome
A refund back to my card

I have never received an offer for a refund. I received an email from Shaw to offer me free classes. They offered me this knowingly that I only took advantage of the 3 day free trial and after 2 days looking it was not happy with the automated class and sent them an email stating I would no longer attend the 3rd class or any class and made them aware I would not except any more from them and would not take part in continuing their services. I cancelled, If you look at my account it is deactivated, yet they offer me to reactivate my account and take advantage of the 2 free courses. I have sent them more than 20 emails stating they had no right to take any money from my card. The response I continue to get is that someone will get back with me. They also, told my card company that they offer me a refund. The way they hand this shows a clear fact that they should not be in business. They have not offered a refund in 5-7 days. And no it is not in my spam.why would you offer someone free classes instead of a refund when the customer has already stated she is not impressed with the automated class and the account is not active. Why would you ask an unsatisfied customer to activate their account and take the offer.

Yes I finally received my refund, thanks to the professional response of Revdex.com. If it wasn't for the actions of Revdex.com I would still be trying to send numerous emails unanswered to Shaw. No one should have to encounter such unprofessionalism.
They charge my credit card for services I did not request. I emailed them and issue is still not resolved. The again charged my credit card.
In late March, I received a promotion from T-Mobile (my phone carrier) of a free 30 day classes at Shaw Academy. I filled out the sign up information which required a credit card to be used after the promotion ended, if I decided to take more classes.
As I started the classes, using the phone app. the is a nearly hidden button that is a "one touch payment" key, without any other step to review any details for payment (is that a legal practice?). I accidentally press it as I was scrolling thru my classes. I immediately contacted Shaw, by email, (April 3rd,2020)I got a response 2 days later asking for my information, and after I complied on the 7th day of April, they told me (I have proof of the threaded text) that they would look into the matter, explain that usually they don't have access to refund the money over their office, but they would give me 3 free months, and 3 free kits, and so on. I included their email attached below. I requested on two separate occasions that I wanted my money back. on April 13th, and April 21st I got additional charges on my credit card for $39.95 and $69.99 respectively. I will contact my credit card company to place a stop to all charges and to place a fraud alert on this company. They have shown no respect for their word, as they have not comply with their written promise on their email, taking advantage of my good faith ant trust. I do not trust them anymore and I want to file a complaint against them for dishonest practice and fail to comply with their expressed promises of giving me a credit for additional time and classes with free toolkits, as expressly written on their email of April 7th 2020. I am willing to present all written conversations between Shaw Academy and myself.
Desired Outcome
I want all charges from Shaw Academy reversed to my credit card. And stop any other predatory actions against my credit card, credit reporting companies for their wrongful and deceitful activities.

Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.
I have enrolled at Shaw Academy on the 4th of May 2020. On the 5th of May 2020 I tried multiple times to cancel my membership, but seem to fail.
On the 4th of May 2020 I enrolled at the Shaw Academy on a 4 Week Free Trial for Graphic Design. The same day(The 4th of May) and the day after (the 5th of May 2020), I emailed Shaw Academy to cancel my Free Trial Membership. (Email ID Number 1: #XXXXXXX Email ID Number 2: #XXXXXXX) I was left with no response. When I tried to contact them via call/phone, the number was invalid, and therefore felt like I had nowhere to turn. When enrolling I was obligated to give Shaw Academy my Banking details, and was ensured that no money will be taken from my account, if I cancelled my membership before the free trial was over.
After spending some time reading reviews on the struggle that some people find themselves in to get out of their free memberships AND then after they have cancelled get charged anyway, I had to try getting help from a responsive/reliable resource. Hence my complaint. This complaint is to prevent money being taken from me illegally.
Desired Outcome
The resolution that I seek from Shaw Academy is a confirmed cancellation of my Free 4 Week Trial Membership for Graphic Design AND proof of guarantee that no money will be charged to my debit card, as I stayed within my requirement to end my membership before the 4 Week Free Trial has ended.

They are not ready to listen to my complaint now when they are charging from my account without any prior notice and they are delivering us the right services. I was overcharged and want a refund
I signed up for a free trial course on digital marketing on the 12th of April, 2020. I tried to cancel my membership about 2 weeks before the trial ended but I was offered a 3-month membership at a discounted rate of NGN 2,750 a month. This felt like a good deal to me especially because I thought I would be charged monthly. But on the 1st of May, I discovered that I had been debited NGN 13,900 which is way above what I was offered even if I had to be charged at once. I have sent mails and still haven't gotten a favourable response. I am terribly disappointed because I feel like I have been scammed. I am requesting for a refund of my money or at least the excess of NGN 5,650.
Desired Outcome
I am requesting for a refund of the excess amount charged for a 3 month subscription bearing in mind that it was offered at NGN 2,750 monthly.

They charged me for a month after I cancelled and even sent them proof that I had cancelled a month prior and told me they couldn't give me a refund.
I signed up for a free trail through my cell phone carrie. I cancelled my membership on April 1st, I have an email to prove that I cancelled and on April 28th they charged my card $69.99. I have reached out to them with the email showing I cancelled and they will not refund my money instead they are saying that they will give me so many months free even though when I cancelled it was because I never did ANY course work because I didn't have the time between work and everything else. They told me a refund was not an option and that I knew I would be charged for the month if I didn't cancel in time and I explained to them again that I cancelled on April 1st and even sent them the proof. When I cancelled on April 1st they made me send an email to confirm my cancellation. I have not done not ONE course or class and they were not authorized to charge me considering I cancelled my membership just a few days after signing up for a 4 week trial. The company was responding to me by email and have stopped after I sent them the proof that I cancelled. I have not heard from them since.

I have reached out to Shaw Academy to be refunded and they said they would not do that, I replied and never received a response back. The website stated that if you cancel within the first 30 days there will be no charge. I signed up and cancelled the very next day, and they sent me an email confirmation the cancellation. So when I emailed them and they totally disregarded there policy and my complaint I was very disappointed. All I wanted was to be refunded the money they were suppose to take. I am happy that my money is being refunded, that is all I wanted from the beginning.
Shaw Academy made an unauthorized transaction of $34.95 on April 3, against my credit card, for a "toolkit" I did not willingly agree to purchase.
Shaw Academy made an unauthorized transaction of $34.95 on April 3, against my credit card, for a "toolkit" I did not willingly agree to purchase. I had registered for a "Free" photography course and took my credit card number during registration (they would charge a subscription fee if I didn't cancel within 30 days). Before the first webinar they sent a message to my cell phone to inform me that the course was starting. The message included a link to click on to access the course. When I clicked on it I was notified that I purchased a supposed "toolkit" for the course which cost $34.95. I immediately submitted an inquiry to their support centre and asked them to refund my credit card for the unauthorized transaction, and to cancel my account. They responded saying they couldn't access my account, questioning which email address I used for registration. I went back and forth with someone from billings for 3 days (4 separate email responses to their emails) and they finally said they found my account but couldn't refund me because the toolkit was already made available, but they would provide 3 other modules and a hard copy diploma which I didn't want. When I logged into my account on their website there were no modules or a toolkit in my account. I would like Shaw Academy to provide a refund.
Desired Outcome
this is their response my last email sent on April 10th.

Hi ***,
Thank you for contacting us.
I was able to pull up your account using - ***@outliok.com
I see that you have purchased the Toolkit shown in your members area, course page, pop-up banner and email.
Your Toolkit includes Webinar Slides for every lesson, Summary Notes for every lesson and Bonus Videos and has proven to be very popular as supporting materials for your classes and revision notes as well. Students using Toolkit very often have both higher completion rates and grades for their courses.
You can also download these materials and save them on your device for future reference even after your access period expires.
You can access the toolkit resources under the "Resources" tab on your course page through your student login area (http://www.shawacademy.com/login.php) using a web browser.
Once the Toolkit is activated in your account it is made available to you and we have transferred the content to you hence it cannot be disabled as it was provided therefore, we cannot refund.
However, we at Shaw Academy do want to ensure you benefit thoroughly from our services. Our mission is higher education at lower cost and my role is to ensure you achieve your learning outcomes, gain the skills you want and need and enjoy the process as well. I have therefore taken the liberty of speaking my manager and we would like to offer you credit to the value of $199 which can be used for 3 remaining module toolkits and 1 hard copy diploma. This is far in excess of what you paid and you have had access until now and will continue to do so for life.
I have activated this for you in your account, so you have 3 additional toolkits and a hard copy for free now.
All that is left to say now is that attending your lessons is key to succeeding, you started with real goals and all you need to do is attend one class at a time and you will achieve them.
We pride ourselves on our product and the high-quality standards we maintain. We would like to make things right.

It's exactly what I was looking to get.
Unauthorised payment of £49.99 taken from my bank account after cancellation of one-month free membership one week after sign-up.
I took out a free one month membership with Shaw Academy, as advertised on their Instragram page. One week later I decided it was not for me and wanted to cancel my membership. I was fed-up of being continually harassed by phone, email and WhatsApp. I also came across appalling feedback and numerous similarly troubling reviews and experiences with their service from other unsuspecting people.
Shaw Academy terms and conditions state students can have a free trial period before subscribing to paid membership. Cancelling the free trial before the period is over will mean no charges will be incurred. Accordingly I cancelled my free trial on 7 April - less than one week after it began.
I visited their website where it said to call a phone number to cancel. I called the number and it sent me around in circle for more than 15 minutes before I finally got to the end of long-winded prerecorded message full of incentives designed to make you stay, only to be told to email ***@shawacademy.com to cancel my membership. I did so, only to find the email address did not exist and my email bounced back.
Shortly afterwards I emailed ***@shawacademy.com to help. I received an email informing me my account would be cancelled in a few days and that I could access my account until the end of the free trial period. These emails were given the ticket reference number of #XXXXXXX.
So you can imagine my horror when, a few days ago, I checked my bank account to find Shaw Acadmey have taken an unauthorised payment of £49.99 from my bank account - despite their staff telling me on 7 April my membership was cancelled and no payment would be taken.
I emailed ***@shawacademy.com to find out why this was and was told that I did not get in touch to cancel my membership, and as the terms and conditions of the free trail state, payment would be taken when it came to an end - however, I have emails to prove I did. This seems to be a generic email sent to anyone they take an unauthorised payment from and was not specific or relevant to my situation. In the email, they clearly state they are not going to give me a refund and put the blame on me for not cancelling before the end of my trail period - even though I have proof I did.
I have proof of the cancellation emails I sent on 7 April and have sent screenshots to their customer service team. My request to cancel was logged under the ticket number #XXXXXXX - Shaw Academy can check this in their system.
Please refund the £49.99 taken without authorisation.
Kind regards
Desired Outcome
I want the £49.99 taken without authorisation from my account refunded. Should this not happen I will have the unauthorised payment investigated with my bank, who have already told me they will investigate and dispute the transaction.

Charged for a subscription after I requested for my account to be cancelled.
On April 1st I subscribed to Shaw Academy. I was offered a free trial and then I would be charged after the free trial ends if I didnt cancel.
That same day I realized they charged my card via paypal, so I sent them an email immediately asking for a refund and to cancel my subscription. I was refunded immediately, as a result I thought my subscription was cancelled. I could not find anywhere on the website to cancel and there was no number to call, hence the email was sent.
On April 29 they charged me another 69.99. I immediately emailed them again and requested a refund and advised them that I did not have any subscriptions with them. I don't even use the free trial, I have not even started any course and will not be doing. Someone responded to.me 3 days after and told me that I could not get a refund.
I.explained to them over and over that I had ask for them to cancel my account, I even sent them the emails. They still refuse to refund me.

Got my full refund
I am trying to cancel my trial subscription to Shaw Academy for a photography course. The number I am forced to call to cancel is out of service.
I signed up for the free 4-week photography course today (May 3, 2020). After going to the app store to download the Shaw Academy app, I decided to read some of the reviews for it. After reading the reviews, I realized that this was a shady, scam business that would make it near impossible for me to cancel in the future (I was given until May 31, 2020 to cancel until I would be charged). In the interest of avoiding the scam and wasting my money, I set out to cancel my free trial the same day I signed up for it (May 3, 2020). After having to confirm about 5 times that I wanted to cancel, I was given a number to call. This number was "XXXX XXX XXXX". This is not in the format of a U.S. number. I called this number, and as expected, it did not work. Thinking it might be a typo, I also called "X XXX XXX XXXX " and "XXX XXX XXXX". Neither number is in service. Calling that number is the only way to cancel my account and prevent a complete waste of 70 dollars that would fall into the hands of this illegitimate business. The only option they have given me to prevent this from happening is to call that number, which does not seem to be a real U.S. phone number.
Desired Outcome
I selected "Other", because I have not yet been charged anything, therefore I cannot have a refund. I want Shaw Academy to cancel my account/free trial. The only way they've given me is to call a number that does not exist

Thank you, but they have responded to me once I contacted them a few times through email to cancel my account, so my issue has been resolved. However, for others in a similar case as mine, Shaw Academy should still use a valid US number if they claim that is how you have to cancel your account. Obviously that's not entirely true because over email appears to work as well.
I requested a subscription cancellation within 24 hours of signing up and they have charged me and refused my refund request
I enrolled in the shaw academy and within 24 hours wanted to cancel my course. I was unable to do it online so I emailed support. They got back to me a few days later saying my subscription was cancelled. A month later a payment was taken out of my paypal. I have contacted Shaw Academy multipul times through their support email and each time they have blatantly ignored my request to have my subscription cancelled AND to be refunded.
I have just phoned the number that they finally give you when you try and go through the process of closing your account online. I didn't actually end up talking to anyone but after them offering me everything but steak knives I (fingers crossed) have finally cancelled my account.
I don't know what else to do if this is just another one of their hoaxes.
This has been the worst experience ever.
Desired Outcome
I would like the unauthorised payment that was taken from my paypal account refunded.
I have emailed their support address multipul times and each time my requests have been ignored. They respond to me offering me more for my subscription, I don't want more I just want a refund.

Shaw Academy Response

Dear Student,
Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.
I would like to be refunded the $69.99 CAD Shaw Academy charged my credit card for the 4-week free trial offered.
Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

unauthorized debit to my card
A refund back to my card

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Dear Student,
Your refund was processed as per your request. Please check with your bank to confirm any issues with the settlement in your account.
Thank you

Thank you
I have enrolled at Shaw Academy on the 4th of May 2020.
Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. Please be assured that you will not be charged way forward.
Thank you

The company charged me 279.95 cad without my approval or permission and now they are not offering any refund or not replying back for my issue inquiry
To whom it may concern
Shaw academy charges me 279.95 cad without my approval or permission from my credit card account and didnt deliver the service they promise for, now when I want my refund they are not answering the calls or replying my emails. They are not ready to listen to my complaint now when they are charging from my account without any prior notice and they are delivering us the right services. They haven't send any receipt to me and now we are not able to change our payment details from our billing profile in their mobile app. I am not happy with their services, and I dont their services in the future as well.
I want this business to refund my money back and contact me so that i can talk to representative regarding the courses i am learning right now.

I am requesting for a refund of the excess amount charged for a 3 month subscription bearing in mind that it was offered at NGN 2,750 monthly.

Similar to the other complaints against this firm, I was billed for a 'free' class that I did not want to continue.
signed up for a free online class and was subsequently billed AFTER I indicated I did not want to continue..

I want my card credited back the $69.99 they took out.

Shaw academy charged an unauthorized payment to my credit card. I have an email confirming my cancellation and they just charged me. Would not recomme
I was emailed to confirm my cancellation on April 7th, 2020. My issue number was #XXXXXXX. I was charged today .

I would like Shaw Academy to provide a refund.
this is their response my last email sent on April 10th. Gomes (Shaw Academy) Apr 11, 07:39 IST Hi ***, Thank you for contacting us. I was able to pull up your account using - ***@outliok.com I see that you have purchased the Toolkit shown in your members area, course page, pop-up banner and email. Tried to cancel membership, but phone number XXXX XXX XXXX on cancelation page was not active. Emailed for cancelation, but still processed payment.
on April 30th I've tried to cancel my subscription on their website and it lead me to a number to call to confirm the cancelation XXXX XXX XXXX. I tried calling the number and it was not active.
I want the £49.99 taken without authorisation from my account refunded. Should this not happen I will have the unauthorised payment investigated with my bank, who have already told me they will investigate and dispute the transaction.

I signed up for a free trial and when I called to cancel, I was told that my money would not be refunded. This is unacceptable
I signed up for a 4-week free trial, in which I never utilized. I selected a particular card with my PayPal for authorized payments however another card was used to debit my account.
I contacted shaw academy on 4/20 via email...I was informed that my payment would not be refunded although an unauthorized card was utilized for the transaction. This company is using predatory tactics which is totally turning me off from ever wanting to do business with them. Refund my money acct #XXXXXXX

I would like to be refunded my 69.99
Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription. We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

I would like the unauthorised payment that was taken from my paypal account refunded. I have emailed their support address multipul times and each time my requests have been ignored. They respond to me offering me more for my subscription, I don't want more I just want a refund.
Dear Student,
Our support team has informed that your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Hello.
Please help me.
