I have enrolled at Shaw Academy on the 4th of May 2020. On the 5th of May 2020 I tried multiple times to cancel my membership, but seem to fail.
On the 4th of May 2020 I enrolled at the Shaw Academy on a 4 Week Free Trial for Graphic Design. The same day(The 4th of May) and the day after (the 5th of May 2020), I emailed Shaw Academy to cancel my Free Trial Membership. (Email ID Number 1: #XXXXXXX Email ID Number 2: #XXXXXXX) I was left with no response. When I tried to contact them via call/phone, the number was invalid, and therefore felt like I had nowhere to turn. When enrolling I was obligated to give Shaw Academy my Banking details, and was ensured that no money will be taken from my account, if I cancelled my membership before the free trial was over.
After spending some time reading reviews on the struggle that some people find themselves in to get out of their free memberships AND then after they have cancelled get charged anyway, I had to try getting help from a responsive/reliable resource. Hence my complaint. This complaint is to prevent money being taken from me illegally.
Desired Outcome
The resolution that I seek from Shaw Academy is a confirmed cancellation of my Free 4 Week Trial Membership for Graphic Design AND proof of guarantee that no money will be charged to my debit card, as I stayed within my requirement to end my membership before the 4 Week Free Trial has ended.

I want to cancel my free trial and they are not reachable. They didn't call me back and when I called again said closed yet too early to be closed.
Today, May 4th, I tired to cancel my free trial that I just signed up for a few days ago. After about 4 or five times of pushing buttons to cancel, it says I have to call a number and give a reference number. I called around 4 and the recording said all employees were busy and someone would call back. No one called back, so I tried calling at 7:10. The recording now says they are closed yet it said they are open until 8pm eastern time. I feel as if they are making it so I cannot cancel and they can try and take my money after four weeks. They also charged my card .50 when it was said they wouldn't charge anything during the trial.
Desired Outcome
I do not want to be charged for something I cannot cancel. So just proof of cancelation would be all I want.

Cancellation policy over complicated
I applied for a free 30-day course, but now I'm trying to cancel, firstly I had to go through more than 5 pages saying that I wanted to cancel just to realize in the end that I need to make a call to request the cancellation!?
I don't think this is fair, I didn't have to call anyone to apply, but to leave is mandatory.
Desired Outcome
Just want to cancel without having to call a boring call center.

Cancelled free trial with customer service, confirmed they cancelled, then upgraded me to a premium membership instead + refuse refund.
Hello, I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy. I set up a reminder to cancel the month long free trial, then decided I didn't want to do the class and cancelled after a week. Since it doesn't let you cancel online, I called to cancel and went through the process with a customer service rep. There is a screenshot below of my confirmation cancellation email. The customer service representative cancelled my membership. Instead of CANCELLING my membership, they upgraded my to a 69.99 premium membership. I just cancelled my "premium membership" that I NEVER paid for, but the business is not available for contact other than through email. They refuse to refund.
Desired Outcome
I would like the return of my 69.99 because the customer service representative said my account was cancelled but upgraded my membership instead.

I have reached out to Shaw Academy to be refunded and they said they would not do that, I replied and never received a response back. The website stated that if you cancel within the first 30 days there will be no charge. I signed up and cancelled the very next day, and they sent me an email confirmation the cancellation. So when I emailed them and they totally disregarded there policy and my complaint I was very disappointed. All I wanted was to be refunded the money they were suppose to take. I am happy that my money is being refunded, that is all I wanted from the beginning.
Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money. I started a trial and canceled 2 days after starting.
I signed up for a 4 week trial and I noticed that their business was not for me. They baited me in with a trial of course but it's the really just the first module. There are microtransactions that require you to purchase "tool kits" and extra modules to further your learning progression. I saw huge paywalls (shady), decided it was not for me and canceled my membership 2 days after.
On April 23, 2020 I was charged a $69.99 payment to my account. I immediately emailed their support to request my money back and was denied stating my account wasn't canceled and, since I submitted my card info, I was legally bound to being charged. The ONLY way to start the trial was to provide a card number and the terms were if I cancelled before the trial ended I would not be charged. Canceled (for some convenient reason it didn't register?) and still I was charged.
I requested the last date I accessed a course and actually used their services; still awaiting a response but I'm not holding my breath here. I should not be paying for a service that I did not, have not used; no service rendered should be no payment garnered.
The paywalls felt wrong to me but the baiting with trial then hits with reoccuring monthly fee is down-right unethical. To add salt on wounds, after every email correspondence there would be a pitch to sign me back up for their services. Seriously? I should've checked with Revdex.com prior to signing up to see previous complaints to steer clear of this company.
Desired Outcome
Refund in full.

Dear Student,
Your refund has been processed as per your request. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.
Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my EXPIRED credit card after I had already cancelled any future membership payments.
I recently signed up for a 4 week free trial graphic design course in which I was required to add my credit card information to access my trial. The day after I signed up, I logged in to ENSURE I was not enrolled in any paid programs and cancelled any future "automatic enrollments." I then deleted my credit card as an extra step to be cautious.
On 4/25 they charged my card for $69.99. This card was EXPIRED on 3/31/20. I never activated the replacement, I did not give them a new expiration date or CVV code, so I assume the just guessed at these numbers and eventually found the right ones and charged this card WITHOUT my authorization.
I then emailed them to explain and they refused to process a refund as "I agreed to the terms and conditions upon sign up for my free trial." Even though I cancelled and deleted my card. I had to go back in and cancel AGAIN to ensure I would not be charged further.
I am demanding a refund at this point and will report fraud to my financial institution and receive legal representation (at no cost don't worry) to retrieve every penny of this stolen money along with any late fees and interest on this credit card in the process.
Desired Outcome
I would like to be processed the full refund of $69.99 that you illegally processed and proof of cancellation of my account along with it so I know that you will never charge me again.

Signed up online. Received no email or confirmation of details and no reminder to cancel.
I came across Shaw Academy on 22 march where I signed up for a one month free trial. I received nothing from them in terms of verification that I had signed up, no email, text, nothing. I assumed that the details had no gone through until a payment of £49.99 came out on 21 April. I contacted them and they said they would cancel all future payments and said I could I have 6 months free access to lessons. They said they could no issue a refund. I replied to say that I didnt want the lessons and they still would not issue a refund and offered me 12 months lessons which I accepted. The whole practice is such a scam. Feel so embarrassed that I fell for this.
Desired Outcome
I would like a refund of my £49.99. I went in to the site and clicked on another button to find out more about a product they were offering and it was instant purchase so another £39.95 came out of my account immediately. I am therefore looking for a refund of £89.90.

I am grateful that they have refunded the £39.95 for the instant buy that I did not want.
I still have a problem with the fact that they sent absolutely no communication to confirm that I had signed up, with no details of when I had to cancel by, there was no reminder to say that the payment date was getting near. Without this information, I had no chance to cancel. There actually is no chance to cancel at all.

Dear Student,
We're sorry to hear of your less than satisfactory experience with Shaw Academy and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies.
We like so many businesses are encountering extreme challenges stemming from covid-19. The issues we face relate to staff challenges in all of our office locations including staff unable to attend work and also work from home. This is compounded by a massive increase in student volumes given the sudden shock to the world with new levels of unemployment and significant amounts of people worried about their futures.
Even with a full complement of staff this would have been challenging but in a covid-19 world far more so. This has put considerable strain on our teams in particular, the customer support.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation

Thank you so much for your help. all resolved and im delighted.
They charged me for a month after I cancelled and even sent them proof that I had cancelled a month prior and told me they couldn't give me a refund.
I signed up for a free trail through my cell phone carrie. I cancelled my membership on April 1st, I have an email to prove that I cancelled and on April 28th they charged my card $69.99. I have reached out to them with the email showing I cancelled and they will not refund my money instead they are saying that they will give me so many months free even though when I cancelled it was because I never did ANY course work because I didn't have the time between work and everything else. They told me a refund was not an option and that I knew I would be charged for the month if I didn't cancel in time and I explained to them again that I cancelled on April 1st and even sent them the proof. When I cancelled on April 1st they made me send an email to confirm my cancellation. I have not done not ONE course or class and they were not authorized to charge me considering I cancelled my membership just a few days after signing up for a 4 week trial. The company was responding to me by email and have stopped after I sent them the proof that I cancelled. I have not heard from them since.

I got charged $69.99 after asking to cancel service before the end of trial. I now have no access to the class even though I've paid.
I signed up for a free 4-week trial with Shaw Academy. After a few days I contacted them to cancel, on March 29. On May 26th I was locked out of class and assumed my trial was over. But then I got billed. My class was also reset to the very beginning. I was not interested in starting over after 4 weeks of learning. I contacted Shaw, they told me they could not refund me the $69.99 I had paid. Then they locked me out of class altogether (screen shot attached). Currently I have no access to the class and have not received a refund.
Desired Outcome
I don't want to have anything more to do with this company, no extensions of a free trial, offers for other classes, etc. I just want my money back.

Money taken from my account twice even after cancelling
I won a course from Shaw academy via Vodacom South Africa. During the registration It required my bank card details and it said no money will be debited. I never used the service. Nor did I take any course with them. However to my surprise money was debited on my account after canceling the service that was on the 28th of April 2020 then on the 30th again money was debited from my account even with proof that I had canceled when I sent an email they never responded how come they debit my money after canceling

I requested a subscription cancellation within 24 hours of signing up and they have charged me and refused my refund request
I enrolled in the shaw academy and within 24 hours wanted to cancel my course. I was unable to do it online so I emailed support. They got back to me a few days later saying my subscription was cancelled. A month later a payment was taken out of my paypal. I have contacted Shaw Academy multipul times through their support email and each time they have blatantly ignored my request to have my subscription cancelled AND to be refunded.
I have just phoned the number that they finally give you when you try and go through the process of closing your account online. I didn't actually end up talking to anyone but after them offering me everything but steak knives I (fingers crossed) have finally cancelled my account.
I don't know what else to do if this is just another one of their hoaxes.
This has been the worst experience ever.
Desired Outcome

I am trying to cancel my trial subscription to Shaw Academy for a photography course. The number I am forced to call to cancel is out of service.
I signed up for the free 4-week photography course today (May 3, 2020). After going to the app store to download the Shaw Academy app, I decided to read some of the reviews for it. After reading the reviews, I realized that this was a shady, scam business that would make it near impossible for me to cancel in the future (I was given until May 31, 2020 to cancel until I would be charged). In the interest of avoiding the scam and wasting my money, I set out to cancel my free trial the same day I signed up for it (May 3, 2020). After having to confirm about 5 times that I wanted to cancel, I was given a number to call. This number was "XXXX XXX XXXX". This is not in the format of a U.S. number. I called this number, and as expected, it did not work. Thinking it might be a typo, I also called "X XXX XXX XXXX " and "XXX XXX XXXX". Neither number is in service. Calling that number is the only way to cancel my account and prevent a complete waste of 70 dollars that would fall into the hands of this illegitimate business. The only option they have given me to prevent this from happening is to call that number, which does not seem to be a real U.S. phone number.
Desired Outcome
I selected "Other", because I have not yet been charged anything, therefore I cannot have a refund. I want Shaw Academy to cancel my account/free trial. The only way they've given me is to call a number that does not exist

Thank you, but they have responded to me once I contacted them a few times through email to cancel my account, so my issue has been resolved. However, for others in a similar case as mine, Shaw Academy should still use a valid US number if they claim that is how you have to cancel your account. Obviously that's not entirely true because over email appears to work as well.
Charged $69.99 for their monthly program. I have reached out 3 times with no response to get my $69.99 refunded to me.
I signed up for their free trial month program 4/1/2020. I was not able to find information online about how to cancel my membership before the trial was over. I found a phone number, which I called. The phone number had an automatic recording saying they were closed for Coronavirus and to submit info via email. I was then charged $69.99 through my Paypal account on 4/29/2020, two days before the monthly charge should have gone through.
I submitted info via email 3 times. The first time I was told I could not be refunded. I replied and said I do not accept that and wanted a full refund.
The second and third email attempts have not been replied to. I feel Shaw Academy is acting unfair, unethical, and malicious in their business practices by not clearly stating how to end the free trial and drafting my account the $69.99 from my account with no prior notice. Especially since they drafted from my account 2 days earlier then the regular monthly renewal date from when I signed up.
Desired Outcome
A refund of $69.99 and my account closed.

Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money although I did never purchased their services. I was so turned off by the website design and payment complication during signup that I tried signing up and canceling again during the trial period. After seeing (see attached) an odd number of transactions in/out of my account, I assumed my account or subscription got canceled. So I didn't bother to log in until 30th April and then I saw a payment charge. When I contacted them, they gave text book reply similiar to what I have seen in Revdex.com site about trial period. Their website is a trap and malfunctions to make you assume that you cancelled but it stays on until they start charging money. I have requested for refund and I havent yet recieved the amount. I signed up, cancelled on 30th March, 2020 but they charged me one full month fees on 30th April.
Desired Outcome
I want my full refund that was charged on 29th April as Never EVEN TOOK A single class or spent more than 5 minutes on the website. Company has ability to track which user has logged in and how many times. with ZERO usage even during trial and several cancellation attempts on the day of sign up can illustrate that user wasnt trying to stay on. The response i received from them is hypocrite and again luring customers like me to stay on and use for extended period free of charge. If thats the case then why not they refund the unauthorized charge.

I would like the return of my 69.99 because the customer service representative said my account was cancelled but upgraded my membership instead.
Dear Student,

Shaw academy charged an unauthorized payment to my credit card. I have an email confirming my cancellation and they just charged me. Would not recomme
I was emailed to confirm my cancellation on April 7th, 2020. My issue number was #XXXXXXX. I was charged today .
To be refunded.

Refund in full.
Dear Student,

I would like a refund of my £49.99. I went in to the site and clicked on another button to find out more about a product they were offering and it was instant purchase so another £39.95 came out of my account immediately. I am therefore looking for a refund of £89.90.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Shaw Academy have not answered my issue.
The issue is that I signed up online and I was not sent an email confirmation or any indication of the cancellation date before payment was taken.
They should be refunding me £49.99 which I believe was taken unlawfully.
Dear Student,
The refund had been processed from our side. Please check with your bank to confirm whether there was any settlement issue.
Thank you
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I want my card credited back the $69.99 they took out.

They said they credited my account and that's all I wanted. That and for them to completely lose my information! Close all my stuff permanently!
Shaw Academy promised it was a FREE trial but deducted money after signing it up. Another deduction in my account just today.
Hello.
Please help me.
I signed up because they said it was a FREE trial. But after signing it up, I was got deducted on my card worth Php299. So I emailed them to cancel it and have a refund, but to no avail, I didn't received any response from them at all.
1st transaction - Php299 - March 31, 2020
2nd transaction - Php500 - May 1, 2020
fromt this account VISA-ONLINE EDUCATION SA +XXXXXXXXXXX GB
Now, another payment they charged on me worth Php500 which I did not download any of their course!
Please help me to have my refund.
I wanted to have A REFUND!

I don't want to have anything more to do with this company, no extensions of a free trial, offers for other classes, etc. I just want my money back.
I have meanwhile heard from Shaw Academy and they have resolved my issue. I would like to withdraw my complaint.
I want the money to be refunded back into my account
Dear Student,

I would like the unauthorised payment that was taken from my paypal account refunded. I have emailed their support address multipul times and each time my requests have been ignored. They respond to me offering me more for my subscription, I don't want more I just want a refund.

A refund of $69.99 and my account closed.
Dear Student,
As per your request we have cancelled your subscription.
We have also processed your refund. It will be credited back to your account within 5-7 business days.

Thank you for the full refund I received and for closed my account.
Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money as I didnt purchased or used their services.
