They charged my bank after I already expressed my interest in cancelling my membership.
On April 18,2020 I attempted to cancel my free trial as I no longer would be able to afford the program. Upon going into my account I could not find any place to cancel the subscription. I then emailed the company on April 21,2020 to express that I would like to cancel my subscription. I then immediately got an email back explaining someone would be answering my email and that my query is number #XXXXXXX. they answered my email within the next day and expressed that I did not cancel within the time limit when I had infact attempted to and emailed them letting them know that I wished to no longer be a part of this service. They expressed my card was already charged and when I checked my bank account it was not. They then expressed that they cancelled my membership and had given me another free trial to complete the course. I cannot complete the course and I cannot afford what they continued to charge my account as I am not working right now. Frankly, I think it's devious on their part as an organization to confuse it's users from cancelling a service they may not need, want, or can no longer affored.

Desired Outcome

I would like an apology and a refund. I thought it would be helpful to learn a new skill during this pandemic but instead I've been charged money I cannot afford when I seemed that class unhelpful or no longer useful.

This school steal their students, they took unauthorized charges from my account while I enrolled for a free course and didn't purchase anything
I enrolled for a free course, but when I logged in one day, I had a message saying thanks for purchasing this toolkit (while I didn't purchase anything) and the money was taken from my account. I complained to Shaw Academy about this, and they replied with an offer to give me access to more material for no extra charge, which I refused, because no offer can make up for it, I couldn't afford this purchase so I just wanted a refund. So I complained again two more times, letting them know that I already cancelled my courses because I didn't feel safe on their website anymore, and they kept sending me the exact same message with the offer (even though I cancelled my courses), seems to be automatic, which show how much they care about the students queries. I don't understand how it is so difficult to give a refund, I know you are able to do it, what's the big deal, it's not even a lot of money, you don't need this money, I do. What a shame for an educational institution to lie to your students pretending it's a free course and then steal them.

Shaw Academy processed an unauthorized charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money although I did never purchased their services.

I called them up and instead of offering a refund they offered me further services and I kept requesting for a refund but no luck.

I have been told on multiple occasions that $199 credit has been added to my account for end of module exams. This is not true and I have been charged
On the 8/4/20 I received a response to an email I had sent which stated

I have spoken to my manager and we would like to offer you credit to the value of $199 which can be used for 3 remaining module E-certificates and 1 hard copy diploma. This is far in excess of what you paid and you have had access until now and will continue to do so for life.

I have activated this for you in your account, where you can appear for all the module assignments and obtain your EQF certificates.

Seeing this, I clicked on the module one exam, and was charged £39.99

On 14/4/20 (April 14th) after several more emails to enquire why this had not happened, I received an email which stated the same thing. It still had not been done. Thinking that it must have been done because I had been told it had twice, I clicked on the module two exam, and was charged £39.99

On 15/4/20, after questioning this second unauthorised charge, I was sent an email which stated this:

I've requested to enable E-certificates for nutrition course, it will be enabled within 24-48 hours.

When I went to the take the exam for Module three, despite this, I was charged AGAIN.

On April 20th, I sent an email stating:

As you can see, it is not required to purchase the membership to progress past module one, and I am in fact on module four. I am happy to let my free trial expire and pay for membership on a month by month basis only if, as previously promised by shaw academy, module 4 test and hard copy diploma will be free when it happens. Can you confirm this to be the case, as all the information I have had so far appears to be wrong.

And received an email back stating

Thank you for contacting us back.

If we have promised you, then I will ensure it is done for you.

I should not have been charged the two charges of £39.95 for modules two and three as I have email proof that they had been offered for free, and am seeking refunds on those immediately, and unless module four is unlocked, and the hard copy diploma is provided, as promised, I will be seeking a refund for the £49.95 Monthly charge too.

I had to pay extra for the hard copy diploma despite having been told that it would be free, I am seeking a refund for the end of module exams for module one and two, as as previously stated, I was told those had been added to my account and yet was charged when I clicked to take the exam. So no, I do not accept this response.

I requested twice (unique ID numbers #XXXXXXX and #XXXXXXX) to cancel my membership and then was charged. Company refuses to refund me.
I requested twice (unique ID numbers #XXXXXXX and #XXXXXXX) to cancel my membership before the end of the trial date on March 27 and 28. I was only a week into my one month trial membership before requesting to cancel through ***@shawacademy.com and ***@shaw.academy.com, as stated on their website. I also tried online, but after selecting through 5 web pages of continuing to decline new offers, I was told I needed to call. I was then charged in April, but the company refuses to refund me. I called today as they still would not cancel the membership through email or online as stated on their website. When calling you must select 5 different times to decline new offers, as you select 5 different time to cancel by pressing one, before it will accept your response of cancelation. Very shady business practice.

I was charged for a service I did not sign up for. It was a free course but you had to sign up to the school with a credit card.
I was charged a series of $1 and refunded $1 on March 27th, then today April 24th I was charged $69.99. I didn't sign up for any charged courses. There was a free course I was interested in but to sign up you needed a credit card. there is also no website where I can even sign in?????

I signed up for a FREE trial for Shaw Academy course. They just took $69.99 from my PayPal. I did NOT authorize this; I ask for an immediate refund.
On March 28, I signed up for a free online social media course held by Shaw Academy. They said it was totally free, but they asked that we put in our PayPal information. I should have stopped right then and there. Next, they did a really odd thing where they took $1 from my account, then refunded it, then took another, refunded it, and then took another. I found the activity strange, but I figured okay, it's just a dollar.

I started the first course, which I thought was rubbish, then ignored the rest of the emails. So I actually DID NOT even take these courses. And suddenly today, I get a charge of $69.99 CAD. I 100% did not authorize this. I am furious and appalled at how a company could be this sneaky and unprofessional. I would like my subscription cancelled, even though I was sure it already was, and I would like an immediate refund.

I have alaready been in contact with their support team about my issue, and all they've done is offer me 6 months free of courses, which I absolutely DO NOT want access to, as I do not wish to have any relation at all with their untrustworthy company. My ID # Is #XXXXXXX, and I would like this to be resolved now, with a full refund and I would like confirmation that I am not only completely unsubscribed from any of their plans and courses and communication, but that my account is 100% CLOSED.

Went through the app and phone system to cancel. Now again in April I have been charged. Emailed them..same cookie cutter cit and paste anser they gave me last time. I want a refund. I am due a refund, money taken out of my account illegally !

I signed up on the 27th March 2020, processed my initial cancel request on 28th March 2020 as it wasn't for me (this was within the first month, of which they promise that If you cancel within the first month there will be no charge)

I received an email to confirm my cancellation on the 30th March 2020, however I still got charged £49.99 on 22nd April 2020. see below:

I was charged more than what I was supposed to pay for an "extra" in a free course. I was then charged again AFTER I CANCELED THE PROGRAM.
I signed up for a free course. As normal, after the free trial, you get charged the subscription. I WAS TOTALLY AWARE OF THIS. The problem was I got charged extra on week 1 for an extra service I opted into because I was told I needed it for the class. I tried to contact them about it. All I received were auto responses saying they couldn't verify my email, blah blah blah. Keep in mind from the day I signed up, they emailed me 2-3times a day trying to sell me something. Whatever. I took care that with my bank and moved on. I attended the "classes", if you can call them that. I had a legitimate question and never received the answer, THEN they tried to tell me I didn't attend the class. Excuse me! After 2 weeks I was fed up and decided to go ahead and cancel. I called the number I was given after I tried to cancel online and was informed I couldn't. I call the number. Apparently each number given is assigned to each person, bc the automated person on the other end kept saying my name. I listen to all the upsells and attempts to get me to continue the program. After 10 min listening to their automated bs, I was finally able to cancel. Or so I thought. Today they charge my account and I'm livid. SHAW ACADEMY IS A SCAM. If I wanted to watch a recorded video of how to do things, I'd use YOUTUBE!! At least it's free and they actually have a customer service that can help me with anything. DO NOT USE SHAW ACADEMY! I WANT MY MONEY BACK. PERIOD. I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME ON MY HANDS SO I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY FILLING MY DAY WITH NEGATIVE REVIEWS FOR THIS COMPANY, BECAUSE APARENTLY THATS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM TO SPEAK WITH YOU!

I signed up for their free trial, sent them an email to cancel my subscription which was successful but was charged anyway.
On March 26th I signed up for a free trial of ShawAcademy, however after attempting to cancel my membership after the free trial was over I was prompted to call a number which I could not do. I sent in a support ticket on March 29th and was replied to on the same day saying "Your membership with Shaw Academy has now been cancelled. It will be updated within the next 48 hours.".

Now on April 26th, 50 was taken out of my bank despite being told by a staff member and I can see that my account is signed up to a 3 week membership... despite being told that my subscription was cancelled a month ago.

I've now emailed them again asking for a refund... as this is a mistake. I hope to receive a response and a 50 refund in my bank. If I don't then luckily they are based in my country and they're not too far from my office.

registered for free 4 week trial, I want it cancelled the same day immediately, I do not authorize payments done without my consent. no emails replied
I registered for a 4 week free trial today (April 25, 2020), and I want to cancel it immediately. I no longer want be a part of shaw academy and no longer intent to take any courses our lessons provided by this institution. note that I am cancelling it even before taking any lessons, and 4 weeks before the end the of the the trial. I have read hundreds of complaints regarding this online institution making unauthorized payments even after their customers cancelling their membership during the free trial.
I do not want a six month free access or whatever marketing strategy they try to advertise, I do not want any unauthorized payments from my account after this fraud free trial.
membership cancellation should be immediate and online that should take a couple seconds and not having to email or call a number so you can buy more time off of your customers just so you can steal more money from them. they claim their policy id exactly the same as other online services like netflix and linkedin but they are not. their policies are never clear and they take action without their customer's knowledge and consent.

l want to file a complaint regarding unprofessional service, fraud and scam! and I wish I never signed up with them.

i want my membership cancelled, i do not want them to have my bank account information any longer. the business model of their business is to waste as much time as they can from their customers in order to steal money from them. they make unauthorised and unfair payments by taking advantage of the info they have of their customers. membership cancellation should be immediate and should not require phone calls that never gets answered and emails that take them ages just to reply back, by the time they do the 'free trial' that they call is already over and they will take money from you. how come other professional online services like linkedin never does that? i have signed up for their free trial once, cancelled it before the deadline through one click immediately with no forced useless phone calls and other scam tactics.

Banking information deletion and account deletion
I cancelled my membership with Shaw Academy way before the end of my 1-month free trial period. However, I recently saw reviews that it is a total scam and I want to be ensured that I will not be charged. Hence, I'm requesting Shaw Academy to delete my banking information, since their website does not allow users to do this, which is very fishy and sneaky. I would like Shaw Academy to email me once this is done. I will then file another complaint here at Revdex.com if Shaw Academy fails to do this.

Signed up for a trial service and I canceled the service prior to the trail ending and I was still charged. Company refused to provide a refund.
On March 23 I signed up for a four week free trail for the Shaw Academy online course program. I signed up because it would give me a sense of whether or not I would have the time to enroll in a more permanent situation.

When I realize I was missing most of the courses during the trail period I tried to cancel my account by logging into my online account. I was required to call to cancel and was subjected to a recording that asked me four times through various prompts whether or not I wanted to cancel even though each time I requested cancellation. I have attached the absolutely unprofessional and manipulative voice recording.

Eventually, I was able to cancel my account. However, I reached out via email to make sure that they would not charge my account because I still had two days left of my free trail. They immediately charged my account on the same day I requested that they not charge my account. The customer service specialist Patrick refused to refund me after 11 email exchanges.

I've tried to cancel my subscription to Shaw Academy for a week and get a refund. They've only sent an auto-response and won't communicate.
I started a free trial with Shaw Academy for a month long class. I went through the trial and wanted to cancel my subscription, but I was late by one day. That same day I tried to email the company to cancel and get a refund, to which they sent me an automated email. It stated that they would get back with me in about 48 hours on April 21, 2020. It is already the 26th and I have yet to hear anything back; I even sent a follow-up email on April 24th. I tried to be prompt with my response but I'm concerned with how long this process is taking.

The initial email that Shaw Academy sent, gave me an ID number (#XXXXXXX), but even when I used this ID in my response to them I still didn't get any response back.

I want to cancel my subscription and get a refund for the cost of the month that I don't need.

I signed up for a 4 week free trial and ended up getting charged $69.99
On April 22nd 2020 I signed up for a 4 week free trial. Meaning that we have 4 weeks to try the courses and if we do not cancel our membership within the 4 weeks then we get charged $69.99. However, I was charged as soon as I created my account within seconds, they charged me $69.99. When I first signed up, their advertisement stated; "4 weeks free trail, regular $69.99, but now $0.00". I emailed them that same day, however, I keep getting automated responses with no real answers to my questions. Apparently, it was stated in the terms and conditions about the additional charges to the free trail (firstly, if it states free trail, why are there "additional charges") However, since there was no away for me to see the terms and conditions once I signed up, I asked my friend to sign up. There I learned (and took screen shots) there is NO place which states that I will be charged upfront. This is what is stated "We will bill any Payment Method provided by You for your monthly membership fee at the end of the free trial period unless you cancel your membership prior to the end of the free trial period." They were suppose to charge me at the END of the 4 weeks not at the beginning. I didn't even have time to cancel my account.

They said they will give me a free toolkit and -certificate plus access to all courses (first 6 months now 12) however, when I tried to get my tool kit they tried to charge me again-before I closed the browser. Then they keep harassing me with emails and messages to pay and continue my learning. This company is all about charging. Wherever I click, they is a new unknown charge.

False advertising and fraudulent activity is at play here. Many people have this problem from previous reviews I have read-which shows that there is a major issue here within their institution.

the free trial of The Shaw Academy is a scam
Hello,
I was on the free trial but I wasn't able to attend any class during that month, therefore I cancelled the free trial: Shaw Academy had sent me a confirmation about my cancellation for the free trial. But at the same time they also offered me some other service which I've never required: they added me automatically to their "module one for LIFE" which I don't understand at all how does it work nor ever asked for it. Surely I've wrote a few emails to cancel this complicated situation but still receive no reply after weeks.
The Shaw Academy, after a few weeks, after the free trial , had charged a monthly fee base on automatic transaction: I spent EUR 24.99 without wanting and getting any service and still awaiting their explanation of forcing me into their program.
I am now asking for a refund and want them to stop using my personal info for their business.

Supposed to send a reminder that the free trial was ending, didn't, but were quick to charge me. Such a disappointing experience!
I had a 4 week free trial with Shaw Academy, throughout the trial I received endless notifications trying to get me to buy stuff. I tried to cancel my free trial beforehand but was told (on the app) that this would cancel my access from then, and not to worry as I would get a notification reminding me the day before the end of the free trial. That never happened, and the next thing I have a pending charge for £49.99 on my card! I cancelled my account straight away (which was difficult, going through an online process just to be told I would have to then make a phone call, where an automated voice subjected me to 4 minutes of guilt tripping). I emailed Shaw Academy straight away, this was merely a few hours into the day of the charge on my card (which was still pending at this point) only to be told when they replied that it was not possible to refund me, despite me explaining the above. They would however cancel my account straight away, meaning no access AND they've just taken £49.99 off me! I was offered a load of "free" stuff to keep the account active, which wouldnt be free otherwise they would be refunding me. When I tried to give the customer service negative feedback, the link then told me the ticket was closed so I couldn't give it, surprise surprise. Really disappointing service, and reputable company would see that a mistake had been made and refund the customer. However it seems this is common practice and getting money out of people for nothing is more important than getting loyalty and repeat custom.

Because I have emailed the address as requested, and been sent exactly (to the word) the same automatic response as when I emailed them myself previously, clearly a copy and paste reply. This is doing nothing to address my complaint and the issues that I raised previously, their failure to remind customers of the end of the free trial as promised by them. The response is as follows. Now in terms of your account, I have personally reviewed your account and found that you had subscribed using your debit/credit card/payment method and availed of a 4-week free trial after which payment would be made. Our free trial model allows us to bring down the cost of education globally and reach large numbers of students all over the world who want, need and deserve to learn new skills. This free trial model is similar to what the likes of Netflix, Spotify and all other subscription providers offer.

In terms of processing a refund, unfortunately, this is not something we can do as the free trial was made available to you as per the terms and conditions you agreed to upon registration and the revenue has been recognized as per our revenue recognition policies.

All of that being said it is my role to ensure you as a customer, are satisfied with the services received and that you continue to benefit from our exceptional courses. You came to us with certain goals in mind and I want to help you achieve them as they were and are important to you and they are important to me to so let's get into solution mode and focus on what we can and will do.

I have received the refund as promised.

I completed the free trial of Shaw Academy and then I paid to continue my courses but I can't access my courses and no one has reached out to me.
I signed up for the free course in Marketing in March then I paid for the 6month premium subscription. They took the $179.95 (they were running a discount at the time for me to continue learning) but now I can't access my courses and no one from customer service is explaining to me why. I have asked for a call and email, but have received nothing. I would just like to speak to someone.

Desired Outcome

I need an explanation with a PHONE CALL from a human to explain what I paid the $179.95 for, what my 6month premium subscription gets me or my money back.

We like so many businesses are encountering extreme challenges stemming from covid-19. The issues we face relate to staff challenges in all of our office locations including staff unable to attend work and also work from home. This is compounded by a massive increase in student volumes given the sudden shock to the world with new levels of unemployment and significant amounts of people worried about their futures. Last week ten times more students joined that would have been expected. Even with a full complement of staff this would have been challenging but in a covid-19 world far more so.
