Website button makes it look like navigating to a new page, but instead confirmed a purchase; very difficult to cancel
On April 15th I enrolled in Shaw Academy's "free" Social Media Marketing course. Upon first enrolling I was taken to a course website where it was evident I was have to purchase a "toolkit" in order to access most course materials. In following a link to what I thought would have provided more information about the "toolkit," I was immediately charged for purchasing the "toolkit." I contacted customer service via the website and received an email response the next day. The response provided information about how to use the course material and the benefits of having purchased the materials for the "free" course. Additionally, I was offered a $199 credit that would cover the cost of the 3 additional toolkits required for the "free" module I had enrolled in. I was told I would not receive a refund because I had already purchased the material. (It should be noted that I have not opened or otherwise accessed the material at the time of filing this complaint.) I responded, expressing dissatisfaction, and was then offered access to "All courses Toolkit plus 2 hard copy diplomas for free worth $599." The email indicated that I would have access to this offer in my account.

Due to my unsatisfactory interactions with Shaw Academy and after reading other complains posted on the Revdex.com site, I elected to terminate my account. I was taken through many, many webpages to confirm, at least 5 times, that I wanted to deactivate my account. On the last page I was instructed to call +X (XXX) XXX-XXXX and use a provided student code to verify deactivation. Again, I had to navigate through many, many options on the automated phone call to confirm deactivation. The student code was never required.

The call ended with a statement that I would receive email confirmation terminating my account. I have been flooded with emails from Shaw Academy nearly immediately after first providing my email address. I have no received the confirmation email cancelling my account. I have continued to receive promotional emails from Shaw, despite unsubscribing numerous times.

Desired Outcome

I would like Shaw Academy to discontinue their false advertising practices and to provide website users with honest user interactions (it should not be incredibly easy to accidentally make a purchase for a "free" course while simultaneously be incredibly difficult to deactivate an account).

Shaw Academy wasn't going to offer reimbursement until I told them I had appealed with my bank. Their answer up to that point had been a hard "no" leaving me no choice but to appeal. I find it hard to believe that they were ever going to work with me.
Further, and perhaps more importantly, their response to this investigation does nothing to address their dishonest advertising and "customer service" experiences.
I may be out $40 as a small business owner severely impacted by the global pandemic. I can live with that. Shaw Academy shouldn't be allowed to continue scamming other, possibly more vulnerable individuals.

Free trial first class I press the screem without notice in the background I was buying a toolkit .I cancel the trial look for refund they refuse.
T mobile offer me a 3 monts free trial march 31/2020 .I have to give my credit card to open the class.while I was taking my first class I didnt notice that they have like a background page behing the one I was looking. I try to exit the class and at message appear thankyou for buying the toolkit. I call them nobody answer , send several email and just now I get an answer they can refund my money but offer me diplomas and more kit for this payment . I talk them that I cancel the subscripcion so I dont need notting from them but they refuse to refun$34.95 .I star a charge complain in my creditcard and maybe I have to cancel it.Please type your reply above this line -##

I have reviewed your email and this matter further however unfortunately there is no way at all a refund can be processed for you. Unfortunately, the issue remains that the terms and conditions were made readily available, you have clicked on the "Buy Now/One-click Purchase" button to make the payment and the making available of our terms and conditions furthermore we made available the content for which the payment was made. We cannot offer a refund in these circumstances.

I want to help you. During our last exchange I had offered you with 3 module toolkits and 1 hard copy diploma worth $199 an awful lot of money free of charge as I just want to help.

I have tried to come up with something further and the very best I can possibly do is to increase that to All courses Toolkit plus 2 Hard Copy Diplomas worth $599.

This is very much an exception as I have listened to everything you said, and I am doing everything to improve your satisfaction and help you to achieve your goals.

Signed up for free trial, I followed the cancellation instructions online then telephone, I was told it was done. They charged me and refuse to refund
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy, entered payment details in case I wanted to continue paying a monthly fee for education after the free trial. I didn't like the classes or the setup so I cancelled my subscription on March 26th, following the online guide and then calling the number provided, the cancellation system was automated so I couldn't speak to a person but the recorded message said my subscription was cancelled.

On April 9th my credit card was charged, I immediately noticed because it put me over my credit limit. The same day I reached out to Shaw by responding to an email, I recieved no reply. I then contacted customer service on April 12 to explain the situation.

They have refused to refund the charges, stating that I was out with the terms and conditions. However I have asked them to show me where it says that it says they can take money from me after I cancel within the time frame but so far they haven't managed that.

I have provided evidence of my attempts to cancel in the form of screen shots of my call log to the provided number and my response to their email but they have disregarded this information.

They have offered me a year of learning by way of compensation but that is useless to me because their classroom was virtually unusable and their unauthorized $70 charge will most likely cost me extra with bank charges.

That's my side of things and as balanced as I can be.

Desired Outcome

I want my money refunded because I had cancelled my subscription and should not have been charged at the end of my free trial. It is unfair to take money from someone after telling them you won't.

The company pull you in with their free trial service, even when you cancel the same day or before trial ends they charge you and won't give a refund!
I signed up and regret it...
I signed up to Shaw academy to trial their photography course with their 1 month free trial which I would then be charged monthly. During sign up, there were so many errors that I was not sure whether my details to be charged through PayPal had gone through or whether it would be direct debit through my bank. Immediately, I emailed in to their customer support to cancel my free trial and any bank cards or PayPal accounts linked to them, which a representative emailed back letting me know that no bank cards were connected to my account and that I would not be charged the following month, however could continue to use the free trial until it was over. I decided to not even use the service anymore and went about me day.
A month later I have been charged and have emailed back and forth explaining that I had cancelled my membership through their customer support as there were no indications on the account page of where to do so. I am now at day 6 of my dispute with them trying to get back my $49.99 while be met with stupid automated emails and their representative initially offering me 6 months free membership as a consolation which has now been bumped up to 12 months totalling in $999.99 free membership instead of just refunding me my money!

Desired Outcome

There is no where on the company's website to cancel or delete your membership/account, but you only have the word of the company representative who tells you that your account is deleted, however I can still sign in. I want FULL confirmation that my account is deleted and all debit card details and personal information has been erase. I also demand a FULL refund of $49.99 and no further payments to be taken.

The company finally contacted me back and their response is true.

Shaw continued to charge me every month despite cancelation.
I signed up for a four week trial for the marketing class. I barely accessed the platform and canceled before the trial period ended. I received a confirmation of cancelation on November 5th. I have been charged $59.99-$69.99 CAD every month since, which the charge was only noticed on April 15, 2020. I emailed Shaw Academy and they alleged that I reactivated the subscription by using the "free toolkit" and e-certificate, which I never accessed. I have never received notification that the subscription was activated and they were unable to provide a date of this "reactivation". They refuse to refund despite my explicit cancelation and have not been responding to my emails.

Desired Outcome

A full refund of all charges from the time I canceled to present.

I have confirmed with my bank that the refund has been processed for the period after I canceled my subscription.

I was billed after a call and I did not sign off on that. I did not say in the call that I was going to sign up, I said I was thinking about it.
I received a call today (April 17, 2020) from shawacademy about my course. I was informed about my free trial ending in monday and I expressed my interest to continue it but I did not say yes yet when I checked my Account status, it was saying I was billed for a 12 month membership.

I want a full refund. My free trial haven't even ended yet and they're already charging me. They didn't even email me a confirmation email.

I want a full refund and I want it as soon as possible. During this crisis, we need that money.

Signed up for free trial. Company won't cancel it. I'm afraid that they will charge me for a subscription I don't want. I want to cancel my account.
Hello. I signed up for a free trial of Shaw Academy on Thursday evening (16th of April). After looking around for a couple hours, I have decoded that I want to cancel my account. I emailed them but they have not done anything. I have read stories online about them refusing to cancel subscriptions and charging people. I am afraid that they will charge me for a subscription I don't want. My payment method used is Paypal.

I want them to completely cancel my subscription and remove my payment method from their database. I don't want to be charged by them. Please help me. Thank you.

Shaw Academy charge me $59.99 from my card without authorization. I want my refund back but they don't want to refund my money back.
I register for a free try out class with Shaw Academy. This class was for 4 weeks and during the registration process they ask for a card information for you to register with no charge if you cancel during the process time. I only saw one video from this class and I am sure that I cancel my registration during the appropriate time to cancel. A few days after I cancel I was checking my card and a charge for the amount of $59:99 was apply from Shaw Academy. I been emailing the company but they don't want to apply my refund. They said that I did not cancel on time which is a lie on their behalf. They still send my emails to take my classes. I don't know why, because I already cancel this account. I want for them to refund my money back to my account because I did my cancelation on time they are LYING and ripping people out. I has contact them and the ticket ID # XXXXXXX. They block my personal account and is still showing that I am register in a course. The still send me text messages to take the class or watch the video. I am attaching copy of some emails. I Am not able to put all conversations with them because when I go to my account it is block. They still have me register and still send me messages to view my course. I already Cancel... I don't want for them to keep charging me for classes that I am not register for. Now as of two days ago abril 14 I am still receiving emails for an intermediate class when I already cancel my class few weeks ago. Signed up for 4 week Free Trial but charged me on the last day.
I signed up for the 4 week Free Trial last March 19, attended the 1st class on March 20. I was under the impression that my last day was April 16, but when I checked my account on April 16, I was already charged $59.99 on debit card ending VISA ***.
I immediately canceled my account and sent a request for a refund, provided too with the screenshot of my bank and receipt. But I was told that they couldnt give me a refund because I used up my 4week trial. I only have $35 left on my account, and this will give me big blow if they dont refund the money back.

The day I signed up for my 4 week "free trial" I was charges $69.99. Ive emailed 4 times and called once and only recieve auto mated responses.
This company feels like total FRAUD.

The day I signed up for my 4 week "free trial" I was charges $69.99. When I emailed then my concern, I was told to call. I called and recieved an auto mated message saying "not to quit and give up on my dreams" being offered a new insentive to stay. This cycled THEEE TIMES, each time a greater insentive to stay. Finally when I reached the end of the auto mated voice message I was told to EMAIL shaw academy.

I have emailed shaw academy 4 different times asking for a refund and have recieved 4 auto mated email messages saying "my account has been reviewed and that I knew I would be charged when my trial ended". My 4 week course ends April 22 and today is April 16th AND MY CREDIT CARD was charged on DAY 1.

On top of this the site itself functions quite slow, taking lots of time to think between pages, and isnt really that user friendly.

All in all, shaw academy feels super sketchy and I would trust this company or invest your money, time, OR DREAMS (as they say) into them.

Shaw Academy deceptively processed an unauthorized charge on my credit card and refused to refund the money, despite showing evidence.

Hi there,

So I have been in contact with them regarding how their website has deceptively took an unauthorised payment for a toolkit, when I was trying to view my course. Their landing page seemed to have failed to load fully after watching my first lesson, whilst I was trying to access my course to view the date of my next lesson. I managed to get a screenshot of how the website loaded and as you can see, the button which originally would take you to buy a toolkit, was replaced with a "Get your toolkit (buy it now)" link, with the "course page" link located very closely underneath. Trying to access my course page, it instead, immediately started to take a payment, when I did not even click the link to buy the toolkit! I was not able to click anywhere else apart from in the area of those two links and trying to click the "course page", it just decided to take a payment, instead of directing me to the actual course page!

So the webpage has deceptively took an unauthorised payment as I have not clicked the link to buy the product. This was a fault with their landing page following finishing my first lesson. I immediately contacted my bank to try and cancel the payment, however they said I would need to contact the company but I should be entitled to a 14 day cool down. I emailed ***@shawacademy.com as I thought I might reach someone more directly connected to my issue. However, all I kept getting was generic automated responses. 'Gomes' did not even bother reading my issue and the screenshots I attached as evidence. I have not downloaded the toolkit, I don't want the toolkit, I told them they can disable it and return my money as I did not authorise this, and yet, they're refusing to even provide a solution. Instead, just generic replies relating to a generic topic from my responses!

This feels like it has been a scam - hiding the buy it now link within the view course link. You can see how the two links are placed close together and misaligned through out the page so it was a fault on their end. Especially how the normal landing page just has one button: "Get your toolkit" - not a buy it now link and view your course page link directly underneath it.

I don't understand how a business like that is still around with such a bad customer service. I was aware of people having some transaction issues, and took caution of this but didn't expect something as deceitful as my experience. Especially trying to get the problem solved with customer service. You would have more luck getting blood from a stone.

Desired Outcome

1. Refund: I want my money back of £39.95. 2. A response from a human. 3. Compensation for the amount of time wasted through emailing, screenshots, repeating my explanations and ME trying to find a solution. I was genuinely looking forward to these classes and I actually started to consider maybe completing my courses once my trial finished. However, with the amount of hassle I have had this week and the repeated issues with their customer service, I don't want to risk anymore finance issues. It's not worth it at all.

I canceled by subscription before the end of my free trial, but I was still charged a fee of $59.99.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy through T-Mobile Tuesdays which was a free 4-week course in Web Design. I began my trial on March 10th, 2020 and the last day of my trial was on April 7th, 2020. I was under the impression that after my free trial period I would be charged. I signed up to receive a reminder about my free trial ending, which I never received, but I remembered on my own and canceled my membership on time. I immediately received an email from Shaw Academy stating that my membership was canceled. However, I saw on my bank account that I was still charged $59.99. I tried calling Shaw Academy, but no one answered. I emailed them multiple times about receiving a refund, and most importantly removing my card information and deactivating my account. The first few times I emailed them I received automated messages. The last time I emailed them I finally received a response from a representative by the first name of Vaughan. I have not heard back from him. I still have an existing account, and my credit card information has not been deleted, even after the many times I have stated to them that I am not interested in using Shaw Academy any longer. They have terrible customer service, and they do not respect the wishes of their customers.

I want to be fully refunded along with my credit card information removed, and my account deactivated immediately.

I accept Shaw Academy's response in reference to my complaint and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I have contacted support twice to receive refunds for items charged to my account unwillingly. I now have $70 worth of charges.
The first charge (for $39.99) was made on 4/15/20 for a Toolkit that I did not need of want. Now today, I have been charged with a purchase of an eCertificate that I haven't even earned. I would like a refund for the charges as I have been trying to use this site to sharpen my skills since I have been laid off, not to receive additional payments for things I cannot afford.

Desired Outcome

I expect a full refund for the amount of the two products, both valued at $39.99. A total refund of $79.98.

Signed up for free trial, cancelled in time to not be charged, received confirmation of cancellation from shaw, they still charged my account.
I signed up for a free trial with Shaw Academy. I had to put a debit card on file but was told if I cancel by a certain date, I would not be charged. I cancelled 10 days prior to the date given. I received an email from Shaw letting me know my membership had been cancelled. My bank account was still charged a week later. I contacted shaw, they claimed I had not cancelled my membership. I sent in the confirmation email from them but they still claimed they had no proof.

Shaw responded to me this morning ans said they will refund my money. This was done after I made several attempts to resolve the issue with them, and also forwarded the proof they had sent me my membership was cancelled to which they responded they did not have, finally resolved.

They refuse to cancel my account and are taking money from my card.
On Sunday 8th March, 2020 I signed up with Shaw Academy based on a recommendation from Fido Xtra (a program accessible to account holders of Fido, a telecommunications subsidiary of Rogers Network. I did one class and did not have an issue so I paid for the certificate and purchased a toolkit which was advertised on their site for the course. On Tuesday 10th March I was informed by my mother-in-law that she was unwell and needed treatment.

This was the reason for my discontinuing the course but it is also irrelevant since I do reserve the right to decide how, if and when my money is spent. I contacted Shaw Academy the following day to explain that I would like to cancel the membership and also asked about a refund since I had done only 1 class. I accept that I cannot be refunded the cost of the certificate and toolkit, however, I do not understand why Shaw insists on keeping my membership active even after explicit requests to close it and delete all my personal information including but not limited to my financial details.

I have attached the subsequent email chain that demonstrates not just a lack of compassion *** disrespect as they seem to be suggesting that my discontinuation of the membership was a result of my inability to commit to completing the course.

Desired Outcome

I would like to have my membership cancelled and a written statement from them that they have removed my payment information and agree to not charge my card for any reason which at all. If there was any money spent outside of the purchase of the certificate and toolkit I made, I would also like a refund on that. An added resolution that would benefit everyone would be for Shaw Academy to include the ability for any member to deactivate and/or suspend their account and edit/remove payment information at any time during their engagement of service directly from the online portal. I cannot see how a web-based education platform does not have this feature built into the system. Further to that point, they present themselves as having an interest in accessible education, however, they seem to ignore the fact that one of the roadblocks to accessibility is financial stability of individuals.

Absolute scam - don't waste your time! I signed up for the free trial, and was unbothered by adding my credit card information, as I have done the same for other free trials (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and have never had issue with cancelling.

I tried calling on three separate occasions to cancel within the first few days of my trial - the classes were not for me, and I didn't want to continue. I was never able to get through, so I emailed customer service, who told me that it was not in their department, but they've forwarded my information and assured me my account was cancelled.

$60 later and my account was NOT cancelled. I called again and went through an entirely automated process, several prompts of "are you SURE you want to give up on your hopes and goals?" And was told by the robot that I had cancelled and a confirmation email would be sent to me. My account says "non-renewing" under my membership, but I haven't received the confirmation email.

I'm genuinely considering asking my bank for a new debit card so this company no longer has my information.

Shaw academy charged 69.99 CAD even after cancelling my account one week prior. My account cancelled on 10 April and again charged on 16th April.
Shaw Academy offered free courses and took PayPal payment details for future payments. Later I thought of closing free account with them and emailed them regarding cancellation. They confirmed me through email that they are closing my account within 48 hours. later after one week I got deducted 69.99 Cad through my PayPal. That is an unauthorized Charges from Shaw academy. I need my full refund and confirming that my account is closed and wont be charged further.

Desired Outcome

Need full refund and cancel my account permanently.

I cancelled my Shaw Academy subscription within the free trial period. On the date that it was supposed to end, I was billed instead.
On March 16, 2020, I signed up for the 4-week free trial. The week after, I cancelled my subscription because the service was not a good fit for my needs and lifestyle.

On the date it was supposed to end, as marked in their system (April 16, 2020), I was instead billed. I have sent a ticket (ID number #XXXXXXX) to their system including multiple proofs of cancellation.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund of the transaction.

3/16/2020 I enrolled in a free course of 8 lessons. I was to decide to continue or not. Finished 5 lessons -4/16/2020.They took funds from my account
On March 16th 2020, I enrolled in Shaw Academy for a certificate in Leadership and Management. I enrolled in a 4 week , 8 lesson trial course of which I have completed 5 lessons. Today April 16th, less than a month, I received an email receipt showing that they had taken $59.99 from my account. I was to decide at the end of my 8 lessons if I would continue or not in this course. I did not authorize this payment.The receipt says that I sent a payment and I absolutely did not.
I had previously emailed the instructor as he says we could do to talk to him about the course. I have never been able to speak with anyone as I had frequently requested. This made me very uneasy and I did not want to continue with an establishment with whom I couldn't speak to anyone.

I want my $59.99 refunded

Shaw Academy is refusing a refund after I followed the agreement made per section 4 and 5 of the free-trial agreement.
I had cancelled my account BEFORE the free trial had ended, as per the contract said. I went through all of the steps online, as well as called the number given, where I went through SEVERAL steps of confirming that I wanted to cancel
My account. At the end of the phone call, I was told my account was canceled, therefore I would not be charged. This was done prior to the end of the free trial, as agreed per section 4 and 5 of the free trial agreement.
After several attempts at communication with something beyond a computerized response, I was told (via computer message) that my free trial was canceled and that I would not be charged to the card on file. I was charged, and initiated contact via online contact on the website to request a refund, and initiate a complaint, and was told several times that my money could not be refunded as I did not cancel my contract within the time frame needed. My account was canceled on Monday, April 13th. The free trial was scheduled to end on Tuesday, April 14th.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money refunded from the company, and would like them to be educated on their own cancellation policies.
