3/16/2020 I enrolled in a free course of 8 lessons. I was to decide to continue or not. Finished 5 lessons -4/16/2020.They took funds from my account
On March 16th 2020, I enrolled in Shaw Academy for a certificate in Leadership and Management. I enrolled in a 4 week , 8 lesson trial course of which I have completed 5 lessons. Today April 16th, less than a month, I received an email receipt showing that they had taken $59.99 from my account. I was to decide at the end of my 8 lessons if I would continue or not in this course. I did not authorize this payment. The receipt says that I sent a payment and I absolutely did not.
I had previously emailed the instructor as he says we could do to talk to him about the course. I have never been able to speak with anyone as I had frequently requested. This made me very uneasy and I did not want to continue with an establishment with whom I couldn't speak to anyone.

Desired Outcome

I want my $59.99 refunded

I cancelled my Shaw Academy subscription within the free trial period. On the date that it was supposed to end, I was billed instead.
On March 16, 2020, I signed up for the 4-week free trial. The week after, I cancelled my subscription because the service was not a good fit for my needs and lifestyle.

On the date it was supposed to end, as marked in their system (April 16, 2020), I was instead billed. I have sent a ticket (ID number #XXXXXXX) to their system including multiple proofs of cancellation.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund of the transaction.

Shaw Academy Response • Apr 25, 2020

Dear student,

We could see that your subscription was canceled on 16 April 2020, well within the trial period. Hence, you were not charged.

We could also see that we have not taken any payments from you.

Kindly check with your bank.

If you need further assistance ever, please contact us back.

Shaw Academy is refusing a refund after I followed the agreement made per section 4 and 5 of the free-trial agreement.
I had cancelled my account BEFORE the free trial had ended, as per the contract said. I went through all of the steps online, as well as called the number given, where I went through SEVERAL steps of confirming that I wanted to cancel
My account. At the end of the phone call, I was told my account was canceled, therefore I would not be charged. This was done prior to the end of the free trial, as agreed per section 4 and 5 of the free trial agreement.
After several attempts at communication with something beyond a computerized response, I was told (via computer message) that my free trial was canceled and that I would not be charged to the card on file. I was charged, and initiated contact via online contact on the website to request a refund, and initiate a complaint, and was told several times that my money could not be refunded as I did not cancel my contract within the time frame needed. My account was canceled on Monday, April 13th. The free trial was scheduled to end on Tuesday, April 14th.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money refunded from the company, and would like them to be educated on their own cancellation policies.

Absolute scam - don't waste your time! I signed up for the free trial, and was unbothered by adding my credit card information, as I have done the same for other free trials (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and have never had issue with cancelling.

I tried calling on three separate occasions to cancel within the first few days of my trial - the classes were not for me, and I didn't want to continue. I was never able to get through, so I emailed customer service, who told me that it was not in their department, but they've forwarded my information and assured me my account was cancelled.

$60 later and my account was NOT cancelled. I called again and went through an entirely automated process, several prompts of "are you SURE you want to give up on your hopes and goals?" And was told by the robot that I had cancelled and a confirmation email would be sent to me. My account says "non-renewing" under my membership, but I haven't received the confirmation email.

I'm genuinely considering asking my bank for a new debit card so this company no longer has my information.

Shaw Academy was misleading with the countdown timer of days of free trial left and charged several charges that I did not authorize.
I signed up to the Shaw Academy trial on March 15th on a 30 day free trial (please see screenshot of how 30 days is advertised). I also kept careful track on the displayed days left on my free trial. On April 13th the tracker said I had 1 day left but I was charged prior to end of day on April 13th at around 9PM. All along, the site said it would notify me before the end of my trial (this was not the case).

I tried to cancel immediately when I found I had been charged and the website misleadingly displayed that the number I had to call to cancel would only be open between 9-5PM which was not true as it is an automated message line.

Looking at the billing history I also found that several other charges had been made that I had no recollection of, with three "card validation fees" at the cost of $1 each and a $34.95 "toolkit" which I never purchased.

I sent an email to request a refund because these are several charges I did not consent to but received a generic reply that I see on another Revdex.com review. No effort was made to genuinely review my issue. I would never have shared my credit card details with this company knowing what I know now- my experience is that they charge you and there is no avenue for recourse - you will only get an automated reply. In addition, there are many discrepancies between what is advertised, the terms and conditions and what is displayed on the website which makes it confusing for the customer.

Shaw Academy needs to genuinely review their business practice and the website so that it is less misleading and exploitative.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of what I have been charged - in total 107.94 and that you remove all my credit card details from your site. You should genuinely review your business practice and aggressive marketing tactics.

When logging into my account, I can't see anything on the Homepage or any other pages. I emailed them already but their responses are not helpful!
I don't see anything in my Homepage anymore every time I try to sign-in into my account in Shaw Academy. I need to access my account to get my e-certificate that I paid for. I am still on their 4-week free trial offer now and today is the due date for it to be renewed to a regular subscription. I am worried they might charge my credit card for subscription already and yet I can't even use their services because of this issue. I already contacted them around 5 times already. I got 2 responses from two different customer supports but those replies are not helpful at all. Just plainly canned responses they used to send to their customers. It is really frustrating that they are actually not helping out in this matter. I am really wanting to get my e-Certificate but with this technical problem, not possible at all. Added to my stress is the subscription they will be charging me and yet I am not able to use their services.

Desired Outcome

I am looking forward to being able to use my Shaw Academy account again and get the e-Certificate that I paid for. I am hoping that the loading issue of my Homepage and other pages will get fixed as soon as possible. I am also hoping I won't get charge for the subscription yet while it is still not fixed. I don't want to be paying for those days that I am not able to use their platform at all.

Unauthorized charge of $34 despite free trial
I have been offered free trial period for four weeks and free ecertificate and tool kit but I still cancelled it on phone. But they have still charged me $34 despite I cancel my subscription right away

Desired Outcome

They have to refund me my money as that was unauthorized

Its resolved

Was scammed into buying a "toolkit" through a "one-click purchase" popup, and then charged tuition after I'd requested to be removed from the course.
On March 27th I had been attempting to reschedule my classes when a pop-up flashed as I was clicking a date on the calendar, which apparently caused me to "purchase" a toolkit through a "one-click/buy now" option. Truly sneaky. When I requested a refund as I had decided to quit the course, I was told by their agent Paul that they would not refund it, and instead offered me *additionalresources and told me to get back to studying (even after I had explained I would no longer be pursuing the course as I did not agree with their professional conduct). It was truly underhanded.

I had then explicitly requested to be removed from the course (on the same day, March 27th). On April 14th I was charged tuition for the course!! They had failed to remove me from the course as asked. Given prior dealings, I am doubtful that a refund will be given.

A major part of wanting to quit the program was the awful phone calls at literally ALL hours of the day and night from Shaw Agents to tell me that my course was starting in 12 hours/24 hours/1 hour, etc, as well as constant emails, and then generally shady conduct as exemplified by the underhanded "one-click/purchase now" pop-up (that was endorses "in the fine print" as I was later told). Such an incredibly unprofessional group, and an awful business. Consumers deserve far better..

Desired Outcome

I would like the academy to own up to their truly underhanded and unprofessional conduct, and refund me the cost of the unwanted toolkit, as well as the cost of the tuition for a course I had clearly requested to be removed from (yet was totally steam-rolled and told to 'go back to studying'). It is over $100.00 that they have taken from me through very underhanded and unprofessional measures.

While they DID finally send me a refund, and I appreciate it, it should never have taken as long as it did, nor should I have had to contact the Revdex.com or reach out to multiple customer service departments. The request was completely valid from the very beginning, and I believe that this company was dishonest and unprofessional in their initial handling of the situation. Had they refunded the payment as requested, without requiring such a fight, I may have felt differently. This company behaved unprofessionally, and dealing with them was an unnecessary stressor in an already very trying time.

I received 2 unauthorized charges plus 1 overcharge. When brought to the attention of the company, they refused to reverse the charges.
I received 2 unauthorized charges plus 1 overcharge. When brought to the attention of the company, they refused to reverse the charges. These are simply charges that I did not make or consent to. However they have their systems set up to save my card info as they've cleverly collected to sign up for their free trial, and however they have their back end system set up, I'm getting charged for no reason. And they give you round about excuses of why they can't reverse. This is called stealing.

Desired Outcome

A refund of $44.95

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have attempted to communicate with the company on all 3 separate charges over the course of a couple of months and there are underlying unethical businesses practices that I feel must be addressed. The last email I sent was a couple of weeks ago asking them to delete my credit card information and to send me a written confirmation that this has been completed. Silence. I still have not heard from them to this day about this issue. And after reading the extremely high number of complaints, I am seeing that every issue is around the same thing, operations and how/why they are charging users. I also feel that I've been trying to communicate with them for so long that it's now just exhausting it's even about the money anymore. I just want people to know that they are not a good company to be associated with. It shouldn't take extreme actions before they decide to do something about an issue. This should not have taken months. I will email them at this new email address they have provided to see if they have removed my credit card off of their files.

Shaw Academy Response • May 02, 2020

Dear student,

We like so many businesses are encountering extreme challenges stemming from covid-19. The issues we face relate to staff challenges in all of our office locations including staff unable to attend work and also work from home. This is compounded by a massive increase in student volumes given the sudden shock to the world with new levels of unemployment and significant amounts of people worried about their futures. Last week ten times more students joined that would have been expected. Even with a full complement of staff this would have been challenging but in a covid-19 world far more so. This has put considerable strain on our teams in particular, the customer support.

That said, as per your request we have cancelled all of your subscriptions. We have also sent your payment details to our relevant team for refund.

After several attempts Shaw Academy has been unresponsive to my attempts to login to cancel the trial membership, and now they have charged my account
I signed up to try Shaw Academy under a trial, and quickly identified that it was not a program that I thought would be useful for me. I attempted to cancel the membership, but when I went to sign into my account I could not get into my account. I followed the forgot password link on Shaw Academy's site, but never received the email to change the password. I reached out to the company via email and the responded with some unhelpful messages. Finally I got a hold of someone on the phone who said that there was a typo in my sign up and that I had used gmail.con instead of gmail.com in my email. I found this strange since I had been receiving email from the company since I signed up, but I decided the best thing to do would just to have the representative correct the email. He agreed and told me I should be able to sign into the account after about an hour. Unfortunately, this still didn't work and I have begun to communicate with them over email again.

I am still unable to get into my account and during this back and forth, I have now been charged for the monthly membership ($59.99). I am still unable to access my account and based on the other reviews on Revdex.com I want to get a hold of this problem as soon as possible. I don't want this company to have access to my card number and to continue charging me while I can't even get into my account to cancel it.

Desired Outcome

Refund the $59.99 and cancel my membership as communicated in my email and phone call with the company well before the end of the trail period.

I have signed up for Free Trail on Shaw Academy and it charged me 1 month subscription of 70CAD without my authorization on Paypal. I need the refund.
I saw an ad on Instagram to signup for free trail of 4 weeks on Shaw Academy. I signed up for free trail and I had to give payment details to open free trail account. Once I finished registration and opened my account, I noticed it charged me for full subscription of 1 month without my authorization. This is illegal way of charging money from users without the authorization.

Desired Outcome

I was wrongly charged for a subscription that I did not sign up for and it is impossible to contact customer service.
I was charged 59.99 through pay pal. I have never signed up for any kind of subscription. I looked through all of my emails to see if maybe I accidently signed up for a free trial and I didn't find a single email from them, ever. I tried to find a contact to get it resolved and I just kept getting an automated voicemail saying their phones are turned off.

Desired Outcome

I signed up for the 4 week free Shaw Academy. They billed me $29.99 before the 4 weeks was up and won't refund even though I cancelled within the time frame. During my 4th and final week I got a phone call from someone at Shaw Academy. He was trying to get me to buy more weeks. I said I was only interested in the free 4 weeks and was going to cancel to avoid having to pay. He said make sure you cancel by Saturday. I cancelled on Friday but was still charged $29.99. I've been in email communication with them and they said that they won't refund my $29.99.

S.A. deceptively made it so I could not fully cancel my trial membership on the app by necessary date b/c they required a phone call as the final step
I got a free four week trial for Shaw Academy on 2/19/2020. I did not want to continue so at the end of the trial period on 3/18/2020 I went to cancel on their app. I selected the necessary buttons to cancel but then it said that as a final step I had to call. I called but the business was closed for the day and didn't allow for messages. I then called as soon as their business opened the next morning (3/19/2020, 10 a.m.) to cancel. I spoke to one female associate and our phone call got disconnected. I called back and spoke to a male associate. He said that my account was cancelled. I later learned that my credit card was charged on 3/20/2020 despite me having cancelled. I tried to resolve the issue with Shaw Academy but they said that they could not refund me because they claim the "terms and conditions were made readily available." I disagree. I was not notified that a phone call during their normal business hours would be required. I went to cancel the subscription during the period of the 4-week trial and therefore should not have been charged. I believe Shaw Academy uses deceptive practices when it comes to cancelling their service. I did not get written "terms and conditions" or any thing that listed necessary steps to cancel when I signed up for the trial.
Otherwise I was pleased with their service.

Desired Outcome

I demand a full refund. I also think that they should email clients when they start with a free trial with written terms and conditions including clearly specified steps for cancellation. Also, the app should allow a client to cancel the service or if a phone call is absolutely necessary a message should be allowed to be left so that the person can cancel on the same date they attempt to cancel.

Charged me before trial was over
I started a 4 week trial program with the online course. There is an online profile that will tell you how many days are left of your trial. On the 6th of March, I looked at it and it said two days left. I then went on the following day on the 7th and canceled the program. It then did not show one day left but show that I had started the next month program and already paid for it. I checked my account and they charged me on the 7th for the following month. The charge went out of pending on the 8th. The last day was completely taken away from me and acted as if it never existed. When I emailed them in multiple different ways first they gave me a run around and then sent me two of the same automated email saying that they looked into it and that I should understand the contract and that they charged me accordingly. They won't even hear otherwise. Being as it was an automated email back to me I'm assuming this happens often and they do it often. I don't know what sort of lawful action I'd be allowed to take being as they charged me one day before they were supposed to and they're trying to tell me that they honored their contract and they have not in fact. Perhaps there might be a system flaw. But I am only basing the fact that I had that one day taken from me based on the numbers that they showed on their website on the 6th.

Desired Outcome

I would like $59.99 refunded to my account on their file

It took filling a fraud claim with me bank and with Revdex.com, they finally refunded me the funds. With no word since their last email saying they wouldn't help.

I signed up for a free online 4-week leadership course. After the first course, I realized the course was not free. I cancelled and they charged me.
After the first course, I realized I had to purchase course materials and the certificate. That's not free! I didn't attend another class. They contacted me several times for missing class and I advised them that I wanted to cancel. I was told my account would be noted. I continued to receive reminders about class so I went online to cancel. It took me through several screens until it said I had to call to cancel. I called and a recording answered the call and said your call will be returned by a representative. No one ever called. I was then charged 29.99 for the course that I never attended nor did I intend on attending. This school is fraud. They never answered my calls or email requests. I was unable to cancel anytime, as stated. The course was garbage. And every person that contacted me about a class lied about making a note and hung up so quickly.

Desired Outcome

I want my money back! I was robbed! I asked multiple times prior to the 4 week deadline to cancel and they purposely ignored me to charge me for something that I never even used! I never attended a full class. I took the end of a class after they harassed me and I was not impressed! This is fraud! I want my money back so I can feel like this never happened.

I received an unauthorized charge of $59.99 after canceling my subscription before my 4-week free trial period ended.
I signed up for Shaw Academy's 4-week free trial for their graphic design program. I canceled my subscription after 48-hours as I did not like how intrusive their service is. After canceling, the site said I would NOT be charged. As of yesterday, I received an unauthorized charge of $59.99. After receiving the charge, I had to cancel my subscription a second time by calling their automated service that berates you about not following your goals. I got in contact with their priority support team (Ticket #XXXXXXX) but they refuse to provide me a refund for this charge. I demand to receive a refund as I canceled my subscription before the free trial ended and did not authorize to be charged. I am NOT interested in all of the free offers that the support team member has already tried pushing on me. He keeps referring to the terms and conditions but the terms and conditions clearly state that customers with a free trial will NOT be charged if they cancel their subscription before the end of the trial period.

Desired Outcome

I demand a full refund of $59.99 as I did not agree to continue my subscription and had already canceled my subscription before my free trial expired.

I was charged by Shaw, even though I specifically remember not finishing signing up, and they won't cancel my "subscription" or issued me a refund.
Around the end of April, I started to sign up for the free trial Shaw offers and I specifically remember not finishing because I was on the fence about it. A couple of days after, I get a voicemail from a CA number saying I didn't finish registration and that they would send me an email offering me to sign up for their classes, no mention of actually who sent the vm (no company name or even the callers name). Fast forward to a month later (still with no emails from Shaw, which I was fine with because I knew I didn't finish signing up), I know have a charge on my bank account from them (I didn't even remember who Shaw was, I had to look it up) for $59.99. So I emailed them and I got an automated email (just like the ones I see them sending to ppl here after they complain) stating that I used my debit card to sign up and so they have the right to charge me after my free trial ( which I never received or even signed up for) and that's their policy and they can't issue a refund. It also talks about emails I should've received, which I have ZERO from them. Not even a confirmation email that says I signed up and that I need to register for classes. So I contacted them again and so far, I've gotten the same email back 3 times. They won't even cancel my subscription, they just keep offering me other deals. I tried calling the number back that I got the VM from and it doesn't connect to anyone so can't even talk to someone on the phone. There's not even a number on the website! Even though I put my debit card info in, I never finished signing up for the free trial or clicked anything that said "register" or "finish registration," so it seems very unlawful that I was charged. It even says in the voicemail I received (which I'm most certain it's from Shaw even though they don't mention it) that I didn't finish registration. And again, I have no emails from them stating that I had even signed up or was in a trial period. I need a refund And for them to cancel my subscription (which they act like they will not do). I will not pay for services I didn't want in the first place and therefore never used.

Desired Outcome

I want a complete refund for the first paid month and for them cancel anything I have with them.

Shaw Academy advertises a free 4 week program but they charge your credit card as soon as you sign up
Shaw academy advertises a 4 week FREE program. It requests a credit card and says you can cancel at any time and will ONLY charge your credit card if you decide to continue after the free period. They charged my credit card immediately. I emailed them to contact within minutes of signing up for this FREE program.
April 10,2020 I paid with my mastercard. They would not refund me but could offer me $900 worth of lessons. This is what they sent to me after countless emails.

I have reviewed your email and this matter further however, unfortunately there is no way at all a refund can be processed for you. Unfortunately, the issue remains that the terms and conditions were made readily available, you have accepted them and actually inserted payment details for a free trial/subscription service which had subsequent payments related to it, hence the request for your card which you duly provided and the making available of our terms and conditions furthermore we made available the content for which the payment was made. We cannot offer a refund in these circumstances.

I want to help you. During our last exchange I had taken the action of ensuring your account was canceled which it is and had offered a solution whereby we would provide 6-month access worth an awful lot of money free of charge as I just want to help.

I have tried to come up with something further and the very best I can possibly do is to increase that to 12-months access worth $699 totally free of charge plus one complete course toolkit and e-certificates worth $199.

I went in thinking this was free and unfortunately when I go online I see that this company has an ongoing reputation of this bad behavior. Are you able to help me get my refund of $69.99?

Desired Outcome

I am seeking to have my $69.99 refunded.

I had contacted the company minutes after I had signed up for a free class that was advertised on facebook. It stated that you would not be charged unless you decided to continue with class after 4 weeks. I had the notification on my mastercard that there was an international charge on my card and this is how I knew right away. I had spent the week back and forth with a representative. I have not logged onto any of their courses . He kept telling me that he couldn't refund me but could offer hundreds of dollars of free additional support. This is only one of the emails that he sent to me followed by one where he urges me to sign in.

Hi ***,

Thank you for reaching out again.

This is very much an exception as I have listened to everything you said and I am doing everything to improve your satisfaction and help you to achieve your goals.

What I now request that you do is go into your account and select when you want to start back studying and lets achieve your goals.

I look forward to hearing of your future successes.

Kind regards,
Patrick I am disappointed with the fact that they lure people in during this time of crisis. We are at home looking for things to do and have lost our jobs. When I googled more about the company I can see that there are tons of complaints regarding this. I just want a refund and to be done with this company.

I was pleased to see that the refund will happen in 5-7 days but will obviously have to wait to see if this will happen. Then half an hour after receiving this email from the Revdex.com, the company Shaw charged my credit card with another 69.99.
This should be considered fraud because they should no longer be using my credit card number. I am on hold with the credit card company to see what my options are at this point and whether I have to get my credit card replaced. Can I leave this open for now until the problem is resolved.
