request for a refund since you did not feel safe staying at your confirmed
hotel.
 
I have reviewed your reservation and determined that you
selected an offer to book your hotel in the [redacted] - [redacted] area. I
reviewed the location of your confirmed hotel and verified that it is within
the shaded area of the map that we presented for the [redacted] - [redacted]
area. Under normal circumstances, your reservation is non-refundable.
However, we were able to get approval from our hotel
partner to make an exception and process a full refund.
 
A refund for 53.90 USD was issued today, July 18, 2016.
Your refund will be processed through our system within one business day. If
you need to check the status of your refund after a few business days, please
contact your bank directly to inquire about their processing time.

I am rejecting this response because:On reading this text from Priceline I can see that the cancellation policy — and the fact that you cannot get a refund — is explained at the very end. But it is not called attention to in any special way. If it is not possible to...

get a refund most other e-commerce sites put that information in bold type or call attention to it so the customer really notices it. This is a clearly established best practice in the world of online shopping. Priceline buries this information amidst all the other text on the site. I never saw it and assumed that my purchase would be refundable. I have made reservations many times via other sites like Expedia and have been able to cancel. I just assumed this would be the same. As a consumer I am appalled that Priceline operates their business in this way. I can see that as a consumer I may not have any other options for resolution to get my money back, but if the Revdex.com has any suggestions I would be very grateful. I think it is a reprehensible business practice that Priceline is happy to simply take $500 from me when of course they could refund my reservation if they wanted to.Is it possible for the Revdex.com to urge Priceline to add more prominent messaging indicating that reservations are not refundable? At least this would be helpful for future customers to not have the same experience that I'm having.Thank you so much for your help with this.

I am in receipt of the
complaint initiated by the above-mentioned consumer and appreciate the
opportunity to respond.
 
According to Mr. [redacted], he
selected Priceline's Name Your Own Price hotel service and chose the area
labeled [redacted]; however, received hotel accommodations...

in the [redacted] area
and not the [redacted] area.
 
Once the consumer selects his/her
desired area(s), and provides all the details of the trip on our website, we
summarize the consumer’s request on the checkout/contract page. The consumer is
then asked to review his/her request and initial the box at the end of the
summary to authorize the terms and conditions of the selected purchase, and
confirm that the travel details, including the area(s) selected, are accurate.
In the event the consumer’s offer summary shows a mistake, or incorrect city
area, the consumer can go back and change it before he/she clicks "Buy
Now."
Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. [redacted]’s initialed contract page agreeing to
the non-refundable, non-changeable terms and conditions of the purchase, as
well as authorizing the city area of [redacted] for his hotel room location.
Attached hereto, please also find a copy of the Name Your Own Price website
listing the area map for the [redacted] region for selection. Please note
that #6-[redacted] is listed directly below #5-[redacted].
Upon contacting Priceline, Mr. [redacted]
was offered the option to cancel and resubmit for the correct area. With this
option, we charge a one night cancel fee at the time of cancellation, and if
the customer rebooks a new reservation we refund 50% of the cancel fee. Our
record indicates that Mr. [redacted] declined this option.
Additionally, in efforts to assist
the consumer and as a goodwill gesture, Priceline contacted the hotel partner
to inquire if they would allow an exception to the cancel policy, and they
advised that they were unable to offer a full refund and a one night cancel fee
would apply.
We are sorry that the consumer’s
selected purchase is non-refundable and non-changeable, and we are unable to
assist with a refund.

I am rejecting this response because: Priceline continues to fail to address the material point. The [redacted] Place is described on Priceline's website as being “downtown.” I relied on that description in selecting my search criteria because I specifically did not want the [redacted] Place to be within my search. Hence, none of the areas that I selected for search include “downtown.” Priceline's terminology is misleading – apparently deliberately so because: (1) Priceline uses one location description in the hotel description and then changes the definition in the search criteria. This change in definition would only come to the attention of the consumer if the consumer were to assume that Priceline’s location description was false; (2) Priceline refuses to correct the issues with its website despite an obvious track record of customer complaints regarding misleading location descriptions and the relative ease of correcting the description (compared to the effort of responding to numerous customer complaints); and (3) Pricline persists in refusing to address the actual issue, which is indefensible.Priceline appears to be taking the position that it can include misleading descriptions on its website and then blame the customer for relying on the description. There is nothing in the "agreement" that Priceline has attached that preserves a non-existent right to mislabel locations, nor is there any waiver of the right to rely on Priceline's plain-English description of the property. Moreover, Priceline refuses to put me in contact with an employee who is capable of understanding the issue, instead directing all inquiries to [redacted] in Executive Offices who simply parrots the same response without ever giving any indication that she actually understands the basis for the dispute. These are typical bait-and-switch tactics followed by a refusal to engage on the actual issue. I have requested to be put in contact with Priceline's legal department. Priceline has not responded.

I am rejecting this response because: I looked up this flight again through priceline 1 week later, and it still showed the same flight and same price were available. I didn't try to book it though, I have since purchased my flight through a different, honest service. I'm no longer interested in the flight through priceline, and will never do business with them again.

We have received the
consumer’s additional comments. The consumer contacted one of our Chat Customer Care
agents advising that a lower
rate of $90.91 was located and requested a refund based
on our price guarantee. However, the agent was unable to complete the Best Price
Guarantee due to scheduled pick up time being 12:05 AM instead 12:00 AM. The
agent was later able to find an itinerary that matched on priceline.com with a
rate of $97.94, which was still lower than the $114.24 purchase. The agent
advised that Priceline would refund 100% of the difference to match that rate.
The difference between rates is $16.30. However, Priceline refund 200% of the
difference and provided the consumer with a refund of $32.60, which was
processed back to the consumer’s account on February 11, 2016. Therefore, the total
amount for the reservation is now only $81.64, which is lower than the $90.91
rate the consumer found on [redacted]. We are sorry that we are unable to assist the consumer with
a refund any further in this situation.

* Hello [redacted] We resolved this with the help of Alaska Airlines to stop the cancellation of the flights.  The options on the complaint, would have been more viable several weeks back.  So based on the all other attempt to resolve we resolved a planned around these fights.  However the choice to cancel the fights the day before with no response to them being cancelled officially until it was less than 24 hours before the scheduled flights was insulting.  And we were pleased with [redacted]s helping resolve this.  And Im still not please with Priceline.com for choosing to do this the last minute.  But to repeat this complaint at the moment has been resolved as we did not take the refund and kept the tickets.  Thank you for your response.

I am rejecting this response because:1. Priceline lied about the hotel room availability: it was communicated to me, Priceline, checked the hotel directly and was unable to find available room/rooms, but when I checked myself, I confirmed their lie, also sent Priceline a screenshot as a proof. 2. Priceline initially reserved my "2 bedrooms requested" as one king (confirmed by the hotel on August 21st). This shows failure in their operation management. It was too late to solve the issue with Priceline's desired option (the cheapest). So they decided to let me choose between a convenient option to them, or deal with it. 3. It was communicated with Priceline that an option was available (reserve another room), they simply rejected with no reason. There should be some type of consequences to such lack of honesty and poor costumer service. They should pay for ruining my vacation. I am requesting some sort of refund as a compensation.

I am rejecting this response because:When I joined in the contract with Priceline I specifically requested 3 flight tickets and a rental car; that is what I initialed and agreed to. During the process I didn't know that Priceline was going to try and scam me by raising the price and excluding the rental car. Priceline should have made it perfectly clear there was no rental car included instead of the tiny print. I see the fine print now, however I didn't know that I needed to have a lawyer present to buy airline tickets and a rental car. It's still shady and sneaky, and the reason that I will not be doing business with Priceline unless they resolve this honorably.

I am rejecting this response because:I NEVER 'NAMED MY OWN PRICE!"  I do not deny that I entered all of that other information, what I am disputing is that when I touched the Name Your Own Price Tab on my [redacted], I searched every page for the field to "Name My Own Price."  I was only pressing "Next" to continue filling out requested information.  It must have auto-filled a price of the last hotel that I looked at prior to starting the "Name Your Own Price" process.  I am extremely frustrated with Priceline and their policies as I called them within seconds of the error and they refused to help me.  I will never use their service or the services of [redacted] which they recently purchased.  If they did this to a poorer person, this kind of charge on someone's card could max their card and keep them from buying necessities for their family.  That's why I am fighting and plan to take this up in small claims court.

Executive Offices. Iunderstand your request for a full refund since you opted not to stay at the property because of their policy of notallowing guests to have visitors after 10:00 PM.I checked our records and confirmed that you booked through our service that does not reveal the specific hotel untilafter purchase. Hotels have varying policies regarding guests having visitors, and because the hotel is not known prior topurchase, we are unable to disclose information about specific hotel policies during the booking process. As a consumer,it is up to you to decide if you want to proceed with the booking with the possibility that you might receive a hotel withlimited visiting hours.We have contacted the [redacted] to research your concern; however, the General Manager advised that they didnot confirm any refunds for your reservation.
