Godaddy's Hosting Deceptive Sales Practices
Godaddy salesperson, Luis on the 23rd of May sold me a server and said they would migrate for meHe told me the server would be able to handle my capacity needs
I bought the migration at and the server at monthlyAfter hours of the purchase, they told me they would no longer be able to migrate from my old serverI asked to cancel the order and it took over a week for me to receive my refund
I still wanted to move to Godaddy so I just needed skmeone to migrateI found a company Fantasktic that charged me $so I purchased the server again for $
It took Fantasktic a few days to migrate my files to Godaddy and when we finally got there the server kept crashing
I called tech support at Godaddy and they said that my CPU usage was more than available for the planI asked them why Luis (their salesperson) would sell it to me and they said there was no way they could know if the server would handle my files

I had auto renewal on for my Web Hosting account not only the auto renew feature was turned off some how but also the payment card number for renewal was being used was an old credit card which I had deleted years ago on my go daddy accountThe most updated active citi bank card was on file and set as default payment but was not selected for auto renewal charges I had renewed my hosting for months but it was only renewed for month on 19th February
I called on 31st March and spoke to billing, before calling, I could see the Web Hosting tab in my account but right after I started speaking to Justin on phone the WebHosting Tab was removed from account on purpose to charge me more money
I was told that I need to pay $in order to renew my hosting because today was the 20th day since my Hosting had expired, I informed the representative that I have been a loyal customer for years and have done business through out only with Go Daddy
I have used Go Daddy since for three businesses I signed up for a year at aLtime for each account I am totally against auto debit because of problems in the past I explained upon signing that I would renew online
I have two closed businesses I closed in 2015, one closed in I did not renew any of the The three accounts with Go Daddy were on a business credit card I paid off the credit card (should have cancelled it) Lot of transactions over the years, should have checked
Just received a charge for Go Daddy They have been charging my account for over years even though no activity
Called today and found out on automatic renewal, even though I said NO when ordering
The rep with Go Daddy said oh well, its in our deal to auto renewal You should have called to cancel auto renewal I said I never authorized and cancelled from the beginningThey sent emails to a defunct email address I am now a retired consultant and help small businesses The people at Go Daddy clearly demonstrated the $a year for accounts is more important than their goodwill!
BE SURE TO CANCEL AUTO RENEWAL AND DOCUMENT
MY recomendation to my clients: 1) NEVER GO DADDY 2) Do not trust companies to do the right thing 3) Document all coorespondence
The attitude of the Rep was a "I don't care" this is my job True, I mentioned the goodwill he is hurting and he said he "didn't like my attitude" I know he was just doing his job A little common sense would go a long way to protect business A goodwill lesson from years ago, "You treat someone good, they might tell someone else You treat them bad, they are guaranteed to tell someone else."
I've been a loyal customer for yearsHowever, I have never been mislead or deceived as badly as today by any companyCharging and preventing a transfer of a domain and turning my autoreneawl on without my permission along with not being honest upfront of charges and conditions, is obscuredYou should care more about your customers, not blaming them, and be more honest with them before any purchasesWhat's worse is the customer service agents saying there is nothing that they can do -- even though it is your faultUnbelievable
I was on the phone for over hour minutes without complete resolution for an extremely simple issue I requested to speak with a manager and was not able to, I was then to expect a call back from a manager and still have not received one
I recently called godaddy to cancel my hosting service for *** hosting

The sales guy on the other side said all files and wordpress site will be restoredThe company charged me $to restoreWhen I went to check the site, I saw none of the ftp accounts, set up or anything related to our files were restored
I spoke with a VERY rude customer support person and he said even though the sales person promised me that the file can be recovered what we have is just some database backups and that he will not provide any refund
I mentioned several times that WordPress set up is all I wanted and that's why I purchased the restore service and yet, he wont listen to me and told me I am not entitled to a refund for not keeping a promise provided by the sales guy

GoDaddy reversed an annual payment in the amount of $251, six weeks after the payment cleared our PayPal account and shut down our website at ***To make matters worse, they have been advertising Go Daddy services on this domain without paying the required $flat fee
I have used Go Daddy for many years for domains and more recently Outlook service for my business email The program crashed last week and I spent numerous hours trying to get help from them to fix it After having to uninstall it, do a fix and re-install it I find that all of my business folders with important information are missing Go Daddy tech support will take no responsibility and, in fact, continued to tell me it is all my fault I am not a tech person, I am a financial services professional I hire companies like Go Daddy to do the tech support and if there was something I needed to know about how to save my files, they needed to tell me BEFORE this happened and now take responsibility to help me recover the lost files Instead, they just tell me it's my fault Bad Business practices!
There was a site that was created about myself from someone that is slanderous and also misrepresents myself, I have contacted the company about this matter and in their privacy policy it states that any information about a person without their written permission is not acceptableYour right to processAny owner of content has the right to process a takedown notice against a website owner and/or an Online Service Provider (e.gISP, hosting company etc.) if the content owner's property is found online without their permission. You will not collect or harvest (or permit anyone else to collect or harvest) any User Content (as defined below) or any non-public or personally identifiable information about another User or any other person or entity without their express prior written consent.Violates the privacy or publicity rights of another User or any other person or entity, or breaches any duty of confidentiality that you owe to another User or any other person or entity; are all stated
Go Daddy has continued to charge my credit card for services that I have not usedI closed my business almost years ago and they are still charging meThey said my account was on auto renewal, which I never signed up forI didn't even know about itI called within days of my card being charged and they refused to give me a refundThis is a deceptive practice!! They should not be able to charge you without your knowledge or sign you up for auto-renewal without your knowledge
My business credit card temporarily went expired on my GoDaddy.com account, which I've had in good standing for years When I received notice by email that my card was expired, I adjusted the expiration date to the new one within a day or two My account does not show any past-due, collections, or any other derogatory information However, I ended up getting letters from an unknown (to me) third party stating that my business was sent to collections (on the date of my bill's due date mind you) After receiving two of these, I decided that I'll just double check with GoDaddy by calling them The billing support had no information on my account that anything was wrong, and had no idea who the third-party collections was So I decided that it was a phishing scam, and posted a Revdex.com to alert others The company replied and did due diligence to contact GoDaddy, and I ended up receiving a call from a "supervisor" at GoDaddy to email him Ok, cool, I can do that and it's documented I email him and he just replies with a pasted quote from their (hidden) policy regarding the third-party collections company they work with I reply to him asking him what I'm supposed to do with that and what he's looking for from me, and I have not heard back
This review is intended to alert others of my experience, and that I have done my research to see if/why my GoDaddy account was in collections, with no clear notification or call-out My discovery was that the third-party covers the amount being billed after a failed attempt, and so it will look like your account is fine, but then you immediately get collection notices For the record, I am on auto-pay with GoDaddy I am looking to pay the amount owed to the third-party, and am not trying to get out of that, but that I think it's very poor service and procedure to not mark a payment as being covered and posting a link to the policy, so that a person knows who and why the third-party is that is contacting you by mail for monies
GoDaddy.com's service performance and other logistics are why I have moved all but one of my clients off their services in the last years, and am scheduled to move the last client off by the end of this year
Today GoDaddy ripped off my company for $ I was attempting to buy two domain names They charged me $to get each one for me but actually charged me to allow me to make an offer They said I need to offer between and after charging me the 140! I mad an offer and then they came back and said I need an opening offer of $2, What the heck is an opening offer? I am bidding against myself? Worse yet, both domains were available when I checked them Sunday evening I was told by a local IT professional that GoDaddy buys them after you look at them so they can then make a killing selling to you! Great job GoDaddy I own three other companies and you have been hosting us for years at each one That is all ending today as we are signing with a local hosting company because I do not reward people for taking advantage of me
I have dealt with GoDaady as a registrar for many years and held them in highest esteem until I decided to use them to host my site when my nightmare beganI am a software developer and an intranetwork engineer and have been in my profession for the last years
Security Warning
I started with a shared windows hosting ($/ month) on June and soon realized that their .net offering was not upto date as they claimedMy apps were written in Asp.net core I was told that they would be upgrading soon, but that never happenedAfter weeks of waiting and realizing the limitation of the shared environment and overcoming my disappointment , I moved to purchase a Virtual Private Server account on July Disappointed because they refused to give any credit towards the new purchase which I had to do due to their limitationsI chose the self managed option as I am highly experienced in my field As a rule I do a security monitoring before uploading my files when I discovered that I was a target of brute force attack On a Windows server you can see this happening on the Event Viewer when every second a login attempt is being made with different user namesThis began within 24hrs of me signing up Let me also add here that the domain name I was using was brand new and had nothing to indicating anything special was behind it
When I informed GoDaddy about this, they convinced me that they would have a resolution within hrsBeing busy with everything else I came to realize on July that I was still waiting for a resolutionWhen I called them now they started a parrot like repetition saying that on a self managed server, it was my responsibility to prevent getting hacked and that their parent servers were their only concern GoDaddy's solution was for me to pay them more money so they can manage When I asked them if they would be moving my domain to a different machine, they said "NO" that was not required
As much as I agree with protecting my assets, here are the problems with those statements
(a) The server that I purchased exists on their physical network, the IP address is provisioned by them and to reach my server, every connection must pass through their routers & a (phantom) firewallThe attacks don't originate out of thin air as they make it seem like the machine I was given was sitting in an open field
(b) So they can't answer what changes the security situation when my domain does not use a different machine
I used a program called VisualRoute, day free trial and realized what a poorly configured network they have Every responsible company has a fiduciary of providing a first line of defense against Denial of Service, DDoS etcas this also affects the performance GoDaddy miserably fails in this aspect Another point to note is they do not indicate their lack of protecting you anywhere on their website nor on the phone
Inter-departmental Communications break
Their Customer Development Department called me as I was getting ready to ask for a full refund since I could not use their service at all due to security issues Their promise to refund turned into a phone transfer nightmare between their accounting department & the hosting department who did not honor that and start to point out my "inability" As though it's ok for this hacking to go on
No higher ups to help
When tying to get to a supervisor's supervisor, they will simply refuse to give a even an email address saying you have reached the end of the rope
Billing Issues
I also realized that when I moved on to the VPS, the sales person assured me that the shared hosting is cancelled and there was nothing else I need to do That was not true as I was charged $on July 15thI know it's a small amount but not only this would add up eventually but it's also the principle
Bottomline & Resolution
Bottom line is buyers beware and please ask the appropriate questions based on what I have written here
By all means AVOID GoDaddy I found a host that seems to satisfy all that I was looking for, at least so far I had to file a Dispute with my financial institution and got a full refund as GoDaddy will trick you to wait and inform you that you went past the hr mark
This is a bad site Charge you for everything not a one price fits all outfit No cancellation policy would not recommend to any startups or anybody for that fact
This company is completely unethical They charge a fee to register a domain name for a certain period of time What they don't tell you (cause it's all in the fine print) is that they will automatically renew you at the end of the term for the following period unless you cancel that auto renew option I found out that I was charged the full fee for the next years when it showed up on my credit card bill I called them to cancel it since I did not use the domain name at all They told me I only had days to cancel After the day period they could not refund even one cent back to me! I am stuck with a domain that I never intended to use for the next years I asked what happens if someone dies and they go into auto renewal They said company policy is no refund after days This is completely unethical DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHADY COMPANY!!
