Time, Inc. Reviews (333)

Review: I was a paid subscriber to a Time publication called "AllYou" magazine. The last magazine I received was the December 2015 issue. I called customer service today 2/**/16 and the very rude off-shore representative told me I would get a letter. I find it hard to believe they didn't know this was coming & inform subscribers sooner. From statements I've read on the AllYou website & [redacted] page there are many who haven't received their letters. This is very shoddy business practice. No explanation given at all. I want a full monetary refund of my subscription. I do not want it applied to another one of their magazines.Desired Settlement: Full monetary refund of my remaining subscription. I do not want it applied to another magazine.

Response:

Dear Revdex.com Mediation Department:Thank you for forwarding [redacted]'s concerns regarding ALL YOU magazine which has ceased publication. Please be assured a refund has been processed to [redacted] for the remaining unserved issues of the ALL YOU subscription. We certainly apologize to [redacted] for any inconvenience she may have experienced.Sincerely,Time Inc.

Review: I subscribed to Time Magazine a year ago. As is my custom I made certain that I was not signing up for any automatic renewal options. Yesterday I received an email (invalid return address, invalid phone numbers and invalid customer service website link) saying I had paid for a renewal. Today I received an email from Paypal showing they had issued the payment. I have cancelled all subscriptions with Time Magazine and their customer service has sent an email confirming the cancellation and saying they will issue a refund. However, I don't think that is adequate. They need to actually issue the refund and they need to stop the business practice of voluntarily enrolling people without permission in autorenewal programs.Desired Settlement: See agove.

Dear Revdex.com Mediation Department:

Thank you for forwarding [redacted]'s concerns regarding TIME magazine. I appreciate this opportunity to be of assistance.

First, I want to apologize to [redacted] for any inconvenience he may have experienced. According to our records, we received instructions to process a 53-issue order of TIME Magazine on April *, 2013, for $30.00, which was part of an automatic renewal program. [redacted]'s 2013 52-issue contract was fully served through May *, 2014. As stated in the promotion, the subscription would be renewed unless we received notification to cancel. Therefore, the TIME magazine subscription renewed on March **, 2014 for the next 53-issue term. For your reference, attached is a copy of the TIME Magazine online promotion accepted on April *, 2013. The e-mail address is [redacted]

Please be assured the TIME Magazine subscription was cancelled on March **, 2014, and a full refund of $44.95 was issued. If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Review: I was billed by Sports Illustrated for a subscription renewal and repeatably dunned for the payment. At the same time I was sent a prior renewal bill for the same subscription from [redacted]. I never contacted Subscriber Services prior to them contacting me so they had to get my private subscriber information from Sports Illustrated. I sent paymentsd to both groups for the same subscription. I contacted Sports Illustrated and got different information from different people regarding if Subscriber Services had a business relationship with Sports Illustrated (one said they did, one said they didn't). They told me to contact Subscriber Services as they could not help me resolve this issue.I have attempted to contact Subscriber Services but could only leave a message for them to call me back.I feel Sports Illustrated owes me an answer on how Subscriber Services got my private subscriber information, on what they are going to do about the double billing, and if they have a business relationship with Subscriber Services. I have sent an e-mail follow up to Sports Illustrated on the same issue.I would like to file a formal complaint on Sports Illustrated and if I don't get a response on Subscriber Services.

Dear Revdex.com Mediation Department:

Thank you for forwarding Sanford Pearl's concerns regarding SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, a Time Inc. publication. I appreciate this opportunity to be of assistance.

Please be advised that Subscriber Payment Services has no affiliation with SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine (or any Time Inc. publication), and is not authorized to sell our magazines as a subscription agency. We are concerned that people who have no relationship with our company are representing themselves as legitimate distributors/agents of our magazine, and would like to take appropriate action to prevent such misrepresentation. We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

I checked our subscriber records and found that your SPORTS ILLUSTRATED subscription was ordered directly with us and is currently serving issues through October **, 2014. Let me again assure you that Time Inc. has no involvement with Subscriber Payment Services and once again, we thank you for bringing the fraudulent activities of this particular agency to our attention.

If you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact me directly.

Sincerely,

[redacted], Time Inc

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Sports Illustrated denies providing my information to an outside company but there is no other sourse that has that information so I consider Sports Iluustrated's response to not be credible. However, I have decided to cancel my subscription to this magazine as I will not do business with companies that are not reputable.

Thus, while I reject Sports Illustrated's poor excuse for customer service and confidentiality I will not pursue this complaint any further.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: I have a subscription with All You magazine that expires November 2017. The last issue I have received was December 2015. I called customer service on January **,2016 at ###-###-####. I was told that the magazine went out of business and December 2015 was the last issue. I was told that a notice previously went out to me detailing my options. After I told the operator that I had not received such a notice, she said she would send another one and that I should receive it in 7-10 business days. On January **, 2016 when I did not receive a notice, I called again. I was again told I should receive a notice in a few days that would inform me that I could choose another magazine with my remaining subscription amount. On February *, 2016, I called customer service again since I have not received any notice. I was given the same information that I was previously given. I also spoke to a supervisor, and he said that he did not have any additional information to provide to me. I only received three issues from my 24 issue renewal of my subscription.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of my two year subscription renewal.

Review: I have a VIP subscription with [redacted] Magazine. That means you receive 3 VIP boxes throughout the year filled with items. I got the first box fine. In November 2014, I got a message saying my "red carpet" box was on its way. It never came. I sent no less than 30 emails with only 3 replies. I called 3 times and got the standard, "Give it 2 months". In February m I got a postcard that said my box had been shipped to me and if I don't get it to call in 10 days. I called in April and was told again to give it another 2 months. This is unacceptable.Desired Settlement: I would like the VIP boxes I ordered shipped to me when you say they are on the way

Consumer

Response:

Revdex.com,As stated in my complaint, I've contacted [redacted] magazine repeatedly in regards to not getting the VIP box I paid for. In my last correspondence with them they stated that they didn't have the VIP boxes in stock and I needed to wait two more months. After contacting Revdex.com, I have the very VIP box they said was "out of stock" fed exed to my home! While I'm satisfied with the response, I cant help but note that the only reason I got the VIP box I paid for was solely because I contacted Revdex.com! Hopefully, I won't need to contact you again if I don't get the 3rd box I paid for when that is released.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I have been receiving unsolicited magazine subscriptions from Sports Illustrated. In September I was told that Subco Inc. a fulfillment service had ordered the magazine subscription. I contacted Sports Illustrated customer service on September **, 2015 and was told that the subscription would be canceled but that I would have to contact Subco directly. I did this and supposedly I was placed on Subco’s “internal do not mail list”. The magazine was eventually cancelled. However, on January **, 2016 I received another issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. I DO NOT wish to receive this magazine and would hope that Sports Illustrated will remove my name from their mailing list and refrain from sending me magazine subscriptions in the future unless I personally subscribe to any of Time Inc. magazines. Thank you,Desired Settlement: Stop signing me up for magazine subscriptions through fulfillment services. Especially through Subco Inc. This is a very shady business practice.

Response:

Dear [redacted]:I am in receipt of the complaint filed by Jonathan Rhodes with your office regarding SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, a Time Inc. publication. I appreciate this opportunity to respond. In reviewing our records, I show we received notification from SubCo Inc. magazine agent to cancel the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine subscription on January **, 2016. Since our mailing labels are printed in advance, we ask [redacted] to keep any magazines he receives with our compliment. For the record, the ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY subscription was included with [redacted] purchase on Ticket Solutions. Time Inc. and SubCo are separate companies; SubCo is a magazine agent authorized to sell Time Inc. publications. Therefore, when [redacted] contacted SubCo to have his name removed from their "internal do not mail list," the information wasn't transferred. I certainly apologize for any inconvenience [redacted] may have experienced. Please be assured we have added [redacted] name to Time Inc.'s Do Not Promote Mailing Lists.I appreciate this opportunity to be of service and apologize for any inconvenience this matter may have caused. Sincerely, T. Patterson forBetsy L[redacted], Time Inc.

Review: Cancelled a subscription. The charge is coming out on my debit card soon and they said they couldn't stop the process. They said go dispute the charge with my bank. I said ok, when you take it out can't I call you and have you refund it back to my account. They said no, I had to dispute, knowing that the credit union I go through will now have to eat the charge because it's below a $35 threshold. If they can take it out, they can refund it.Desired Settlement: They refund the $34.95 back on my debit card.

Review: I noticed a questionable charge on my debit card for $35 for "This Old House Magazine" (Time Inc.). The questionable charge on my debit card were reported as; "[redacted]" I called the number to inquire about the charge and was told it was an auto renewal for "This Old House Magazine". I found out they charged me $30 in 2014 as well. I spoke with customer service representative Richard (Operator ID [redacted]) on 9/*/15. Richard did credit my account for the past 2 charges ($35 and $30) but when I inquired about how long I was being charged, the customer service rep could not provide me with a solid answer. They had no record of me subscribing in the past 2-3 yrs, when they started to charge my debit card. Full disclosure, I did subscribe to this magazine 7-10 yrs ago, when I was planning a remodel of my home but had canceled that subscription shortly after (1 yr ? 2 yrs ?). I had not seen a magazine for several years but then periodically they would send me a copy which I believed to be an attempt to get me to re-subscribe. When I received the unsolicited magazines I just recycled them. After my call today (9/*/15) I learned they "believed" my subscription started in 2013, which at the time I was repairing my home from damages caused by hurricane Sandy. As I was busy with my home and tight on money there is no possible way I would have resubscribed to the magazine, maybe they were targeting areas impacted by Sandy ? Regardless, The customer service rep was not able to definitively tell me when they believed my subscription started and did not hesitate to credit back the charges for the unsolicited magazine. My concern is they may be charging others who did not solicit this magazine, possibly individuals whom they had information on file (such as mine).Desired Settlement: I was informed by the customer service rep that I would receive a full refund for the past two years and I requested that they remove all my information from their systems (debit card, address, email etc.). I was told it would take 7-10 business days for my refund and that it would take unto 3 months for them to completely remove my information from their system, really, 3 months ? My requested resolution is further investigation into this magazine's billing / subscription practices. I am very confident I did not re-subscribe and they were unable to give me definitive information on "when" I subscribed or provide a record of my re-subscription. That being said, I can only come to the conclusion they re-activitated my subscription without my consent and charged my debit card without my consent.

Desired Resolution: Investigation into company subscription / billing practices and if my account is not credit back within 7-10 business days I would like a full refund and all my information removed from their systems/files.

I appreciate this opportunity to be of assistance.First of all, I would like to apologize to [redacted] for any inconvenience he may have experienced. According to our records, we received instructions to process a subscription order for THIS OLD HOUSE Magazine on June **, 2004, which was part of an automatic renewal program. Under the terms of the program, the subscription would continue unless we are notified to cancel. Please note, consumers are never under any obligation to renew and may cancel at any time.As stated in the promotion, the subscription would be renewed unless we received notification to cancel. Therefore, the THIS OLD HOUSE subscription renewed every year through August **, 2015; all issues were mailed to [redacted]. Review: Received from a store a survey form from [redacted] Magazine stating to go to this site: [redacted]

Fill out the survey and receive a $ 10.00 [redacted] gift card.

Did two days ago. Took 15 minutes to go thru survey. At the end said you will receive your gift card shortly. ?????

Still haven't received. Is this a gimmick ?

I wouldn't have wasted my time trying to help them in filling out answers to questions that will benefit their business. I did my part . I expect them to honor this contract.

Sincerely , Very unhappy person.Desired Settlement: Would like my $ 10.00 [redacted] gift card that I was promised twice. Once when receiving the survey form from the store and after it was promised it to me after I filled out the entire survey.

Review: Cooking Light has charged me without my permission and refuses to remedy.

Cooking Light charged me twice for a subscription, and renewed my subscription immediately without my permission. It took many emails and calls to even reach their customer service, and finally, after speaking with numerous customer service agents who insisted I renewed my subscription voluntarily, I spoke with someone in the finance department who promised to cancel my subscription and refund me my money. I received a partial refund, but I keep getting bills for a subscription and I keep receiving copies of magazines I do not want. I want to end my relationship with this company once and for all. I am fed up. This is the worst experience as a customer I have ever had.Desired Settlement: I want my subscription completely cancelled as promised and I want to stop receiving bills from Cooking Light.

Going forward please note all inquiries should be directed to the New York Metropolitan Better Business. In viewing our customer transaction records, I show the attached order was returned to our office via U.S. Mail on October **, 2014. In accordance to the order request, a 1-year subscription for $18, plus applicable tax was processed for the below:[redacted]The delivery service began with December 2014 issue and three issues were served. Since we are only able to service an unpaid account for a limited time, the delivery service was suspended on February **, 2015. Upon receipt of this complaint, we have canceled the delinquent billing.I appreciate this opportunity to be of service.Sincerely,[redacted]

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

You can see clearly that I signed up for a ONE-YEAR subscription. I was charged for 2 years, and the company automatically renewed me for 2 years, and immediately tried to renew me for an additional 3rd year on top of this. I signed up for one year only, and they charged me double, lying that I had signed up for 2 years. This is merely proof that this company is a complete scam.

Review: People runs the site [redacted] where posters comment and are allowed to freely post on celebrities. I read comments that include threats, swears and hateful comments to others posters and some very nasty things about celebrities and their children. I have never said nothing negative...because I am not allowed to post! I have never said a mean thing to anyone in my life. This iPad is brand new. I received it on July [redacted]. Previous to this one, I had another iPad that was also new and didn't allow me to post on the site. One day, I was just gone. I emailed and called People over 10 times. I told them I use public wife's and if someone on one of those wifi's said something deemed inappropriate that shouldn't be my fault....never heard back. I read daily nasty things, yet they remain and me, the nice, mother is not allowed to post. I contact you more on principle because it is unfair how a site can treat people this way.Desired Settlement: I would like a phone call and for this to be resolved with my an explanation as to what happen and for me to have access back to the site. Review: I received a copy of Sports Illustrated in the mail last month that I did not order. I went on their website and sent them a message that I did not order it and I do not want it so stop sending it. I received a second copy yesterday, so I called them to tell them that I did not order it, I do not want it, stop sending it, and by the way you spelled my last name wrong. The guy I was speaking with said he could not cancel it because it was ordered through supco inc. and I would have to contact them. I told him I do not know who that it is, I have never heard of them, I have NEVER AUTHORIZED them to subscribe me to a magazine, and again please stop sending me Sports Illustrated and cancel the subscription that I personally did not order. He said he could not do that. I then went on the Sports Illustrated website today and had a chat with one of the customer service who basically said he could cancel delivery but not the subscription. This is consumer fraud, and it also is quite possibly identity theft. How did they get my info?Desired Settlement: I want the magazine to stop being delivered to me, because I did not order it and I gave no one the authority to order it in my name. We are in receipt of [redacted]'s July **, 2013 posting. I appreciate this opportunity to be of assistance.

As [redacted] noted in his recent posting, he has also filed a complaint with the Revdex.com directly against Subco. As we noted in our previous response, Subco submitted the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED order to us for [redacted] of Lynbrook, NY, on June **, 2013. Also, as previously noted, the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED magazine order has been cancelled in our subscriber records.

It appears there was a mix-up at Subco and [redacted] of Lynbrook, NY, received the subscription in error. The subscription belonged to another [redacted], from Kirkwood, MO. I have received a copy of the other Revdex.com case (#[redacted]) being mediated by the [redacted]. In the latest response from Subco, Deborah Spaulding, Client Services Senior Manager, apologized to [redacted] for the "mix-up" and assured him everything has been corrected.

Review: To Whom It May Concern:

After not receiving my January 2016 issue of All You Magazine, I went to the magazine’s website intending on contacting the organization by phone to discuss the delivery issue. Much to my dismay, upon arriving on the home page of the website, it stated that the December 2015 issue of the magazine was the last magazine that they were going to publish. They provided a phone number to contact customer service in order to discuss the issue further and I believed, to resolve the issue by offering me a refund of my subscription amount. The phone number contacted was the following: ###-###-####

I called the phone number on 01/**/2016. I talked to a female customer service representative. I do not recall the name as her accent did not provide a clear enough verbalization for me to document it.

I explained to her that I had received a billing statement dated 09/**/15 stating that the amount due was $35.00 by 09/**/2015, which would cover 22 issues of the magazine. The billing statement arrived in the mail just days before the payment due date. I sent a check on 09/**/2015, which was verified as posted by my bank on 10/**/2015.

I expressed by dismay that the magazine had ceased publication and did not contact its subscribers via email or the United States Mail to notify them of this change. The representative apologized. I then asked her for a refund of the amount that I paid, as I would not be receiving any further magazines. The representative denied me the refund.

Upon her refusal, the customer service representative stated to me that I would be getting a voucher in the mail to do one of two things: 1. transfer the subscription to another magazine or 2. to obtain a refund. I stated to the customer service representative that I was not willing to transfer my subscription to another magazine (All You was the only magazine that I found value in because it was written with practical information, for real women). I once again asked for a refund of my money.

The representative then put me on hold saying that she was going to speak directly with an account service specialist about my request. After a short time on hold, the representative returned to the phone stating that there was nothing that could be done because it was already processed and she was unable to cancel anything or refund any money. It was at this time, that she tried to tell me that she had spoken to two separate people with the same resolution.

Since I was never sent anything in the mail nor was I contacted by the company, I told the representative that something should not have been processed without my advisement as it was my money and I should have been given a choice in what was done with the balance of the funds. The representative then stated that I would be receiving notification in the mail soon. I specifically asked her if a refund would be offered. She stated that it would be. When I further inquired when I should expect to receive this notification in the United States Mail, she said within a month (which would have been February *, 2016-one month from my inquiry). Before the conclusion of the conversation, I tried to clarify with the customer service representative if when I received the mailing would I need to send something back to signify my desire in the resolution of this issue (refund or transfer of the subscription) and she was unable to give me a concrete answer to my question. She told me that I would need to call back when I got the mailing. Overall, this conservation was not to my satisfaction and did not provide me with any concrete information about my account or how the money that I paid would be refunded to me.

A month's time passed and there was still no correspondence from All You Magazine. I once again looked on the internet and an active [redacted] Page concluded that many other customers were dismayed with the company, denied refunds, magazine subscriptions being transferred without their permission, and inadequate customer service experiences without a resolution to their requests. The company did not respond to any of the complaints on the [redacted] page. The complaints also stated that the phone number provided above, was periodically non-functional and that the callers were having similar experiences to myself. The [redacted] page was taken down just within about a week or so of this complaint.

Further research on the internet indicated a [redacted] article titled "Time Inc. Shutters 11-year-old All You Magazine" by Keith J. Kelly published on October **, 2015. It stated that it was the first magazine to cease publication after the 18 month reign of a new CEO, Joe R[redacted] took over. It said that the magazine suffered in recent years after the bankruptcy of a distributor and the end of the exclusive arrangement with the retailer, [redacted]. All You was estimated to be losing about $5 million a year.

Around the time that my subscription renewal was sent and they cashed my check, they already knew (according to this article) that they would no longer be publishing the magazine. I think that this is dishonest business practices.

No where in the billing statement for the renewal does it state what will occur in the instance of the magazine going out of business. Therefore, the company does not have the right to transfer my subscription or keep my money for products or services that were not rendered. Honest business practices would entail refunding the balance of the subscription amount.

On 03/**/2016 after not receiving any further correspondences from All You Magazine, I received an email from Real Simple (a magazine published by the parent company Time, Inc), stating that my Digital Account is now active. Much to my dismay, never did I give the company permission to transfer the subscription to this magazine (the customer service stated that I would be given the choice when the mailing arrived, which never was received).

In conclusion, Time Inc did not give me the choice in what was going to occur with the money that I paid. They simply dishonestly transferred by subscription to this digital magazine. I do not have any interest in Real Simple Magazine or any other publication published by Time Inc.

As I do not care for digital versions of magazines, you can be insured that I will not access the digital version of this magazine and I will expect that a refund will be provided. Time Inc. basically stole my money and indeed, had no intention of giving it back.

Thank for your time and attention in this matter.Desired Settlement: I would like my subscription amount that I paid refunded to me in the form of a check. I paid $35 on 09/**/2015 that was due by 09/**/2015 and I only received magazines through December 2015.

Review: I began receiving People Style magazine last year and wrote to stop delivery as I have no idea why it is being sent to me and don't want it. It still gets delivered and now People Magazine has been added to it. I find both magazines offer offensive content upon occasion and offend my family's sensibilities and morals. I would never knowingly subscribe to either magazine and am embarrassed to have them delivered to my house with the latest cover of people in bed together.

I'm a senior and caregiver to an ailing parent. Dealing with this sort of thing is quite burdensome. I need resolution soon as my caregiver duties are increasing. Please, please help me resolve this issue and take me off your delivery list. Thank you for your help.Desired Settlement: Stop delivery of your People and People Style magazines and take me off your list for further publications.

Review: I bought a gift subscription a few years ago. I had just noticed that I had been charged every year since that for a renewal. I do not believe I signed for for automatic renewal. I have asked for a cancellation and a refund, and they have not confirmed that to me. I also asked for proof that I asked for automatic renewal, if not, refund for all previous renewal charges. I have searched my bank records and saw renewal charges for 12/**/11 payment of $19.95 and 11/**/12 payment of 23.96 as well as the 11/**/13 charge of 25.96.Desired Settlement: refund all all charges listed above.
